Well, can't thank you enough for this because, it's the best explanation I could find. My son has an 08 Patriot (same motor) and, I was stumped thinking there's a fuse or a relay or something. You cleared that question up so, I'll be tearing off the bumper (LITTERALLY HAVE TO TAKE THE DAMN BUMPER OFF!!) to test the circuit. So stupid for a damn horn but, you saved me some headaches...

    Very well done.
There is a horn relay in the power module. You and I would have found it when we were younger on the top side of the fuse block. Today, some engineer that has soft hands and that has never turned a wrench has decided to put it on the bottom side of the fuse block where the battery vents atomized corrosive air. You and I are technicians and know what migration is.
Luckily in this case, 8t was the horn and not the integral relays on the underneath of the tipm. I have seen several where atomized charged acid have indeed migrated into the very attractive circuit points underneath the power modules.

Also, to help unravel the mysteries of modules. All a module does is makes and breaks ground. The relays often are considered current sensing. The way these relays behave 8s like that of a collapsible circuit. At shelf state the relay is open. Each circuit of any system contains a load which does consume power, this is a resistance. If no power travels it has no amperage. If too much power travels, there will be a high amperage. If the current is low, the electrical signal travels into a different path on collapsing the circuit through the relay that path is like a lightbulb that you cannot see, but instead it triggers a different type of display which is a hidden number that says open circuit and then it says which processor/module contains that calculation. If it is too high in current which means the load/horn/ resistance is too low (possibly a short) it will redirect the electrical signal to a different portion where instead of activating a horn or light , it displays high signal on whichever processor is responsible for determining the abnormality. If the current is on the specific range that the manufacturer has designed it to operate then all is well.
Electrical diagnostic is where the $$$ is at and I am unemployed lol

Nice video bro. I got a 2016 Rubicon, having the same issues with my horn and steering wheel functions. I tested my horn by using my panic button. Horn worked fine. From what I’m gathering at my clock spring.

Just push the panic button. If the horn goes off you have a good horn.

If you measure the voltage on the wire, without pressing the horn pad, for the horn unplugged(you might need the key on) you should measure a voltage. This is called a bias voltage. It is a weak voltage that won't light the test light, because the voltage is being sent out by the module, and it goes through a high ohm resistor. The module has a voltage sensing circuit after the resistor, and the voltage should read 0 when the horn is plugged in, or there is no break in the wire, or in your case, the horn itself is open. This is because if the circuit is complete, the voltage will be pulled to ground through the complete circuit. If the circuit is open, such as the horn itself being faulty, the voltage sensing circuit will now "see" the bias voltage(no current flow, no voltage drop) and know the circuit is open.( Could also be a bad ground for the horns)

I've got one for you, I needed new bearings on my 2013 Avenger and while I was waiting for new ones to be shipped the battery died. So while I was swapping out the bearings I had the battery out on the charger. Once done and everything put back together, now my horn only works while the car is on. So if I press the lock button on the fob twice it will not honk or if I reach in and press the horn on the steering wheel too. But if it's running, it works just fine.

We need a video on how to rewire the horn switch to bypass the computer and put the circuit on a proper basic relay directly to the horn. What I'm curious about is whether the horn switches are off-on with no in-between. Nothing worse than an unfriendly honk that Fiat must be so fond of.

There is a ground that goes back to the TIPM to sense the voltage (expected watts, etc.). The TIPM senses that the circuit is shorting and it turns off the horn circuit completely. This is the same for all lights, it sends out voltage tracing and if it is not the voltage it should be, the circuit for it will be shut off. That’s why TIPM’s hate LED headlights. They will turn off and back on testing voltage and will eventually turn off the headlight because it should be receiving back a certain usage of power like 12v and 55w, but only gets back something like 4 volts. It is a “safety”, like if you were in a wreck and the headlight was crushed and the bulb was broken, it will stop sending power to it completely. But the grounds are connected back to the TIPM. Often, the relay in the TIPM will fuse open or closed for things like windshield wipers, lights, etc. I would imagine that if you replace your TIPM, your horns will work again. I have replaced several for the same reasons. The relays suck. The horn happens to have an internal relay, unlike the fuel pump, lights, windshield wipers, etc, that can’t be soldered on. TIPM’s are a good idea, just a terrible design!!

Because the key fob makes the horn blow also. So if it doesnt return a signal from the key fob then it knows its not blowing.

I thought I was slick. I bought two horns and soldered everything together. Installed the horn on the patriot. It worked for a day. Then it stopped working. I tested the resistance and its about 1.1k as opposed to the single horn which was about .5k. The computer knew and instead of just sending the signal, now my horn doesn't work. Annoying. These computers know all.

@@OnlineMechanicTipsood thing I am subscribed 🧍‍♂️ I had a question regarding the horn. I have a Jeep Patriot 2010 and the horn has been going off on its own randomly. I check some problem codes in the computer and the codes that come up are “B2338 Horn Control Circuit Open” (same as your error code in your video), “B2339 Status STORED - Horn Control Switch Stuck”, “P1279 Starter Control Circuit 2 Open” and “U0141 Lost Communication With IPM (FCM/TIPM)”. I was wondering if you have any idea as to what’s making my car horn go off on it’s own? I’ve read online that it could be that the lock spring isn’t working properly so that it should be replaced, but most of the time that doesn’t solves the issue. Do you have any suggestions on how to diagnose this issue? Thanks again for responding! (PS: I’m trying to have some father and son bonding time with my dad by fixing this issue ourselves, but my dad is really stubborn is just suggesting me to sell my car… even though I’ve only had it for about two years lol)

It's what we call broken... 🤣 I'm surprised it died that early but mounting it that low let's water and crap inside so it died. It's possible they feed each other in series so if one goes bad it kills the circuit so if one is still good it can't work.
