Brother I can’t thank you enough for creating this video! Completed this awful task yesterday and with some patience and help from God, I managed to get the new sensor and bolt in place! I hope I never have to replace another sensor in my 2016 Jeep Compass as I have also replaced both of the camshaft position sensors as well. I had the same issue as you with my Jeep just shutting down without warning on the road. Got it all fixed! Thanks again from San Antonio!
2016 patriot been randomly not starting every couple months. It finally shut off going up the driveway and the engine light finally came on. Giving this a go today. Thanks man!
@@mykomodoc227 This issue was a fix. However, I am now having electrical issues. It seems the Jeep Patriot is ASS when it comes to random issues that cause your car not to start. I have to unhook the battery and hook it back up 5 out of 10 times I want to go anywhere now lol
Man thank you so much! Your advice was spot on for my wife's 2011 Jeep Compass. Only thing was, the bolts were #10. It was EXACTLY where you said it would be. I used a magnetic light and a small mirror and it made things a breeze, for the most part. Thanks again!
The exact issue I had with my 2011 Jeep Compass. Driving down the highway lost all power to the engine and power steering. 2 codes popped up P1607 (pcm) and P0339 (crankshaft position sensor). I changed the sensor it was relatively easy. This cleared both codes. I floored it on the test drive and it was smooth. No more hard shifts no more lagging. Thankyou!
I don’t know anything about cars. 12 Patriot 2.4L here. Replaced alternator and battery first and still had same problems. Now I learn it’s a $17 part and a little tricky to get to. Damn. Well now I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow . Thanks for the video man.
A piece of worn out T-shirt pressed between socket and nut or bolt head works great for retaining nuts or bolts so they don't fall out, especially SS non-magnetic fasteners. Thank for sharing, was going to come up from underneath 😊
Great video and will be helpful. Once my 2015 Patriot hit just over 100k (100,104), shit like this started happening. First it was the Throttle Body which was actually easy to replace. A few days ago, it stalled while driving. Pulling P0339, a P0456 and a P061C on the OBD scanner. Heading for the Crank Position Sensor next. The fact that this sensor can leave us stranded is bullshit, amd what a raw deal. Thanks for the vid! .
@@SomethingonSodom i changed this sensor out since i watched your video and it was spot on helpful. The only thing i didnt understand was why you opted not to take the splash pan off. Then i crawled underneath that junk and laughed some more. I took the breather off and it was for sure easy. 🤘🏼
For those that asked others, this took me 50 minutes. A couple notes: I used a Milwaukee m12 ratchet, although only on the airbox bracket and hose clamp, so it didn't save that much time. I used a decent sized inspection mirror and a flashlight to find everything and align the heat shield at the end. The lower 10mm heat shield bolt was missing, probably from when someone else replaced the harness to the sensor and left it out or lost it, so that saved a little time. Most importantly, I used magnetic sockets to make it easy to stay on the bolts, and start the bolts at the end.
@@SomethingonSodom Maybe that was only me, twice. Once when I watched before I started, and once more when I came back to let people know how long it takes. But I do love those sockets. Engine was idling hard and stalling out occasionally and had a check-engine light. Code was the crank shaft sensor and first off want to give this video a thumbs up. Getting to the bolt to remove the heatshield was a pain in the fucking ass. I tried to take to get it off with socket wrench, but it wouldn't budge. I was able to squeeze an impact drill there in there and still couldn't get it off. As a matter of fact, I cracked a socket in the process. I applied some WD40 to the bolt and let it sit for a few minutes. Still had some trouble getting it off with the impact wrench but it eventually backed out. It took a solid hour just to get the bolt off and my daughters' makeup mirror came in clutch. I have long arms, so I was able to thread the bolts on and off with my hands once I got it loose. I have a 2011 jeep compass. Today I drove all over the place, including the freeway. It was fine. As I was pulling out of a driveway, it smoothly/quietly shut off and wouldn't start up again. 20 minutes go by and it magically starts up. I drive out of the street, park it and turn it off. It won't start up again. I got a jump and it starts, but only drives less than 5 minutes and shuts off again. Especially after giving it much gas. We repeat these steps several times for over an hour, inching it closer and closer to my home. Lastly. We start it up. Let it run a while and drive it to my house very slowly. Barely giving it gas. It makes it all the way there and performs smoothly and normal. Another hour goes by. I test it out again in it's parking spot. It starts up, but it's revving. Put my foot on the gas. And it turns off on its own. HELP?! Is it the alternator? The battery? The filter ? We also put water inside the battery right before it made it all the way to our destination.

Hubby went to work, then came back home because apparently all the dash indicators were flashing, all the gears were on and I guess he said the Jeep stalled out and scared the crap out of him. Now my man is mechanically inclined with the classic wranglers but these newer cars today are junk!! When I hear that word “electrical” I start to cringe when I think about the repair bill.
yes this situation is very scary. It can be the Crank Position Sensor or sometimes when the throttle body lets go its similar symptoms.
Hi. Thanks for the info. Question.. Think u said your working on a 2007, is that the same as 2015?
It's a 2011 actually. I think it's the same engine in the 2015. If it's 2. 4L inline 4 it's the same
Basically it's labeled as "world engine"
Thank you for this video. I was about to give up. I can confirm this is the same repair on a 2015 Compass as that is what I worked on last night.
Thank you!
Cool I thought the rope was to hand your self for all the problems
bahahahhaha!!! honestly that jeeps gone but it wasnt so bad. Hell the MB blew up on us.
The bottom isnt any easier on the 4x4 model. Just a heads up.
I have 2016 would be a reason The car would stall are lose speed I’m not that smart when it comes to car stuff
My car went into limp mode , what do I do now
You changed the sensor and now it's in limp mode? Did you clear the codes? Another issue that causes limp mode is the throttle body.
Did you figure it out?
I replaced throttle body when i had limp mode issues which aolved my problems
Yep jeeps and dodge/chyslers are a mess. put the fuel filter in the tank? make it all of plastic so it warps and leaks? way too many wires for everything. Make it complicated and guarantee many repair trips for the dealers.
My hands don't fit. I guess it's dealership time 😭
I know its brutal. how did it work out
@@SomethingonSodom got the dealership technicians to do it on the side for like a fourth of the cost lol all good now
Btw, do you know if turning traction control off constantly will mess with this sensor?
@Chad Lüstig can't say for sure didn't really mess with it.
Received a p0335 for that
The other code went away and you have 0335 ? What's that ?
Use a mirror nest time easier 👍
I believe it is P0335 and not P0339 but thanks
Buy a set of magnetic sockets. Thank me later.
Smart.
Uhhhh another bad video. That isn't the crankshaft sensor that is the camshaft exhaust sensor
Really where did you get that information from? The code reads crankshaft and the part I replaced (fixed ) was Wells SU8488 Engine Crankshaft Position Sensor
That's definitely the crankshaft sensor. I use to build these engines at my plant and installed thousands of these. The cam sensor is on the top on the engine
Don’t do a video if you’re not gonna show step-by-step instructions. Can you afford to look for shortcuts?
I tried my best man. You can't see shit in there.
