  • An estimated 80% of Americans experience back pain at some point in their lives. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports, “Low back pain is the leading cause of activity limitation and work absence throughout much of the world, imposing a high economic burden on individuals, families, communities, industry, and governments.” The WHO also estimates the prevalence of non-specific lower back pain in industrialized countries is 60% to 70%.

Self-massage is a safe and effective way to treat many types of lower back pain-and also prevent it! Join me for this relaxing lower back self-massage that is easy to follow, and will relieve tension and allow your back muscles to melt and unwind.
Practice these self-massage techniques regularly (3-7 days/week) for longer lasting effects, or to prevent pain and keep your lower back healthy.

Appreciate your videos! Could you do one for intercostal muscle pain and soreness?

Another great video! I wish I could followed all of the introductions. My lat and tricep development precluded me from doing much of it. It was still relaxing to watch and participate to the extent that I could.

Thanks! It is tricky to massage your own back. A great trick is to take a massage ball, lacrosse ball, or tennis ball, and lean on it against a wall. I have some self-massage with a ball videos coming out soon!

My two cents: One type of back pain (lower) may be caused by a different reason. The tendons inside (inner leg, psoas?) tighten up, distorting the spine, forcing the back muscles to constantly try to pull back, whence they get sore. Massaging the back does not affect this sort of back pain.
Stretching the tendons in the leg solve this type of back-pain. To stretch, lie down and pull your knee up.

Thanks for that, Joe! It's true that a shortened psoas muscle often corresponds to hyperlordosis of the lumbar spine. The techniques in this video help to lengthen quadratus lumborum, multifidus, and other lumbar spinal erector muscles, and you'll even find the knee-to-chest stretch in this routine as well. Many of my clients find great relief from these exercises.

@@rachelrichardsmassage9660 Ah yes, I did find the knee-to-chest in your routine later, but was too lazy to update my comment.
Love your videos, and a big fan of yours. Thanks.

This takes too long. You're better off getting a medival stretching rack which will stretch you out nicely all over.
