Loved that monastery. It looked massive and great fun to get lost in. However the estate church was something in itself. The whole place looked well worth the price of admission. Revolution! Oh this is a continental issue. We've used them in Spain, France, Switzerland and the UK. Not once have our clothes been properly cleaned. You say never again, so did Alison, but for some reason when you're desperate and short on time you'll use one again and regret it just as much 😂 As for no video this week it's helped us catch up on your adventures as we've had a very difficult couple of weeks. Hey guys, sorry for the late response - we've been a bit quiet on here and social media - nothing to worry about it, we're fine, just felt like taking a step back for a few days. So it meant I forgot to reply to some of the comments 🤦♂️ First and foremost though, I hope you're both alright? I'm sorry you've had a hard couple of weeks. Hopefully things have righted themselves now? We have some catching up on vids to do too, but I guess whatever happened is since your most recent videos. Hopefully Turkey plans are still on?! Not that I wish anyone ill fortune with Revolution, but I'm pleased it's not just us 😂 And like you, I suspect circumstances will force our hand to gamble our washing with them once again! Love to you both and hope everything is well now ❤️
Thanks for taking us round The English Heritage! So much beauty! We don't use them washers anymore used them once and same here never dried our clothes!!
As always, great video. Never been to Ripon, it looks a lovely town - loved the wood carvings. How frustrating about the washing - really maddening😖😖😖😖😖. I (and probably lots of your fans 😉) am really glad and grateful that you take the trouble to stagger your vlogs so we don’t miss a week. I nearly had a panic attack when I woke up and there wasn’t a video (until later) . Stay well and safe at work. ❤️❤️
Morning Irene, thank you ❤️ Ah the wood carvings were sublime! We couldn't believe they were made with something as unwieldy as a chainsaw. With the staggering of the videos, we planned it so meticulously right back into Germany as we knew what was coming up and how many we'd need - unfortunately that went out the window a bit as we ended up doing an extra week at work, so we might have to miss one video next Sunday 🙈🤦♂️ Not definitely though, but just a potential heads up. Thank you and have a great week ❤️🥰
Fabulous video of Ripon and national trust, so beautiful but that is the beauty of van life. Steve looked depressed having to go to work. Yes you are definitely allergic to work. Hope the oils work for you and the creepy crawlies. I celebrate retirement tomorrow 9 September yeah finally. Have a great time at work hope you both survive it, see you both very soon.
Morning, congratulations on your retirement! How exciting...any immediate plans? 😍 The oils seemed to have worked, no spiders got in that we're aware of 🙏 Haha I think that's just Steve's natural look 😂 We actually like going to work where we do because we get to sit still for a couple of weeks minimum and get a routine going. It makes us appreciate travelling when we do get out and about too. Thank you and take care 🥰❤️
Lovely video 🫶🏻 Fountains Abbey looks amazing place to visit. I love how you give us all the interesting information Daniel 👍🏻 even that tap with the dryer on it. I live in the u.k and didn’t know half these places existed. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to filming and editing 😉 Hope Stephan is feeling well sending him 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻hugs xx Also hope work went well 💜
Good Morning and thank you so much, we're really pleased you liked it and all the random information (including fancy dryer taps 😂). We are constantly amazed how much there is to see in the UK - before having the van, we wouldn't have known about most of these places either, and I'm sure we must have seen less than 5% of what we'd like to! Stephen is doing very well thank you, blood pressure is right down and he has lost loads of weight whilst at work. Take care and see you next week ❤️ 🙏
Thanks Jackie, it's definitely worth seeing the rest, but preferably on a sunny day with energy to walk around! Plenty of places to sit and rest though 😊
I grew up near Fountains (a long time ago) and I was interested to see the boardwalk across the water at the very end of the water garden where there's a wide waterfall into the lake. This used to be 18th. century stepping stones, quite exciting! I imagine they're still there under the wooden structure. The great thing about Fountains is that it's so huge it never feels crowded.
Morning, what a wonderful place to grow up by! The boardwalk did feel like a highlight in some ways, as it gave you key views of the lake and gardens. Stepping stones would've been more of a fun, romantic way across - I wonder if health and safety meant they had to change them. We didn't notice any old ones beneath but maybe if we'd known we might have seen them. And yes it's so big that even on a weekend, in school holidays, it felt like there was plenty of room for everyone 😍❤️
Fanbase suits! What a lovely sojourn you took us on through Fountains Abbey. It was wonderful to be re-acquainted with it again. Enjoy your 5 weeks of work. Keep thinking of all the luvly loot you will get for your efforts.
Thank you 🥰 Ah so you've been before, I'm glad we could take you around again though. I'm sure it's exactly the same, as old ruins tend to be 😁 This was a few weeks ago now as we filmed in advance (so we could release videos while working), so we are almost due to head out exploring again after visiting family. Hurrah! 😍
I’m Swedish but have always loved everything British, ever since I grew up with British tv series in the 60’s and 70’s. Thank you for letting us enjoy all these lovely places! If I could afford it I would spend most of my time travelling around Britain, but I’m not that well off so I really appreciate you showing us all these different towns and sites! 🌷🌷🌷
Ah thank you so much - I'm glad we can take you around all the places you'd like to see. The power of the internet 😁❤️ We would equally like to spend a lot more time going back to Sweden and travelling there but that's a money thing too - we have to be here to work, otherwise we're going nowhere 😂 That said, we know we are lucky to see and do everything we have. Having the campervan and choosing this life has allowed that freedom, although its entirely dependent on work. Interesting that Swedes have always loved British culture, I guess maybe it's not too dissimilar to your own but different enough to be of interest maybe? We were stunned how being in Sweden that everyone seemed happy - almost insisted- on speaking English to us, we've not noticed that anywhere else! Perhaps they enjoy the practice? We certainly never expected it, but obviously it was very helpful to us 🙏😍 I hope you can fulfill the dream of seeing some of these British places in person one day, and we'll have many more videos to show you too hopefully 🙏❤️
Every time you visit a place that I might have been to, I have to look it up. I was at Studley Park and Ripon in August 22. A lovely area to explore. ilona
Ooh that was the one we missed! It's so vast I really feel like doing it all in one day is a stretch. I hope you had a lovely time there, not sure if you filmed or not, I will have to catch up! Take care Ilona 🥰
@@comealongdear Hello. I'm a bit limited with filming. Because I don't edit, I have to make them short and compact, 10 - 15 minutes. I have been blogging for 16 years so the photographs are all on there. I didn't film at Ripon, but I made four videos last week at Doddington Hall. I am not very clever with tech stuff.
I think your vids are just fine as is - people like it when it gets straight to the point, something we rarely seem to do 😂 It's nice having all the footage of places to put together, but my god, it takes a hell of a long time. So there's much to be said for keeping it short and sweet! ❤️
Great photography and videography this week. Love the National Trust. If you ever get to Buckinghamshire look up Waddesdon or Cliveden they are a great 'piles of bricks'.
Sadly those laundry machines seldom work properly, but you can write to the company complaining, sadly it's doesn't get your clothes dry at the time you need them, but I loved the walk around the Abbey and beautiful gardens, thank you two for yet another great video and best of luck at work
Thank you Michael as always ❤️ The laundry was a pain but I think we have learned to use regular laundrettes from now on as it'll be easier to sort if things go wrong, they're slightly cheaper and I think work better overall. The abbey was gorgeous and we're happy we got to share them with you. Glad you liked it. Have a good week ❤️
@@comealongdear Ioved the Abbey, such a large site, although I travelled the UK extensively during the time I lived in London, I don't remember ever having visited there, shame really, but a sincere thanks to both of you
I have the same problem with U.K. washing machines are crap I got my money back 3 times when I was in Portugal the same washing machines and they were all great not one problem at all 😊
Ahh thank you and we really appreciate you catching up on some of our old ones too 🙏😍 So pleased you've been enjoying them, it means a lot to us. I hope van living is treating you well in Spain right now. Are you there for long?
Van life is very good for me ( and I hope it for you as well). I left a well paid job in Sweden to travel around Europe 2 y ago. The very best thing I have done. I really love Andalucía so that is now my home in my little van. Your videos are TV-quality btw 👍
Oh that's fantastic I'm glad it's all working out for you. Sometimes you've got to take a chance and a risk if the opportunity presents itself. We love Andalucia too (I'm never sure if that's Andalucia with a "c" or "s") and hopefully we'll be back there in the near future 😁 Enjoy it all and thank you for your lovely comments xx
Fountains Abbey would be an amazing film set, I'm sure it must have been used already with so much to offer. Thanks for taking us round it all, well worth seeing. Dan you could help yourself with your descriptions of areas etc with a few crib notes so you wouldn't have to remember everything. Never worry about pronunciations, say it how it looks as most of us don't know either unless we live in the area. Glad to read in the comments that you've done the work stint & are on your adventures again. Oh & plan those launderette visits better, that's criminal wasting so much money on crappy inefficient washing machines. Shame on Revolution for not maintaining them properly or giving users some comeback with a contact to get refunds from when there's a problem.
Good Morning to you 🌞❤️ Oh it would make a perfect film set for some fantasy epic no doubt. We didn't see any information on it being used but a quick google suggests it has been - The Witcher and All Creatures Great and Small quite recently 😁 Haha you are quite right about a few crib notes 😂 Sometimes you want it to look "natural" on camera though, but then that's just useless if I forget entirely what information I'm supposed to say 😂🙈 I usually have my phone on hand with the necessary info, but frequently as soon as we press play I forget 😬🤦♂️ I think we should have reported every issue we had at Revolution, so perhaps we are partly to blame. I suspect everyone is the same, you just want it done and to move on and by then it was late, but if we took time to let them know everything that was wrong then maybe the service would be better. Food for thought for sure. Had it not been late on a Sunday and needing to park somewhere, we probably would have. Still, I think proper laundrettes will be less risky in future. Thank you as always and see you next time ❤️ 😍
Holy... That abbey was a monster. And very gorgeous! How many National Trusts sites are there, and is there a list or map of them? Love the MacGyvering of the sleeping arrangements. 🥳 Ripon on looks a very sweet small town, past its hey day. That bath house was stun-ning! Love finds like that. Almost like mudlarking on dry land and much bigger. 😂 Love the information commentary. So glad we're not "Revolution"ized yet. That just looked bizarre and sounded like a scam. Today this great video was an evening treat. Spent the whole day at the local "castle" Hovdala helping out during their open castle day. Very interesting, but not even close to the grandeur of the buildings in this video. I hope you have 5 well paid weeks of work. Can't wait for the next video. Cheers from Skåne!
Good Morning to you in Skåne! 🌞 There are apparently over 500 National Trust sites, though a lot of that will include wild land and coastal regions that are managed by them. Even outside of National Trust (and English Heritage) there are many many houses and castles that aren't part of the scheme. I guess most of Europe is the same, but it does feel like we are truly rich in history and its remnants for such a relatively small island! We're very lucky. A quick google of Hovdala suggests it's definitely not to be sniffed at, it looks lovely, though more like a giant farmhouse than a castle?! Hope you had a good time helping out, do you do this regularly or was today a one-off? I have always loved the idea of working at one of these places. We use to live in Dover and I was really keen to work at Dover Castle at one point - but I'm not sure I'd ever have the confidence to do guided tours. Aah mudlarking - you know, we tried that once, in an old Victorian era rubbish dump! Found some snazzy glass bottles but nothing too fancy or life changing. It was a great day of adventuring though! We sometimes watch the Northern Mudlarks on UA-cam, they seem very knowledgeable and go to some great places in the UK. Hope you're well and glad we gave you some evening entertainment. Take care ❤️🥰
@comealongdear 500 is quite a lot. How many have you seen so far you think? Britain really has a lot of different influences from so many cultures through centuries and centuries and that's what makes it so spectacular. You really are very lucky. Hovdala was more of an estate than a real castle but had a moat and draw bridges. Then they decided to lower the nearby lake to gain more land but it backfired financially and also drained the moat. It was a lot of fun to help out and very interesting learning from the old guys that were there who know just about everything about the castle. It's not on a regular basis but if I can learn enough to be a guide then it could be more regularly I guess. I didn't know Dover had a castle, but it makes sense of one being there. I think once you know your stuff guidning would be easy, you're essentially doing that now already. 🤪 I would be absolutely thrilled to go mudlarking! Finding old bottles or pipes or knick knacks would be such a treat, but I guess you need a license, at least on the London banks. Sometimes I watch Si-finds and really enjoy it, and have also seen some of the Northern Mudlarks finds. I find them soo thing to watch and the mind races at their little finds. You sure did provide some fine entertainment as always! Looking forward to your next guided tour. 😉 Happy Moanday! (I spelled it the way it should be spelled)
Moanday sounds more accurate, I can't think why 🤔🤪 We are lucky because that specific day feeling no longer exists while in a van, although ironically Moandays are the day we always start a brand new shift at work. Oh we have probably only seen about 10 "proper" National Trust sites - although the coastal parks etc we've probably been to many without remembering or realising. They must own so much land here. Hmm good point about the mudlarking license, I'm not sure if you do or not. Some people do it a bit further out into the Thames estuary where I imagine it's free. You bringing it up reminds us how we'd love to try it again! That was back in a house though, it doesn't feel well suited to a van, plus where are we putting these magical finds 😂 It's great fun though - do give it a go if you can somewhere!
Rippon and Fountains Abbey.... Winner Winner AND Chips for dinner!! Thanks for the reviews we will certainly put those on the list next time we are touring in Yorkshire. Other Van-lifers have recently been complaining about the Revolution machines and ended up at normal laundrettes too... Maybe the machines have started to get a bit worn out... a good idea to start with but hard to maintain properly, we will avoid. Hope work is going well... saving your funds for the next big adventures. All the best.
Winner winner a cracking roast dinner (just to be different) indeed 😍 Definitely give both places a go if you're up that way - so close together too. Yes I think if the Revolutions were maintained more regularly they'd be grand, but they're not so...it becomes a gambling, time and money-eating exercise on a bad day 😬 We always prefer regular laundrettes if we can park, we were just caught out being a Sunday. Hopefully we won't make that mistake again!
There is funnily enough a huge manor house on site that someone lives in and is completely off bounds (despite people walking the entire perimeter of their estate, which must be strange...probably not an issue when you've got rooms filled with literal cash though. I mean that's not true, but it's the cartoonish image I always imagine). Should've asked to use their washing machine or borrow a servant. No no, not that one, we want him, yes the furry farmer type one there, he'll do...😜
Hi Steve and Dan - watching now , the Ripon trip. Can’t wait to visit fountains Abbey - we don’t live that far away and we are members of NT ! Have to say we used Revolution laundry in Morpeth last week and it was very good 😅- love your cooking , Steve and Dans ramblings xxx
Morning, and thank you 😊 Oh you've gotta go if you live close by...and means you don't have to do it all in one day either. Damn we passed through Morpeth as well, maybe we should have done the washing then 😂 Glad you enjoy our videos, thank you and have a good week ❤️
Meant to leave a comment last week - so, so pleased you're enjoying our home county. We're with you - would move to Beverley in a heartbeat! Hope work isn't too tiring - looking forward to your next vlog 🤗 x
Absolutely wonderful video with your problem and the seat at work. Try covering the whole chair. It may help Fantastic seeing you both as always you cheer this old woman up take care look after each other ❤
Good Morning, thank you, we are always happy if we make someone smile 😃 Even Stephen is 😂 Your idea about the chair is exactly what I've done and it seems to have worked...so it really must be an allergic reaction to the pvc coating! Take care and see you next time 🤗❤️
We're proud to be your 'fanbase' and it's amazing! You should absolutely stick with it. It's great to hear you experienced Ripon; it's really a beautiful place. What a stunning find in those gardens. They look absolutely enchanting! It’s so sweet how you gaze at Steven after your walk. The love in your eyes really shines through! Shame about the dryer
Thank you Paul for your kind words, we will accept having a fanbase and run with it then 😂 Ripon is a delightful little city but I have to say we much prefer Beverley for comparisons sake. Still, so many gorgeous towns up there to explore. Hmm was that look love or did we both just need a wash maybe, I'm not so sure 😂 I'll go with your romantic idea though, that's the kind of glass half full optimism I could do with 🤗 Thank you Paul and hope you're well, take care ❤️
I love that place and for them uk washing machines are rubbish and I got my money back 3 times in different places. When I am in Portugal the same washing machines are fantastic good quality 😊
Howdy Guys!! Looks like a wonderful place to go site seeing. If you're wearing shorts & you think that the sofa might be causing your rash, you might try draping a towel over the area that your sitting in & see if that helps. Poor Daisy, she's getting on in years & showing signs of wear & tear. She's been a good haven for you & your travels! Big bear hugs from Kenny in Ohio, USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Kenny, thank you for the tip, it did seem to work using covers, so I must've been allergic to the sofa 🤷♂️Daisy has indeed been a wonderful haven for us, and I hope she continues to be in some form or other! Just some upkeep to do is all. Hope you're doing okay and big hugs to you in Ohio 🤗❤️
We are your fanbase! Own it. Good luck with the work.....that means after there will be more adventures to look forward to. Keep it rolling! Stop showing me English chips though.....missing them here in Germany!! 😂😂
Thank you Denise 🥰 Okay, so we have a fanbase then 😂 It'll be autographs being demanded while hunting for reduced goods in Tesco next 😜 Yes one good thing about our work is that it makes us appreciate travelling as it all feels new again rather than doing it every week of the year. We'll try to avoid the chips but I won't be making any promises 😂
I've used Revolution many times in France and never had a problem. Only thing I didn't like was that you couldn't choose different languages in the menu. Would be such an easy thing to fix...
Which is bizarre considering they must be very much used by international travellers! The launderette we went to in Germany had the language setting thankfully and that was in a regular town not even a tourist place. Much more complicated without 🙈
Every time you say Fountain Abby all I can think is Downton Abby 😂The baths will probably be turned into flats hope not as that would be sad as the integrity of the building would be ruined.
I think Downton has a few more solid walls at least 😂 Think we prefer these old bricks though for a visual treat 😁 Ah god yes we did wonder if it would be turned into flats. It feels like it should be opened as baths again but not sure how practical that would be
You did the sensible thing! I think because we were tired, it was late and we didn't know where we'd even be sleeping that night we cut our losses and forgot about it. We'll try our best to stick to regular laundrettes in the future, but I suspect it won't be long before we use one of these again because of circumstances, so fingers crossed for a better result next time 😂
Hello, we do security for work and we have a set place we go to for various periods of the year. We sometimes take on smaller one-off jobs like sports events too, or events like Glastonbury.
@@comealongdear Okay, I used to do security between 1991 & 1997 here in Australia I did static work at companies and also crowd control work and had a pistol license for certain jobs I worked for a company called MSS Security and then for Chubb Security I quit in 1997 because the pay was not great At that time $10 per hour but nowadays I think they earn about $25 per hour and 50% extra on weekends. In 1997 I got a job in a contact center answering the phone to stranded motorists. Went from $10 per hour to $15 per hour. (plus penalties for weekends and nights) It would be handy having a van as a security guard so you can make tea and coffee and heat food in your breaks. I had a 1974 Kombi van and it was handy for stake outs. You would sometimes get a house you had to park outside with a gun, to protect the occupants. I remember a judges house I did for a week of night shifts because someone made a threat against him and was known to be dangerous. Luckily he didn't show up. Originally I am from Rochester Kent in England (have lived in Australia for 55 years now.} Where are you guys from?
Buying a home ideas. 1. Buy a narrow boat and rent it out. People pay a fortune for a week. 2. Buy a property in Portugal. Sunshine and cheaper than uk. 3. Village house in France. Closer from home and cheap to buy.
4. Buy a 2nd, 3rd and 4th home with 1000s of acres and leave them empty all year long 😉 I do love your ideas though Jimmy, the narrow boat one could be a sound investment, I'm not sure we can afford any of that however 😂 Which is why at this rate, as long as we've got work, we might end up staying in the van. Going back to the real world is too scary now 😂
I've been using a mix of t-shirts and blankets and that's kept the actually quite insane looking seeping blisters at bay. Oh my god, I'm allergic to cheap sofas!
You could always do a little research online and find a suitable replacement sofa. Hand crafted preferably and fitted with the finest of fabrics. Then just phone your boss, let them know about your situation and hey, voila. You’ve got yourself a new sofa. 👍❤️🥂
I think all I need to do when opening the door for new clients and workers is proudly show them my seeping, beautiful rash and say "morning, do take a seat, I'll just wipe the pus off for you". That ought to do it. Truly the sofa of all evil 🫥
I forgot to tell you go on line The number for the washing machine company tell them that you took your washing out the washing machine and it was ringing wet you put it in the dryer and it wasn’t drying thy will give you a refund . Keep your receipt we have the bill emailed to you take care 😢
Thank you, it's probably a bit late now but we'll try it for next time if we end up using them again! Ideally we'll stick to laundrettes although it doesn't always work out that way of course!
Not sure what you're referring to, but we haven't deleted your comment, nor did we see it. Perhaps there was an error and it didn't post or UA-cam deemed it unacceptable

We certainly never expected it, but obviously it was very helpful to us 🙏😍
I hope you can fulfill the dream of seeing some of these British places in person one day, and we'll have many more videos to show you too hopefully 🙏❤️
Every time you visit a place that I might have been to, I have to look it up. I was at Studley Park and Ripon in August 22. A lovely area to explore. ilona
Yes, I did the Seven Bridges walk.
Thank you Lisa! 😍 And thank you for the suggestion- we work relatively close to there so that would make sense to visit 👍
@@comealongdear Ioved the Abbey, such a large site, although I travelled the UK extensively during the time I lived in London, I don't remember ever having visited there, shame really, but a sincere thanks to both of you
I have the same problem with U.K. washing machines are crap I got my money back 3 times when I was in Portugal the same washing machines and they were all great not one problem at all 😊
Those gardens and ruins were lovely. I am glad you liked it and shared it with us.
Thank you Peter 🥰 It's a beautiful place, we had no expectations so we were completely blown away. Definitely recommend a visit
Brilliant imagery boys. Love Yorkshire. ❤🙂❤️
Thank you Lesley 🥰 We adore it there too, can't wait to see more of it sometime
I just love your videos. Thanks so very much for doing them. 😃 Hugs from a swedish guy living full time in his van in Spain 👍
Lovely video guys, not been to Fountains Abbey for a few years, it is stunning 😊
Morning Christine, thank you, glad you enjoyed it. We were bowled over by how much there is to see at Fountains 😍
We didn't see any information on it being used but a quick google suggests it has been - The Witcher and All Creatures Great and Small quite recently 😁
Haha you are quite right about a few crib notes 😂 Sometimes you want it to look "natural" on camera though, but then that's just useless if I forget entirely what information I'm supposed to say 😂🙈 I usually have my phone on hand with the necessary info, but frequently as soon as we press play I forget 😬🤦♂️
I think we should have reported every issue we had at Revolution, so perhaps we are partly to blame.
I would be absolutely thrilled to go mudlarking!
Happy Moanday!
@@comealongdear ship them here! 😂 OH and I will definitely be on the lookout whenever I manage to get back to Britain. 🤩
@@comealongdear I do hope everything is alright with you both.
Did you notice a laundry at Studley Royal? It would be a lovely place to live but I think you would need a lot of servants. 🥳
No no, not that one, we want him, yes the furry farmer type one there, he'll do...😜
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥👍👍👍👍
😁❤️🙏
We are your fans 👏👏👏👏
Bless you Linda! 🙏😍 Thank you 😊
Hi Steve and Dan - watching now , the Ripon trip.
Thank you! We adore it up here - there are so many places we could happily imagine settling and it's just a beautiful county in general 😍
Awe awe awe awe 😆 🤣 😂
😂🙈🤦♂️
Absolutely wonderful video with your problem and the seat at work.
Try covering the whole chair. It may help
Fantastic seeing you both as always you cheer this old woman up take care look after each other ❤
Good Morning, thank you, we are always happy if we make someone smile 😃 Even Stephen is 😂 Your idea about the chair is exactly what I've done and it seems to have worked...so it really must be an allergic reaction to the pvc coating!
@@comealongdear I am actually heading to England at the end of the week and so F & C are on the menu!! 🤣
It feels like it should be opened as baths again but not sure how practical that would be
We had the same trouble with revolution in great yarmouth..I complained n got a refund
You did the sensible thing! I think because we were tired, it was late and we didn't know where we'd even be sleeping that night we cut our losses and forgot about it. We'll try our best to stick to regular laundrettes in the future, but I suspect it won't be long before we use one of these again because of circumstances, so fingers crossed for a better result next time 😂
What do you guys do for work? Do you work in one place or all over England?
Hello, we do security for work and we have a set place we go to for various periods of the year. We sometimes take on smaller one-off jobs like sports events too, or events like Glastonbury.
@@comealongdear Okay, I used to do security between 1991 & 1997 here in Australia
I did static work at companies and also crowd control work and had a pistol license for certain jobs
I worked for a company called MSS Security and then for Chubb Security
I quit in 1997 because the pay was not great At that time $10 per hour but nowadays I think they earn about $25 per hour and 50% extra on weekends.
In 1997 I got a job in a contact center answering the phone to stranded motorists. Went from $10 per hour to $15 per hour. (plus penalties for weekends and nights)
It would be handy having a van as a security guard so you can make tea and coffee and heat food in your breaks.
I had a 1974 Kombi van and it was handy for stake outs. You would sometimes get a house you had to park outside with a gun, to protect the occupants. I remember a judges house I did for a week of night shifts because someone made a threat against him and was known to be dangerous. Luckily he didn't show up.
Originally I am from Rochester Kent in England (have lived in Australia for 55 years now.}
Where are you guys from?
Buying a home ideas.
1. Buy a narrow boat and rent it out. People pay a fortune for a week.
2. Buy a property in Portugal. Sunshine and cheaper than uk.
3. Village house in France. Closer from home and cheap to buy.
4. Buy a 2nd, 3rd and 4th home with 1000s of acres and leave them empty all year long 😉
I do love your ideas though Jimmy, the narrow boat one could be a sound investment, I'm not sure we can afford any of that however 😂 Which is why at this rate, as long as we've got work, we might end up staying in the van. Going back to the real world is too scary now 😂
Put a towel on the sofa. 🤦❤️🥂xxx
I've been using a mix of t-shirts and blankets and that's kept the actually quite insane looking seeping blisters at bay. Oh my god, I'm allergic to cheap sofas!
We need to get the Labour government to ban all cheap sofas. The NHS is already on all 4’s. 🌈❤️🥂
