    Hi guys thanks for another great video. Aberystwyth built for 15000 people doubles to 30000 people when the students are in town which is I guess why it gets so crowded. And isn't it funny how everything looks better after a pint or two, we have noticed that as well lol. Well done Stephen for keeping up your exercise we can already see on the video that you're looking fitter and slimmer.
    Just a note about making these videos. What we your fans love is that we're following along on YOUR trips and your daily lives. This is what was soooo good about the European series. Don't do the trips or tours just for us as they will become a chore and lose a bit of the authenticity, do them for you and we will just come along looking over your shoulders, life and love in a little van. Best

      @comealongdear  11 днів тому

      Good Morning, thank you ever so much for the nice feedback, that's great to read 😍 We're very happy you enjoy following us on our lives as we travel around. We absolutely would never do something if we didn't want to. Of course, we do have a mindset of making videos now, but we would never go off in our van to do it unless it was somewhere we wanted to visit anyway. There's no point being in the campervan if we can't go and see things is the way we look at it. Sometimes of course, we don't fancy filming and will just focus on ourselves, so we try to balance it at least. Very much appreciate your words on the matter though, so thank you 😊
      Yes that makes sense about Aberystwyth- the little streets don't seem designed to take much traffic. By this point we were already there of course so we persevered, but I think we'll avoid it in future. Nothing against the town, it's just not built for too many visitors as you say!
      Thank you for noticing about Stephen, he'll be pleased 😀 And yes, everything is always better after a pint or many 😉😂 Thank you and take care

    Hi, loved the video. I’m from Aberystwyth! Sorry to see you found the biggest dive bar in town! So many great pubs and places to visit, glad you got to stay on the seafront. Town was congested because of freshers moving into town, it’s always mad!

      @comealongdear  10 днів тому +1

      Hello, well believe it or not, we don't mind a dive bar, sometimes they're the best ones 😉😂 It was quiet and late afternoon/early evening so no bother at all. It would've been nice to give other places a go, but as always there's just not enough time. We were very lucky to get onto the seafront, it was a gorgeous spot. I bet you've seen some wonderful sunsets and equally dramatic storms in the past in Aberystwyth! ❤️

    We believe, but don't quote us on it, that the parking cost is a drive to stop long term parking of vans. But thanks for the reminder of just how difficult parking is in the UK just before we jump on the ferry to the UK 😂...
    Going to have to look up the world's smallest city now just out of pure curiosity. We do hate it when something gets hyped only to be a disappointment, we had it with the world's (Apparently) smallest beach, that actually wasn't that small.
    However it is always a nice and great reminder why we do this living in a van thing when you end up with a perfect view to stare at while the day slowly ends.
    Much love Darren and Alison 🤟♥️

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  6 днів тому

      Yes, the parking does often feel like a way to just deter people altogether sometimes! Even down the seafront, there were actually 3 to 4 motorhome spots. Great! A tenner - okay, fine - but no overnight allowed. That seems...odd, to have camper spots, charge a tenner to be there for a day, but then not allow stopovers in that spot.
      However, I think in Aberystwyth's case it feels too busy and the streets too narrow to cope with it all. We didn't know that until we were there, but it's why we probably wouldn't return in a van again.
      I'm sure you can't wait for these UK delights again 😂🙈 Of course we cope fine and always manage, but for you guys it's always going to be a shock after Spain etc. Hopefully you have somewhere to park Persie when you do come back? Do you know when you'll definitely be back here?
      Apparently the smallest city in the world is a place called Hum in Croatia. But even the Vatican is smaller than St David's by population apparently. Still, it was most bizarre being in what felt like a Welsh village that's actually a city. Worth it for the novelty I suppose, but the coast nearby is its real strengths and only a short walk from St David's.
      Take care both safe travels ❤️🤟

      @@comealongdear we are currently sat at Calais port waiting to board the ferry, never realised how much cheaper the ferry was compared to the tunnel. As for parking, we will spend a lot of time camped on friends and families driveways, but we are hoping to get out and about a little (including us having another meetup 😁). That'll be the test for us as yes, we are spoiled in Spain for options.

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  6 днів тому

      Had no idea the ferry was cheaper either, the only reason we've picked that before is because it seems more fun and like you're properly going on holiday rather than the bland confines of a dark tunnel. Hope it all goes smoothly! Best thing about the ferry for us is if you get the right ticket, you can board earlier ferries if you arrive at the port too soon. Are you driving up to...I want to say Norfolk, but not sure? After you arrive in the UK?
      We are currently spending time with some family down here in Kent and others we haven't seen for a while so we've been busy, not out in the van at all since we finished work. We've been waiting to hear about future work for the rest of this year before we made any plans, however it seems we have a gap of a few weeks, so the plan is going to be to head abroad again next week I think! We weren't expecting it so soon but, especially as we don't know how long we'll get to do this for, we want to make the most of it. I was hoping the stars would align and we could crossover at the port or similar (or, if we were staying in the UK, we'd just drive up to Norfolk area perhaps), but I think after this family time we'll be heading straight to the ferry to make the best of the time we've got before we go back to work again. So it seems unlikely to work out this time, but you never know, we could cross paths on mainland Europe 🤞
      Have a safe journey both much love to you ❤️ 🤟

    Good morning fellas - lovely to see you both again ❤️❤️. Shame you didn’t have better weather but at least you ended on a high overlooking Cardigan Bay (did you see any dolphins?) when we were in St David’s, it was lovely weather in summer…. but the crowds 🙄😫. I think it’s disgraceful charging nearly £10 for campervan parking with no option to pay less for a couple of hours 😖. We’ve found this in other places in Wales too - and worse than that, height barriers 😖😖😖😖. Looking forward to your next video, stay well, happy and safe. ❤️❤️

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  11 днів тому +1

      Morning Irene 🤗 Sadly no dolphins, but a few seals, it fact I distinctly remember in the morning in Aberystwyth seeing a single seal poking its head out the water and seemingly looking straight at us. It bobbed for a bit, then swam away.
      God I can imagine St David's gets too much in summer! I don't understand where everyone parks though, and there isn't many places to go, so they must all congregate on one area 😂 Definitely recommended to walk to the nearby coast I think.
      Yes unless we read it wrong, it seems to suggest a tenner no matter how long you stay. We could however have stayed the couple of free hours in Tesco just to see the town (definitely recommended if you're only in a place for a brief time) but luckily the seafront spot appeared. Still, Wales is worth it regardless and there's still plenty of options to stay places luckily, although not in all areas, Pembrokeshire is definitely trickier!
      Take care and thank you for watching us ❤️😍

    Just discovered you guys and have subscribed. I live in Belfast these days but my soul resides in the part of Wales your currently wandering around. Aber is generally always busy and in September is going to be packed with students returning to the university, for a long time it was a great place to stay over night with lots of places under the castle to camp up for a day or so but people took the piss and locals complained... It was a shame that you didn't have a great time in St David's, it is lovely in the sunshine - the walk up to the top of St David's Head is great. Hope you'll continue to give the region the benefit of the doubt as I do think it's beautiful. 🙂

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  11 днів тому

      Hi Colin, thanks so much for finding us and subscribing, we appreciate it 🙏❤️ Aberystwyth definitely seems unusual in that it's a small town with a big student population, normally they seem to be in big cities. It does feel like the amount of people and traffic that probably goes in compared to its size and little narrow streets is...a lot 😂 But the seafront is gorgeous, just that classic British seaside look. I can well imagine parking was once more abundant, but sadly like in many areas, people either stay too long or leave mess etc, which ruins it for the rest. A tale we've seen many times before.
      Oh don't get us wrong about the area of St David's - all of that part of Pembrokeshire is just gorgeous, and the walk we had from there was perfect. So while the city itself didn't grab us as such, it was still nice and had lots of charms, and of course everything on its doorstep is priceless. We would like to come back and see the coast again for sure 😍 Thank you and thanks for following along ❤️

  • @AbsolutePernilla

    Finally some proper British weather! 😂 Wales just keep on delivering fantastic scenery, and St David blev my mind actually. Both with the facts and the looks. I live in a slightly smaller village but we don't even have a proper church. There are quite a few evangelical/baptist ones though. 🤔 And one that has ties with a church in Chicago if I remember correctly. I'm not religious so I don't really get involved. 🤫
    Student towns can be weird I feel. Too rowdy and too quiet because of the student year, especially if the town is small. Pubs can be a little cheap, but I doubt that Staro was the same price as in Prag. 😬 But even if Aberthswythggbetheloof (I really can't wrap my head around Welsh name 😅, sorry) was a bit unwelcoming it looked nice. Always Love the British crows of houses along the coastline, they look very quaint and usually colorful as well.
    Looking forward to the next peek of the Welsh country! Stay healthy and warm!
    Cheers from Skåne! 🥰

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  11 днів тому

      Good Morning to you in gorgeous Skåne 😍 Yes all felt right in the world having the British weather of gloom and depression hanging over us again 😂 Yet, it can make places look moodier and more atmospheric which definitely worked here I feel.
      St David's is quaint for sure, but astonishing that it hasn't grown into anything substantially bigger being a "city" - perhaps that's a conscious choice, to protect the coastline (of which it's only a couple of miles in either direction from). We're not religious either but we do enjoy a look at the churches, if only to appreciate the history, architecture and the sense of peace they provide (ironic, given that religion seems to provide anything but peace so often but never mind).
      I agree with you on student towns, usually here they are already in popular or busy places, but this was an odd one and I imagine exactly like you say - either heaving or very quiet. Most of those buildings on the front were student accommodation for a start!
      I think Welsh sounds absolutely beautiful, but damn, if it doesn't look like the most randomly made up language on paper 😂
      The beer was divine, but yes, definitely not Prague levels of pricing! I can't remember how much - actually I've just checked, £4.20 each - not too shabby for the UK these days. Wales definitely seems cheaper overall (whereas Scotland is the most expensive for alcohol).
      Hope you're well in Sweden and thank you for watching us as always, appreciate it 😁❤️

    St David's that's another place to put on my list. I have memories of Aberystwyth, not many, as it was such a long time ago. I got my first motorbike, a Honda 125. I set off for a day out from my home at Burton on Trent. I didn't have a destination in mind, and went west. Got on the A5, and followed it all the way to Aberystwyth. I had no idea of time and distance, so an hour after I got there I had to turn round and go back. Now I calculate distance in time, not miles. ilona.

      Hi Ilona, well regardless of you having just the hour, I bet that was quite the thrill getting that bike for the first time and heading off into the country, wherever you fancied. My first trip across the water was to Holland. I chatted to a Dutch driver on the boat and he said follow me, because I was quite nervous. After a few miles he was making a right hash of it, going the wrong way round a roundabout, so I decided I could find the place by myself. Keep up the videos, you make me titter.

      Well I'm glad you ditched the guide in Holland 😂 Sounds like you've had a fair few biking adventures, you're definitely braver than I am, but I can imagine it feels so freeing. Thanks Ilona, take care ❤️

    This is one of those geographical things about the UK people rarely think about, it is the wide bit of the UK, it is 400 miles from St David's to Lowestoft, and although an odd idea, people rarely see the UK as being 'wide', and always see it is being 'long' but it really is between those two places :D. I suppose this might be a bit of a weird analogy to girth and length haha. But the UK has both doesn't it? Lol. Sorry, felt like adding a mad post. Glad you are both well.

      If that's a mad post, we'll have more of them 😁 Love little facts like that. Girthy and lengthy? The UK, you do us proud 😍😉 You're right though, the width is still something to be considered - think how far it is from Kent to Cornwall too! And even though they are on the same level-ish, Suffolk and Norfolk couldn't feel any further from Wales. Never mind the fact that actually it's often quicker to go up the length than across ways.
      Cheers Gary, thanks for commenting 👍 😍

    Glad it worked out in the end 😅 Im not so up on van life, I live in a boat so have very different challenges, but is the park up and overnight stay becoming an issue? I seem to see a lot of videos about it recently?

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  11 днів тому +1

      Hello, well there are definitely increased restrictions with vans when it comes to car parks etc. Some places are easier than others. We manage fine because we don't always expect pretty park ups, in fact we are more than happy with a layby, as long as we can park our van where we need to for the day if we're out somewhere. But nonetheless it is still harder than in some European countries, so I can understand why people find it difficult and it probably explains why there's a lot of videos on the subject. We do use campsites too for services, maybe once a week or so if we're on a long trip.
      I hope boat life is treating you well, I'm sure that does have its own problems!

      @comealongdear Thanks for the comprehensive reply, I see a lot of people going down the government clamping down on our freedoms because they can't control us nomad types, I'm not convinced, who knows, boat life is much slower than van life, 2 mph max 😀 but you can pretty much stay anywhere for a max of 2 weeks before you need to move on, so that's good, thanks again for the reply, happy travels Darren 👍

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  11 днів тому +1

      I'm not sure I fully buy that either, I mean sure it's another rule/another restriction, but I suspect that's more about a few vans that have ruined it for others. I don't know. We'll never really know, but it's always a hot topic! It does affect us at times, but as I say, so far we have managed OK and just lower our expectations. It helps being a smaller van.
      Two weeks to stay somewhere in the boat sounds like a pretty good deal! I had no idea there was even restrictions, but that sounds more than reasonable if you like to move around anyway. Thanks Darren, happy boating to you too 😊
