My deaf friend told me that the best part about being deaf, is that you can swear like a sailor, have a happy smile on your lips, and people that don’t sign just don't know. It’s hilarious.

I know this is oldish but asl is pretty amazing. Just like there's docent accents between different parts of the county there can be different signs depending on areas of the country. The east and west coast sign and certain states sign certain words differently. For instance the sign for cookie is generally have your hands bent into lime of a claw and trap it on the palm of your other jand like a cookie cutter but slightly turning it as you tap. In az bend your point, ring and middle finger, hold your pointer and thin kind of like a C and tap your pointer and middle finger on your chin. On average though most fluent asl signers can recognize almost all the dialects in asl. Each county also has their own version of sign language such as BSL which is British sign language. Now from what I understand an asl speaker can understand a lot of BSL due to similarities in the signs, facial expressions and from the few wires they can understand the context. I myself am still learning asl negate I have a deaf daughter so I'm not fluent at all and hopefully I got all the facts correct. If you are ever interested in learning asl I strongly suggest looking up Bill Vicars here on UA-cam, he's an actual Deaf teacher who records his class sessions where he teaches asl. He's also really easy to follow, teaches all different levels and even teaches asl grammar which is really unlike the grammar of English. His videos are also silent so you can watch them anywhere and he's recommended a lot by the deaf community.

It even develops the same as spoken language in babies: hearing babies babble out loud, deaf babies sign babble! And deaf people think in sign langauge. And yes BSL is different; I've heard French sign language is more mutually intelligible with ASL and I know BSL has a different finger spelling alphabet. But I'm hearing too so I don't know for sure. So yeah take all this with a grain of salt I've been learning ASL for two semesters and I love it and I've learned so much about Deaf people and their language. :)) ~:~
We had integrated deaf/hearing classes in my highschool and one of my deaf friends (who had been in an exclusively deaf school for most of her life) told me about this very subject: "I suddenly found out that people could hear farts when I came to high school because everyone in the hearing classes would stop and look at me all at once when I felt it come out!!" 😂
I love that despite speech sounds coming out "unnatural" to hearing ears (too nasal, not enunciated, etc), every deaf person I've ever heard laugh sounds completely natural. Makes me appreciate how laughing isn't learned, it's completely instinctual
its what people call a ""deaf accent" since they're only taught how to speak in a sort of limited way since they cant hear how they actually sound. But yeah I do agree with you! Its honestly very adorable and good to know

Mark Rodriguez majority of the schools in the UK if not all don't teach us. Schools talk about not wanting to isolate pupils but fail to teach us a skill that could potentially save someone. How r we to communicate with people who r deaf they t just being isolated. It's so dumb. Hope they start teaching

Honestly, this inspired me to continue learning ASL. But also, on a more important note, can we all just appreciate the vocal express of the interpreter? I know it's pretty much her job, but she made this video as enjoyable as the lovely and very funny people in it.

So far I've just been using a website called Memrise. It's go-to website for learning languages as a free site that doesn't require you to interact with anyone. The format is like playing a click-and-choice game though, just so you know in case you don't enjoy game-like systems.
Nice advice. With Memrise, depending on the course you pick for the language, there can be gifs for sentence forming. For example with the one I use if I'm learning a sentence for the first time, I can see a gif of the teacher's facial changes, hand movements, and order of words. However, I do like your suggestions and will probably try them out since there's a community center for the deaf near me. I've really wanted to go inside and see if I could just walk around and get a feel for sign language/that part of my community, but that's after I get better with basic signs and when I finally get a better handle on my social anxiety because right now the thought of doing that feels intrusive and, while I know its not, the anxiety is telling me it wouldn't be appreciated to me or I'll probably be seen as really rude and ignorant.

I've actually seen 2 deaf people argue in sign language and they do use a lot of emotion without having to say anything. It was the quietest argument I've ever heard or seen but the tension in the air was still there as if they were loud.

Timmy and his translator sat next to me in 6th grade, and I was completely drawn in. 5 years later, he was my date to the winter formal at the Oregon School for the Deaf. K I really want to learn sign language- how are you doing it?
So far I've just been using a website called Memrise. It's go-to website for learning languages as a free site that doesn't require you to interact with anyone. The format is like playing a click-and-choice game though, just so you know in case you don't enjoy game-like systems.
Nice advice. With Memrise, depending on the course you pick for the language, there can be gifs for sentence forming. For example with the one I use if I'm learning a sentence for the first time, I can see a gif of the teacher's facial changes, hand movements, and order of words. However, I do like your suggestions and will probably try them out since there's a community center for the deaf near me. I've really wanted to go inside and see if I could just walk around and get a feel for sign language/that part of my community, but that's after I get better with basic signs and when I finally get a better handle on my social anxiety because right now the thought of doing that feels intrusive and, while I know its not, the anxiety is telling me it wouldn't be appreciated to me or I'll probably be seen as really rude and ignorant.

Um I am sorry to be that guy but it has origins in 100 years war. When French captured English soldiers they cut off their middle fingers so they couldn't use their renowned long bows. So whenever English won battles they showed French middle finger in the meaning of go fuck yourself

I've actually seen 2 deaf people argue in sign language and they do use a lot of emotion without having to say anything. It was the quietest argument I've ever heard or seen but the tension in the air was still there as if they were loud.

Timmy and his translator sat next to me in 6th grade, and I was completely drawn in. 5 years later, he was my date to the winter formal at the Oregon School for the Deaf.
