If you don't have a fast PC, you won't be able to preview Twixtor properly. You're gonna have to render it out to see the results.

Idk if you'll ever respond, but this tutorial worked out perfectly but.. What I also want is making the audio have smooth slow motion as well, if that's even possible? or do I need some other plugin for that?
EDIT: Nvm, figured it out. But, if you see this, do you know if there's a way to slow down the audio clip to 8x instead of the 4x limit?
You can export the 4x slow audio and do another 2x on it, but it'll start sounding really weird. The sound you hear on super slow mo videos are actually sound effects. You should be able to find slow mo sound effects packs all over the net.

Thank you for this excellent tutorial! One question though... The pre-render works for me but it usually takes a min or so till it’s done, while on your video it seemed to be instantly pre-rendered. My PC is strong enough normally speaking, so can I speed it up with some kind of Sony VEGAS setting?
Lower the preview quality so that you just have enough to fill your preview window clearly. The lower the preview resolution, the faster the prerender.

What if I have audio? I am doing a Counter-Strike clip where I shoot a gun and I want to slow down the flick, everything is fine except the gunshot repeats 4 times. (I am doing 1/4 speed) Can you help? Thanks.

I have tried Twixtor tuts before but all of them didn't show the step of creating the subclip, so my slow mo was always cut off, I subbed and liked. +Redified Hi, you can stretch out the audio by holding down CTRL and dragging. Right click to view properties and makes sure lock to stretch is enabled. Vegas can do up to 4x slower audio. If you want it slower, just render out the 4x slower audio, then do another pass on it. If you go more than 8x slower, some audio may sound really, really weird. lol.

Hi! Do you think that with the blur effects + twister pro would work better?
you should apply blur after twixtor. You need the sharpest images possible to get the best results from twixtor.
When i do try to do this, i set my speed to 50 and double the video length, however it just replays once halfway then repeats for the second half again so i get half the clip twice. any ideas?

You can use smart blend for panning/moving shots. But if the camera is fairly stationary, just leave it off.

I shot a video of my son shaking his head with his long hair, to test this out. I shot it using my iPhone 6 plus, with 60 fps.
Now I did the steps from your video (except I didn't cut any part of it) so I applied the twixtor effect, but when I play the result the image is just stil image it doesn't move. What do you think I did wrong?
Oh by the way, it says in my Vegas Twixtor, without the word (PRO). Is it the same?
Hi, did you play directly on the preview, or did you render it out first? Twixtor may not render in realtime, depending on how fast your PC is, or how high the quality of the preview is set to. If you did render it out, first thing I would check is the Twixtor speed used. The value is already at percent. 25 means 4 times slower, and .25 means 400 times slower. That might cause it to appear very still.
Let me know how your troubleshooting goes.

Thanks for the quick replay. No I did exactly as you, highlighted the videos on the timeline, hit Shift+B, then I hit preview and the image is just still. So I didn't render it just direct preview inside the Vegas itself.
I didn't understand what you mean with ". 25 means 4 times, and .25 means 400 times" do you mean the space between the point and the number 25 ? What should I type inside the Motion Sensitivity box ? I just typed exactly as you did 12.500,000 and extended the video 8 times.
I see. Nevermind my comment about the speed. Had a friend before who put in values in decimals, so his video was so slow it almost stayed still. lol.
Is your preview set to good/best quality? Vegas may not show previews for Twixtor properly, depending on how beefy your computer is. Try doing a test render using at least 10 seconds of your clip. Select a 10-second area and render with loop region only checked. If the slow motion works there, it could be just the preview bugging out.
Oh and in my case, it says (Motion Sensitivity) and not (BG MotionSens) as in yours, and as I said, mine says only (Twixtor) without Pro.
Oh I got it to work when I extended the video 4 times, then set the Speed% to 25,000 .. Why is it different than in your video? Now if I wanna extend the video 8 times, what percent should I type?

Gonna try tonight but i still can't understand how extending the sub clip works. It should be looped but works just fine.
Extending the subclip is done to match the length of the slow motion. For example, if you do 4x slow mo (25% speed), then the clip becomes 4x longer. Normally when you just drag and extend, the clip just loops. But when slow mo is applied, the clip will just match the length.

Select a portion of your timeline and press Shift + B. This will render that part in your RAM. That way, playback is smooth, even when you have a lot of effects.
U recorded this in 60fps? Can u show u render settings?
Hi, I'm on mobile right now so I can't screenshot, but if you just want the settings, I used mainconcept high CABAC at 22mbps, 1920x1080, 60.000 fps. UA-cam recommends 12mbps for 60fps uploads, but I set it higher coz I also keep it as a local copy.

So that u guys know .. this is very cpu intensive! So if u don’t have a great cpu I recommend using velocity. It’s almost as good as twixtor, and it’s build into Sony Vegas

If you stretch the audio to slow it down, it's gonna sound warped. Most videos with slow mo use a separate slow mo sound effect instead of the real audio.

I can only have max 59,940 fps (Double NTSC) on project settings. Is it any difference?
+Oscar Bjørnøy you can manually type in 60.000 in your project settings, and save that as your preset. If your source video is captured at 60.000 fps, then having your project at 60.000 fps would give you the best results. If you captured at 59.940, set the project to that. Basically, just match the source material. Normally it shouldn't make a difference, but for super slow motion, any variance in the frames would become more obvious, the slower you go.
How do you make the audio strech for the clip rather then repeating 8 times
Sony Vegas can only do 4x slow/stretch on audio. Just hold down CTRL and drag the edge of the audio clip to stretch it out. Render that section only as mp3 (or any audio format you prefer), then import that output audio and stretch it x2. That will give you 8x slow audio. Take note, some sounds get really weird beyond 4x stretch, and may require cleanup.

@@Deadaccount0028 That's kinda the thing for smooth slow motion, you need consistent frame rates. If it fluctuates/frame drops, it will look like stuttering when you apply slow motion to it. Try recording at 30fps if the console can't do consistent 60fps. As long as there are no drops in the 30 fps, it should look smooth when you do the slow motion. Just change everything in this sample project from 60 to 30 fps.

Can you help me, I did everything like in the video but the rendering time is crazy, it takes 10 min to render an 20 sec video,
and it drops to 1-2 fps in preview mode, Im using sonyvegas Pro 14.
That's normal. You're rendering a lot more frames than 20 seconds since you're slowing things down and generating the frames inbetween.
when i render the clip for some reason the video cuts off half way through! do you know why this happens?
Haulin Media try rendering with CPU only and disable GPU acceleration.

You extend the clip to match the length of the resulting slow motion. Make sure you apply the new speed setting on Twixtor. Example, 50% speed means the clip will be twice the length.

RAPID did you check if the source material is sharp? Try going over it frame by frame. Also, if the scene is too complex, or if the camera is moving a lot, it may not worl out very well.

just go over it frame by frame on certain sections. If you don't see a lot of blur, specially in movement, then Twixtor should be able to interpolate just fine.
Whan I do that it creates me a loop.. how can I fix it? It seems I didn't got it
If you enter a loop, it means you over extended the clip. Double check the speed setting and make sure the length matches it. For example, 25% speed means 4x the length. 12.5% speed means 8x the length, and so on.

RIP Playboi Cactus you can type it in directly on your project settings. For the output render, make sure you pick an output format that supports 60 fps, like Mainconcept. Just type in 60 fps manually.

It's not the same length. I extended the clip length to 8x, to match the 8x slow mo. Watch 2:21 onwards.

It might be similar to TomiTom1234's issue. We may have different versions of Twixtor. Try extending to 4 times the length, then applying 25% speed instead. Those settings worked for him.

Flames video explains that starting at 2:15. Basically just match the length to the amount of slow mo. 4x slow mo means 4x the length, and so on.

Flames are you trying to make the slow mo a specific length? Try using ctrl + drag at the end of the subclip first. Lool at the properties and check the playback speed value. Set it back to 1, then use the value you saw as Twixtor's slow mo percentage. Like if you saw 0.6333 then use 63.33 for Twixtor. after that just test the connection to the non slow mo clip. You may need to trim a frame or two.
sometimes when i try to do the ram preview i only get like a frame no matter how long the clip is

I am so frustrated right now. I got an 60 fps video. But when I slow by half (50%) and type in the Speed 50.000 the clip almost just like 2-5 frames which is stupid. Can you help me ? And when I dont use twixtor it is still choppy but not literally standing still.
If you're using a fairly old processor, it's impossible to get a clean preview of Twixtor. You'll see the actual result after you render it out. Alternatively, you can pre-render, just like I did on this video.
well I don't think my intel core i5 is the problem. When I pre Render the video the clip is not that smoove how I wanted it but i'ts not that bad. I heard RSMB is good too but when I used it the clip just got fucked up. Thanks anyways
Los Kantos Tooopyn RSMB is more on providing a film effect through motion blur. If you want the same effect as the sample here, you'd need zero motion blur. Anyway, try disabling GPU acceleration and see if that helps with your output. Best of luck. Cheers!

what is the best smooth slow motion speed for 30 fps?
Same procedure, but change your project settings to 30fps. Just don't expect it to be as butter-smooth as 60fps.

Try doing a RAM preview (select a small portion, then Shift + B). Twixtor is very heavy on the system, so most PCs will struggle to show you the effect in real-time.

If i extended the clip 3 times then how much speed do i have to use???
Use 33.333. It's always 100 divided by the length you extended it by. So 100 / 3 = 33.333 (Twixtor only goes up to 3 decimal places, but it actual number you need goes on forever). You may need to trim a few frames are the end of the clip if it goes a bit out of sync.
For best results, use speeds that give you exact values (not infinite decimals/non terminating numbers).
Examples:
4x length = 25.000 speed (100 / 4),
8x length = 12.500 speed (100 / 8),
10x length = 10.000 speed (100 / 10),
and so on.

So I went through all the right steps, using a 60 fps clips and all. But for some reason all I get is a freezy clip, its not slow motion, more the opposite ;(
QuickStriker is it choppy? If that's the pre render, it's normal. Try doing an actual output render to see the results.

yea you can skip pre-rendering. I just use it to check before doing the actual render output.

you need to activate the plugin. If it's showing lines, that means it's in trial mode.

Yes the whole screen, i'm very new at this and vegas. No haven't tried that, I'll look into it :)

+agony ZENITH on your render settings. Whether you're outputting mp4, wmv, etc. Different formats get different side effects from features like GPU acceleration.
Haven't done anything to the GPU, but can that change the red screen in the plugin itself, when i change the speed from example 0% to -1% it turns red :/ and when I change to something above, the screen just lags or freezes depending on how much I turn up the percentage. Can hear the sound on both though. xD
If you enter a negative speed, it will play the clip backwards. So if you do this at the start of your clip, there will be nothing to play, and that could cause the error.

FlowNark it's 100 divided by the times of the slow down. So if it's 4 times slower, 100/4 = 25. That's 25% speed.

Thanks! Yes, it's okay for the preview to be laggy/choppy. It won't affect the actual output when you render it out.
bro if i try to pre render it, it stops at 1.17 seconds and the whole thing works except if i move it up 8 times its like it skips frames really smooth but not like your video
You need to allocate more RAM in the settings to be able to pre-render longer lengths. Options -> Video -> Preferences -> DRAM Preview Max. In this demo, I allocated 4096 MB (4GB) from my 16GB of RAM.
Alternatively, you can reduce the quality of the preview to increase the pre-render length, if you don't have too much RAM to play around with.

sorry i ask so much man.. but if i pre rendert it in the preview it looks awesome but when i render and watch the clip i studders so much like 4 frames played over and over again for 5 seconds
BeatJunkiieeNL Gaming make sure your source video doesn't have repeating frames. Any repeating frames will get multiplied when you apply slow mo, and that's where the stuttering comes from.

There are a number of slow motion tools out there, so you can try other options. This procedure requires both Sony Vegas and Twixtor though.
You can also use the built in speed envelope from Vegas, but the results aren't as good as Twixtor.
