He said the art style was a turn off for him, but to me it's probably the biggest pull. Made me legitimately interested in playing.
You should also try out Dark Devotion if Unworthy interest you, they're quite similiar.

I'd prefer Morrowind over Ravenswood, regardless if one of them looks better.
Morrowind has so much more to offer me and yes this includes nostalgic feelings. Another reason might be the Soundtrack. Another one the sheer complex design of the game itself where Ravenswood looks like it has only the combat part of Morrowind, which is "click left button / mouse button to attack; Hold left button for stronger power attack", so yes this is definately not Morrowind's strength.

Unworthy is such a great game. I would highly recommend playing it without a guide because it would spoil an epic ending. Also I had countless moments where I would literally say “wait that worked?” during boss fights and just random moments throughout the game. That’s one of the things I love about it, the surprising amount of creativity And options you
have for dealing with “impossible” situations. If I encountered a tough enemy combination or boss I would simply just switch up my tactics and weapons to deal with the situation. Speaking of bosses the boss fights are fun like very fun, every boss is unique and memorable so if you play through the game again you instantly remember what that boss coming up will be and how to dodge all it’s attacks allowing you to easily melt it since you
beaten it before. I would highly recommend Unworthy it’s a very fun game and you will have a great experience like I did.

I unironically love Neopets The Darkest Faerie. It was one of those games I got as a kid because I thought the case looked cool and while I didn’t beat the game as a kid, I still return to it every now and then. It’s odd to me because now that I’m older I typically don’t experiment with non mainstream titles (to a degree).
Knowing the Neopets lore... A Neopets Souls-Like with anthropomorphic animals makes a lot of sense really.

There's a trend with the Chinese souls-likes: High budget, good animations and art, solid combat, something missing that would make it more than a tech demo. (Also usually either unfinished, abandoned, or both.)
Edit: That last one kinda violates the High-budget, and solid combat requirements, but the rest still applies.
What they lack is, usually, more content. Looking no further than Bright Memory it's an awesome game but literally has only 1 level. The developers are working on a remake, but still, I hold my point

The Chineses are great at pushing out gilded turds. "Good" surface level visuals (until you realize they all look nearly identical to each other and have no character) with the unfinished gameplay and the trademark generic system fonts.

I think this might be true for classic Metroidvania games, but is more often than not untrue for Souls-Like Metroidvanias. Dark Devotion comes to mind .

Honestly Neverinth looks pretty fucking sick combat-wise yeh. Kinda a shame they stopped working on it bcus it probably could have been a really fun game with a bit more content and balance
@@umbralumbreon7380 Neverinth definately had potential, giving up on the game so early in its creation due to "low sales" just points out what an odd world we're in right now but its not an uncommon situation for early access, it seems they just straight up ran out of money making what they could in the game. Unfortunate.
Unworthy reminds me a ton of a small indie Roguelike called Gloom. When I saw it I thought for sure it was from the same studio but they are different. I can't believe that the animation and art style is so close to identical and I can't image Unworthy taking insipration from Gloom, considering just how small that game is.

i know this video is a year old, but i’ve recently found your channel and, after watching the most recent episode, wanted to binge through this whole series. up till this point, it’s made me laugh more consistently than anything else i can think of, owing mostly to your delivery and the bizarre games you’re often playing. all of my laughs have been short and brief (though no lesser in quality). however. the start of the juice world segment up until around 8:20, is the hardest i have laughed at anything in *months*. it felt perfectly engineered to kill me on the spot; the hesitant comment, your dry delivery, the goofy title screen, the robotic voice acting, just everything came together to murder my internet poisoned, sense of humor ruined brain. i am going to treasure that clip forever, because i don’t think it’ll ever *not* make me laugh. thank you so much for this serious, for showing these bizarre games, and for putting me in tears laughing in only 40 seconds
Come on, Neverinth got some juicy Nier: Automata' attack animations. The little light sword whirl and the long-sword charged up attack.. It's straight up stolen from N:A.
Oh damn you're right. I found myself wondering why some of the animations were really nice and polished while others were bad, and that certainly explains it. Here I was prepared to be impressed by something in the game. My mistake.

@@rafaelbordoni516 the small sword light attack string has one attack where you fling the sword out and it rotates doing damage.
Spear+heavy sword heavy attack has you plant the spear down, swing around it while kicking the sword to do damage.
That's some anime BS now that I'm writing it out...

I had to play Juice World after seeing it in this video and I gotta say I'm a changed man, truly a masterpiece and it was legitimately fun and intriguing trying to find all the things you can do in the game. For anyone interested after you find the house with an attic/basement that has a hole leading to that weird underground area shown in the video there is another hole in one of the towers leading down to what I'm going to assume is "Hell" with a boss monster. After beating him leave through the portal and you will see your buddy from school in the graveyard who mentions the Snake teacher you ditched at the start of the game, at that point my Flight and Energy was upgraded pretty high so I started flying directly up (since we came to the graveyard from falling through the juice door) I wanted to see if I was able to return to the school which yes you can, the teacher is waiting for you with a sword and you end up having a battle with her. Trippy game would recommend.
Pineapple is op.
On top of all that, the game does in fact have an ending.

I wondered when you would find Unworthy, I have a soft spot for souls-likes and I have played quite a few, Unworthy is an underrated example and one of my favourites, by now you’ve played and reviewed most of if not all the souls-likes I have played except maybe Sinner Sacrifice for Redemption I don’t recall you playing it as of yet.
I love that neopets game, I used to play it all the time on the PS2. It's still a pretty solid game.

For anyone interested in playing Neopets TDF, a few bits of advice from someone who played that game an absolute ton as a kid:
Stock up on potions of Meerca speed. They are cheap and greatly reduce the time you'll spend running around.
Don't just mash the circle button. You do a lot more damage by timing your attacks properly.
Save at every chance you get.
As a side note, I'm surprised that you never mentioned the huge amount of game-breaking bugs the game has. I know it is possible to not run into them but if you are lucky but the number of times they've made me quit and reload was frustrating as all Hell back in the day.

There’s this game called “Children of Morta” that’s super good. It’s a top down pixel art dungeon crawler but I guess it could also be considered souls like? Either way, it’s worth a shot, very good game but can be monotonous at times.

That's Chinese games in general really. Like half the games we get that come out of China have a bizarrely anime-esque female MC regardless of how little that fits into the actual aesthetic of the world. They also love them some numbers, so many games they make just hit you with a deluge of points like he got in the video. And it doesn't even actually change that much usually, you'll get enough XP to level up 500 times and get the improvement a game from anywhere else would have in five, it's bizarre.

I grew up playing Neopets The Darkest Faerie! I still love it, even though I see its flaws now. One thing though, I always saw it as more of a Zelda-like than a Souls-like
I got rid of my copy before I ever finished it. I kinda want to get a new copy and play it all the way through this time.

17:20 A good portion of the bosses drop new starting gear, so you can start with better gear. Some of this gear drops randomly, but most of it is from bosses. This gear can include consumables that you'll start with every time. That's how you beat the harder bosses without having to go through the whole dungeon again.

As a girl, I'm here to say that "Bloodborne on PC" are the only three words that I want to hear
If they add some new stuff I will definetely buy it again...I'll be honest, for me is the BEST exclusive game of ALL TIME, and I'm not a PS fanboy, I had(and still have) an Xbox 360(not a PS3), and a good enough PC, I just choose what is the best for me personally at the time and when I saw Bloodborne I was like" YUP! Definetely get a PS4 this time!"

Glad to see you covered Unworthy! Criminally underrated game. As everyone else is saying, the level design and boss design are surprisingly well done, but the real catch to me has always been the music. Sure, some songs just kind of fit into the "generic dark souls opera boss battle hullabaloo" genre, but others become much more memorable, especially through leitmotifs. In the fight against Narcoss the Anvil, blacksmithing noises are incorporated into the score, to say nothing of the "secret ending" mechanism that I'll leave spoiler-free...
Dark Devotion is badass. I’ve been really enjoying that one on PS4. I really like the main character. The pixel art is great and the hunt for new gear that can be made by the blacksmith in the hub is fun and compelling.

I've actually played Unworthy! I didn't finish it because of the difficulty but I enjoyed as far as I got.
The guy who developed that game is currently heading a studio developing a metroidvania called Crowsworn! I'd recommend checking out the Steam page as it looks quite promising

On dark devotion: you're suppossed to give blueprints of new equipment to the blacksmith, that's how you get better starting gear on each run
your review of dark devotion really accurately describes why I was so obsessed with the game for like a week then lost all interest. As I started out I really enjoyed the exploration, bosses, and combat but needing to retread places I had already been so much mixed with running into stuff that was just a bit difficult made me basically lose the drive to play it

I remember seriously playing Ravensword: Shadowlands on mobile when I was like 11 and for some reason absolutely loving the game.

I had the exact same experience. Completed it a couple times, man it was a banger. Unfortunately he missed out on his chance to get a fucking pterodactyl mount to fly around the world lol, that thing was broken though. I remember just flying over everything, not needing to fight through enemies

The "Unworthy" game looks sick! Like, animations look amazing (to me at least).
Try it out. It is one of the best indie 2d souls-likes on Steam. It has fun gameplay, great level design, great atmosphere, memorable boss fights and an AMAZING soundtrack. It is a bit on the short side but it is extremely good while it lasts and does not waste your time with padding or fetch quests.
The 'Souls-Like' from 2000 I go back to every few years is 3DO's Crusaders of Might and Magic. They developed the PS2 version first, and then rebuilt the game from scratch for PC, resulting in wildly different games concerning story (and sometimes even gameplay). I found it on GOG a while back; it's definitely worth a look. I'm loving your series! It keeps me entertained. :)
"Unworthy" reminded me of that old game from gamejolt I found years ago called "red rogue", it's UI elements feel very similar and the theme feels like an upgrade.

I got Ling when it was pretty cheap and after I wrote my review didn't play any further. I gave it the thumbs up mostly because of the moments like at 18:28, because some of the views were just really nice. Also, when I did manage to get the parry/attack times down, the combat did feel pretty weighty, which I enjoyed. But it ended up just becoming a mob-rush bullethell which just didn't allow that combat to shine like it could have done.
Love you pineapple, I've watched you so many years so to see something I wrote featured even briefly in one of your videos means the world to me.

Pls try out "In celebration of violence". It's an amazing souls-like with lots of charm and neat mechanics. Also has some cool lore and obscure as hell. The definition of hidden gem. Hope you play it.

Man, I remember seeing ravensword on the App Store as a kid and thinking it was the coolest crap ever (not that I had any clue how to play it). There’s one house that literally just has an angry dude in it who killed me repeatedly.
I’ve never been a fan of fromsoft games such as dark souls, I’m more of a DMC type of guy or God of war, but even so I love your videos man, also the dude at the beginning “Who only like tapping one button” I think he died to the first boss, blamed it on the game, then got mad, the first time I played bloodborne I was genuinely mad, I calmed down and came to the realization that it’s just not for me, your videos are basically the only souls content I watch and your videos are great!
