The thing is I wanted to make Bloodbprne-like game in "lovecraftian retrowave" - I came with that weird style and with help of our artist I think we did pretty good job on making the world - you can check early trailers. But investors wanted us to make multiplayer game - because "PUBG IS POPULAR LETS MAKE PUBG". So I came up with that pitch of "pvp focused soulslike". I that was my huge mistake. Because I know nothing about PvP, I don't play, I don't like it. So on released the game had - as I think - pretty fine visual - but it was unplayble. @@guyofminimalimportance7 True, not an expert, just heard the term the other day with a brief explanation. But as to being souls like, I think the games, needs a safe point(bonfire, lantern, shrine, mistle) and a currency gained from enemies that can be lost at death.
You really don't need to be that rich. Just raid a local fountain of all the coins stupid people throw in there (seriously, it's not a wishing well, what the fuck are you doing) and you have more than enough spare change to kill a man.
I don't think Mirador was bad, but it had all of it's content made by other players. While that concept can work, when it does that is usually because the player can pick and choose stuff they think would be interesting. Just having it be a random selection does not work without some kind of filtering system, since most encounters are going to just be these basic, barely functional enemies.

@@phildigiglio6986 Holy shit you have no idea how helpful this was. I've been trying to figure out what specific OS:RS song this was for a few months. Thank you kind stranger.
@@VisionT100 why didnt you just search in the game's soundtrack bruh? xD
@@F2PMegaGod I did, several times. The problem is there are hundreds of songs in the OSRS soundtrack. Really easy to skip over it while searching through.
8:04 My boy Artorias really needs to eat a sandwich or something.
"Or something."
Life has been hard, man.
9:52 "not sure what to expect with this one"
I would probably expect demonetization.
Fun fact: the name of the game, "hentai no hero" roughly translates to "pervert hero" or just "hentai hero" in case its talking about the FORM OF ART
Translation from Russian in Egress:
"Hey, can you go and kill this monster? I can't reach it from there!"
"Your battle is over. You might just behold the madness bestowed upon your enemies."
"The Ctulhu is playing!"
“He’s throwing money at me. He’s throwing bags of money at me” lol
This skill is a long run meme kinda skill in the series, damage reflected by the sum of your money,so in late game it's actually THE killing blow.
It's a shame egress is so bad. The concept of a pvp focused soulslike was interesting, and the original world style they advertised was eldritch retrowave.
The maps and models, assuming they weren't all asset flipped, were really freaking cool as well.
I mean, game doesn't look that bad visually
It's *literally* Fortnite meets Bloodborne meets Demon Souls
I know this is more unintentional and a product of laziness but sometimes these asset-flip worlds have an ethereal, dreamlike charm to them
I was working on Egress) Basiaclly I was the game director for the first year, but also technical artist/designer/programmer - and I loved the "lovecraftian retrowave" that we made. So I left the project and the new multiplayer-oriented director came in. And well... it was weird) What was happening to game in attempt to "make it work" after my quit is big mystery to me) I hope it can be a good lesson for game developers - don't make a game if you don't love it. Don't make it just because it's "popular genre", it won't work
11:36 Tfw feeling when you try to talk to someone but you accidentally just stab them to death. So relatable
3:22 The Runescape Nostalgia hit me hard with that music
Rainbarf Rex what rs song is that? It’s making me very nostalgic
@@MurphyAndFriends I'm not entirely sure, but it should be something very early on and not part of membership. It might even be the soundtrack of either Lumbridge, Varrock or Falador.

That moment when you can hear Runescape music in the background of the featherfall game. Either copyright or Pineapple added this in. I have no idea!
Dude I realized that too. I was waiting to hear the goblin death sound.
I'm actually playing RuneScape as I watch this - I thought I had somehow accidentally turned my music on in-game.
fuckin a i knew i recognized the music
The same music plays across several gameplay cuts seamlessly, so it's definitely not coming from the game.
The music during Brume also has a RuneScape feel to it but I don't recognize it so I can't be 100% sure.
"Erectus Bitedefer" LMAO, French people will understand

Dark Souls translate to Chinese can be “黑魂”,so that “剑魂” is more like “Sword Souls”
Yeah, when he said Sword Spirit my assumption was that it was probably intended to be Sword Souls, but I didn't know for sure. Thanks for confirming my suspicions!
That's 剑魄, google translate is correct.
Dark Souls has been Dark Spirit all along
How u translate Kungflu?
Eugene Rider 魄 is pretty much the same as 魂. I personally prefer translating "Spirit" into "灵” because "恶灵" is always associated with "evil spirit" but not "evil soul". I am not saying the Google translation(it still sucks) is necessarily wrong, just wanna provide the most "common" version known by us. After all you can say "Dark Souls" are similar to "Shaded Spirits", but it creates some disconnections for most of us.
I just discovered this channel with the latest video in this series and decided to go back. I love your style of rating the game as you go and summarising your thoughts. I have to say, hearing you sigh during H no Hero as your character spun around in the air was pretty funny

welcome to the souls-like genre.
“Souls like” to most critics now is it just has to be mildly difficult
@@guyofminimalimportance7 I believe the term all the souls ganes and things like nioh codevein, fall under is masocore. Essentially a subgenre, basically designed to frustrate players. Through either difficulty or complex mechanics.
@@guyofminimalimportance7 True, not an expert, just heard the term the other day with a brief explanation. But as to being souls like, I think the games, needs a safe point(bonfire, lantern, shrine, mistle) and a currency gained from enemies that can be lost at death.
Remember when most critics were totally on board the Souls Like Train when Demon's Souls came out?
I thought it just means clunky outdated combat.
14:25 Imagine being so rich you can kill a man by pelting him with your pocket change.
Dragon's Dogma has that feature, actually.
It's the most viable way of killing the final DLC boss on a low-level run.
Sekiro has that feature
You really don't need to be that rich. Just raid a local fountain of all the coins stupid people throw in there (seriously, it's not a wishing well, what the fuck are you doing) and you have more than enough spare change to kill a man.
You clearly haven't played pokemon
@@vitriolicAmaranth or just buy one of those arrows that 1 shots anything
I don't think Mirador was bad, but it had all of it's content made by other players.
While that concept can work, when it does that is usually because the player can pick and choose stuff they think would be interesting. Just having it be a random selection does not work without some kind of filtering system, since most encounters are going to just be these basic, barely functional enemies.

Have a wonderful day/night Mr. Iron Pineapple.
If the video was sponsored and monetizes and he refunded the non enjoyable ones, what has he lost or even risked?
@@Chance57 It's likely he doesnt get to refund the majority of these. Also, I try and keep in mind that ultimately, whatever he earns from these videos are his money. He doesn't necessarily have to reinvest as much as he does, especially if some of these video games get very little play per cost ratio. I appreciate the willingness to do so when he could chase a different, or even, more free to play only trend...
