I just want to point out that Brume and Featherfall are both from the same developer / publisher, Sockpop Collective. They make a game every two weeks, so they are kind of like game jam games. Sometimes it's really cool to see what they were able to make in such a tight time frame.

It seems to be someone following Codelikeme's tutorials and using the samples he uploads, and just shaped some random terrain, placed some monsters and sold it.

I learned today that more games should have "Big Spoon" as a weapon type.
In Dark Souls 2 you can use a ladle as a weapon. That's essentially a big spoon.

That dodge upgrade is actually surprisingly truthful, for IIRC, 0.016 seconds is a single frame at 60 FPS. Likely a rounding issue, but it offers upgrades by frame.
I just realized, in the 5th game (at 9:45) the npc is called Bitedefer, which literally mean Iron Dick in french.

I never dumped any points into adaptability. Was fine the whole game. I respecced into full adaptability and didnt notice much if any difference.

When a game are so iconic it became a genre... Example was DoTA... Back then there was no league, no HoS even the terms MOBA wasn't a thing... So soul-like games just need a term that all people agree with..
A lot of games are still not categories in genres.. which cause some issues in copyrighting.. some of them are minecraft = alot of blatant minecraft copy out there we all know, but there also some good one that doesn't copy but still could get striked because people still don't agree that minecraft is fall under genre of "sandbox open world survival game" SOWS (we still need improve the term on this one)
Another example of game that */should/* become a genre are Dynasty Warriors (DW) Series... In china, there is a term for this kind of game it called "Grass-Cutter" game, most DW-like games are actually made from the same developer/publisher, Tecmo Koei, One Piece, Samurai Warior, Gundam Battle, etc... So people don't categories this thing (because it was made by same company).. but at the same time there alot DW-like games (maybe) are not from Tecmo Koei like Onimusha(capcom) and Sengoku Basara..
There is no body, agent entity, that could standardise the games category... Which cause a confusion... Just like like Soul-like game (people still arguing about it because it has no term).. or worst one, day people will mixed up Grass-Cutter games with Soul-like one...

I made it to the end of the playlist, starting from episode 20! It really WAS a heck of an adventure, seeing all the variations that can come up in the genre! I learned a lot about how bad things can TRULY BE in a game that's ACTUALLY FOR SALE, and I learned to never underestimate art style in terms of a game's charm!

Later on you have a large skill tree, two ultimates to choose from, many open areas to explore, tons of side quests, a home base system with crafting/farming, and an engaging story. I can confirm this game is good, a solid 8/10 game.

You said you want to branch out into other game genres. There is a hidden gem called "Stories the Path of Destinies" which is a top down fighting adventure game with quite appealing combat, that is basically a timetravel adventure book. It's a great game with really great characters and a very appealing art style. It's really a game I hope gains some traction so we can get more from this developer tbh.

So Featherfall was made by a studio called Sokpop collective, who basically make a game like every month or so and get money through patreon. At the end of last year they added all 100+ of their games to steam, so that's why it didn't have any reviews cause it's only been on steam for 2 months even though it's been released for like a year.
Edit: I'm like 80% sure Brune is Sokpop too

The entire game looks kinda trash but that little goon you turn into after you die is adorable and I love him.
Sword Spirit Actually looks kinda sick. The style of it gives me Zone of Enders vibes for some reason. Someone needs to get on a translation patch for that game. It looks stylish and smooth enough to be a pretty fun, game.
I completely agree. Visually the main character reminds me of Raziel of Legacy of Kain, and the gameplay seems more like metal gear rising with a side of warframe.

I don't think Mirador was bad, but it had all of it's content made by other players.
While that concept can work, when it does that is usually because the player can pick and choose stuff they think would be interesting. Just having it be a random selection does not work without some kind of filtering system, since most encounters are going to just be these basic, barely functional enemies.

I literally bought Guijian a few weeks before this vid came out, would highly recommend if it goes on sale, especially if you have a controller you can plug in, it's basically playing a Wuxia novel, so if you're into that, highly recommend.

Sokpop (the creators of Featherfall) looks like an amazing dev team! I have just checked them in their steam.
It's a shame egress is so bad. The concept of a pvp focused soulslike was interesting, and the original world style they advertised was eldritch retrowave.
The maps and models, assuming they weren't all asset flipped, were really freaking cool as well.

I was working on Egress) Basiaclly I was the game director for the first year, but also technical artist/designer/programmer - and I loved the "lovecraftian retrowave" that we made. The thing is I wanted to make Bloodbprne-like game in "lovecraftian retrowave" - I came with that weird style and with help of our artist I think we did pretty good job on making the world - you can check early trailers. But investors wanted us to make multiplayer game - because "PUBG IS POPULAR LETS MAKE PUBG". So I came up with that pitch of "pvp focused soulslike". I that was my huge mistake. Because I know nothing about PvP, I don't play, I don't like it. So on released the game had - as I think - pretty fine visual - but it was unplayble. So I left the project and the new multiplayer-oriented director came in. And well... it was weird) What was happening to game in attempt to "make it work" after my quit is big mystery to me) I hope it can be a good lesson for game developers - don't make a game if you don't love it. Don't make it just because it's "popular genre", it won't work

I actually tried out featherfall when I first saw this video, and it's pretty damn fun. Pretty short, but pretty fun too. As he said it actually might be really fun to speedrun since there are a lot of skips that were overlooked in the level design.

Eugene Rider 魄 is pretty much the same as 魂. I personally prefer translating "Spirit" into "灵” because "恶灵" is always associated with "evil spirit" but not "evil soul". I am not saying the Google translation(it still sucks) is necessarily wrong, just wanna provide the most "common" version known by us. After all you can say "Dark Souls" are similar to "Shaded Spirits", but it creates some disconnections for most of us.

The same music plays across several gameplay cuts seamlessly, so it's definitely not coming from the game.
The music during Brume also has a RuneScape feel to it but I don't recognize it so I can't be 100% sure.
