  • Bluefin tuna are special because they can cook themselves! It may sound strange, but it's true. They are warm-blooded and their muscles produce body heat as a result of their movement. Usually, this heat is not enough to cook their muscles. However, their bodies have a high blood flow rate and specialized blood vessels that allow them to dissipate heat when they swim in cold water, preventing their muscles from overheating. But when they are caught by fishermen and pulled out of the water, the stress and sudden bursts of muscle activity can cause them to warm up fast. So, in this video, we'll learn how fishermen prevent Bluefin tuna from cooking themselves when caught on a fishing line.
