    I once saw a lobster that was the size of a small golden retriever, it's antenini(sp) was about 11 foot long. At the time when I saw it I had no idea that could have been a world record as I was scooba diving and was foreign to the area and just figured that must be normal for the area and they must be some inedible species. I followed an adolescent sea turtle under a rock ledge and when I can around the ledge the turtle was frozen still as if it was scared. I looked behind it and maybe 4 feet back there it was, the largest lobster I'd ever seen. When swimming down to the rock I saw it's antenna but I just though it was a snagged and broken off rope. I was wrong and from the turtles reaction he hadn't seen anything quite like that either. This was in Costa Rica in case anyone was curious. It sounds ridiculous but I swear on my children and everything I care about in this life I'm being truthful. Anyway just figured I'd share a fun story, have a good day.

    Extra large species are so rare, after taking all those years to grow I'd like to think most modern anglers would want to release it rather than kill it.

      One of the earliest writings we have describe a king's wealth, it brags about his great harbor filled with ships. So we had as a species invented boats long before writing. That being said, there's as many fisherman on the sea in one day today as there would have been over a hundred year period at that time, mostly because of the refrigeration, the size of boats, and global population. Combine that with the improved fishing/boating technology and it seems unlikely that people far enough in the past for the evidence to have disappeared or gone yet undiscovered holds standing records on catch size.

    It's interesting. Giant squid can max out at maybe 43 for a fully extended female. That "surfing squid" you showed as a 16 ft giant squid dying. The fat purple-red one by the boat was a colossal squid also called a giant antarctic squid and a giant cranch squid. Even if it isn't as long, the 20-40 ft colossus can weight 3x more. It's also a broad squid able to swell up with water and it has a wide spade 'fin'.

    • @curbozerboomer1773
      @curbozerboomer1773 2 роки тому +2

      Actually scientists believe that there are giant squid that could easily reach 50+ feet...we simply have seen very few specimens to accurately speculate as to size...colossal squid are the more impressive species, due to their bulk, and those razor-sharp suckers, that rotate!...and we have seen very few of these monsters!

    I would like to comment on the section of this about sea bass. Most people who go bass fishing and brands named after bass are talking about the fresh water large or small mouth fish. They are professionally fished by many people and is a very well known name of any even amateur fisherman.

    I am an amateur compared to these hauls, but my biggest fish was a 58.5" Mahi Mahi bull that I caught in St Thomas, USVI. I also caught a 7.5 lb blackfin tuna (which I was told was rare around those parts), and quite a few large Barracuda (a couple were over 4' in length). That was my best fishing catches.
