I love Thelma, she's so sweet and understanding of the culture and has the utmost respect for the gypsies when most others don't. I respect them as well but understand where the other side is coming from as well but it's not fair to pass negative judgment upon everyone. Although so much of modern traveller culture truly is fascinating, I can't help but wonder how + WHEN did it transition from centuries of mysterious nomads who were deeply connected to the ways of the earth and their own mysticism - to today's culture that seems to prioritise glitzy image and a boastful ego, as well as making profit from horses that don't seem to be treated very kindly and pure patriarchal misogyny in the form of beautiful young girls, full of potential, forced to conform to a life similar to that of a 1950s housewife. And don't even get me started on the "grabbing". The book "We borrow the earth" by Patrick Jasper Lee, a Romani Chovihano (gypsy healer) is a wonderful book to read if you wish to gain insight into the old ways of the traditional Romani gypsies 💜

@@georginaohara42 a lot of gypsies treat their horses incredibly well. They might not have expensive Stables to keep them in, but they know their stuff. I've known many a good horse who've come from gypsies, and they're less nervous of people than some of the best bred horses out there.
No, it's not 5* accomodation, but horses are hardy animals and travellers have relied on them for hundreds of years.
The travelling community gets a lot of things wrong, but they know their horses
@@cd55896 nah they mostly dont. I've seen so many abused horse who come from gypsys. Where I am gypsys chain up their horses in random fields and leave them with no water, don't trim their feet etc. not to mention the fact they race them on concrete ground which is so bad for their legs, plus on public roads which is even more dangerous and they have them pulling carts and being ridden way too young. Some do look after them decently but most don't.

Wow this pisses me off😂 as an equestrian to see how some of these horses are treated is disgusting, I’m not coming for gypsys or any other people but ‘trotting’ pushing horses out of their natural stride on HARD concrete, whipping and yanking on mouths, multiple people on one horse, horses/ foals far far far too young in harnesses and gear they shouldn’t have on until minimum 3 years old, not all gypsys and/or travelers treat horses like this but most do and it shouldn’t be allowed I know it sounds like I’m picking apart people and cultures but just because it exists doesn’t mean it’s okay or should carry on. As someone who had two horses (1 thoroughbred 1 new Forrest pony) stolen from their field by travelers and found by police and public tied up next to a busy road dumped in a hedge abandoned rugs taken off and stolen I know how they treat horses, I’m just pointing out how horses should be treated like I said some things they do are great like rugging the horses, farrier/good hoof care etc
