- The fourth episode of this brand new series, GYPSIES NEXT DOOR, explores for the first time why the Gypsy and Traveller communities often struggle to live side by side.
18 year old Scarlett and 16 year old Tammy share a trailer on a permanent site in Luton with their family. Scarlett doesn’t want to be “typical traveller wife when your husband comes home from work expecting dinner on the table”. “If you want your dinner, you go and get your own” she says. She has dreams of being a successful model and non traveller model Danielle Mason, is going to help show her the way.

An Individual or one family isn't s reflection of an entire community..I see gorger girls pissing on the street recently..is that a reflection on you personally? No. They aren't even the same ethnicity as Romany people. Romany have hygiene rules. It's not something we would do. And I doubt many Irish travellers would do it either.
Her so called "friend" promised her it wouldn't be underwear. When she saw that it was in fact undwear she was understandably upset and her so called "friend" got angry with her and called her a diva. Then she pressured her into wearing things she wasn't comfortable with and keeping the photos she wasn't happy with. Poor girl. It's not a bad thing to have respect for yourself and your family. I am not being crude about them it's just a fact of life that she is going for the wrong job for her if she can't even do that lol.. We often get travellers in our local park during the summer. Every time they vandalise the childrens park. Last time they used them as a toiltet. Human excrement all over the place. Equipment ripped apart. Graffiti.
Rubbish strewn all over the surrounding area.
Group of guys hanging around the entrance of the tesco just opposite, randomly threatening customers and staff. One teenage girl got punched. The store had to close.
We all dread it every year.
And Travellers wonder why people are prejudice against them.

So they have been on the list for a house since he was 17 years old?? Why isn't he working instead of having 4 kids almost back to back to back to back??

A common theme/complaint in these stories Travellers leaving human piss and excrement all over the place, not to mention the huge mounds of trash.
As someone who's spent years deployed in combat zones, I can say that human waste is a serious health hazard. It attracts rodents, spreads disease, and just smells atrocious. But tlhere are fairly expedient ways to deal, including the wonderful and inexpensive "wag bags" that have an absorbent dry gel in the bottom. They really changed the game downrange -- no more burning barrels of waste in gasoline (talk about stink). You can easily dyi with trash bags and good quality cat litter.
Point is, you don't use a public playground's sandbox for your business.
The shoplifting and stealing, traffic law infractions and most of all, constant fighting don't help, either. In these vids, little kids routinely push, hit and kick each other -- hard -- while grownups look on and say nothing.
So there's a lot more here than "if only people would just understand our culture."
I've spent time with Travellers in Bosnia and Kosovo, and it's a fascinating culture. It would be a tragedy to lose it.
But some things are going to have to be evaluated and potentially changed in order to keep it going.
That’s because you were with Roma Gypsies while in Bosnia and Kosovo not Irish Travelers. Two completely different groups of people with different backgrounds and different ways of living. Irish Travelers are equivalent to what we call a certain group of people and that’s poor YT trailer trash who live the same exact way

I 👍 agree completely. I live in the states, and have owned hair salons. I've had travelers here come into my salon and behave like spoiled brats, constantly complaining. Beautiful girls most of them, but dressed like street walkers , they never tip , try to get out of paying by complaining, and steal me blind! Hair accessories, shampoo, even my whole full tip jar! I put a stop to it by calling a meeting with all the salon owners in the area. Henceforth , we would each call the others if we saw them coming. I don't wish anyone harm , but they need to do better by their fellow man if they want to live with us.

The only two reasons ppl get evicted is not paying the rent or tenants are tearing the place up. If you can't keep a roof over it head STOP having children bc they are the ones suffering for the parents bad choices

I consciously decided just one child was all I wanted and to be honest all we could afford ,it’s not babies that are expensive ,it’s teens and higher education.

The problem is and will always be that the travellers take, but never give. They have their expensive cars and expensive weddings and make a lot of money off their communities, but when have they ever paid for toilet and shower facilities, or rubbish removal? They just land, take and move on.
I used to have compassion for them. Now I've got none.
They are like the majority population in South Africa. They want everything for free, but contribute nothing but destruction.
Their expensive cars are leased and their expensive weddings are saved for and crowd funded. Most of them are getting FANTASTIC deals on all this crap. That's why part of the culture is "get it as cheap as you can but never let anyone know" it's actually a pretty universal aspect of being poor in the English speaking world. People say the same shit about rednecks in the US.

NONE OF THEM MENTION THE KINDS OF JOBS THE MEN HAVE THAT ALLOW FOR LAVISH CLOTHING, STRTCH LIMOS, BLING ON BLING, ETC ETC. ARE THEY DRUG RUNNERS? That is the only line of work that would provide that kind of cash. Therefore they can go to a regular campsite, that offers electric and water and gas hook ups, picnic grounds, showers, and laundry area.
And pay the weekly fee like all the other campers do! Easy to do, no problems if rules are obeyed without question.
@jeannedinovo5543 Also keep in mind they don't contribute to society. They don't pay taxes or land. Most have very few bills. But that's my biggest question. If you have money for HUGE weddings and stuff, then you are capable of saving up to buy land or a house. I couldn't even afford a trailer, let alone a massive wedding. I make sacrifices. They just take. Taken take. And expect others to give them stuff.

They save money for celebrations, and it runs out pretty soon. Homes are expensive! $300,000 American dollars. When a family is finally tired of moving every few months to a different location, wife and kids begging to stay put, the smarter ones invest in a home and begin paying property taxes. Oftentimes, two families will share a home and its expenses, like two brothers who get along. But most just love the traveling lifestyle and won’t give it up, despite its inconveniences. 🙄
The travelers don't have to give up their culture! They need to buy their own plot of land to camp on! Every other home owner, tax payer, hard worker, law abiding citizen should NOT have to foot the bill for the travelers! Or pay for the clean up of their aftermath!

It's not always so simple. They have zoning and way more red tape to get through in order to buy land and other things. They are very heavily discriminated on.
Work for money to buy land. Pay taxes like everyone else. Take responsibility. No one owes you anything.

@@seriousros7280Yes because of the behavior and disrespect towards the community. If you want to join a community, you have to adapt. You can't live how you want when you're part of a community. You can have traditions. But no one owes you anything. And when your lifestyle affects others, it has to change. Steal , committing crimes, fighting, nasty remarks and disrespect won't get you far. They are just as distributive. And they discriminate against us as most are to them. When you don't pay for or contribute towards your neighborhood and neighbors, you end up destroying what you don't work for. It's an entitlement issue. They want to take. But not give. What do they do for others outside the community? Nothing. At best case scenario. At worse, they are loud, messy and commit crimes. You'll even see the youngest kids kicking police or shouting, this behavior is not acceptable in a community.
I felt really bad for the family whose house got destroyed. They really waited a long time and really needed that house I hope that family is doing well

I am from Australia and amazed that these caravan people don’t have a toilet in their van. Why don’t they go to a caravan place that has toilets and showers. Maybe I am naive but am surprised that no facilities for them if they in a caravan.

I am absolutely blown away by the attitude of the families that got these huge, beautiful, brand new secluded homes for FREE! And they are wanting more!!!!!!! After leaving a trail of waste, garbage, and more for others to clean up and running up other people's bills by using amenities that do not belong to them! People work hard to earn money to pay for their own homes, electricity, water, acreage, homes, taxes and much more! What gives any person the right to steal and vandalize someone else's property, home, business? I also don't understand how the travelers get their money to pay for their trailers, vehicles, lavish clothing, parties, limos, cosmetic surgeries, fuel, recreational vehicles, food, care for animals and SO MUCH MORE!!! I completely understand why people are upset about the invasion and destruction caused by them! They should be held accountable for their actions and live by the same rules and laws of every other human being!!!💥

They have no respect for anyone outside their own community that's the trouble. Behaving like they do towards everyone outside their community, stealing, leaving trash and excrement and going in places for services but not wanting to pay for them, means no one outside their community wants them there. @@nataliefoss5629 you should see the ship show in Cork Ireland. Apple established their EMEA HQ in the 1980s. Due to historical reasons the travellers were there first so to tidy them away, Apple built them all lovely little houses. What happened? The travellers moved in stripped the eletricals and plumbing of copper moved in horses in to the houses and pulled the caravans into the yards. Gospel truth.

Horses are not meant to run on hard surfaces, nor should they be kept in a field without shelter.
Actually, according to animal welfare organisations, horses CAN be kept in a field without shelter. Their naturally waterproof coats and type of hooves make them suited to being outdoors in all weathers. It's fine, as long as they have sufficient water, grass and the field isn't flooded. It's donkeys who need the shelter.

@ciarakristos111 I'm very aware of what animal welfare believes, but I disagree, and believe they say what they do to appease the traveler activists. In this day and age, we should provide shelter from excessive sun, heat, ice, snow and rain for all animals in our care. This isn't the Middle Ages.

I think what we find as strange is the fact that they dress as if they are tarts, they way they dance in such a seductive way, yet there morals & standards are so high. They get chaperoned before the wedding, get married young & start a family so soon. There's no unmarried teens, no living together. Their families are tightly knit & supportive.

I mean, listen…there’s a lot we, as viewers, don’t see. I cracked up over the makeup and loved the other look that was a bit more, professional. However, as I was watching and judging and making fun in my head, when that one girl mentioned the s+i ides, I felt bad. Ok so the clothes and makeup and tans aren’t for everyone, but no one is respecting the fact that these girls have crippling anxiety over how they present themselves not only to the world, but more importantly, to their families. You have to respect that pov because you don’t see that these days. Yes, there are conflicting and hypocritical things we can point out all day. However, we need to remember that s*icide is real and as Edward Bulwer-Lytton said, “the pen is mightier than the sword”.

Everyone suffers with anxiety, especially how they present themselves, they are not the only ones! Everyone in this world suffers! Facts! I have traveller blood in me but my traveller family do not act dress or look like this! They're natural and wear clothes that make you look human! Not clothes that you think are going to make the world love you! Nahhhhh mate. Be yourself & be natural! Natural is key! Being yourself is a gift that not many people actually have! Always too worried about what others think & say about them! Yes they're human just like any of us but there is no need for the OTT rubbish really! I know people and I have family who have took their own because of anxiety, depression, PTSD & all of that so don't come with this "no one is respecting the fact these girls have crippling anxiety" because they don't. There is a lot more to modeling than looking good, you have to be professional, be there on time, taking direction, not being a drama queen and go home afterwards. @@ChristinaG83 Ahhh yes she is the one going to be a rocket scientist. The camera cuts away. It starts again 5 minutes later with the girl with two black eyes saying how she loves housework and cooking for her man.
That area in Ireland where houses have been made for the travellers have large gardens, on one wide camera shot 27:33 there is a horse in the garden of the bungalow at the front left, stood by the wall. Why not put them in each garden and let their kids play on the front, or alternatively, tether the horses on the central green area which the bungalows are built around.
If you look on an earlier part of the video though, you'll see that field is a flood field 23:30 as it was flooded upto the 'bridge' where the caravans are parked so its only wasteland anyway. I'm shocked they built on it.
It's crazy how some think that non travelers are just given their houses and didn't work for them.

Well to be honest I like most people just steer clear as a lot of them are very rude to non travellers and given the opportunity ( like out numbering you on a train 30 to 2, things like that they often will start trouble).. More so the boys in fairness.. But I've had a few groups of traveler girls run up screaming racial abuse at me and busting out laughing like it's the funniest thing in the world lol.

Scarlett's gorger friend should have been a real friend and backed her up on what she could do based on her background. I am glad the people at the photoshoot was willing to listen to her and work with her in her comfort zone. As a model, you should have a say of what you are comfortable doing for a photoshoot. It is a job but it is your body and you have to sleep with your final decisions.
Accepting a job you can't do is disrespectful to the company. When hired you consent to the job duties and description. She knew she was going to an underwear modeling shoot. She agreed to that. She had no right to go to a swimsuit competition or modeling job then complain about the expected attire. She knew what was expected of her! She can get into catalog modeling or a more modest variation. But don't go for one of the most revealing jobs and complain.
Entitlement is an issue. I see a lot of demanding, but I don't see any effort to carry water. 'We want this....' and you pay for it. 'It's public land...' that we have to clean up after you leave. If entitlement is a part of your culture, then it's a part of your culture that you have to excise.

Idk, maybe it depends on the area? I know there’s ppl in the US who use “Squatters Rights” but it’s more than just, “ok the neighbor has been gone a while, I’m claiming this as my own”. I don’t see the problem if no one is harassing or hurting anyone. If someone starts stealing electricity or starts defecting in public places then yes, the law needs to intervene- I mean really? Y’all had to poop in the kids sandbox? Are there no public toilets in the park? That’s just outright defiance, not a person who had an emergency. It looks so bad on the other families who want to just coexist peacefully and still retain their cultural identity and integrity.

Even the young kids will hit and yell. Many of them are trying not to make a mess and cause chaos but all over the world , it's the same behavior. And they will gang up and fight you. They don't abide by local laws and customs which is unfair to those paying for the neighborhood to be held to a higher standard. There are unwritten rules in society. Such as being quiet at night, don't use the bathroom outside. Or leave trash. The problem is these people don't pay for those services. There are no water hook ups or trash service. So they leave their mess behind for others to deal with. Poop. Food. Trash. Then they pick up and leave. That's not respecting a community. Or trying to be involved. They are similar to the homeless in the US. And want everything handed to them. They also don't pay taxes or anything. So it's easy to not care. That mentality is bred into them. They are not trying to join a community and live in peace. They are abusing the resources of that community and leaving chaos and mess behind. In a perfect world maybe they would show up. Camp a few nights. Be respectful, quiet and clean. The. Move on. But that doesn't happen. They dump poop tanks, scream, fight, drink, steal, and destroy communities. They live in survival mode with no F$_$# for others. But it's by choice. It's easy when everything is handed to you.
