      Axel Davis 9800 in 1 repair. Vanos pump blew up and in the process I changed the rod bearings and some oil lines. Tranny replaced rotors replaced a couple modules replaced. Brake pads replaced like 6x lol religious oil changes every 5K kilometres, honestly after the major engine repair it was other things breaking. The car had been abused and not taken care of properly by previous owner so I had to pay the price. I did a lot of mods and replaced clutch twice. Too much shit to remember. I just purchased a 2008 with 60k miles and 3 years warranty after being 2 years without a beast. I’m giddy again and hopefully this one treats me well. Oh and besides eventuri air intakes which I bought for 2500 everything else was done at an Indy

      @@K06E what was the mileage on your previous M5 when you bought it? As I heard that 2006 and 2007's are reliability nightmares. Is this true? Or is it an urban legend?

    • @K06E
      @K06E 4 роки тому +2

      Ata Orkun Oğuz I’m the wrong person to ask as every summer I was putting thousands into it. Mine was an 07 bought at 78k kms salvage I fixed it up. Just after 8k kms is when the pump blew on the highway after some very hard driving. Honestly the engine was mint after I replaced the pump and bearings. It was other stuff that kept breaking and my inexperience with Indy shops. Got ripped off badly the first shop I took my car to they made me change tranny then told me it wasn’t the tranny at all 🤦‍♂️ I had bought the tranny for 2k of someone and I couldn’t just return it. It’s safe to say I bought a lemon as it was abused and neglected maintenance wise. I drove it really hard too but also did oil changes every 5K kms not miles. My engine was always strong. Anyways I ended up totalling it at 122k kms in Jan 2019. Now I got this 08 beast with 60k miles and 3 years warranty, don’t be scared just buy one that’s fairly low miles and 1-2 owner car. My old one was written off 2x prior to me buying it and I was the 4th owner. This new one I bought I’m the 3rd owner and I have all the service records. These cars are intoxicating to drive. Keep up with regular maintenance and your good. Buy 08 if you can.

    It is a reliable motor! The S85 rod bearing issues stem from poor maintenance and lack of appropriate warm up time. The rod bearing issue is accelerated by cold 10E60 oil. Until I see my oil temp close to 200 degree's I don't go over 3K RPM's and give it 15 mins before driving at all! Try to change oil at 3K miles and no more then 5K. It is important to drain the metal shaving via oil changes as much as you can afford. Oil changes cost a lot on this thing but will save you money in the long run! I am in an 06 E60 M5 with 52K miles. I am getting my oil anaylzed just to be safe although I am not too concerned with my rod bearings as the car fax confirmed the previous owners got regular maintenence :) cheers

    Respect man, especially for daily driving it. My ‘09 is a weekend getaway machine only. My favorite thing about this car (except for driving it, of course) is how much it has taught me about the mechanics of cars. I never knew what a rod bearing was or how VVT worked until I started researching how to maintain my M5!

    I’ve owned mine for nearly 3 years now and it’s been fantastic , when I first bought it I had the throttle actuators changed with updated circuit boards ( Rebuild.... in the U.K. his name is Jason ) I highly recommend and he exports throughout the globe plus a fraction of the price that Bmw would charge.
    The only breakdown I had was the oil cooler positioned under the front bumper which was leaking it was probably a stone chip , that’s all I’ve had go wrong it’s a very reliable car I love it , actually mine is the same as this one in the video .... my advice is don’t listen to these armchair scaremongers that post negative Chinese whispers that are totally bulls+*^ just make sure when you are looking to buy one don’t whatever you do purchase this car without extensive history from either Bmw or a Bmw specialist that’s a must , always warm the car to temperature before taking the revs over 3k this also warms the gearbox at the same time , I wouldn’t advise using as a daily driver I use mine weekends only .... it’s a fantastic car to own all I’ve changed on mine is the Evolve Carbon Fibre air intake kit which gives a nice throaty sound under exceleration and the car came with a switchable active exhaust which sounds fantastic... 😎🇬🇧👍

    The E60 M5 needs a lot of attention in maintenance and repairs. You could have had a sweet brand new set of forged wheels, tow hook cover and wheel center caps on your stockies. Not financially wise to own one of these, and will keep most people struggling or worse yet broke. Thanks for being transparent. Great vid.

    I found a one-owner m5 with 15k miles.
    I found a diff one that's cheaper. looking for an e60 m5.
    I know that not only the rod bearings go out but the idle, throttle actuators go out and the clutch sensor goes out, leaky steering rack(sometimes).
    Just curious if having a combined budget of 15k for unexpected issues and preventative maintenance is a good idea or it should be higher

    I think if you can remove the rod bearing danger from the reputation , you have a high-end sedan with maintenance similar to other cars in it's class. The way you avoid rod bearing damage is by using no thicker than w40 oil. 5w30 is ideal. Just stay away from the 10w60 that bmw originally prescribed to this car, that was the cause.

    • @brandonherrera2891

    • @daliborpuchta1952
      @daliborpuchta1952 4 роки тому

      BMW prescribed 10W60 for a reason. I needs an oil that doesnt loose it's properties at higher temperatures, in which this unit operates. A modern high-end 5W50 might be an alternative, regular 5W30 not.

    • @NickKautz

      @@daliborpuchta1952 How do you feel about being proven wrong?

    • @grayantihero6059
      @grayantihero6059 4 роки тому

      Nick Kautz 10w60 is not the cause of the rod bearing issue. Sure it adds to it because of people not following the start up and warm up procedure for these cars but the most popular rod bearing wear theory out there now is the use of variable torque rod bolts and negligence within the factory installation specs for said torque values.

    • @NickKautz
      @NickKautz 4 роки тому +1

      @@grayantihero6059 I'm not shooting in the dark here , I race , I build motors, I've analyzed many failures. Bearing clearances that are needed for a w60 oil to form a proper cushion are typically 0.003" or more. The S85 has clearances of 0.0015" +/- 3. So that's 1/2 of the ideal clearance necessary. Some oil will still get in but certainly not enough for anything besides gentle use of the engine. And to further solidify my point , in 2013 BMW (quietly so as not to wake any lawyers) released a service bulletin adding 5w30 as a "possible alternative" to 10w60. Lol. Really? 1/2 the viscosity as an alternative? Clearly they knew 10w60 was a mistake.

      Im sure there are some independent shops that would be willing to do it, but for a crazy fee. It's not a common swap, and it's really only been done by a handful of people. DM Alex on the IG to see what his process was and he could probably point you towards the right direction! Best of luck!

    Problem with this car is usually they get into careless hands..... Know 2 people owning them cant say anything bad or extremely expensive. I mean if you can afford m5 you shall know what brake discs and pads are going to cost you..... And being m5 that car gets some shit from the owner otherwise whats the point owning it?

    Never seen someone get there arse cained so bad on parts for a car.
    Think you need to get trade discount my M5 for all the parts you mentioned here in the U.K. cost me 2K for everything and I did a lot more then you believe me.
    Where you got that amount from is insane you guys pay through your arse for these cars over there.
    Best thing to know NEVER OWN A BMW OUTSIDE OF EUROPE it’s a fact !!
    Always said if I lived in USA I would never drive a BMW a ford will suit me better.
    Unless they allow my trade account 60% of main dealer parts for me like I get here with same day delievery from the main dealers and all part stores.
    None of that china junk here mate we have a thing called quality control so this rod bearing wack is all nonsense one guy had his go and send the world into a frenzy, look after your car properly with proper main dealer parts and have no issues simple as that.
    I own 3 BMWS E46 and 2 E60s let me say I can safely say as all my subs know I haven’t NOT seen a single check engine light YET in the USA that’s like the normal over there.
    It’s called lack of maintenance and neglect

    The m5 e60 was designed to be driven hard. So if you just bought it now used. Obviously the first owner would have driven it hard. So expect a costly maintenance but hey you paid a mere 15 percent of the original cost. So stop complaining. Pimping aint easy 😁
