I'm 72 - I'll share what works for me in 4 domains - DIET, EXERCISE, HYDRATION and SUPPLEMENTS
DIET - Listen to enough diet videos and your head will explode. My takeaway after years of experimenting. Go as low carb as you can, eat good quality protein (I eat red meat, poultry, lamb and fish). Eat only pure food - cut out all processed foods, seed oils and sugar. Wanna know what is most important? #1 DO NOT snack between meals and DO NOT eat after 7 PM and make you next meal at noon the next day - that gives you a 14-16 hour fast). #2 Take a walk or go up and down some stairs AFTER you eat a meal. Engage the large leg muscles and they will suck up the insulin. DO NOT exercise hard, just a walk is fine. 10-15 minutes.
EXERCISE - Very few talk about this - regular exercise gave me the GREATEST improvement in my prostate symptoms - combined with the above diet guidance. You DO NOT have to go crazy with exercise - at 72 I walk, do some yoga, body weight exercise (squats, incline pushups, and lots of Qi Gong, all of which concentrate on leg strength and hip flexibility. DO NOT sit for more than 20 minutes without getting up and walking around the room. Sitting is a prostate killer. When you sit you fold your self in half, cutting off all the energy and blood-flow to the pelvis, PLUS you apply a lot of pressure right on the prostate. Included in my regime are daily organ massage (heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, spleen, bladder and intestines) , and tapping acupressure points.
HYDRATION - Yes, you can drink too much water - be careful - but stay well hydrated. Spring water, green tea (I can only drink decaf) chamomile, and hibiscus tea are excellent. I also drink 1-2 cups of Prostate Health Tea by BRAVO TEA. AVOID dairy and alcohol.
SUPPLEMENTS - My first thoughts were that there was some magic herb or supplement that would fix me. I would be willing to wager I have tried more supplements than 99% of you. YES, some help, some don't. It's very individual as each person is unique. My research and experimentation is on-going but here is my current stack - and let me remind you once more - without DIET and EXERCISE you are wasting your time and money. Some supplements will give you minor relief but you need to think long-term healthy prostate lifestyle.
Here is my current stack: (some I take every day, some once or twice a week)
    BLADDER/PROSTATE SPECIFIC
    Gokshuradi Guggulu (Banyan Herbs)
    ChandraPrabha Vati (Harmony Nutraceuticals)
    Organic Genitrac (Maharishi Ayurveda)
    Organic Prostate Protect (Maharishi Ayurveda)
    Kanchanar Guggulu (Banyan Herbs)
    Ultra Prostate (Life Extension)
Used as needed Bangshil and Fortege, (Alarsin Pharm), Shilajit, and Varuna
    MINERALS
    Zinc + Copper (Jarrow Formulas)
    Potassium/Magnesium (Life Extension)
MISCELLANEOUS HERBS THAT HELP WHOLE BODY
    Organic Moringa
    NAC
    Tumeric
    D3
    Berberine
    DIM
Black Cumin Seed Oil (Life Extension)
    Benfotiamine (Life Extension)
Final thought - if you want to fix your prostate work on your WHOLE body. To work on your whole body fix all the individual organs. Your prostate is NOT an isolated organ/gland that suddenly has a 'problem'. All your organs are intimately interconnected and need to work together. The only way to do that is with DIET, EXERCISE, HYDRATION and SUPPLEMENTS that work for you! Good luck gents.

Thanks for making this post, I've found it very useful. I'm in the process of finding what works for me, I am beginning to realise sitting longer that 20 min is not good, I'd agree it just puts pressure on the pros/bladder, I get up now and walk around the room, it does seem to allow by body parts to fall back into shape.

    • @michaelfforte
      @michaelfforte 5 місяців тому +2

@@totaltwit Very good! It's a journey of discovery. Many small things begin to positively add up over time. I have found improvements build slowly, but that is fine. You cannot expect to reverse years of imbalance overnight. Another benefit of getting up regularly is that just the physical act of getting up sends signals to activate your metabolism and muscles which is good for overall health and reduces excess insulin.

    • @totaltwit
      @totaltwit 5 місяців тому +3

@@michaelfforte yes I agree, JoD & lots of little things seem to add up. I'm on cath+bag avoiding turp. I've noticed I still wake up at around 01:00 (I have no sensation to wee) I check my bag and it needs emptying! I now accept getting up around that time helps my body to re-stable (with or without the cath+bag).
The bag also tells me how hydrated I am (colour/quantity) and what passes thru me quickly. Green and chamomile tea go cleanly through.
I've found the pelvic floor muscle exercises (stop and flo) help too. I use the cath. to measure how much I can move it in and out. Also doing Yoga exercises which has shown me my lower back (lumbar) is weak, feeling stronger everyday with those.
I read the prost. is a slow growing gland so I'm of the mindset this is going to take many months for any useful changes. Having accepted that, I make the relevant lifestyle changes and keep going with a good outlook. :)

@@totaltwit Sounds good! Interesting the waking up at 1 AM - in Traditional Chinese Medicine 1 AM is 'Liver Time'. The emotion associated with liver is anger and frustration. The liver is very active between 1-3 AM and is responsible for releasing toxins and making new blood, hormones and many other functions.

I’d like to see a study on how many men with enlarged prostate have bacterial infection. I say this because in all cases where my clients have gone to a doctor about prostate enlargement, they were never checked for urinary tract infections. When I asked them to get this checked, in all cases they had a treatable uti. Upon treatment the prostate enlargement was also corrected

I agree with you. when you get prostatitis it gets really worse from there on because the prostate for some unknown reason begins to grow faster than normal. doctors should begin doing preventive medicine especially after prostatitis but the generally ignore it afterwards as just an episode that happened with no long term effect. this and all overgrowth of cells in any part of the body will most likely end up with some form of cancer.

After listening to a 3 hr+ interview with a renowned prostate expert, I junked the Avodart my urologist had me on, after I underwent Green Light Therapy( cells impinging on the urethra vaporized by laser). After two months started taking 2 to 3 cups of tomato juice daily along with the supplements and noticed a very significant improvement in urges and frequencies. When I make my spaghetti I use extra water, I add soy sauce and hot sauce, diced hot peppers, half onion, celery and whole garlic. I let it come to boil, then let it set a little while, add a Big spoon of butter, then add a can of stewed tomatoes, drain juice first then chop up the rest, put in and stir, it’s no problem eating the whole pan and the juice has a little bite to it, it seems to relax my system and helps greatly with my bowel movement. Last year I got the newest and best treatment for bhp available today. It was like going to the dentist but much faster (15 min) and no pain at all. Only a small amount of local anesthesia and I could leave immediately after.
The method: The doctor infers a tiny catheter through the penis and when it reaches the blocked passage through the prostate, the doctor activates a small microwave source in the cathete. The time and strength for this microwaves is extremely carefully monitored.
Result: about a month later the urinating problems start to go away as the killed tissue gradually is washed away with urine. It continues to improve the following months.
In my opinion this is the king of non-invasive treatments in general, especially concerning that it is high effective and has no side effects.
This method is developed in Sweden by the medtech company Prostalund in the city of Lund, Sweden.
It gave me a new life and I am forever grateful.

Yes but I also find out through my own experience that cutting coffee and alcohol has done a drastic dramatic changes in my prostate. Seriously it’s one of the best decision I’ve ever done. I can sleep way better now without waking up 10 times per night. That alone it’s worth the new habit plus everything else such as less belly fat, less inflammation no sleep apnea and more energy just by eliminating coffee and alcohol

@@alanparsonsfan so if you research coffee it’s works as an stimulant. Its diuretic effects shrinks the veins and arteries to activate the fight or flight syndrome. The long term use of coffee destroys the mitochondria’s ability to produce ATP. It begins with chronic fatigue, inflammation, frequent urination, sleep issues that will lead to weight gain and subsequently sleep apnea. It’s the rise of cortisol levels of drinking coffee that basically exhausts your adrenal glands. I'm one of the lucky ones who got a real measurable benefit from Pygeum - dramatically reduced urine retention as documented by my urologist - as well as empirical benefits, eg. from waking up and having to visit the bathroom after 3 or 4 hours to sleeping 7 or 8 hours in bed without being awoken up by "the urge". In addition, I experienced modestly increased flow rate and continuity which even my wife noticed. I was taking 400mg/day and it was about 3 weeks before I noticed a real difference. If I took it on a completely empty stomach I experienced some moderate GI tract irritation but taking it with food ameliorated that.
Interestingly, I ran out at one point about 2 yrs in and noticed that I still retained the benefit even without the daily dose, though after about 6 months the symptoms began to creep back in; once I restarted the regime my symptoms improved again after another 2 weeks.

Well, I take Saw Palmetto 1 capsule 3 times a day since June and my PSA dropped from a 6.7-7.2 and went down to a 2.7 last month, while shrinking my prostate. Also, we know how the data is manipulated in all studies and for who is funding it. So, if a Pharma group is funding the studies that makes a synthetic that the natural competes against, they will fund the studies to get the result they want to show that makes the natural look useless. In fact, all studies are funded to get a desired result and much undesired data is thrown out when it skews the results they want. Growing up in and around Biomedical, I can say this for a fact for ALL studies. Take it with a grain of salt.

I have been taking saw palmetto most of my life as an eight year old boy I had prostate problems before I even knew what sex was. It was recommended to me by my doctor and told my parents I have four other brothers did not have this problem but everyone of them, experienced male pattern baldness I didn’t and I have been taking it all my life so I know it does some things to stop DHT from blocking the hair follicle and it does help with my prostate as I’ve gotten older if I stop taking it at all. I will start having problems urinating I also take berberine to control blood sugar and it works so I know these things can help. They are variable, though by the manufactures, but as for the last 20 years, the pharmaceutical industry has bought up and owns most of the supplement companies. It’s not to their advantage to give you , something that works better than their drug and they pay people to go online to discredit supplements..

Get you BP in check with diet and exercise and many other problems and things will right themself. Be well and nasal breathe. I bet that helped it too. I changed 100 things in 4 months. It took that long for the prostate to shrink and weight to come off. And BP to drop.

Excellent video. I'm 65+ with the same attention span I had when I was 8. I generally don't even try to listen to anything longer than 10 minutes because those videos tend to be infuriating long mixes of irrelevant babble, feeble attempts at humor, poor organization, stumbling stuttering fumbling circles of repetition, crushing statistical minutia, and inconsistent audio quality. At least for me, you nailed the balance. Outstanding editing, perfect use of supporting detail, just enough of boring-but-essential study stats, great organization...I need to stop or people will think we're having an affair.
I fought with BHP for 20 years and tried everything on this list and nothing worked. I'm 6'1" and 225, very fit and fairly lean, and my doctor(s) very candidly said there was little more I could do from a fitness side to improve my condition. I finally underwent two Urolift procedures (first one didn't last) and things are looking up at present.
I truly believe, with what we're learning about systemic inflation and the effects of a lot of food additives/preservatives, along with some fairly well-documented cover-ups by Big Pharma and the Food Industry, that BHP will ultimately be traced back to our diet and the chemicals we ingest every day that we're told are perfectly safe.

If I could do it all over, I would have had it removed in the beginning to avoid all of the suffering I went through.

same for me. It's been a year. I tested many supplements but BPH isn't just inflammation but a cell overgrowth which is impossible to reverse but I believe preventable. however covid worsened my condition and finally convinced my doctor to operate. for now incontinence and no erection is much better to deal with. I wish you health and a long life.

Totally avoidable by eating a whole plant diet.

I heard of a new procedure by the name of "Resume." What I found in the article was that this procedure involved them shooting balls of steam, which then would shrink the prostate. Furthermore, it would return all things to its normal condition. In addition, within two or three weeks, sex was back to its original performance. All this with minimal to no after affects. Can you tell us more about "Resume." Thanks, since I am looking to have this procedure done for my enlarged prostrate.

Yes, but it is a surgical procedure with its own risks and side effects from anesthesia....We are talking about non-surgical treatments in this video

It is called Rezume, and it has been around for many years. She did a comparison of several procedures a year or so ago and Rezume is one of them. You should be able to find it easily in the search bar. Rezume is like all other prostate procedures, it sometimes works well and it sometimes causes more problems that it solves. Research it intensely before making your decision. If you are concerned about preserving your sex life, some other options are Urolift, Aquablation and prostate embolization (PAE). There are also other options available depending on the size of your prostate and what exactly is causing the blockage. If your median lobe is projecting into the bladder, it is unlikely that the less invasive procedures will help you. Urolift and PAE did not work for me so I got a TURP (resection of the prostate, or the "roto rooter" surgery). Even though the TURP almost always causes retrograde ejaculation, my ejaculation did not change at all. Everybody is different. Best of luck to you!

Hey Doc, what’s your assessment of keeping the prostate drained via massage of the prostate? The physics makes sense if you think about it. There are a couple ways to do this of course. Would a single prostate ejaculation drain an appreciable amount of fluid?
Could you consider a video on this, covering both the digital (finger) version and a device?
    Thanks.

Have BPH, not much help from Saw Palmetto, but have seen improvement from Pygeum Africanum. Since pharma study showed some improvement, then don’t expect any further studies. Pharma doesn’t want to find a treatment that they can’t profit off, and they certainly don’t want to find a cure.
