My big question is speed- what determines what speed you start out at, or what determines trolling speed? I've heard things like a front moving in, run slow, fish are aggressive, run fast, bite is tough, run slow.... What's your thinking? I'm on the opposite coast fishing for landlocked Atlantics, rainbows and browns (Winnipesaukee, Big Sebago) thanks!

Can you give me some ideas on running your Double dodger kits. I bought several of yours and would like to know the best way to present the dodgers and what lure works best. Include early morning, during the day, high sun, and later in the evening

Well when trolled as a double treat it like any other large dodger.... They are great in open water and deep water. And don’t forget you can snap them apart and run them as willows or 4 inch fish eyes!

Your logic doesn’t make sense, but for some reason, it’s spot on. My small black flatfish outperforms my shiny lures in low light conditions 3:1. Go figure. On a side note, any idea where to find trout and kings on Shasta these days? I pedaled from Bailey Cove north for 7 hrs at about 1.5mph then came back at about 3 with the wind to my back. No downriggers but I’d have thought they’d be hitting off the top by now. I got skunked and can barely walk today.

Hahaha....I peddled for 7 hours 10 minutes when I did my speed spoon video and I was sore...LOL...
Shasta...I have a couple on the lake sources...The kings are a bit of a mystery now...The king fishing is no where near as good as it once was at Shasta, but maybe it will bounce back...Trout fishing has been inconsistent and the trout have yet to move to the top in a major way....When it gets decent I'm going...I've been on hold for weeks....
All across the state we've had odd conditions...We had that long prolonged dry fall. Then we've had some rain and snow, but overall it's been a really mild and warm winter...We've never had a big line up of brutal pacific storms like we often do....The result seems to be rather luke warm fishing at a lot of spots that are usually red hot this time of the year....Shasta fair, New Melones fair to poor, Camanche...Okay, Amador hot and cold, Almanor...Slow, Folsom slow for most with a few big fish......
I think we've got some great fishing ahead this spring and if the weather doesn't change it's going to pop early. Good news is that we've got plenty of water...But if the winter ends like it is right now, we'll need a rip roaring winter next year to say in the black....Shasta is like 40 from the top and there is snow up high so it should fill. Same with many of the other lakes....
Places like Collins...That has been slow, are jammed with fish that just aren't biting well. When they come to life....Boom..
Same kinda deal in the Delta...The conditions for striper fishing were very poor this fall. Too many weeds...The fish are there and when they come to life in late March look out....Without a big outflow the spawn is going to take place in the Delta rather than way up river. That is going to translate to red hot Delta trolling....
The dark lure dark conditions thing is real....Way back when I was a little kid in the 70s my dad would toss hair jigs for stripers in SF Bay at night....Most guys opted for a white lure...Not my dad...He went with black and usually outfished his buddies....Since then I've always know that dark lures perform in dark conditions.....
Guys that black bass fish at night, during the dark of the moon, rely on black worms and black jigs....

Fish Hunt Shoot Productions -Glad it’s not just me. I’m going out again Saturday and not sure if I want to try for Kokanee at Whiskeytown on the boat or head up to Antlers and head north in the kayaks in search of trout. I’ll let you know if things are heating up out there.
