They are fun...I get them every year, but they don't hold my attention because they are all the same size usually...

This is a great video Cal. I caught my first Koke accidentally while trout fishing. Then I started targeting them. I had success and then I got a downrigger and a fish finder and all the different Koke lures etc. Soon I was managing all the extra stuff I had instead of actually fishing.
Went with a buddy, I had all the gear and he was catching them from a kayak with a wedding ring and no bait. Very simple and eye opening.

Here is California corn is the most popular thing for tipping, but salmon eggs, pieces of shrimp and various types of PowerBait and Gulp! is used too. I've got them from time to time on lures with no bait and I've also gotten them on really big baits not intended for kokanee...

I gave up on corn 3 years ago and won't go back. Berkley maggots for me. Like you, I only have 3 or 4 different scents, but I get them in 3 different colors also. I use maggots exclusively with trolling flies for Kokanee and it's been good enough for me I'll keep using these.
I'm really enjoying the channel, Cal. Even if we do different things, I really dig hearing how you fish.

@@FHSTackle Funny you should say that about crappie nibbles. Besides trout I've caught bluegills and crappie using corn. I haven't been freezing my corn, I worry about the freezer burn killing the taste. But if you're catching kokanee on previously frozen corn then I guess it's fine! The added ProCure scent is just the ticket. I haven't heard about salt and sugar before, but it makes sense.

Hey Cal, another great video! I'm glad I found you on UA-cam; I remember reading Fish Sniffer magazine in the tackle store growing up. I was wondering if you've tried the Pro Cure Bait Waxx and if you had any thoughts on it versus the super gel? I really like the super gel but the bait wax looks like it'd do the same thing but with less mess.

Most important is to buy the new season lures and dodgers as those fish won’t bite last years fashion. Amazing how hundreds can be spent without even realizing two lures at a time.

We have fun on forums saying we were using NCS (natural corn scent) on our corn, gets guys all confused trying to figure out what special scent we are using. For me I tend to put procure Kokanee Special on my corn most of the time, 15 years ago I had at least a dozen scents on my boat on any given day but I found that more often than not koke special was enough.

Does anyone know why corn is so effective? I can’t think of anything in their natural environment that looks or smells like corn, so why is the fish’s brain so triggered by the stuff?
