Just to clear up the shoe situation. We had a nice spot on the beach were we lay down our towels and took of our shoes, at the entry we picked up some 'crocs' which were for sale to users of the beach which we changed into for comfort. We both needed to bathroom just before the skyline lights came on so we in order to save our spot, we left the towels down and a pair of shoes to indicate that we were coming back. I also had a backpack with all my recording equipment which i took with me to the bathroom. When i came back the shoes were gone, along with a pair of sunglasses, socks and hotel keycard which were inside the shoes, however the towels and sunglasses pouch still remained on the beach. If it were infact a cleaner i believe they would have just removed everything and not left the towels behind, so it seems most likely they were taking by another beach user. I did approach the beach security about this and was essentially dismissed with a wave and a grunt once i showed them the message on google translate that the shoes were missing. Now i understand i should not have left them, i didnt honestly think the shoes were worth taking or that it would happen, but it did. Anyways, not a big deal, they were just nike air force shoes (prob around 100 dollars or so), the sunglasses were designer but hey it happens. It didnt affect my trip, i still loved the city, the locals and the overall experience. After the incident i did check for cameras nearby but could not see any. Just in bear in mind this could happen anywhere in the world and it certainly did not change my opinion on china or how much i enjoyed the trip, but i thought it was worth sharing incase anyone else considers doing the same! all Love!
You can actually go to the police station and file a police report that your property has been stolen (I guess sunglasses aren't cheap). Chinese security guards don't have formal law enforcement capabilities, they are more like mercenaries than the military, and they can't help you find your lost property. The police do have law enforcement capabilities, such as checking surveillance records. So if you report to the police station and ask to open a case because your lost shoes and sunglasses are very important to you, they will help you find your lost property. I've had my laptop robbed on the street in the United States and my bicycle stolen in Australia, and although I reported it immediately, there has been no result so far. I left my phone at a breakfast shop in China two years ago, and when I returned ten minutes later, my phone was gone. I called the police immediately, and the police checked the breakfast shop's surveillance records and found that a waiter had pocketed my phone. Ultimately, the police got my phone back for me, and the process only took half an hour. China is a unique country, and reporting to the police is also a unique experience. Of course, it may be a little late for your shoes to call the police now, but if you encounter property loss next time, calling the police may be a good choice.
My hometown produces the best Nike Air Force One, which is very cheap in China. It's hard to believe that someone would steal Air Force One in today's China.
@@corvo6568 Did the waiter of the breakfast shop take your phone, because he wanted to keep it or did he just want to clear the table and keep your belongings until you return, but somehow he missed when you came back for the phone? And was the waiter in trouble or was the police more like "don't do that again! aight, we're out"
Maybe the cleaners assumed your shoes were 'thrash' and so, promptly removed them especially if the locals don't have a habit of leaving their shoes unattended for a while? If you notice, Chinese cities are very clean because the cleaners (in conjunction with machines) work very hard and efficiently. You might have better luck in getting back your shoes if you went to the police. Honestly, no Chinese in his right mind would steal a pair of worn shoes as A) for hygiene purposes and B) Shoes of all types are extremely affordable in China since it made most of them.

I am sorrry that you lost the shoes on the beach. I am sure because you left them on the beach the sanitation workers just assumed they were 'trash'... edit: 9:55 we do have a lot of negative sentiments over western colonizers, but interestingly, we didn't mind germany that much. They took over Qingdao for only 15ish years, and didn't really cause much atrocities like the rest of old western powers did. And hey, they gave up Tsingtao beer!
it would be quite cold, or I should say really cold since the city is located in the northern part of China. Not the best time to visit the beach, but it’s fine to explore the city❤
Sooooo many people leave their stuff on the beach, I’d imagine this was an honest mistake. Nobody expects real crocs and designer glasses to be left on its own when you can buy near identical ones across the street for $2 USD
Hi, Travis, since China has a population of 1.4 billion, it’s still necessary to be cautious. Most people are very friendly, but there are still some petty thieves around. I hope this incident won’t affect your travel mood. The video is great, thank you!
The Chinese people will never forget the colonial past and the 100-years of humiliation, but they forgave them already as long as those western countries also acknowledge their past wrong doings. Their keeping and embracing the foreign cultural influence just shows that.
Love these china videos! btw do you think chinese people are aware black people exist? (I know it may come across as very weird😂) but I’m really curious bcs i’ve seen videos online and it seems like they never see foreign people.
@@almiqdadali3254 haha I’ve seen those videos too, I would imagine they are in the more rural areas. But even as a western guy with red hair I had a lot of people coming up to me and saying hello, specifically in Taizhou! Some areas just don’t get a lot of foreigners, but don’t worry everyone is friendly
Hahaha, your comment made me laugh out loud. Hello my friend, many people in China have indeed never met foreigners in real life, but we also surf the Internet, watch Hollywood movies, and know a lot about the world.
There is a large Black community in the southern end of Baohan Straight Street, Dengfeng Subdistrict, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong, At one time it reached nearly 100,000.The Chinese nicknamed this areas as the "Chocolate City" (yes you are weird and ignorant) There is also a large German community in Taicang which is an hour drive from Shanghai where there are more than 500 German firms. Shanghai is the city with the largest number of expats and largest number of regional headquarters of international companies in China. It is estimated to be more than 100,000 expats living there.
This city had many expats, including German,Russian, American, black people etc...some of them left this city because of 3-year covid, and slowly they will come back.
