Just so you know that kid was just trying to demonstrate his cleaning foam product on your shoes. It's not like in a lot of south east asian countries where hustlers try to scam you. Worst case would have been a clean pair of kicks, with 0 pressure or obligation to buy. The Chinese government actually is pretty strict against scammers, and the penalties are harsher for those than scam foreign guests.
As opposed to USA, where it is the center of corp scams and ponzis. US alone attracts all sorts of criminals including war, finance, ponzis from all over the world.
The education we have received since childhood is to seek truth from facts. Lying is a serious mistake and almost all parents will punish their children.
I saw a similar case in a different travel vlog in CN. It were two guys doing the shoe cleaning together and they took more time to communicate via app translation. They explained that they are students from the local business school and they do this to practice different marketing techniques on customers on the street and to gain experience about peoples reactions. I think it was even the same product in the white box. But about the product itself, as you say, it was completely optional to buy it or not. They were more interested in the experience training. I guess the guy in this video needs to work a bit more on his communication skills, though. Or he practiced peoples reactions when he tries to sell in a really intrusive way or something like that...
China is definitely awesome! I lived in Shanghai for a couple years up until 2020. Would like to visit Shenzhen as well. The US media only spouts non-stop BS about China. Once you've actually been there, it's easy to see through the propaganda. Really miss Shanghai and living/traveling around China, and hope to be back there next year! ❤

Shenzhen is a mega city that's vibrant because most of the 17.5 million people are under 25. Many are there to work on their business. Just so you know that kid was just trying to demonstrate his cleaning foam product on your shoes. It's not like in a lot of south east asian countries where hustlers try to scam you. Worst case would have been a clean pair of kicks, with 0 pressure or obligation to buy. The Chinese government actually is pretty strict against scammers, and the penalties are harsher for those than scam foreign guests.
As opposed to USA, where it is the center of corp scams and ponzis.
US alone attracts all sorts of criminals including war, finance, ponzis from all over the world.
David thinks he is still in HCMC where many shoeshiners are out scamming foreigners at touristy locations with no fear.
The education we have received since childhood is to seek truth from facts. Lying is a serious mistake and almost all parents will punish their children.
I saw a similar case in a different travel vlog in CN. It were two guys doing the shoe cleaning together and they took more time to communicate via app translation. They explained that they are students from the local business school and they do this to practice different marketing techniques on customers on the street and to gain experience about peoples reactions. I think it was even the same product in the white box.
But about the product itself, as you say, it was completely optional to buy it or not. They were more interested in the experience training.
I guess the guy in this video needs to work a bit more on his communication skills, though. Or he practiced peoples reactions when he tries to sell in a really intrusive way or something like that...

Shenzhen is a mega city that's vibrant because most of the 17.5 million people are under 25. Many are there to work on their business. Many HKers like to go to Shenzhen on the weekend eat/drink/shop because they get better value.

The reason why the financial system is based around alipay it's circumvents the American payment system.
And it's pissing off the United States government because it bypasses any Direct transaction made through Master visa PayPal. Because the US has had a monopoly on global financial transaction. That is I kept the US dollar that dominant world currency.
