Noticed he switched to traditional grip for a bit during the fast section at the back end. He made all of that look really easy. Especially the limb independence stuff. Went cross eyed trying to tap it on my legs hehe.

Its 11 years old, came out when I was in high school. My friends and I used to worship this guy.
That being said, the video quality has deteriorated, and I got in touch with Jon himself, and he no longer has the original HD copy.
Still, the stuff he was doing in 2009 (and earlier) was awesome. And I love your take on metal drummers! Would be cool to know you checked it out

I've seen you enjoy some of the metal drummers in your early videos. I have a suggestion for you from one of your fellow newzealand(ian?) drummers: Jamie Saint Merat from Ulcerate. The drumming is out of this world. The band is world renown for their immersive sound and drumming.

I have three suggestions for great drummers.
Which one you want to react to I leave up to you, because they are all great in their own way and style. If I would include a song for each drummer the list would become way to long so see for yourself.
1 Adam Bjork which is a greatly skilled drummer for a band called "Bleeding Utopia", but also a really nice down to earth dude! His technique is swivel and wrist motion as far as I can tell.
2 David Diepold which is a "one foot blast master", but can also play really technical and progressive music.Also one of the few who uses the "push-pull technique" One of his latest playthroughs showcases his talent.
3 Matt Greiner is the drummer for a band called "August Burns Red" he's maybe a little less up to speed with the other two, but if you see him play you can't help but smile. He has such a great attitude and personality on and of stage.

Definitely a super talented performer, and his recent work is both unique and exciting.
There are a couple of Norwegian drummers you should check out Helge Andreas Norbakken, as an example, has the most unique sound and style I`ve ever heard - he is a true force of nature. Another you could check out is Børre Flyen. None of them are focused on chops, but what they deliver is beyond that.

he's not using a drum mat. as a drum refinisher. i couldn't help but cringe every time he hit the kick. even if it's a basic black kit. hopefully this is just his busking kit

@@hughneutron5303 no, not a brand name. Two completely different types of tape. Gaff tape is heavy cotton cloth pressure-sensitive tape with strong adhesive and tensile properties. It is widely used in theatre, photography, film, radio and television production, and industrial staging work. It is heat resistant and doesn't damage the surface it has been stuck on or leave a residue.
Duct tape is made from vinyl or other plastics, is less heat resistant, and will leave residue or damage to the surface it has been applied to.
