Wow, didn’t see this! What an honor (again!). To answer those fantastic questions at 2.36
1) Was recorded around 2016 I guess, so almost 25 years old. 16 mentally.
2) Taco (the Norwegian way)
3) Dark Blue
You are the best 🤣👌
Absolute legend. ☝🏽
Hey Baard I'm your fan since the seventh wonder audition :)
Every time I watch your drum playthroughs I question my sexuality lmao
You, and the whole band are so gifted it blows my mind everytime I watch a performance. The dedication, passion, and creativity just hits me deep.
My favorite thing about Baard is that he's playing all this complex stuff but he's into it as if it was a simple 4/4 punk rock groove. It's not that he makes it look simple, he's just vibing massively with his drumkit.
Baard is my favorite of the younger generation of drummers, which has a ton of talent, but his feel, sound, groove, technique and busyness that still plays to the strength of the music being played just speaks to me in a major way. I still remember hearing that he had joined Leprous and being incredibly happy that one of my favorite young bands were joining forces with the prodigy from Borknagar. Just a force of nature.
Yes he's awesome David!
Baard is one of those drummers you know is advancing the instrument right before your eyes. He is just as important as Gavin Harrison as a modern drummer who exists in the modern rock/metal realm and moving the drums forward. Baards compositional approach is nearly incomparable. Just see Boneville, distant bells and even castaway angels. He gets full range out if the kit in almost every instance he touches it. Great to be alive to see this man changing the game
What's up andrew it's guys here? Hilarious!
BAHAHA
You changed what time you upload. It's not coffee anymore its beer!
@@GrahamMurphy525 GET IT!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums maybe we can have a beer and jam together in the future!
@@GrahamMurphy525 you weren't drinking both at the same time? am i doing mornings wrong? do i have a proble.... NAHHHHHHHHH
Yes, this man gives it all live! The whole band does, really. AMAZING live talent these guys. Just a pure joy to watch, every time!
Yup! Full noise and energy
Leprous - *Slave* live at Rockefeller Music Hall. Two drummers, old and new! At the same time! Live!
After listening to this song extensively, I’ve figured out that it works largely in groups of 35 beats, which is very interesting.
Baard is such a talented drummer. I have Never heard of him before, until i seen this video.. Killer play through!
I just love that song. Feel like he's improvising quite a bit vs. the actual record.
Oh right! I don't know the original track
He is kind of improvising, since it took the chance to be more showy than the record version.
Part of it, my guess at least, is that since is a playthrough he is putting the drums front and center, while in the record is more about the song and voice.
Yes. I think we've established this now. This is the best drummer in Norway. Thanks and have a nice day.
I am litterally amazed each time I see this guy playing
I like not only him but the singer.Good stuff.
Great to hear Brooke!
Btw, the time signature on the verses are 7, 6, 6, 5, 6, 5 loop it.
At least from what i remember from a reply from him on that video.
Please do the "baard kolstad rewind" playthrough as well! is amazing!
Can't wait!
Baard is fantastically talented. Always fun to watch.
Baard is SUCH a beast. Always happy to see him on this channel.
Well that was truly epic. You are absolutely right to point out his compositional mastery on this track. Thanks for introducing this drummer and band to me -- I loved them both.
LOVE his style. So fluid and clean.
Outstanding skills!
The control he has on this fill at 5:15 is incredible!
Can't believe that he was only 24, maybe even 23, when he wrote and recorded this drum part.
I really wish Baard will get the recognition he deserves among musicians (and not only dummers/drum aficionados) of all genres, the guy is truly a genius!
Great reaction Andrew! happy to see Baard Kolstad again on the channel!
There were a couple of technical issues during the video: when you hit the pause button there is some lagging on the video (like we can still the video playing but it is muted for a couple of seconds before it pauses), also at some point you talked and we could barely hear you over the song.
Nothing bad though, just wanted to tell you in case you have not noticed or see/hear the end result differently as we do :)
Cheers,
Yes! I had some issues on this one. Very weird
I tried to make a note for the start of the video. And then that wouldn't sync either.
Hopefully no gremlins in the system!
I've been patiently awaiting this gem for a while, glad you finally got around to it! Hope everything has calmed down a bit and returned to normal for you after that hectic period =)
We are getting there!
Still stuck in the weeds a bit TBH
You can tell by his face how much he lives playing drums. Super sick. Great, and unique, band.
Baaaaaaaaard🥳🥳🥳 This is song is a gem, and really REALLY hard for a drummer to play with all the timesignatures. Baard is like; hold my beer, and then brings the song to another level. He is that good.
Thank you for this, Andrew🙏🏻 All the best from 🇳🇴
(Btw; Lepeous has today announced their new album that will drop i august🥳)
I love this song!! The drum beat is fire!
I have seen Leprous live a few times now and I promise you, Baards drumkit gets a hell of a beating :-)
Looking forward to you doing Baard again! He is one of my all time faves. I'm glad you mentioned his composition. He is definitely on a whole other level to most other drummers compositionally. Neil Peart level. You need to watch him play Slaves live. You'll love it
Great reaction as always! I laughed, I cried, I... Well, I didn't cry. Always a pleasure watching your vids. Speaking of drum racks, I currently use a Gibraltar Stealth rack. Great for not having to mount toms to a cymbal stand. Also replaces your snare stand with a mount for it as well
i really enjoy Baard's playing. he is responsive to his bandmates, yet manages to play freely within the mood and ambiance of the song.
Bro loved my Pearl rack from the 90’s was epic drum times 🙏🏼
I still use my Pearl rack. It’s a life saver for gig setup
Right on Joe!
I really slept on this band, just found them last year. Ive been pleasantly surprised with most of what I’ve heard. I dig his style
Baard also drums for Rendezvous Point and DJ Kickslip if you need to find more videos of him playing.
Chile!!!! 🇨🇱
When it got to 11:20, I was really hoping you had your brown pants on 🤣 that last fast fill he pulls off is so damn clean it's insane
Baar is awesome. Nut also, can we just say what an amazing piece of music this is?
This was a full on drum solo WTF😯
I'd say more than Norway... My favorite European drummer
Nice!

U are right. Most of Leprous' music is very emotional and Baard only adds to it. They are one of my favorite bands and fantastic live.
he-heey, what is up andrew, it's guys here!
HAHA
I would use the word 'mélancolie' in french, to resume this 'chef d'œuvre', in french again. Because am french. Obviously. 😊❤
👌
9:17 Just casually adjusting the drum mic...
FIRST HERE!
WAHOO
lol
aw, i thought i was gonna be. which is not exactly a great life goal for someone in their 40's... but still, damn youuuu!
@@dibsyD You have to be real quick around here Dave HAHA
@@dibsyD Although, even sadder that the uploader is claiming 'first'... LOL
@@AndrewRooneyDrums maybe we should just both agree that none of this ever happened and hope people dont notice ;)
@@dibsyD GREAT idea
'Rewind' is a good one from leprous
Thanks John!
Hahaha I hope he replies to all your questions 😂😂
I gotta know his star sign
I would hate to do a whole set at his pace. I'm ready to fall off the stool just watching.
he is so animated and has the same visual seduction that steve gadd's playing has. You can't help but watch.
Pinkie off of stick. One of the hardest hitting drummers out there.
Yes Matthew!
Drama and tension 💪
You need to step up to the next level and see Leprous live. I seen them open for Between the Buried and Me. I had never heard of Leprous before that show. They were instantly one of my top 10 bands. Probably even top 5. When a band you have never heard of blows you away more than BTBAM!!!!! How is that possible?!
I'd love to see them live!
Great lineup. The Dear Hunter was on that too right? Leprous stole that show.
@@divided123 yes sir. I went with a friend who hadn't heard Leprous before either. We are both eager for another chance to see them. They stole the show indeed.
Baart is a great drummer
I was gonna like the video regardless but the little riff directly to Baard had me cracking up 🤣🤣
GET HIM ON YOUR PODCAST.
"Hello Andrew it's guys here." XD
HAHA
Bucketboy live at NAMM.
BAARD!!!
I really like this song. Amazing lyrics aside, this sort of frantic drumming mixes unexpectedly well with more somber, ambient sort of sound on the background
And yeah, Lerpous are very dramatic/theatrical, that's quality stuff. The way Baard plays, and I know jack sh*t about instruments, as if drums are part of his body - that's probably years of constant practice, experience.
I've heard he's improvising on the fly a lot, which to me just affirms that notion. The way he plays is organic, for the lack of a better word.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! Can you react to Todd Sucherman’s “13 for NP”? It is ridiculous and I think you would enjoy it
Baard reminds me of a young Gavin Harrison which I know he would take as a high compliment.
Baard is underrated in my opinion.
I got a request. I think you will like it . Its Matt Mcguire chainsmokers don't let me down. My apologies if you've already seen it . Just thought you would dig it . Be cool to see your take on it.
Check out Morgan Berthet and Bruno Valverde
Best drummer in Norway: Jon Eirik Bokn!
Board Kolstad. Baard is pronounced Board. Or Bored.
Incredible drummer.
This is a pretty old one- he did some really cool stuff recently. Check out Cast Away Angels, how restrained he is and what a great subtle part it is.

More Aric Improta please...
Hello there.
Hi!
Ahh general Kenobi!
Check out my BaardCam footage on my UA-cam page .
YESSSS!!!
Baard drums music.
If youre out of requests you have (!!!) to check cobus! The best drummer ive ever seen in my opinion
Oh he's great Tomer!
Been playing violin for years and always told the same thing. Keep your pinkie on the bow. Then I see that Itzhak Perlman plays with his right pinkie almost always curdled in. Granted I do not sound like that, and you should probably start with what they tell you as a base line when learning and then see what works best. And if you don't know who Perlman is, much sadness.
My Reaction/first time hearing Leprous 'THE SKY IS RED'
ua-cam.com/video/qW0mRbnBhmU/v-deo.html
He was 23 or 24 in this video.
Thank you!
His first name is pronounced more like you say "bored" in English. Not really fitting for a drummer like him, I know. :P
LOL!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums We also have the pretty common name "Odd". Which leads to introductions such as "Hi, I'm Bård, this is Odd"....
@@asbjrnfossmo1589 As long as the name isn't Odd Simen.
Can the term "spastic " be used as a complement? This appears to me as spastic yet competent. Such tension in the music, I needed a beer to get through this high tension display😳🍺
If you haven´t checked out Kirk Covington please do it :-)
Baard is pronounced "Bored" !!
Yes. Thanks Erik
Next time you request Baard for yourself check out The Price
Will check it out! Thanks
@@AndrewRooneyDrums and the live version of Slave from Rockafella, two drummers and Baard going for it in his sections.
This is easily my favorite playthrough from Baard.
The only downside is that i can no longer listen to the album version of this song because the drum on this version are simply superior 😂
M'dad hated racks so that's why I don't like/use them
Andrew it’s guys here ???? Interesting 🤔
HAHA
Bard could be 54 and still look 12.
Yeah; the camera thing is a bit ultra-douche IMHO; just bloody annoying. I think the cymbal term you are looking for is “Dry as a nuns...”.
He's decent drummer, but he's nowhere near Neil Peart when it comes to all around percussion,.
Maybe because that's not his style...
Sorry but comparing every drummer to Neil Peart does not make any sense.
OK boomer
@@scosstard3542 But so far, I can only recall comparing One drummer to Neil Peart. At the same time, I think your'e absolutely correct.
@@donnelson6694 you are right :)
Indeed you compared only one drummer to Neil Peart, the second part of my comment was not directed to you per se, it is more that I notice often that Neil Peart's name comes very often under a lot of drum related videos, giving me the impression that many people compare every drummer to him. I am sorry, if I made you feel that I "targeted" you specifically.
Have a great day!
ok...i know, i know....i'll come across as a "hater" here. but seriously much less talking and less gimmicks would get us down to what we really want to hear along with brief comments. You are trying a bit hard to be a personality rather than just a reactor. and for the english majors...i purposely didn't capitalize nor punctuate correctly. figured this crowd would understand better. :P
Nothing special about the band Just another good drummer but that is all.
I'm sorry, I love what what you do but that is some boomer editing 🤦♂️
Thank you.
That left trashy crash was missing a huge chunk. 😂
Hehe 🤣
