When you revealed your new look, I had JUST cut my curls into a bob and was living my best life. I always loved my hair shorter because the volume, girl ... THE VOLUME. 😭💖 But I had let my hair grow for about 1-2 years to see how long I could go before it drove me crazy. Let me tell you, ladies... Bobs are so amazing. Less product needed, easier dry time. Do it at least once!
I already had the short curly bob (see my avatar picture) and let me tell you, there is no way I am going back to long curly hair and hours of styling! Love it!
I’m scared not for short hair I had it all but the regret😂 My hair is super long in layers now . But so much weight and work I think I have to listen to you cause it’s the same as my inner voice 😂😂
The volume and the time taken to wash and style etc is so much less. I've always said long hair is beautiful, but not for me. Short hair is when I feel most myself ESPECIALLY with my curls!
I'd love to see a Week in the life of Mell! I did a big chop almost a month ago. 12 inches of dead weight in the Texas 112° heat, GONE. I feel like a new woman. I have pretty thick wavy hair and I'd like to see how you have switched things up to see if I should tweak my routine. Love your new length btw ❤️
You look amazing! I have bob anxiety-went to Navy basic training in 2000-they gave me a really ‘special’ haircut. It was so puffy (no products allowed) that my hat wouldn’t fit. So then I got yelled at for that until they just decided to give me corn rows. Thankfully, the Navy has changed hair policies since then to accommodate many hair lengths, styles, and textures.
Girl I am just amazed by how well this hair cut fits your face! I'm obsessed. You were always pretty but this is a whole new level! Did you change your makeup pallet too?
Absolutely love this cut on you! Inspired me to go get a cut like this, only my face shape is sharper and my curls are tighter (coils) but now you have me going through your videos to see how I can achieve the bigger curls - it is giving LIFE!! Thanks for putting out such great content - Always!
So I didn't cut my hair into a bob, but I followed the soft/even number rule for my hair length to trim my layers and now they sit right!! It turned out great cause when I tied my hair into a forward ponytail for the trim, the tie was synched at the center of my hairline so measuring my face earlier like you mentioned made it easier to cut the extra length off. Thanks again for all the advice Mell - I feel like a happy husky who just got a shave (I only trimmed 4 inches off my length, but still)!
Yessss! I’m going to get a haircut tomorrow and I have been searching for a video like this all week. And I couldn’t quite decide. But now my favorite hair specialist uploads this video. How lucky. Thank you 😃
The inch difference is so real! My hair goes from great length to awkward length every other month! So validating overall! I have fine curls and always found the more blunt bobs to be a better look on me even though everyone emphasizes the importance of layers. Not for me!
Same. Been trying to grow my hair out but every month i end up cutting off like that one inch i just got back because my hair feels kinda weird. I don't have curly hair it's just wavy and also fine. Used to have a lot more hair but lost half of it due to covid. My previous hairdresser used to layer my hair like crazy. Ends were literally see through so i had to cut more hair off after i came back home to thicken my ends at least a little lol. I have a lot of hair on top but ends are thinner. Right now i am growing my layers out and just thinning it a little on top so i won't have a flat thick helmet. It's so frustrating to grow layers out. They are good for curl definition but i just hate the look of my ends being thin because of that.
A long time ago when I was a teenager, my mom took me to Vidal Sassoon and the hairstylist used a ruler and it was the best haircut I ever had. Thank you for explaining what she did! I thought this haircut was off by an inch!
I love your video's!!!!!!! I am 58 years old and I needed all this education when I was given my first blow dryer at age 12! Lord have mercy I could have saved myself a lot of tears!
I just love Mell! She makes me smile, giggle and then just look around at my life in a new, happy way. If there was a movie with Mell in it, I'm watching it!
I have curly hair and haven't gotten a cut for over 10 years because I am afraid that I will get a bad haircut. Many stylists know how to cut straight hair but not curly hair. I love your videos y suggestions. Let's see when I get inspired and get to trust someone. Keep doing these good and funny videos.
I had an undercut because my hair is thiiiiiiic girl. But decided to grow it out. I couldn't deal with the length differences so I chopped it to a bob myself. I have 2a to 3c hair. Omg in love. My sons nurse at his school said I look like snow white! I found my costume this year!
Yes! Do a week in the life of Mel! I've been wanting to get a Bob for a while now and this just cinched it for me. Making my hair appointment soon! Love your locks Mel! Looks fabulous as always!
I'm trying so hard to keep the length to the shoulders on my 4A type hair but everytime I watch your new, fresh hair I'm just tempted to get a hair cut!!!!
I have wavy hair that tends to expand as the day goes on. Also have round face and short neck so when I would get one of those cute little chin length bobs, I'd always end up looking like a pumpkin. I keep it a few inches longer now and layered to break up that circular effect.
Absolutely stunning, so true. Week of your hair care? Can't wait to see. Loved this video. It explained so much about my past cuts likes and not so much. Future looks brighter, thank you
I have been so exhausted by my hair upkeep requirements I decided to start looking for inspiration hairstyle photos to bring to my stylist. Your video has helped in my process. Thx Mel!🎉
Your haircut is amazing. And what a coincidence that at the same time you chopped off your hair I was doing the same to mine. A Bob has always been one of my favorite hair styles.
I wish hair could be reeled in shorter then just pulled back out long!! Id do the one length bob !! Especially since my hair is so damaged already and eventually my bangs have to catch up to the rest!
OMG !!! This has Been one of your best ever !!! If that was ever possible !!! Instructive, funny and soooo knowledgeable!!! Wow !! I’ve been following you since you started !!! And I really shouldn’t since I’m old and gray but I have nieces and always share these with them. Keep it going !!! Congratulations!!!
Great video. I have been wanting to go shorter for some time now, but too afraid. I know this wasn’t mentioned but do you think hairstyles also depend on is a person is thin or heavy? Thanks
Great video! My hair appointment is tomorrow. When she asks how short I want to go I’m going to whip out my tape measure and tell her an even number.😂 she’s going to think I’m crazy!
Please grace us with a week in your life with a bob!!! Video was SO educational! Unfortunately I fell im the coarse/dense category. I dont think id look good with a short bob but im so lovin ur bob! Its EVERYTHING!!! 😀🥰
OM yes! ! I recently cut my hair from nipple length to just above shoulder length. I haven't taken it out of a pony tail/ undo since. I HATE this length on me. Thank the hair gods gave me quick growing hair.
I'm so glad you talked about maybe needing a trim about 2 months in. My hair grows fast but my stylist says curly hair should only be cut 2x a year! I begged and she would see me every 3 months, but she wasn't happy about it.
I only go twice per year. That is to allow for length. Trying to grow out my hair down to my waist again and get rid of old bleached/coloured ends. Besides that it’s every three to four months for maintenance.
Mel, this video was SOOOOO helpful! Explained a lot for why my hair has seemed “off” even when I have the curl perfect. Do you think this also applies to bangs? The Evan of odd number? Just wondering. Love you and sent this to a friend.❤️💖♥️
Wish I watched this before I got a bob 😭 I have super dense, coarse hair and, even though it was cut dry, it seems like the length and shape is still off -- definitely needed to keep it longer. My hair gets so weighed down when it's long that I didn't expect it to suddenly defy gravity after being cut short 😅
Please do a week in my life video! I also really would love to learn about how to use chelating vs. clarifying shampoo and how pre-pooing works in a wash where you use a clarifying shampoo in it
Wow this cut and make up --you have never looked more absolutely stunning!!! Ive been a fan for many years and seen all your looks--which all look great btw--you were always killing it--but this one blows all the other/ out of the park/is an entirely new ball game/new game/new level unlocked her--its soooooo breathtakingly stunning and flattering on you--maybe bc you mastered the golden ratio thing -seriously is so amazingly beautiful on your face and impressive--makes me really trust what youre saying here bc youre totally living proof and a walking example of --that je ne sais que or whatevrr its called when you dont know why but someone just has this powerfully attractive beauty ... youre always beautiful --this is like movie star red carpet curated look on you ! I love it lol and am super happy for you that youre rocking your "it girl" look! Bet youre getting constantly complimented on it
6:50 Mell, I you had my 👍🏽 way before this moment. Your energy, positivity, and personality alone deserve a thumbs up with every video! Anyways, I have always preferred the bob cut because I felt it was perfect for my facial features even when I was a teenager (I also miss my bangs) -- it was my hair that would never agree with me after age 18, I think... 😢
I’m 53. Have always had long curly hair. I was going through a lot of crap in life and decided to chop it off. I actually love it. But it’s been a lot of learning how to deal with it. So any info you can give would be helpful. I miss putting it up. That is the only thing I miss. So any hairstyles you could share for short curlies would. E great. Thank you
I absolutely LOVE this new cut on you! Thanks for all the tips! I just found about a few months ago my hair is not straight, but wavy. With a few loose curls mixed in. It’s also fine and medium/low density. I’m researching curly hair specialists in my area. If I’m going to wear it curly, should my hair be cut wet or dry? And are there differences in how you would cut wavy vs curly/coily? I want to be sure I ask for the right things 🤪
Just got a bob and it was not done well 😭 Now searching for how to fix it. There's so much info here, thank you. I assume the even/odd number only applies to the hair that frames the face? I asked for (and have previously had when I straightened my hair) an A-line bob
I really wanna do it. But I was admittedly scared of it the bonnett will still hold it for at least 5 days without the weight. I would love to see a night routine and know if the spacing between wash days has gotten shorter or not!
Mel, I always have a hard time knowing how the shape in the back should be-more rounded versus straight across like how hours is in this video. It changes the look from the front when the hair is above the shoulders like mine is now. Right now, mine is similar to how you just cut your hair.
I’m a busy mom of 3 (9, 7, and a newborn) so I NEED to be able to pul my hair out of my face. My current cut has grown out to just touching shoulders right now and I think it looks great with my 2c waves. I will likely continue to let it grow a bit and will try not to cut it too short going forward.
I decided to stop dying my hair, so it got long enough that I couldn't take it anymore and just cut it into short short cut. As I've been growing my hair out, I've noticed I go back and forth on liking my hair. I now know why. What can somebody do while growing to style past the wrong length? Or do you just have to live with it?
I just really want to thank you for your extra special contact there’s so many things about it that makes an amazing girly hairstylist here with a few sisters so I’m Vibing all of your contact

Sorry, I am struggling to believe that the whole golden ratio thing in the end derives in... inches. I am European and we don't use inches. Are we then excluded from the golden ratio, or does it work in cm too? The whole even/odd thing is actually relative. Length can be one or the other depending on how you measure it 🤷🏻
I tried it once, and did not love it on me, but liked the ease of it. I have a square jaw. Went from past the waist to very short, and it was such a shock. I enjoyed using a lot less product and dry time though! Lol!
Love your new look! I'm so happy that you made a video about the bob for a rounded face. I have been experimenting with doing this with my hair since it's curly but thinner on top. With a rounded face I was hoping it would better look for me.
Hello girls! I just found you and I’m very happy. I’m still trying to figure it out if my hair is wavy or curly, but I’ll trying to understand and learn about how to style my hair. I have been thinking about getting my hair short, like in a Bob like yours. Do you think that you can teach us how to cut that ourselves or is that something that you need to go somewhere to have it done?
I never seem to get a good haircut in a salon (granted I go to the cheap ones), I always walk out unhappy, and some stylists would even complain that my hair was "too fine/thin/dry for them to work with," so I just started cutting my hair myself. If I screw up, I chop it off. I screwed it up last time, and went from waist-length hair to shoulder-length, but it was a nice change and I got rid of a lot of dead length. My hair texture has changed since I started learning about taking better care of it; the healthier it got, the less curly it became! I went from about a 3c, to 2a - 2c. I gave up trying CGM because honestly, I'm too busy: I'm a SAHM to three autistic kids, and I can't spend hours washing and styling my hair. I'm literally a wash-and-go mom, shampoo, conditioner, and then let air dry. That's my "routine" lol.
Need to see “A Week in the Life of Mell’s Bob.” Yes, please.

I can't believe how perfect that hair cut looks on you. It looks so feminine, old Hollywood glamour. It really, really suits you. 😍
Very apt description! I was trying to put my finger on it. Definitely bob goals!

I don’t have Mel’s curls but same! I just cut my hair super short and saw Mel did the same. It’s much easier and I have no plans to go back.

Your hair is absolutely stunning Mel !!!!!
I recently got a curly mullet for my 2c-3A curls and love it. Keep rocking the short hair girl. You look great. I feel super liberated lol
Thank you for your hair stylists perspective. Never knew there were so many variables to consider before considering a bob.

Super flattering cut and color 🎉 I’m so envious
I'm so glad you talked about maybe needing a trim about 2 months in. My hair grows fast but my stylist says curly hair should only be cut 2x a year! I begged and she would see me every 3 months, but she wasn't happy about it.
Fine hair needs to be cut lime every 6-8 weeks and coarse hair maybe 3-4 months. Every 6 months is way too much to wait for a curly trim!
I only go twice per year. That is to allow for length. Trying to grow out my hair down to my waist again and get rid of old bleached/coloured ends.
Besides that it’s every three to four months for maintenance.
I am obsessed with my curls, but you make me ❤️ them even more.
Absolutely love this haircut on you. Looks gorgeous! 🫶🏼
My husband looking at me crazy as I take my measuring tape out to measure my length of hair! 🤣

Informative as always but the flower situation at the end cracked me up - made my day! Lol

You look amazing with short hair!!!😊
Along with the whole video, I honestly love the clips at the end. The "real Mel" clips 😀The curse words & honesty are everything for me lol!!!
I love this haircut on you. My hair is a shorter Bob as well. I’d like to see A Week in Your life to see how to refresh etc
Mel, I always have a hard time knowing how the shape in the back should be-more rounded versus straight across like how hours is in this video. It changes the look from the front when the hair is above the shoulders like mine is now. Right now, mine is similar to how you just cut your hair.

It's all great info BUT how do you communicate this to the hairstylist? I cannot tell them how to do their job so how do I say it nicely?
I’m getting a haircut this Saturday and I needed this video!! Also need a week in the life bob refresh video!! 🥹
The bob suits you so well!!!! I'm obsessed
I tried it once, and did not love it on me, but liked the ease of it. I have a square jaw. Went from past the waist to very short, and it was such a shock. I enjoyed using a lot less product and dry time though! Lol!
Your content is always so appreciated! Been wanting a change/big chop maybe even some color change! 🎉
Love your new look! I'm so happy that you made a video about the bob for a rounded face. I have been experimenting with doing this with my hair since it's curly but thinner on top. With a rounded face I was hoping it would better look for me.
Your hair looks marvelous
Perfect timing as I have a haircut tomorrow!!!
That curly bob iis adorable. Makes me wish I had curly hair!
That's my "routine" lol.
i really like your new cut, you look so good and lively
