I used this tutorial to cut my curly hair into a bob. It came out fantastic thank you. Hair dressers never listen to me when I ask them not to cut my hair like it’s straight and it ends up way shorter than I want with awful thinned out layers and the curly hair specialists charge a fortune. Thank you. Thank you
Thank you so much! I'm an old lady with grey hair and big thick curls, so I wasn't sure a) I could do what you did; b) if it would work with my hair type; and c) if I was too old to pull this off. BUT- I did it! (Took about 7 inches off.) Everyone comments on how cute my cut is, how fresh it looks, and how much younger it makes me. I wish I could post my before/after shots because it's pretty great. Thank you so much for the clear instructions and for giving me the guts to trim the hedges!
Excellent video - both content and editing! I've been cutting my own hair due to your tutorials. Recently I had a cut in a curly salon and basically got a $260 moisture treatment and trim, not a single new layer or piece of advise. No need to go again when Mell and crew are so helpful and generous. Thank you!
Love the bob on you! Your curls are gorgeous. I have been using your styling tips and my shoulder length curls are looking great and lasting longer. Don’t have the guts to cut my own hair but thankfully my sister is a hairstylist so I don’t have to. Thanks for your tips and being you. You are so much fun to watch!
@@ManesByMell, I’m trying to learn how to cut my hair myself. I like blunt layers, meaning that I want layers but want the ends of the hairs to be blunt and not cut into. Will the pigtail cut yield that result? I think I want a 90 degree cut, but I want the perimeter slightly rounded and full. How would I do that with pigtails? My hair is the same length as yours here. Thanks!
Looks gorgeous! You make it look so easy to cut your own hair! But after some disastrous self haircuts back in the 80's.. I finally learned to leave it to the pros. I did have my hair cut into a bob 3 weeks ago, I used to wear it like that all the time! Forgot how easy it is to style and so glad I did it! Thank you for the inspiration!
Just did this cut ✂️ ❤🥰 and I must say I am feeling fabulous!!! Thank you so much Mel. I'm a curly girl, had long hair like your seester Amanda and I just chopped it all off 😊🔥
So so good. You make it look so easy but I know better than that. Would you consider featuring someone with curly gray hair. Texture is different now that I’m gray and could definitely use some tips. Thanks for all you do.
I tried this on my extremely EXTREMELY overgrown bob and it turned out wonderful! Genuinely can't believe I did that, and it was my first time cutting my hair apart from occasional trimming. Thank you so much for this!
I'm a guy who's growing my hair out for the first time (and learning I have curls!); I haven't had a haircut in a while so my hair shape is all... chaotic and I'm just finally barely learning enough on how to care for my curls, but hearing your "low styling" prep for a haircut helps me keep in mind what I can do for a low-maintenance hair care routine! Also I may never cut a bob on myself but i watched the whole video lmao. also my hair is way finer and thinner (30 yo white man haha) but every new piece of info helps me care for my hair better!
I really loved seeing your hair without styling products and styling. It really shows the difference it makes! Absolutely gorgeous natural fluffy and gorgeous defined and product!
Your hair looks amazing and after watching this video this morning. I followed your steps and cut my own bob! I think it looks fab and now onto growing healthy curls!! Thank you for all you do ❤
11 months later and this video! is helping me today!! i have had my curls cut properly once in my life and this bob cut was it! so excited to try myself! i stated cutting my own hair after several nightmare experiences that left me in tears. not sure why people seem to think that cutting curly hair means short when you want it lay down as we can see here its the opposite! lol blessings : ) thank you

I just think or hope it will turn out as gorgeous as your! Thanks for always be a bright, bubbly, intelligent women that inspires me to key trying ❤
I never knew I had wavy curly hair until a year ago. I’ve always had a bob haircut but blew my hair straight. I love styling my hair. It’s always been a time in my day where I work on my head both physically and mentally. Am I the only one? Mel, you’ve inspired me to embrace the curls I’ve discovered and just go with it. As a free spirited 58 year old woman I feel like my curls illuminate the essence of who I truly am. I’ve had not only friends but my own therapist just smile and say the curls match my personality. So, for any woman around my age who feels inspired to not fit in the frumpy box, do it! Peace baby! ✌🏻💗🥰
45 here, and I wholeheartedly concur! Although, I'm probably considered "frumpy" with my no make up, in my usual yoga leggings and t shirts while I chase after my 5 & 9 yo boys... while parenting on my own, I've got nobody to impress except myself and kiddos! (I have vascular and nerve issues in my legs anyway, so the compression really helps with aches and pains.... just so hot during the summer.) And I actually do practice yoga and yoga nidra, so the mobility helps with that too. Much love to you, fellow free spirited curly gal!❤
That “tilt the head back” comment was a game changer!💡 The whole video was actually!! And it was funny & you’re absolutely gorgeous so that was also nice 😆. Thanks for making this video!👌🏽
Although you didn’t inspire me to cut, I did have to grow out a pixie that was cut after bleach damage. It’s about the length that you cut your hair to in this video, and you really help me feel pretty in it, because you look so beautiful 😊 so thank you for helping me feel comfortable in my hair Mell!
I am wearing my natural curls for 7 months now but always was wearing them in a bun because I was so selfconscious. Thanks to your Video I was able to identify what I didn’t like with my hairstyle (middle part with a bob and sagging in the back) and was able to fix it. Since doing that I wear my hair open every day - and it really changed my style (if not my life 😊). I am now very scissor happy and chisel away at my hair every few weeks 😅. But I like my bob and also it’s not too bad to get that heat damage out. Thanks so much! Love your content ❤
Congrats Mell and Amanda and now Anthony. 👏Mell you always impress. I could not bend to cut like you did. Long hair is one thing but a bob. Wow. I know your a pro but wanted to give you 👏 for that. Been watching your channel for years. Love the energy and positivity you bring. Cheer to 800k 🥂and to many more. Great cameo at the end by Anthony. Your very lucky to siblings that not only can you work with but to laugh with. Not everyone is that fortunate. Congrats again and see you next week.
Making this a family gig is another way you have set your brand apart from the rest! Keep going, you are doing great as a young business woman! ❤. Thanks to the bro for putting his touch in this one.
I have been following you since you started youtube and you are my GO-ToO girl for my hair care", hair cuts, etc. I did a big chop shortly after yours but ended up with a bell shape, and it was so short that i was scared to cut any more. I just tried this technique, and it absolutely fixed it without removing length. Just, what I needed! Thanks mell. You slayed... AGAIN!
I needed this exact video, thank you! My daughter gave me the same chop the other day. So excited to add shape. It's also making you look so much like Jennifer Grey as Baby. ❤️
I just adore you! Not only are you so good at what you do and the tips you give, but your humor and personality are priceless! Not to mention you are beautiful Xx
This is amazing! I have recently decided to cut my own hair from now on after a number of bad haircuts at salons. The last one I got in salon was a big chop and it was not the style that I had asked for. It literally looked nothing like the reference picture and I was too embarrassed to go back and tell them I didn't like it, so I've been trimming it myself. I've spent the last few months trying to grow it out a bit, and I think it's finally at the length I can create a bob like yours. I had just been at a loss for how to create the stacked shape in the back and make it balanced on the sides without being too bulky. I know I'm a little late to the game here since this video was posted 6 months ago, but this video is EXACTLY what I've been needing and I can't wait to give it a try!
Ive had a curly rounded bob that Ive cut myself for the past year but I went to the hair salon when I wanted to add in stacked layers in the back. I just couldnt figure out how to do it on my own! She hacked off all my hair and gave me a very 90s stacked hair cut. I knew it had all gone south when she started shaving my neck!! I wish I had this video before I went for the cut but I will definitely be using this to go back to cutting my own once it grows out a bit! It looks amazing on you!
LMAOOOOO NOT ANTHONY WITH THE DISCLAIMER AT THE END. I am proud of you sir!!! The man learned how to edit within a week to get this up in time 😅 round of applause!!!

Owner of a curly bob here! I'm 2,000 miles away from my hair stylist and so, so close trying out your amazing tips. You're an outstanding educator and so much fun to watch.
Looks so amazing! I liked having my hair shorter, but I'm lazy so I didn't keep up with the maintenance. My favorite recent hairstyle you did was Amanda's wedding hair ❤️ I would like to see more of one and done hair products. I'm 8.5 months pregnant so I need easy! Love you guys. Congrats on your milestone!! ❤
Mell I know I’m super late to the party but I just tried this tutorial step by step and let me tell you!!! My hair has never looked like this before and I absolutely love it! When I initially cut my hair short I regretted it because I wasn’t sure if it fit my face and my hair felt so heavy like a helmet. But after following this tutorial I am back in love with the bob and will probably never go back!😁😁thank you so much!💖
I absolutely LOVE THIS! & I'm SO excited that you posted this. I got my mine cut literally 2 days after you posted the reveal of yours, and I'm so loving it! But now it's grown out so fast, and I'm getting triangle. It's giving Dora, and I don't love it as much, so hopefully, I can recreate this 🤞🏾😬
This was really helpful! I chopped my 3b/c hair to barely inches several months ago. Looking at your 'mell' , I see my future 'bell'. I just can't do it myself. No spatial skills. I see a long talk with my stylist in my future! THANK YOU for keepin' it real. You're stunning and teaching me so much about proper products!
Mel, thank you for the DIY graduated bob hair cut video. I am excited to try it out on my hair. I have to let it grow out a little before taking the plunge. My hair is thinning, so this cut will be great for me. I have been applying some of your DIY hair cut videos to my own hair and love the outcomes. I greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos, and for sharing your professional tips. Anthony did a great job.
Mell, thank you so much for posting videos like this! I live in a small town where there stylists don’t really know what to do with my hair and your videos always gives me courage to cut it myself and to try new things. Actually went a little bit scissor happy and cut more that what I was planning, but I’m still in love with my new bob 🩷🩷✨ Love your videos and your vibe
You're so GORGEOUS Mel!! I just did your pigtail haircut yesterday since my hair grew into the dreaded pyramid shape😫!! But I so want to cut my hair like this again especially, before the new year to start fresh!!❤
First of all, you are completely adorable! The way you present yourself and your obvious talent as a stylist is so engaging - and really just wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing.
I am a hairdresser that cuts my own hair in the same shape and manner as you, But I don’t have your wonderful curls. I’m so envious because my head is also kind of flat.
Thank you so much Mel for all your videos so helpfull, I did it! I cut my own hair and this video is very need it because soon I have to get the courage to do it again, thank you from the bottom of my ❤for all the time you put into your work. By the way I got many complements on my hair and I love it also! I love yourmnew bob you look Beautiful and happy, besaré and enjoy the Holidays! Blessings 🎅🤶🧑🎄❤❤❤And the reason I had to cut my own hair is because my husband was not well and I did not want to spend time out there and leave him alone at home.
This is amazing! I wish I had the confidence, coordination, and overall observation skills to do this, but the way you break it down and explain it so well, makes me consider it! My daughter is going to hair school now, so once she has some cutting experience, I think we can get a great cut together :-) Looks gorgeous!! ❤❤❤
Omg! I just busted out laughing when you turned the clipper on and you said, “In case the sound confused you….” 😂😂😂 I apparently know what you were comparing the sound to 😉
Thank you for this video, I cut my hair at home because where I live it's very hard to find a hairdresser who knows how to cut curly hair. I have the same type of curls as you and I learned to cut it trough youtube videos, now my hair looks better than ever!
This cut is beautiful on you and loved the video!! Question: can the back stack be done on slightly longer curls that are at the end of the neck beginning of the shoulders? I find my layers in the back are like a down slope and feel it needs a more lifted or rounded shape.
How timely! You make it look easy though. 🤣 I hope you could maybe address those of us who do not like bangs--I also have a side part. I am one of the ones inspired by your tres chic bob cut this year and went ahead and got my long hair chopped off. Unfortunately it wasn't the cut I asked for and now have to grow out some crazy layers but plan on taking care of future trims myself. I so appreciate this video! Thank you thank you thank you!
I am in love with this channel, you, your hair, brother and seester! It makes my heart happy to see how you guys interact ❤ reminds me of my family dynamic. Love the HAIR, YOU AND ALL THE CONTENT OF THIS CHANNEL. Keep up the FABULOUS WORK! 😊
Hi! You’re gorgeous! I’m new here. I loved this video and I was wondering if this haircut could still work for someone with less curly hair? My hair is right wave to loose curl. Thank you! Congrats on 800k 🎉
I love it! I am taking your video to my hairdresser! I want a curly Bob. My curls are not as tight as yours, but I think the shape will work. Thanks, Mel!
So glad I found this. I've been cutting my hair myself for over a decade. There are so many people that do not know how to handle curly hair and cut it exactly like it is stick straight. I was aggravated with all the videos on social media where the get it completely wet and cut it. Idiots, thanks you for the tips.
Let be honest ... you look amazing with no products and volume... the look before going to shower was so BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS Pefection on you!!!! I am jealous ❤❤❤
I'm loving your bob phase! I've always learned a lot from you, but now I'm getting so many tips with your shorter hair on how to manage, cut and style my own short hair! Love this new phase for you and me, lol ❤
You inspired me to cut my short fine curly hair into a Bob - so I bought some shears and it took me two tries but it looks adorable! Thanks for the tips!!
Love this! Love the vids! Love you! I recently decided to chop off a good chunk of my hair (well, didn’t decide so much as just pulled out the scissors and started cutting). It was shorter and cuter than my previous look, but I wasn’t in love with it. I used to just pile all my hair up and tie it in a bun and be on my way, but I wanted something that would show off my curls with less work for work. Then I found your videos and used a few to sharpen up the look. I am definitely going to try this out to give the current cut some much needed volume in the back. Thanks Mell! ❤
After watching your bob reveal video a few weeks ago, I was inspired and made the chop for myself and I couldn't be happier! I'm so glad you posted this video so I have tips for maintaining my beautiful new bob.
I’ve watched this video twice now and both times have cut my hair straight after 😂 Getting a little gamer every time. Mell you are awesome. Sending love and a huge thank you from Western Australia ❤
I do cut my curls wet and trim as it’s drying. I will admit mine’s not as tight as yours, and well at 70 years old it’s really stupid tiring to hold one’s arms up, elbows to shoulder height for well even seconds at a time. ha, ha, ugh!
Please please pleeeease do a pop up salon in the UK. I have fine thin curly hair and I NEED a haircut like for the volume but haven't found anyone that truly specialises in curly hair
Hi Seesters, thank you for teaching me how to embrace my curls! I was wondering if you can do a video similar to this one, but about shorter pixie styles. Talking about which face shapes look good, and DIY cut and maintaining at home. I would like some kind of messy top cut/tousled curls undercut, shaved on the back and sides but leaving a good amount of curls on top falling onto my forehead a little bit. More of an androgynous look. I’m really nervous about chopping off all my hair though so this would help me a lot. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for the tips. My hair is a similar length to yours and I cut it myself as I have so so many disasters with going to salon's to get my hair cut. I used to have pretty long hair but I coloured it way too much and it was dmaaged to the point where my curls were just awful, so I started cutting out the colour damaged sections, and I now I have a grey bob with just the tips still having a little colour left on them, which I know will eventually grow out. Vut I figured I would rather have soft bouncy grey curls than a colour damaged mess.
I'd love to see a pros and cons of different hair lengths as I am considering a short look after having long hair my entire life. I am really curious about maintenance, exercising and frequency of cuts.
This will be my first winter as a curly girl in a very long time. I would love to see a tutorial for what hats, scarfs, scrunchies, styles you use when heading out to caught unawares by wind, rain or snow?
Okay but that look when your hair was brushed out LOOKED AMAZING. That volume made you look so glamorous!
I agree! I loved it!

Hi Jennifer ahhh thank you so much for being here and watching, it’s a pleasure to share these moments and education with you❤️
Owner of a curly bob here! I'm 2,000 miles away from my hair stylist and so, so close trying out your amazing tips. You're an outstanding educator and so much fun to watch.
I love it!! I have curly 3c hair and yes, recently inspired to cut off several inches. Loving it! ❤
It's giving Dora, and I don't love it as much, so hopefully, I can recreate this 🤞🏾😬
a new HAIRa.....Mel is the QUEEN of the understated PUN!!!!
Lo que yo estaba esperando!!!!! 🫰🏼✨💖🌈💌 Gracias Mel! Tus consejos me han cambiado la vida. 😊
Mell, thank you so much for posting videos like this!
I live in a small town where there stylists don’t really know what to do with my hair and your videos always gives me courage to cut it myself and to try new things.
Actually went a little bit scissor happy and cut more that what I was planning, but I’m still in love with my new bob 🩷🩷✨
Love your videos and your vibe
Thank you for this update on your cut. It saved me from living with a very bad haircut that turned into an unwanted bob.
From one flat head to another, thankyou for the stacking tips. I rushed to the mirror to cut, my hair is still wet but I know it's just what I needed.
You're so GORGEOUS Mel!! I just did your pigtail haircut yesterday since my hair grew into the dreaded pyramid shape😫!! But I so want to cut my hair like this again especially, before the new year to start fresh!!❤
Cut my hair for the second time with your video and for the second time I had a blast AND my haircut feels amazing once again. Thank you!
First of all, you are completely adorable! The way you present yourself and your obvious talent as a stylist is so engaging - and really just wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing.
I absolutely LOVE this cut on you. Thank you for helping us re-create it at home. If I cut it, Im going to need this video on repeat lol ❤
Girl, that cut was made for you! Absolutely gorgeous
My daughter is going to hair school now, so once she has some cutting experience, I think we can get a great cut together :-)
Looks gorgeous!! ❤❤❤
Gorgeous!! I love all of your haircutting videos, they are so soothing to watch :)
Omg! I just busted out laughing when you turned the clipper on and you said, “In case the sound confused you….” 😂😂😂 I apparently know what you were comparing the sound to 😉
I SO NEED this hair cut in my life!!! Thank you once again Mel for the clear instructions!!! You look FABULOUS!!!
I just did this tonight and it came out so WELL!! Thank you! ❤❤
I've been so excited for this video! Hopefully no more bad haircuts for me because this is almost the exact shape that I prefer.
Thank you for this video, I cut my hair at home because where I live it's very hard to find a hairdresser who knows how to cut curly hair. I have the same type of curls as you and I learned to cut it trough youtube videos, now my hair looks better than ever!
Mel!!!!I NEED YOUUUUUU!!!EVERYTHING YOU TEACH about CURLY HAIR sits with My Soul❤ Gorgeous, love all the Volume.
This cut is beautiful on you and loved the video!! Question: can the back stack be done on slightly longer curls that are at the end of the neck beginning of the shoulders? I find my layers in the back are like a down slope and feel it needs a more lifted or rounded shape.
Was not expecting that at the end! He did a great job! And so did you. So adorable that haircut suits you so well mell🥰
I love your hair, it's gorgeous. I don't know if I cut my hair myself, maybe a trim 😊, you give people a lot of confidence, thank you Mel ❤️
Omg your tips on graduation are exactly what I needed! I’m gonna try this tonight! & Super funny Anthony! 😂 Thank you so much!
So so beautiful. I cut my own bob too, it’s curly but yours is more curly and so gorgeous!! Thank you!!♥️
Let be honest ... you look amazing with no products and volume... the look before going to shower was so BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS Pefection on you!!!!
You look amazing!! I love the bob cut on you so much! Congratulations on 800k!!🎉
Great video Mell! Glad to have a short curly hair tutorial. Such a cute cut!
LOVE it as much as you do!!!! It looks so professional and absoulty adorable on you!!!
You look gorgeous! Now I can't wait to try a trim!
You are an inspiration!!! 🎉❤ LOVE your curls!!!👌🏻✂️👏🏻💯😍
Congrats on 800k subbies!! And your hair turned out beautiful 😍
woooooow it have been a while i watched your videos. your short hair cut is amazing
I'd love to see a pros and cons of different hair lengths as I am considering a short look after having long hair my entire life. I am really curious about maintenance, exercising and frequency of cuts.
Wow you are definitely a PRO!!!! Love your new haircut. And your brother did a good job editing. Hope Amanda is having a great time in Africa!!! 🎉
This will be my first winter as a curly girl in a very long time. I would love to see a tutorial for what hats, scarfs, scrunchies, styles you use when heading out to caught unawares by wind, rain or snow?
Turned out awesome! I got laid off earlier this year, so not professional 💇♀️ for me. This is really helpful. Good job Bro on the editing!
