    This is a public thank-you to Chris and the entire THENX team: I turn 50 this year. On my last birthday I decided to get my ass back in tip-tip shape. I've always kept in decent shape but, admittedly, let myself go the last couple of years sitting behind a desk. My goal for the year last August: re-establish the workout habit, get back to 10% body fat, and be able to do muscle-ups. I knew to get there it would require a lot of basic calisthenics work. At the time I could only do about 5 pull-ups and 15 push-ups per set. I had strong memory of doing more but I had gotten weak. This week, after watching many of your videos here and working on your routines and... after 10 months of training almost daily... I can finally do a muscle-up. I can't do a whole lot, but I can do them. Body fat around 11%. Workout habit established. Thanks, Chris, for the inspiration!

      Looked at a handful of videos on how to do a muscle up and not a single ONE of them helped me and then I came across this one. I always knew I could do a muscle up, but something was wrong with my technique and I couldn't figure it out. Watched this video and I instantly knew this was the key. Specifically at 2:11 with the "Magic Button" spot. Watched this video all the way to the end, geared up, and followed the new technique I learned and completed a muscle up on the first try. Thanks guys, permanent subscriber here now.

      Me too. How is your muscle up now, after 1 year? And how is your progress in calisthenics overall?

    • @guam58
      @guam58 7 років тому

      Bejenaru Victor and Kay Low the timing occurs when you are able to go into the arch position (magic button). Your entire body needs to be on the arch side of the movement once you feel yoir chest are foward pull hard with a hard kip of the hips. Kay Low your problem maybe on the arches position on tge bar. Check to see if when you fail your muscle up your arch position is not under the bar.

    • @yo-hanlee1872

    Chris, this is a superb tutorial! I find that youtube trainers often teach what to do, but not why you're doing it. Elucidating the reasons and principles behind a desired action, as well as technique, is paramount.This gives the knowledge to correct problems when they occur, allowing for continued progress rather than frustration and failure. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication, I'm certain you are helping a great many people, which is just about the best thing anyone can do in life. Cheers from the UK!

BOOM, MUSCLE UP! Couldn't be happier! After weeks of practicing, I was able to do my first muscle-up this week. It was really bad technique but I was so happy about it! I had it on camera too (had a bunch of failed ones with it) and I showed it to my friend because I was so excited. He then sent me to this channel and as soon as I watched it, I got straight back on the bar and incorporated what you showed. This was 2 days ago. Yesterday I was able to hit 4 muscle-ups in a row and today I did 3 sets of 3 muscle-ups in a row.
    The first 2 techniques (the swinging and L-sit) really helped me so much! This morning I tried to do muscle-ups but couldn't, but then I went back to practicing the L-sits and swinging and was able to get that 3 X 3 I mentioned before. Thanks heaps man!

    I did my first clean muscle up today and I took me 3 weeks to learn it. I definitely had the strength then already, but what helped me was to find the right technique and get the reps in. I could not do ist in five minutes, so I bought some resistance bands. I failed a lot, but ist was definitely worth the effort (I almost trained everyday). So don’t worry if you feel like there‘s no chance you can do it, I was always frustrated when I failed, but that’s what was keeping me motivated.

      Believe Inyourself i agree, its very hard to do without using momentum. I think that people what learn how to do pulls up ; i learned just by using a small bar and progressing onto taller bars (pull up to a muscle up)

  • @jakerose8928
    @jakerose8928 8 років тому +224

    waw... U still need basic strength to do it. Is not a full muscle up tutorial, but a technique that tells u how to do it easier, u still need to be able to do more than 10 dips and 10 pull ups comfortable to get a perfect muscle up

    • @sixaethereal5011
      @sixaethereal5011 8 років тому +24

      why 10 dips? the only place dips would help is at the top and you only have to do one pushing movement

    • @jakerose8928
      @jakerose8928 8 років тому +28

      Matt Klyczek
      u r not just trying to do a explosive pull up to explode up, u explode to it then u also need to turn yourself on top of the bar and that part requires a strong triceps but not a bicep, then u need to push, a straight bar dip is harder than a normal dip, is harder than it looks, i say u need to be comfortable doing more than 10 pull ups and 10 dips to be able to perform a perfect muscle up, in the video they r using momentum , a perfect muscle up uses almost no momentum

    • @TheMrJaggasingh12
      @TheMrJaggasingh12 8 років тому +97

      Dude, I can do 18/20 pull ups and more than 20 dips but I'm still struggling with the muscle up.

    • @jakerose8928
      @jakerose8928 8 років тому +20

      Googlesucksballs
      then u should realized u can do ur first 2 or 3 pull ups a lot more faster, keep doing it faster, until u can explode to a height where ur belly touches the bar, and keep training straight bar dips, remember to go as deep as u can, get ur chest to the bar and push it up. and try to do a muscle up with momentum every time before the workout.
