This is one great, but for beginners, Chris Heria's magic button technique is easier - it involves some help from the legs (which is quite a lot but its far from crossfit-like dipping ;D)
Pilous has a better one. It shows the types of muscle ups, the requirements, progressions, purposes, pros and cons and how to train above 10 muscle ups.
Wtf i just did my first muscle up after watching this. I've tried it over a 100 times before. I knew i had the strength just needed to get the technique right. You explain everything so well. Keep up the good work guys 💪🏼
Recently I did my first muscle up and I just felt the need to thank you even if this message will never be read. Thank you Alex and the crew behind Calisthenicmovement!
When I first learn to muscle up, I struggle with the problems too. These years I suffered from shoulder injury (bicep tendentious) and when I feel painful when I try to do muscle up...
Triceps/shoulder strength is also a big part of it. If you can do a lot of straight bar/ring dips the movement should be easy even if you can't get 12 pull-ups
Don’t worry, i cannot get over 10 pullups, but i can handle 2 muscle ups. If your explosiveness and strength is on point, there’s no need to reach 12 pullups.
There might be people with less pullups that do muscle ups and there are people with more pullups who can't do it. For most people this is a good number to start with.
Hey guys I am writing to thank you for putting up this video. I am 43 year old and was struggling to get a muscle up going. I tried many things but two tips in your video, I believe helped me get my first proper muscle up. The first was the tip on the false grip and the second was to use bands to train the muscles. I started with a fat band and then kept progressing till I needed no band. I cannot thank you guys enough. God Bless you!
Watching this after a day of doing a couple muscles with improper form resulting in internal elbow pain causing me to not workout today... I feel like this video put a lot into perspective for me, thank you. Everyone reading this comment please send my elbow healing energy :)
I just want to say after struggling with bar muscle up for about a week, I watched this video yesterday and did my first bar muscle up today! The part where he explains the swinging and timing pulling up with the fall back momentum was the difference maker. Thank you for this concise and yet detailed tutorial.
I must admit, this video helped me a lot. I knew I had enough strength, but for a long time I didn't understand what I have dont wrong. Thank you so much !
Alex's cameo on trainingpal's video earlier really caught me off guard. Glad to see you guys staying humble even though you're already one of the biggest calisthenics channels on UA-cam. That being said, I hope Dave can make an appearance in one of your videos in the future too. :)
I have watched a lot of tutorials on muscle up and I can say yours is the best! If you add the slow muscle up with no false grip as .part 2, It will be a complete guide
Cali move always show the way for right progression of a exercise. One of the best thing about this channel is that it has been years now i have been following this channel, And still they always make quality video and don't rush into making quantity videos.
I just want to say thank you for this video. I was one of the guys who could do a few muscle ups with sloppy form. after watching this video I went to train muscle ups and was very happy with how easily I was able to clean up my form and how it seemed to take less effort when applying the techniques and timing you described. can't thank you enough for this outstanding tutorial!
They are not the best because they are not in the league of the hardest. However, a fast clean muscle up is the exercise which separates a novice from an andvanced calisthenist. Slow muscle up is even harder.
Don't give up! It doesn't mean you will never make a muscle up because you are already bad at pull ups. With hard training and discipline you can achieve anything! 💪
Nice video! Excelent explanation and performance. Agree in everything, bro... but what you said about negative ones. They are not there to build explosive strenght, their job is to work the shoulder mobility for my overbulked students! The closer you can confortably get to the bar during muscle up transition the cheaper the movement is... if I go slow-mo I scratch my chest! Great, great job yours any way! Congratulations
Great tutorial. I just went from being able to do a single dodgey one sided muscle up, to being able to do 4 clean muscle ups with your 'level 2' technique.
Thanks - did first muscle up thanks to tutorial. Have been able to do lots of pull ups but did not have the technique for the muscle up. Really helped. Thank you again.
guys i have to say this is the best muscle up tutorial ever I've watched. i finally nailed it by following the techniques and grips part. people out there say muscle up is nothing but a trick but I couldn't agree completely cuz my triceps exhausted like hell after my first muscle up today LOL
A big shout out to the cameraman who shot this video. Rarely do I see videos shot from all the angles required for a clear explanation. Infact this channel has the best shot videos with both correct and incorrect form shown.
At last a video for the explosive muscle up, and a quality one as any other, thanks guys! Question: The low reps many sets long rest scheme sure is great for learning the move, I’ve been doing it and see great progress. However each training session is elongated because of the scheme so I wonder what’s the most time efficient way to go if I want to train for the muscle up AND maintain strength in other areas like pushing strength, core, legs,...?
Thank you so much bro!!! I watched some tutorials but I couldn't do the muscle up. Yesterday I watched your video and today I've checked some mistakes and... I've done it!!
This is the best video for the muscle ups on the tube yet! Thank you! Two questions though: After training high volume of muscle ups on a session, can I do a burn out of pullups, dips and pushups or should I just focus on muscles ups movements on that day? And for each workout should I try to aim to do more reps of muscle ups then the previous session or work to increase more reps per sets?
Hard to say. Depends on your workout schedule and your training methods and you goals and and and :D You don't necessarily aim for more reps every workout. It would mean that you do hundrets one day, which is maybe impossible. So when you learn the technique keep in mind to not go to your limit, if you mastered the technique you can go close to fatigue.
El Eggs Well aslong as you are training for explosive strength you need to work far away from fatigue. Working till fatigue benefits hypertrophie and endurance rather then (explosive) strength.
Wow very good, high-quality and informative video, today I was trying to do muscle ups but I couldn't, and now I saw your video, I should try what you say
I see similar video patterns with Daniel's from FitnessFaqs last vidoe, which is not bad.Not bad at all. After all,you are the 2 best Calisthenics channels on YT. Well deserved!
Hi guys Really good and helpful video. I've just started the journey to learn the muscle up myself and really enjoy your tips. From what I'm experiencing so far I don't think that the negative muscle up is totally pointless. Point taken, that it doesn't help you later on for the real thing, but it's really beneficial to teach your body the movement around this awkward transition point and build strength in a position which you wouldn't train otherwise. Just my 2 cents. Anyway, again, applause for your content and thanks for the help! Christian

No shit I try to do everytime and every time I break my hand joints😭😭.
Lost me at 12 pull ups. Save for later and back to the grind.
My friend cant Reach 12, but can do muscle up. Its just a example
Triceps/shoulder strength is also a big part of it. If you can do a lot of straight bar/ring dips the movement should be easy even if you can't get 12 pull-ups
