H/H match update: ... Second day in a row with no H/H match. I can't recall that ever happening before, but it's not something I was tracking early on. Our returning champion lost his third game, so goes home with a measly $700. After the tie breaker, time ran out and the new champion must wait to try her hand at the super match bonus round, so it's possible they could fit in 2 H/H matches tomorrow... Just a reminder: This is Louisa's third and final week on Match Game '7x, so if she's ever going to get a shot at the H/H match, it's got to be soon. (The same could be said for Sheldon, as this is his one and only week on the show.) Quick recap of recent history: Richard has played 21 of the past 26 H/H matches, and matched 9 of them. Brett has played 3 of the past 26, matching 1. Of the two remaining attempts, Fannie matched one and Betty missed one. Here's the standing leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 39.1% (122 wins in 312 attempts). Brett - 38.8% (19 wins in 49 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 568, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
For me this was a GOLD STAR EPISODE. So funny. Louisa was more hilarious than usual. Charles and him telling Gene that's it's time for his bath, never gets old. And the nail bit also. For the pumpkin question, I thought of JACK-O-LANTERN. That maybe what Fannie was going for when she said LANTERN.
The mutual roasting between Brett and Fannie (@~ 8:00) with Brett telling Fannie she needs to go do her roots and Fannie rebutting that at least she doesn't have to send hers out, is another priceless moment. (Brett's laughter positively lights up the screen.) These were the kinds of exchanges that kept the home audience tuned in week after week back in the '70s, because Brett, Fannie, CNR, Betty, etc. were like old friends and it was a kick to see them poke fun at each other. Had the show been focused 100% on the GAME with zero antics, I believe it probably would've been cancelled already.
Did anybody realize that CNR and Louisa actually work together on a love American style episode? One of my favorites where he played a private detective hired to keep an eye on her❤
yeah, sometimes in other episodes they would remark that a contestant was back on the show due to some 'irregularities' or something in their earlier appearance, they were probably things like what Gene did in this one
I think the weathervane question should have been tossed. Gene said what could have led the contestant to the answer "rooster" when he was describing what a weathervane is. In the long run it didn't matter, but it was potentially unfair to the other contestant.
@@sarahkinsey5434 funny show altogether, richard is very witty too, gene was the perfect host, and brett even comical in her own way. one of the funniest shows was when fannie and a good looking male contestant got frisky after winning the big money. but yeah matchgame was a great concept and a great cast of characters. just wasn't the same after richard left.
I agree. I also thought a part of the human body should be the answer, so I went with pancreas. Louisa ("bone") and Fannie ("gall bladder") went in the same direction. It was a really hard question, and most of the answers were pretty lousy. Richard's a good enough player that he must have known that "lager" had zero chance of matching.
None of these women were as stupid as they seem. It was just a part of the '70's culture to appear so. Not to mention that most panelists were at least 'tipsy' when the show was taped. Richard Dawson did not drink alcohol, which may explain his many correct answers :)
@@Flyonthewall11 He was about 40 percent in correct answers, the same as the rest of the panel. And there were a couple of panelist that said he did drink during and during the game..
@@Flyonthewall11 I wouldn't say that it was a part of 1970s culture for women to appear stupid. While there were men who felt threatened by intelligent women, there were female panelists here who didn't pretend to be stupid, such as Betty White and Arlene Francis. Silly, yes; stupid, no. @Edward Lozano Some men are attracted to the innocent/dumb blonde type, so some female celebrities play that role (Louisa, Joyce Bulifant, Elaine Joyce, Sarah Kennedy). Some don't have to 'play' as hard as others to achieve it, but I doubt anyone could be as ditsy as some of them act yet still be a success.
What do you reckon the writers were going for on the "lucky rabbit's foot" question? I actually liked "Lucky Lager," I've had a few of those myself. But you know, Saturday Night Live debuted in 1975. I wonder if Match Game lost some of their better writers to that show?
That's the second time in as many episodes that Charles used the "doctor says it's time for your bath" joke. He's even wearing the same shirt! Well, it's a different studio audience, I guess if a gag works, stick with it.
I was afraid that would happen. I thought the answer was "jack-o-lantern," but "pie" did occur to me. He couldn't have won, whichever he said. At least he won some money, $700 dollars was no joke for a teacher in the 70's. Or probably today!
The contestant Rick, his voice sounded just like Gary Barghoff's, and he was about the same size as Gary. Just the longer hair, beard, and glasses, strange......sure sounded just like him?
gene always making fun of louisa and her answers, i thought she was perfectly sensible. gene was probably miffed she wouldn't make out with him or something, dude was a perv.
Hag Struan I didn't believe he was that old, so I had to look it up and he was indeed born in 1917. He just does not look or act like he's almost 60 here.

Sheldon with his accent and timing sounds super smart to me. Of course in real life, he was!
Gene was either 57 or 58 in 75. Born in 1917
Did anybody realize that CNR and Louisa actually work together on a love American style episode? One of my favorites where he played a private detective hired to keep an eye on her❤
Oh now I've got to find that episode. Lol If it's on YT. That was a good show too. I love those two.
I was in love with Fanny! She was / is so cute and funny
I'm surprised the weather vane question didn't get tossed when Gene went into his rooster impression!
Yep, he did more or less tell them the answer when he kept talking about the rooster. And they still didn't get it.
yeah, sometimes in other episodes they would remark that a contestant was back on the show due to some 'irregularities' or something in their earlier appearance, they were probably things like what Gene did in this one
Who doesn't love a little feedback at the beginning of a show? 😂😂
Gene is hilarious!!!!😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
I like that Sheldon did this game show. Seemed nice
Panelists:
1. Sheldon Leonard
2. Brett Somers
3. Charles Nelson Reilly
4. Louisa Moritz
5. Richard Dawson
6. Fannie Flagg
Fun fact: Did you know that Richard's real name is Colin Em? He doesn't look like a Colin. Lol

The hunting doctor would've had a lucky "human's foot" ..duh 🙄
Fanny funniest thing going. Always looked forward to her cool funky shirtsl
charles is the funny one to me. the bent nail joke was hilarious.

Well, we have to keep in mind that Louisa was an actress, and her MG persona was in part a character and not exactly the "real" her.
