H/H match update: ... Our returning champion mixes it up with her choice of celebrities for the audience match segment. Today she picks Brett, Richard, and Betty, and goes with Betty's suggestion "Call me up." Unfortunately, she strikes out (Brett's answer was the $500, and Richard gave the $250). I think if the question were asked today, "Call Me Maybe" would be the top answer and "Call Me By Your Name" would be on the board too. Anyway, no H/H match today, which is sad because she failed to match Richard yesterday, and so becomes a 2-day champion with only $300 to show for it (so far -- I haven't watched ahead to know if she wins again or not). Quick recap: Richard has played 12 of the last 13 head-to-head rounds and matched in 7 of them, so he's definitely on a hot streak. (Mary Ann Mobley scored her first H/H match in episode 585.) Here's the standing leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 39.8% (130 wins in 327 attempts). Brett - 38.0% (19 wins in 50 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 588, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Interesting sign from Betty at 0:14. Klass of '07. She was in the klass (wrong spelling, I know) of many years. By the time that year actually came around, she guested on a couple of primetime shows, plus had a recurring role on a daytime soap.
How come when people are joking having fun, people always assume they are drunk here. If they are walking straight, then they arent drunk. People have thought the same thing of someone else on this cast, only to find out he or she never touched liquor. Rip
Does anybody else think that Mike looks like Marvin Hamlisch? However you spell that. Kind of an obscure reference, I'll admit, but they could be brothers! And Katie is so gorgeous, who wouldn't want to hire her as a news anchor? I hope she made it, even if it was only locally.
Oh, but she blew the audience match! She's so young, and both "Call Me Madam" and "Call Me Irresponsible were from the 1940's? You have to listen to the audience response, and you could have heard a pin drop when Betty said "up." Well, maybe she'll learn.
I think it had to count as a match because the contestant's response had no context and they never asked her if she meant "hair" or "hare" -- everyone simply assumed the former. Also, as Gene says nearly every episode "spelling doesn't count." -- But I have to say it wasn't a very typical ("hard") first-round question as the rhyming scheme leaves few possible answers. What else? Chair? Bear? Lair? Mare? Care? Dare? Fair/Fare? Ware? Nair (the hair removal product)?-- all really lousy answers. Maybe the writers really were going for animals the way Betty suggested: Hare, Bear, Mare... Anyway, the contestant was pretty lucky to pick that question!

Wow! If Drew Carey or any other Game Show Host went after his contestants and actresses like this guy "Gene" he would be hit with sexual harassment lawsuits today!
He played Robin Hood in "When Things Were Rotten," a Mel Brooks TV series that ran on ABC for 13 episodes in 1975. Why the anachronistic highlights? I couldn't tell you. They could have gone full blonde, but that might have looked weird(er) on a man with somewhat olive skin and dark brown locks and Brooks wanted him for the role. Maybe the Maestro wanted him to look like he had just stepped out off a 1970s salon and somewhat effeminate for comedic reasons.
Gene creeps me out Kissing this lady and Mary Ann Mobley. He tries to be funny and innocent to cover it - making it more creepy. This person resembles Mary Ann Mobley, actually-not as pretty.
Because it is supposed to be funny and corny? Female celebrities probably tell the produces what they're ok with and what they aren't, which is why some episodes Gene doesn't kiss some of them. Do you find it creepy when the majority of female contestants hug and kiss Richard when he helps them win the money?
@@MooncricketsInc good point. I agree wholeheartedly with you. If anyone didn’t want the kisses I believe they would’ve made it known ahead of time, as you said.

Love Richard in Red and Black.
How do you fit a bar of soap in a bottle?
The rhyming questions are a little unfair since they really narrow down the possible answers.
I agree. They should give rhyming questions to both contestants at the same time.
Dawson really needs to ditch the stupid Laurel and Hardy act and just be genuine.

Gene didn't drink nor smoke, he quit in the 60's, during this time because of a on going medical condition..
Gene is a bit cringey in this episode but everyone plays it off so comically genius 👏🏼
They need their jobs.
Very clever, Betty, coming up with "Hare". And they had to match. 👍😊
Totally agree, that was great
That wasn't what she meant though. She said so. That's why I'm surprised they matched it

That was then and this is now, Kendoll.
