I"ve been watching a run of Charles-less episodes, and now I know what I was missing. No one had his stature and rapport with Brett, among many other delightful things!!!!
H/H match update: ... We start right off with a bonus round and the contestant makes an unconventional choice for the H/H match: She picks a first-time guest panelist! From Sheldon's reactions, he didn't seem to fully understand how the H/H match worked without Gene's coaxing. Not too surprising given it's his first and only week on the show, and there hasn't been a single H/H match the past two days... Today's question: "________ Shirt" To me, this sounds like another sure-win. But T-shirts are more common today than they were in 1975. Button-down shirt? Long-sleeved shirt? Short-sleeved shirt? Night shirt? I don't like any of those and am sticking to T-shirt. We'll see... Perhaps my initial instinct was right after all. The contestant unhesitatingly responds T-shirt. ...And yikes, Sheldon wrote "Sport." Maybe age had something to do with it, since Leonard was born in 1907, so he certainly grew up in an era when T-shirts were less ubiquitous and not nearly as acceptable as general attire the way they are now (or were even back in 1975). The contestant appeared to be in her early 20s, and so obviously had a different perspective. Still, now that I think about it, sport shirt isn't a bad answer at all, really, and is still a common term. No match today. Sadly for the contestant, I have a feeling Richard or Fannie (or really anyone else on the panel) probably would have gotten this one. Still, I admire her for making an unconventional choice. It's certainly more exciting to see a new face in the head-to-head match than seeing Richard play virtually every time. I had some hopes that we might get 2 H/H matches today, but that wasn't the case. We have a decent chance to squeeze two in tomorrow... Here's the standing leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 39.1% (122 wins in 312 attempts). Brett - 38.8% (19 wins in 49 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). As an added bonus today, in honor of Sheldon's head-to-head match attempt, here is a complete list of all the celebs who have been chosen for the H/H so far without matching (in alphabetical order): Lucie Arnaz - chosen 1 time Patty Duke Astin - chosen 1 time Kay Ballard - chosen 1 time Bob Barker - chosen 2 times Amanda Blake - chosen 1 time Larry Blyden - chosen 1 time Joyce Bulifant - chosen 1 time Jack Cassidy - chosen 2 times Bill Cullen - chosen 1 time Clifton Davis - chosen 2 times Richard Deacon - chosen 1 time Stephanie Edwards - chosen 2 times Nanette Fabray - chosen 2 times Arlene Francis - chosen 1 time Dick Gautier - chosen 1 time Larry Hovis - chosen 1 time Carol Lawrence - chosen 1 time Ruta Lee - chosen 1 time Sheldon Leonard - chosen 1 time Robert Q. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!"
We'll never know what Louisa wrote down for the last question about the horses. I'm dying to know. Gene was perplexed to say the least about it. She was hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣.
The Asian lady SHOULD have gotten TWO matches on her question. That would have made for a tie. Just a “good ‘ol boys club” case of favoring the one they liked better. Yuck.
Oh, but there are so many kinds of shirts! Does Sheldon strike you as the kind of guy who wears a lot of T-shirts? Undershirts, probably, but I'll bet he wears that tie at home!
sorry, got a chuckle out of Richard's card....I know spelling was the best for many on the show, but wonder if anyone ever told him tthe difference between "Pooh" and "poo"....

This week I've seen Gene be very short with Louisa. Harsher teasing than he typically does with the ladies who guest in that corner. Gene has shocked me with some of his comments, but mostly thought he was a charismatic host.
Every game show needs a clown to entertain the audience. Match game has got one of the biggest clowns around too bad she does not have the clown make-up on. Ready for it. The clown is” Brett Sommers” naturally born as a clown.

Without Brett and Charles the show was definitely lacking! They were a team!
He was awesome.
So funny. I love these reruns.
"Mommy, mommy, daddy's on fire!"
His mother said, "Shut up and get some more... marshmallows."
Wood
"Mommy, Mommy - what's a Werewolf?"
"Shut up and comb your face!"

Sorry Gizmo, but marshmallows have gelatin and gelatin is from pigs. Leviticus chapter 11 has what not to eat. Pigs are a no-no!
Ah man, Charles is so funny
Charles is the best humor therapy at Covid or anytime!
oh god this episode is hilarious! charles is a riot
He knew Zorro!
I love the way Bret and Charles (Chuck) play fight !🤗
Got old quickly thou, very quickly..

They carry the show in my opinion! Honestly, those two are the best comedic pair!
@@generay4054 Not as quickly as her "Encino Motel" bit. That was the worst.
@@nuwavedave I agree, how many time did she bring that up? Aleast 25 times.

Yea..He made some comment like "are you sure you want to do that"?
You never match a specific with a general?? You do all the time!
Agreed. The rules drifted all around.
Agreed. Total crap! That Ira always makes my blood pressure go up with his idiotic judgements!!!!!
The Asian lady SHOULD have gotten TWO matches on her question. That would have made for a tie. Just a “good ‘ol boys club” case of favoring the one they liked better. Yuck.
Always thought of a general answer being safe. Like instead of knife say weapon. Covers all weapons
Zorro became an Italian - Japanese anime based on the USA Zorro. Interesting!
I had a feeling Sheldon wouldn't stick to the easy 👕. I think 🤔 he thought it should be fancier 😔 poor Sheldon
He definitely tried.
i said something similar, but said because he was older he would not say t shirt but sport was a lousy answer from anyone
i had a feeling sheldon was too old to say t-shirt but SPORT shirt?!!! come on
Sport shirt? It should've been a straight win with T-shirt. That can't be any more obvious of an answer.
Oh, but there are so many kinds of shirts! Does Sheldon strike you as the kind of guy who wears a lot of T-shirts? Undershirts, probably, but I'll bet he wears that tie at home!
Oh, Caroline, I'm in love! And she's funny, too! Well, I was 12 years old at the time. (Sigh!) Maybe in the next life...
No, they never match specifics and generals, except when they do. I guess it depends on what kind of mood Ira is in.
"Two chests and one rear," sounds like a party.
"zing zing zing"... the inspiration for "Zorro The Gay Blade"
Goldfish. Though one of them is dead. Hence ‘Casper’.
Love Leonard's gangster talk.🤣
Bill's head is so pointed that his wife uses him as a construction cone
i said ice pick......thinking about the 70's
... uses him as a lawn dart 🎯
The answer is, 'marshmallows.'
From Gene's description, I think I'll stick with the 1950s Zorro TV series.
sorry, got a chuckle out of Richard's card....I know spelling was the best for many on the show, but wonder if anyone ever told him tthe difference between "Pooh" and "poo"....
Winnie the Pooh was around since 1926 and by an English author, I'm sure Richard knew about him, but poo on him if he didn't lol

This is Louisa's third and final week on the show. I wonder if there's any connection?
T 👕 dress 👕 or stuffed 👕. Lotsa good choices for the pointed head question
Big Eddie TV show was cancelled quickly

That’s crap. Posterior IS body. That is a stupid, asinine rule!
Posterior is a euphemism for bottom.
I am sure if not everyone clapped for you intro you get mad on your show.. notice he didn't complain..
