I will miss Margot. But I’m glad she stayed as long as she did! 😊
The world-infamous Gene BLANK! Thanks man!
Gene Rayburn was a lucky man. Had a great job.
End-of-week H/H match recap:
...
This week we only had 4 H/H matches total, 2 of which were successful: Richard 2/4
(Monday's champion didn't match an audience response and so didn't advance to the H/H match.)
If you've been watching the shows in order, you've noticed that for the past 4 and a half weeks, Richard has been the overwhelmingly dominant choice for the head-to-head match. As of today he's played 18 of the last 20 H/H matches, and now he's matched 8 of those 18 times.
"_______ Motors" ... My first thought was General Motors... And it was unanimous.
... Richard scores his 121st H/H match.
And so we end the week with no changes in stats for Bill Daily and Patti Deutsch: Both have had two attempts at the H/H in the past. Bill matched both times, and Patti matched once.
(Random note: I don't track the results of the ordinary questions, but Bill seemed to have a lot of difficulty in coming up with answers this week, giving more than his share of real clunkers. Even so, he will continue to be a MG presence, even occasionally occupying the #5 chair after Richard retires from the show. In fact, it's Bill who will be the very last celeb to sit in that chair during the show's final 10 episodes - 1446-1455.)
Dr. Joyce Brothers will have two more weeks on the show down the road, so she still has a chance to try her luck at the H/H match.
Looking ahead, we have another week of all familiar faces on our celebrity panel.
Bob Barker is back for his third week (of 8 total). Bob is another celeb who will sit in the #5 chair (for 3 weeks in 1978) following Richard's departure. Bob has already been chosen for the H/H twice, but hasn't yet scored a win.
Arlene Francis also returns for her third week (of 6 total). She was chosen for the H/H once, but didn't match. Interestingly, she and Bob were already on the panel together, way back on the show's second week in 1973, along with Della Reese, Richard Dawson, Richard Thomas, and Miss Michael Learned!
And sixth-seat semi-regular Fannie Flagg is back!
Will Richard's almost total monopoly on the H/H match stretch into its fifth week? (And will he keep wearing that dark blue tennis racquet sweater?) Stay tuned!
Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts).
Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts).
TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
Fannie - 50% (9 wins in 18 attempts).
Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts).
Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts).
Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
Richard - 39.2% (121 wins in 309 attempts).
Brett - 38.3% (18 wins in 47 attempts).
Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
*These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 560, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
12:11 " ALLRIGHT EARL SLIDE IT ".
With that last win Richard has now giving away 700,000 dollars. ;0)
What about the others? Who was in 2nd place?
Richard and Gene's exchange over the Tony Bennett impersonation around 6:10 is cute and friendly... and I love how Gene is trying to remember the name of the Beatles song "Something." Richard does his Tony Bennett a few times and Gene seems to really encourage it.
Premier to
Charles rides again! (17:31)
Charles Nelson Reilly was fabulous, but I wish he had waved goodbye more often to contestants as they left.
Time to grow up
That, and applauded more when Gene introduced them. But you know, nobody's perfect.
I never noticed.
As I rewatch this show this week was one of the funniest in a while! Bill was one of the funniest panelists and he fit right in with the top row shenanigans! I love him on his shows too! He’s hilarious!
I've heard that Richard Dawson was the reason they got the star wheel!
Show lost something when they got the wheel.
@@m.e.d.7997 it's cheesy.
And thank goodness.
It is 1975 on The Match Game and Gene is learning about new things including what the s called a microphone and cord to use for the show. Nice job b Gene
That means next week, we'll see the first episode I ever saw. 563 I think.
Well at least he asked first before drinking the water.. But I love what Patti did afterwards.. She growing on me now.. ;0)
I think back then my father had the same tie that Gene is wearing.
I thought nose was a shoo-in
How's bout face.
A chicken's rear?!?!?!? Really?!?!?!?
I thought fryer.
Makes more sense of you’ve watched Friends and seen Joey and Monica with a turkey on their head.
Guess what? Chicken Butt!
A slow week again this week with Richard being the only person to give away money this week. Richard gave away 11,750 dollars in head to head and audience match matches with 13 matches for the reguars. Bill won for the semi regulars with 8 matches.
3:08 Patti sneeze
That would be a felony now🤣
It was right after Gene took a drink of water from her cup. She’s hilarious!
Patti’s cool, liked her sneeze.
I liked her Mrs. Howard Cosell. Patti never failed that impression.
Of course, being of Scottish and Irish descent, I find her attracive, too.
Carol Bartos what a good looking woman. I think Gene liked her too and Richard.
What was not to like?
I like her. She's pleasant, and gracious.
Patti is so cute
This.
Was.
Sooooo good!

@David Not true, I care about what you think
Hmm ... we had this "Gene _____" episoide.
Anyone at MatchGameProductions have the "_____ Blank" episode?
If you do, which one is it?
Different mic
And it doesn't sound as good. They went back to the Sony.
When these shows aired - at least in 1975, I was all of 10 years old. I so rarely thought Brett was funny; I just assumed her humor was more adult. Now that I'm adult, I guess it was "of the era". Oh well...
No, she was just not funny at all.
Was Carol the one that put American Motors out of business? Tune in next week for the answer.
No, it was shitty cars
Carol Bartos is my favorite contestant. Is she still with us?
Repeat second question??
Band...gene wasn't the "luckyman" WE were because HEwas/IS "matchgame"😃

That Bill is funny, love him! 😅🥰
This cast has been on for more than 5 episodes. Did they increase production demands at this point?
Not just added MGPM to the tapping schedule so they are now tapping 6 shows a day with the same panel, 12 over the weekend.
This group started with Episode 556. You can see them in the preview at the end of Ep. 555 (but not in Ep. 555 itself).
Carol’s son Tony would be in his late 40’s now. Crazy.
I'd laugh my ass off if gene rayburn WASN'T up there
Omg...around 12 minutes in Gene says something awful to Earl.
Did he say back of the *bus*? Please tell me he didn't.
@@PV-pu5iu Gene was just too much sometimes.
