As a 1960s-1970s child and teen, I loved him on Bewitched, Hollywood Squares, and on his own sitcom from 1973. That show is on You Tube. He was so funny.
One of the funniest bewitched episodes was when Uncle Arthur was going to teach Darrin an incantation to get Endora to back off when she got nasty. He gives Darrin a kazoo and a cowbell and makes him sing the "yagga zoozy song". I laughed out loud and I still do. Darrin is singing this stupid song and playing the kazoo and shaking the cowbell and Uncle Arthur is back in the hallway laughing so hard he is losing it.
I was a kid when he was in his prime - ALWAYS LOVED his humor and quick wit. ZERO CLUE about his preferences and honestly never cared even after I learned years after his passing. There will never be a talent like him - ever.
Paul, RIP...I recall watching you on TV as a kid. My life lately has taken such a rotten turn...watching you brings a smile to me, which I need so much. You made me laugh and still do! No one will EVER replace your talent!
Paul was a comedic genious with perfect timing for his zingers. I loved him on TV in everything he played in. He was hysterical in everything he did on TV.
Paul Lynde acts the same way in every role he plays. The reason that he was not more successful in Hollywood was because of his limited range. For the most part Lynde was funny yet he could be cruel at times.
Paul could be serious, though - and sounded quite different when not being "funny." I say this because I vividly remember him doing a radio PSA in 1976-77 for The Greater New York Blood Program (urging people to donate blood) that aired early Sunday mornings and late Sunday evenings on WABC 77 when they were running public affairs programming in-between the music. His tone was way different from when he supplied his particular "bon mots" on the Marshall "Squares."
I watched Paul on betwitched as a kid.. Watching these i love how when he cracks a quick joke the lil laugh he does real quick then goes back to being serious! Man was hysterical!
One of his best responses was to a question about cooking. The question was: “According to the food critic of the Dallas Morning News, what’s a good reason for pounding meat?” Paul’s response: “Oh, loneliness!” The audience laughed for 15 minutes straight.
Not questioning your information that the audience laughed "15 minute straight," but sounds pretty extreme. They would obviously have to edit our about 14 of those 15 minutes of laughter for the actual broadcast. Just curious where you heard this.

My God! How pathetic! All the comments making such a fuss about Paul Lynde being gay! So what! Concentrate on what is important - that he was a comedic genius with great timing and delivery instead of what his personal life was. As a straight guy, knowing Paul was gay never deterred me from enjoying or appreciating his talent.
Paul Lynde was amazing BECAUSE he was gay. No straight guy could ever have pulled off that shit with such flair! 💗💗💗 Folks who say they like him "anyway" need to have their heads checked.
@@LubaFan I disagree. I refuse to reduce anyone to nothing but their sexual preference. There is an untold number of factors that makes each of us an individual.
Writers gave Cliff Arquette(lovely Rosanna's grandpa)some excellent answers but, those Mr. Lynde had ready(thought up, himself),always, were clever and, quite amusing! This was enhanced, by his impeccable delivery and, timing-as has been noted.
Paul Lynde was all-natural, he couldn't help himself, his quick wit, and his body language were so ironic, that no own could help but hysterically 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡, his voice all of him, hilarious.

im stupid? lol ive probably forgotten more than you will ever know while you surf the net in your mom's basement. moron. I get the point..but you don't obviously. except the point under your baseball hat which is probably turned backwards and stained with Cheetos dust you fat fuck.
The ONLY reason to ever watch Hollywood Squares, was
PAUL LYNDE!
A great comedian!
Truly the greatest in witty banter!
R.I.P. Mr. Lynde
lol....you do know all these things paul says were written for him..dont you?
yes. it was explained by marshall. it was up to them to come up with their own witty funny answers or give the correct answer
Jade Zee No it wasn't. And you can tell by (some) delays and some (rare) unfunny answers by him.
i agree paul was the bedt, i remember seeing this show as a 9 or 10 yesr old
+Lynn Bechard-Hulley Wrong, fact they were briefed ahead of time with the questions and Paul had writers. This is a fact not a opinion. That doesn’t mean he didn’t come up with some answers on the fly.
His comedic timing was perfect. A real genius.
I haven't laughed this hard in awhile. One of a kind classic.
"It's not easy to sign up a crew for six months."
God I loved Paul Lynde. My fuckin' hero.
He ran a clinic on comedic timing and delivery.
i love Paul Lynde soooooooooooo much.
Paul had enormous untapped potential-A true comedic genius-RIP
Did Paul use HYPHENS instead of PERIODS too, son?
Untapped?? He used everything he had to its fullest potential.
Paul Lynde was so funny 😁. He made my day. R I P Paul
He was one of a kind.
I will always think Paul's funniest thing was on Bewitched when Darin was fooled into thinking that he had been given the ability to cast spells like a warlock!
Me too. He told Samantha it was to give Darrin confidence. There was no spell on it.
He was a campy dear soul , just wanted to be loved and make people feel good! He was ashamed of his father being a butcher.
Thank you so much for taking the time to post this, it has just been a pleasure laughing at one amazing comic as he was, my all time favorite. He was one of kind!!!
As Paul Lynde s absolute number 1 fan I ll always remember him very fondly and the liking of him and my really huge crush on him very fondly too and I really miss him like crazy and always will!!!
He was fantastic with an incredible sense of quik humor always
I have always loved Paul in anything he did. I am 64 my mom did to she was 90 and we got to share lot's of laughter together.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Paul thanks for all the memories I got to share with my mom 😇🕊️❤️. R. I. P.. To BOTH of you ❤️
Paul Lynde was do funny on every show he was ever in. Loved him in Bewitch hilarious!!
Oh what a funny funny man. And cute as a button to. Loved Hollywood Squares . It made the week go faster looking forward to it. Wish to that tv were that funny and good today as it was then .
It *was* viewed as a problem by a lot of people when these shows aired.
Well said bro. He was great
It doesn't matter if ur guy, strate, or any race as long as ur great at what u do that's all that counts he was and is a great man 🤗
Paul Lynde was amazing BECAUSE he was gay. No straight guy could ever have pulled off that shit with such flair! 💗💗💗
Folks who say they like him "anyway" need to have their heads checked.
@@LubaFan I disagree. I refuse to reduce anyone to nothing but their sexual preference. There is an untold number of factors that makes each of us an individual.
Paul Lynde was the very best.
Bob Peterman Charles Nelson Reilly was a good one, too.
Writers gave Cliff Arquette(lovely Rosanna's grandpa)some excellent answers but, those Mr. Lynde had ready(thought up, himself),always, were clever and, quite amusing! This was enhanced, by his impeccable delivery and, timing-as has been noted.
Don Crabbe he actually didn’t thinking up them, they were all written by his own writers.
@@rachaelbly6714 NOPE
Cliff often got questions on American history; he was a history buff.
I read once that some of the stars were given questions in advance to prepare these zingers. Very few were truly ad-libbed
WHAT WAS THAT MASKED MAN I DIDN'T GET HIS NAME I WANTED TO THANK HIM. 💘 U PAUL
Thanx, I am deaf and MISSED that PUNCH line!
“A giant tortoise on a Seattle Jew. “ I Peed my pants that was so funny
Paul Lynde was all-natural, he couldn't help himself, his quick wit, and his body language were so ironic, that no own could help but hysterically 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡, his voice all of him, hilarious.
He was the reason I watched the Hollywood squares he was so funny
When isn't Tina Turner beautiful 🌸🌼💐
"Well, if I tell (my secret) to a man, he might hit me!" LMAO....
I loved Peter Marshall!! Paul too but Peter was such a great host!
Paul was a genius and who cares if he was gay
True; I mostly was bothered more by his occasional racist-color slur-type jokes!😮
Wow. Can't get away with that "Seattle Jew" joke now. LOL. Man, Paul died 3 years before my birth. He was funny as hell and Roger The Alien was based off him.
What brought you here?

@20:40, is that Leslie Uggams?

Shut up
Best comedians to ever live, by my estimation, Paul Lynde and Robin Williams !
Randy Cable You're right about Lynde.
Totally agree! Love them both!
Paul Lynn was so funny , very quick with his witty answers
