      I suppose there is no research since it's not widespread problem among adults after 25. However it won't hurt to try using one of these therapies for children and see if it helps - the only drawback is that you have no certainty that your money is worth it. If you wear contact lenses try buying misight for example, if you wear glasses, try changing to mayiosmart, etc. After a year of using 0.05 atropine I had no progression, buy after the next 6 months of intense work I had another 0.05 mm of axial elongation, so don't assume that these therapies would work wonders. I have heard that for children atropine combined with mayiosmart gives the best results, but for now I'm testing misight. Misight are unfortunately 1 day only, have low oxygen transmission and dry quickly.

    I live in the UK, and I'm 62. Yesterday, I had my first eye test in 9 years! I also had an Optical Cohesion Tomography test. A couple of years ago, I developed Posterior Vitreous Detachment in my right eye, and then in my left. This is common and is due to natural ageing. Symptoms include floaters and flashing in my peripheral vision. However, the good news is my eye health is excellent, except for the PVD! My corrected vision is perfect! So, the Lutein supplement, eggs, carrots, and fresh fruit and vegetables must be helping to keep my eyes as healthy as possible for my age?
    Eyesight is very important, and very precious. Take care of it!

      There are two potential causes that could come to mind. First - chemo is notorious for inducing refractive changes within the lens of the eye, as well as cataract development - which can shift the power of the eye.
      Second is some people I see in the clinic (even without chemo) - also get over-minused (glasses rx too strong) and they are in fact over-using their eye muscles to compensate. And around the age of 40, the lens inside the eye begins to crystalize to a point where its hard to compensate with the eye muscles - so they start to relax the muscles and they want less of a glasses prescription.
      Just some thoughts.
      Glad to hear the chemo worked for you!

      @DoctorEyeHealth  3 місяці тому +8

      I have had good questions come through about the mechanisms or "how" this all works so I think I will write a video going more in depth.
      In general, myopia develops most rapidly during our adolescent years and so the greatest impact of myopia management strategies occurs when treated at a young age. However, some people who do progress into adulthood could theoretically still benefit from these strategies but I would not expect as great of a result.

    Lifestyle must play an important role. Neither parent had myopia, my dad was 20/15 even. And I had myopia. (Sibling did not) I played outside a bunch just like everyone else, although I loved to read as a child. It seems like rushing to correct my eyes made it worse, I got glasses in first grade because I was having a little trouble seeing the board. Got a little worse each year until I was told to wear them all the time and the rate accelerated significantly after that. There has to be some kind of signal mechanism back to the eye to get the correct growth.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  3 місяці тому

      Yeah there is a signal mechanism, several as it seems. It is not fully understood but we know light plays a role (possibly specific wavelengths), possibly a signal from the internal eye muscles, also the focus of the light onto the retina of the eye (including specific quadrants and areas of the retina). Dopamine signaling and Nitric oxide have been cited to play a role in collagen growth, there are also some smaller studies looking at nutritional influences.

    • @jonboner2987
      @jonboner2987 3 місяці тому +1

      @@DoctorEyeHealth well said. I would recommend you looking into Jake Steiner's endmyopia community and their methodologies for addressing refractive errors. It seems like our eyes do in fact have a mechanism for improving its refractive abilities, as the current mindset is that we solely use refractive crutches for treating improper visual acuity.
      But from the results of many enacting these tactics, their visual acuity has improved from releasing that locked up ocular tension by reigniting their brain-to-ciliary connection to start releasing and clearing up blur from many distances. It definitely isnt a quick fix, as it indicates that visual habits do matter, and that taking care of the eyes is a lifelong journey just like the rest of our body. Feel free to look into it (and even try out the visual habit shifts if you have time), and let us know your thoughts. Thanks a ton for your videos! O7

    Is there a connection between myopia and people who are introverted, where social contact is not comfortable? With introverts, sometimes going outside is not a welcome activity, and spending more time indoors socializing electronically is usually preferred.

    • @jonboner2987
      @jonboner2987 3 місяці тому

      I wouldnt be surprised. A lot of people with minus glasses, usually had some onset of a focusing spasm in the ciliary, whether it be a twist (astigmatism), or a spherical lockup (myopia). Our visual habits matter in preventing lockups in the eye's focusing muscles, including looking far distance from prolonged close up work, along with central fixation and noticing the WHOLE sphere that's connected to the central point.
      With lower confident people, they most likely filtered out a good part of the world just to focus on a limited range for directional clarity (sometimes called tunnel vision, or eccentric fixation from Dr. Bates).
      The key is to start stimulating the eyes again and have a shift in how you view vision (so not just seeing solely the center and a sparse range around it, but connecting with as much of the peripheral WHILE focusing on the center).
      Feel free to check out Mark Warren and Jake Steiner's videos on these subjects.
      Tldr: our visual habits matter in releasing the lockup/irregular ocular tension that is causing many refractive errors. So your mood and confidence and posture have an effect on one's eyesight as well, especially if it interferes with good visual habits.

I visited an ophthalmologist who diagnosed me with both myopia and astigmatism, which he said I've had since birth. This is surprising because I had clear vision just last month. I'm 26 years old, and this blurry vision began around mid-May 2024, with the diagnosis coming in August 2024. Is it possible that I was misdiagnosed? Additionally, I've noticed changes in the axis of my astigmatism over the past few weeks, with occasional double vision at 90 and sometimes at 180 degrees. I'm quite confused.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  3 місяці тому

      Bifocals and progressive addition lenses (PALS) have been found to be only minimally effective over single vision lenses. The one exception to this is the executive bifocal with base-in prism, which has been proven most effective in children with low lags of accommodation - however executive bifocals are often not made anymore and difficult to find an optical lab which will/can manufacture them. Also a challenge for children to use them consistently. But they are sometimes prescribed/used in countries outside the US.
      But appreciate this great question.

    I asked multiple optometrists here to order a myo-k lens and they don't know how , I can buy them online but I need a prescription , my eyes are -8 and -6 right now , no astigmatism , and recently check for KCN and corneal thickness ect . All healthy , but as its progressing Im afraid to cause future problems with myopia , how can I find proper number for this night time lenses?
    Are the prescription same as soft contact lenses? Thank you so much

    Hi, I have floathers and eye flicker
    I probably have diabetes (high sugar level), I will go to the doctor soon to check my blood
    I had an eye test a month ago and everything was fine (with my eyes), but why is my eye flickering?
    Will it stop if I have low blood sugar or will it be permanent?

    If the lenses that were ordered with my glasses have a different prescription than the one given by the doctor, that should be the reason why i cannot see properly with my new glasses even after 3 days? for example SPH by the doctor is +1.5 and the ordered lenses are SPH - 1.25

    Dr. Allen, I have two things to ask you. 1) sometimes my eyes (I call it scramble) and what I mean is that I'll be looking at something or reading and my eyes like move so fast back and forth I guess and then I can refocus. Is this a problem? And 2) I come from a family with brown eyes on both sides of my parents. My dad and grandmother had brown eyes but as they progressed with age the outer rim of the eyes turned blue and now that I am 69 yrs. old, because I have it now and I am wondering if that is a concern. Thank you for sharing and God Bless you and your family. 🥰👍👍👍👍👍(🌹🐞🦂🌵)

      Hey! Thank you so much for the questions. Rapid onset eye control movements, sometimes called nystagmus (or other conditions that mimic it), has a long list of diagnosis and should be evaluated by a local eye care professional or a neurologist, some people do specialize in eye movements such as pediatric or neuro optometrists and ophthalmologists.
      As people age, it is not uncommon to see a grey, yellow or light blue ring develop around the outside of the iris, technically, this color change is developing on the cornea and is referred to as arcus senilis. This is usually due to cholesterol lipids depositing in the tissue and if we see it in a younger person (under the age of 40) it could be a sign of high cholesterol but again, is considered normal in older individuals. With that being said, there are other possible conditions that can cause a similar appearance to the eyes and for that reason, best to ask a local eye doctor about this too.
      Hope this helps. Cheers

    I am very nearsighted. My kids are about half as bad as I am. I was very good about screens when they were young and we went outside as much as possible in Ohio. I hate that almost all schoolwork is now done on computers. At least they do get textbooks at their school but at the public schools here the textbooks are only available in the classroom - they have to use the ones online at home. With my oldest we were doing the hard lenses at night, but when We moved to SC I couldn’t find a provider anywhere that offered it. I discontinued them because I didn’t feel comfortable doing it without having an eye doctor close by. I think the closest was 4 hours away.

    Hi dreyehealth.
    I have a question. When I look at a bright light like a flashlight I get blind spots (afterimages) in the vision that last around 5 minutes. It's like I am blind for 5 minutes ( I know it's called flash blindness). I had laser eye surgery around 2 years ago and I noticed this problem right after I had the surgery so it was most likely caused by the surgery. Is it normal for an afterimage to last 5 minutes? How long is normal?
    Thanks

    Hey sir I need your help I have a huge problem with my eyes being dry but let me tell my story. So it all started when I was in 12th grade in 2022 in the month of September and I was in class feeling normal and then all of a sudden I feel like a sensation in my eye and it felt like it was very dry. So I told my parents about it and they didn’t think I would have this and so overtime I’ve tried to take medicine to feel better from the dry eyes but I take this blue pill that makes me go to sleep and so the thoughts of my eyes being dry would go away. I thought the medicine would help me but it actually made it worse because overtime whenever I feel sad my eyes suddenly get dry and I feel like a burning sensation and a itch and that I have to wash my face every 5 minutes to make sure it goes away. Here is the worst part about this ever since I’ve had my dry eyes even tho I don’t feel them dry but I feel like something is wrong with my eyes but my family thinks it’s all in my head. So my dry eyes have affected my life mentally because when I feel them dry it makes me stutter more when talking to people and talking to myself, it makes me focus on my blinking instead of focusing on other things that I like and it makes my thought process get worse because when I think of words I want to say when talking to people and talking to myself me focusing on my blinking and stuttering makes me say the wrong words and repeat it over and over and over until I say it right. Also everytime I wash my face the burning sensation on my eyes gets worse. Since that day I still have dry eyes when I don’t feel it but I feel that burn when I blink and after I put on eye drops I still feel them dry. I have more bad days then good because of this and when I have my eyes dry rn it makes me talk fast, stutter more, type fast, and not think well especially at work and at home. So if anybody can help me, what do I do? Because I feel depression because of this. But at this point, I don’t even know what I have anymore if it’s dry eye syndrome or something else but I feel so sad everytime and idk what to do I’ve done my part to distract myself bur the more I blink the worse I get because I can’t get rid of the thought of me blinking and how it affects my whole life. Pls Doctor if you read this help me give me advice because I feel like my life is falling apart.

    Please look at studies of using inexpensive bifocal reading glasses with zero diopters on top.
    My opinion is doctors do more harm than good when prescribing the first pair of glasses.
    Correcting for distance and using the same lens for reading and close-up work really makes no sense.
    Newfangled lenses might be interesting but if good results can be had with old technology, what's the point?
    Children's books have large print, why do they print smaller as age goes up?
    How many schools teach and practice good vision habits?
    My guess is about zero.
    Do any schools provide glasses for all the computer work expected to be done?
    My guess is about zero.
    Resorting to drugs because of poor habits is.... Lazy?

      This really very good question, if one was prescribed to correct for shortsightdens, it's not fair to use the same lense to read or do some activities near to him. I hope this is the main reason why my sight was getting worse and worse as compared to my first sight -1.2

    • @mballer
      @mballer 3 місяці тому

      @@STATAHUBS
      -1.2 is almost nothing.
      Practice looking at distant objects far away with a bit less diopters, don't use them indoors.
      People have gotten rid of their glasses just by using their eyes properly, looking at distant things until little by little they become clear.
      And never strain with close-up vision.

    In USSR they gave atropine to child with myopia, also provided red light treatment. So funny in USSR we always looked at western world as ideal health care society. Cos in movies they showed us all fancy ct scanners and crazy heart transplants which we didn't have in USSR. And we always wanted that sugary bright products we didn't have in USSR. Now I can say that biggest regret is collapse of USSR. Even fasting, they did crazy research on fasting and had clinics practicing fasting for weight loss and pressure control. In my school we had only one fat guy and everyone in school knew his as fat one, same in university. In my class 31 people we had zero kids in glasses. Crazy. After US dentists it's not only cheaper to fly back to russia, but it's also better quality. I know it's hard to believe.

    Wow!! I had no idea this was possible. I had 3 children in 4 years and this caused my prescription to change from -3.25 to -5.25! I was -1.25 to -3.25 from age 14 to 26..that seems normal to me: I was astonished how quickly my prescription kept getting worse in only a few years. At this last exam, my script only changed -.25 in one eye and the other stayed the same.. so glad I could blame pregnancy. Now I have to damage control so my script doesn’t get any worse 🥲
    The red light therapy is interesting!! The last year I’ve been using red LED lights to help with sleep and natural melatonin production…I am not sure if this is the reason for my script not changing much the last year but it’s definitely something for me to research more 😊
