Wait then how does my vision blur when i look at my screen on my phone or laptop like i have glasses now my mom said because i look at the phone it hurts my eyes also i have a red spot what causes the eye tired is it because of my phone because i dont blink as much?
I have used minus lens -1.5 on both eyes (myopia glasses) for over 25 years; stopped using minus and started using plus lens (reading glasses); and now my eyes are fixed, no more myopia; reading DR saying this is impossible piss me off... Minus lenses can induce more myopia; in fact, there are even lenses that are weaker on the side to induce lens myopia in children... There are many studies in animals where putting on a minus lens causes myopia, and removing the minus lens makes the eyes go back to normal. It's pretty clear what the stimulus minus has in the eyes... and the doctor is 100% sure that glasses (minus lenses) don't make myopia worse?! This makes me sad... The brain washing is so strong that even Dr. doesn't understand what minus does to the eyes...
So to make sure I understand you right, you should use a lens that make your eyesight worse so that you train your eye like a “muscle” so when you remove your lens your eyesight improves because your eyes adapt?
@@FD-ub4vl Eyes lengthen to adapt to a lot of near vision work such as being indoors and being in front of screens all the time. It's called Axial Length. When doing only distant vision the eyes automatically shrink back to their normal rounder shape, it's a very minimal difference. When wearing glasses there is no need for the eyeballs to go back to normal.
Totally agree and I am proof of this as well. Started at Left -7.75 Right -6.25. Started wearing L -6.0 and R -4.5. Now 7 years later and many more glasses reductions I am at least L -5.5 and R -4.5. Maybe even better. Myopia is reversible. Such nonsense here. Thank you for sharing!
@@merlot4276 since I’ve stopped wearing glasses (they started me on -0.5/-0.75 my first glasses then some years after I needed and got -1/-1.25 I wear the glasses but then stopped and went to an optics (several) and had the same (didn’t progress) and now I’m definitely getting better not just stable. Prob a -0.25 difference if I wear the first glasses and I see 20/20 just by being outside more taking breaks from phone screen usage and doing “active focus” - myopia is definitely reversible I was skeptical at first but I can say from experience IT IS. And it might really just be LENS INDUCED - there are some valid theories but then you think… everyone is just WRONG and the whole industry is built on a lie?
I was a national level competitor for some time in a shooting sport discipline. You commonly engage targets anywhere from arms reach to 50 meters away and everything in between. It was time and accuracy focused. Fast and accurate wins. I read an article from an olympic shooter about eye exercises. You were doing some of them in your video. I always felt really good afterward. I felt the same after I would do a good long distance run, that exercise high you get. To me, it felt as if it did help, especially numerous quick transitions back and forth, near to far, etc. I would certainly appreciate your extrapolation of this. These days, I do these exercises at work every now and again. The eye strain from a computer feels greatly diminished. Thank you o/
Hey thanks! This brings up a very good topic that I have not covered on the channel. There is a niche in the eye care world called Sports Vision. Which is legit training that professional athletes will go through to train the eyes and coordination based on how you can see. I know of pro hockey teams, baseball teams and even boxers who go through this training. Many pro teams have their own eye doctors who work for them. Kinda nuts. Maybe I can get a doc who specializes in it to help me do a video.
My non medical background says the villain in eye issues begins with reduced blood flow to all places where nutrients and the operating vasodilation of the blood supply is required…look at “metabolic syndrome and inflammation.” BTW, love your very informational podcasts. Bob, former long distance runner.
I had lasik 20 years ago. And a few years ago I got glasses again. I could see 20/20 without glasses, but 20/15 with glasses, I wore them simply when at the computer. I could see fine without glasses, but see better with glasses. My vision slightly worsened and I went to get a new prescription and new glasses. My new prescription hurt my eyes, at first but I still only wore them at the computer. Now, a month later, I simply can not see anything without glasses that 1 month ago I could still see. Road and business signs are now unrecognizable. That isn't a distorted memory of simply "not seeing as well without glasses" it's a blurry fact that my eyesight has drastically shifted for the worse over the last month.
Glasses when used for anything other than distance viewing will make your eyes worse. If you can see a computer screen fine without glasses, wearing glasses is putting a strain on the eyes. The eyes compensate by changing shape making you more myopic. Myopia when it reaches above say -5, can lead to a detached retina and risk of early cataracts.
Yeah me too. 8 weeks and my eyesight is a lot better especially when I go outside and look into the distance on a sunny day for 2 hours a day. But my eyesight is not so good at night.
Yeah for sure glasses for short-sightedness do make your vision worse when used for close up work. After several months of not wearing my glasses as much as possible my prescription has gone from L -2.50, R -2.75 to -2.25 in both and my eyesight's still improving. Will buy some cheap glasses with -2.00 in a few months if it carries on :)))

Yo doc, can you tell is there is a way to get from eye power -3.5 to 0.75? I did not go outside as much and saw devices to I developed near sight. I want to remove my glasses and make it back clear. Is it possible?
The third myth was the reason why mom believed I started wearing glasses as a kid 😂😂. She used to tell me all the time to stop being so close to the TV.
Wait then how do i have eye strain or is it tired eyes because when i watch on my phone my mom doesnt let me because it will hurt my eyes and the red spot will be redder
I really appreciate the way you communicate as someone in the sciences; medical sciences; the cutting edge, etc. You have a very humble, yet informative delivery that works with the literature to this date.
The biggest myth that I heard was that if you make eye contact with any person wearing glasses, you would need to wear glasses after some time. In other words, the eye power would “transfer” from that bespectacled person to you, even if you stare only once or twice! This was so weird but so pervasive that many adults believed them wholeheartedly. Some still do. 🤷
I used to have -1.00 (for far distance) but the past few months I would have headaches like crazy or even throw up. My dad would say things like "you are spending too much time on your phone" etc. Last month I figured out that even with the glasses I couldn't see the letters on tv which made me skeptical and I started asking the people next to me whether they can or cannot see sth that I couldn't see. Turns out it increased to -2.5 and I got new glasses. I decided to learn more about my eyes and how to use my glasses properly etc. Even though english is not my 1st language your channel is extremely helpful and you pronounce the words so clearly that its easy for me to understand. I actually hope to see a video on how to clean the skeleton of the glasses (the corners etc aside from the lenses) in case you know how to do that and can do that. :))
@@savvasgamingchannel5062 I can't watch TV without glasses because I can't see. My lenses block blue light and no matter how many hours I spend on my phone my eyes don't get tired.
In old cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions, several layers of shielding worked together to block most of the X-rays emitted from the tube before they could reach the viewer. However, while these shielding measures were effective in significantly reducing X-ray exposure, they didn't eliminate it entirely. Studies from the era suggest that even with proper shielding, some low-level X-ray leakage could still occur, especially at very close viewing distances.
Basically the X-rays that may be emitted by CRTs are hundreds of times less than the background radiation in the environment. So the idea that CRTs will cause radiation poisoning or cancer is ridiculous.
Myopia glasses make everything apear closer to the eye, equivalent to not being outdoors and looking at a distance... Something associated with worse astigmatism as you said, so why is that glasses don't make eyesight worse???!!!
12:09 There are studies of infrared light and benefits on vision, the Sun is a massive source of infrared light. Incandescent light bulbs also have this healthier light. 14:30 Carnosine is an antiglycating agent reducing AGEs along with being an antioxidant.
I don't think he understands that natural sunlight balances the blue with lots of near infrared that counters the oxidative stress of the blue light. Modern led lighting has no NIR to balance the blue, so there is more oxidative stress in the eyes.
@@banginghats2 Your comment brought me back here to learn/be reminded from myself. I've realized things need to be repeated to be remembered, I don't really remember writing the comment but it's accurate, I haven't changed my thoughts. Although I don't have the details in my mind right now, I think green plants don't reflect much blue or UV light so it's better to be in those areas. .
Very close computer screen distance forces the eyes to focus at the near point of convergence. This sustained stare puts stress on the vision system. Over time, it may reduce the eyes' ability to quickly change focus between near and far objects. The extent of long-term impact on the eyes' focusing ability from regular computer use is still an area of ongoing research. Additionally, while the evidence is less conclusive, some studies suggest blue light might affect the ciliary muscle's function, potentially contributing to fatigue and difficulty focusing.
I absolutely love all your videos! I do have a question. You mention that staring at the sun will damage your eyes, but what about looking at the sunset? By that time the sun is red and not as strong. Thanks for all you do!
Thanks for asking, I think this is a good question. A sunset still poses a risk. But yes, the light is dampened by the atmosphere and may not cause as much or as fast of damage. Still not recommended to stare very long or directly at it. But I will try to remember this question when I do a video on watching solar eclipse.
I still get patients that tell me they've been told they can't wear contacts because they have astigmatism. It must be older doctors telling them that...
@@savvasgamingchannel5062 not true if that were true then why do people that have never worn glasses before still have astigmatism? astigmatism only means that the surface of the eye is not perfectly spherical the VAST majority of people have some non-zero amount of astigmatism
@@Akira-jd2zr I didn't say glasses is the only cause of astigmatism. Astigmatism is when the eye becomes elongated in a certain direction, becoming slightly egg shape. The eye changes shape according to the stimulus it receives. When you wear glasses the centre of the eye has a magnified image. The area outside the rims of the glasses is unmagnified.
@@savvasgamingchannel5062 nope wrong again There are two causes of astigmatism: corneal or lenticular meaning it's either the cornea or the lens that is not spherical in shape. Astigmatism has nothing to do with the eye elongating and IS NOT caused by glasses. It's myopia that can be exacerbated by glasses...not astigmatism...
I wore glasses since I was 14 years old n the prescription got higher...at 30 I decided to reverse it..I told my optometrist that I wanted a lower prescription..and every time I went to make new glasses I asked to prescription to be lowered gradually..and my eyesight was trained to adjust to the lower prescription..
So jow is it that I can read things better, if I haven't worn my glasses for a day, whilst after a day wearing them, I NEED them to see even remotely clear. And why is it that I have to move higher dioptric glasses by the end of some days, but it's enough to move the lighter glasses, if I have NOT worn them the whole day. This is within a few days. Please explain how this is not making it "worse".
Hey thanks for asking. To be honest, I don't fully understand what you are trying to explain. Also, I may not be able to fully explain what's happening without giving a full eye exam. Your eye doctor should be able to elaborate considering these factors, Age, Manifest and Cycloplegic Refractions, Amplitude of Accommodation, Near Point Convergence, pupil size and Vergence Ranges. Wish I could be of more help.
A friend of mine was wearing incredibly thick lenses all his childhood and had really bad vision, it was not until he was grown up he stopped using glasses out of vanity and found out he could see better without the glasses after a while of not wearing them and cut them out completely. His vision slowly got better and better, now he do not need glasses at all... I have heard many similar stories, people can get "addicted" to using the wrong prescription glasses and temporarily end up seeing worse without the wrong glasses making them believe they need glasses, but in the long term they see better without glasses at all.
Good for your friend but im the opposite I didn’t want to wear glasses because they fogged up from masks at work, my vision has not gotten one iota better. I wish!
Funny how once you are on the glasses train you usually get stronger and stronger prescriptions. Theory being that as the vision gets accommodated by the stronger lens the muscles get weaker and on and on.
I know it can seem that way, but the ciliary body inside the eye is a smooth muscle and does not change tone with use/exercise. The powers of the eye are more likely to become nearsighted during the first 25 years of life and then after that, there is a trend to become more farsighted and lose your ability to see up close - this shift in the later years of life occur due to crystalline lens changes inside the eye.
@@DoctorEyeHealth Thank you for the response. Personally as a child I had cross eyes, so glasses were used to help to get the eyes to conform. So I was already on the path before they did 2 corrective surgeries 60 years ago. I ended up with +7.5and +8. My neighbour of a similar age was prescribed glasses decades ago, but went the exercise route, and has never worn glasses since. The concept being as you know you are not affecting the muscles within the eyes, but rather the muscles that affect eye control, which can "squash" the eye to improve the focal length. This may be bogus, but it worked for him. It is part of his daily routine.
@@DoctorEyeHealthOh look at yOu, answering comments @7a (Eastern; don't know where you are). I've got a question that might be common to others: At almost 67yo and nearsighted since elementary school, I somehow don't need glasses for presbyopia. I always order very thin frames with single vision for the myopia, and look under the frames to see up close. Another person I know looks _over_ hers, nearsighted as well. When at home, I don't wear any glasses at all. Background: I'm 20/400L 20/200R with huge floaters in my better eye (grrrr; why couldn't it have been the other?!), and I found you while researching the brand new floaters last year. Excellent. And thanks! Could you shed some light? So weird.

I agree with your first sentence. I doubt the sentence as the Doc does below your comment. That said I must state weaker prescriptions have apparently improve my myopia by 3.5 diopters and even helped to some extent with accommodation. Meaning I only need bifocals not trifocals. And yes this may only dismissed as eye lense aging but the effect is also driven by lense choice . Further, I hate plastic lenses and wish for the tempered glass lenses on my early adult years & prior. I started as very myopic and still am quite myopic. I believe myopia is driven by early reading, lack of UV-b (full sunlight) and carbohydrate rich diet. There clear research on the close work issue and the preservation of distance vision per the US Air Force.

11:38 We are so grateful for vision therapy. Our daughter was only using a very small part of her vision. In three months her peripheral vision expanded by 80%. As a result of this increase, her awareness of surroundings has changed substantially. I’m benefiting because she has the ability now to play table tennis 🏓 since she is now visually aware. ~ Steve
As a continued follow up, she has just began driving. This would not have been possible months ago as she was unaware of what was around her. Even riding a bike or walking in a crowd was stressful for me as I watched her navigate her surroundings. My wife and I are so thankful.
I dont know about the myth but what I know is that with minus 5, I only use them to drive and to work on screens and I roll my eyes when people with less than that say they are almost blind without glasses...If you rely too much on your glasses with a low to medium prescription, when you dont have them, you will feel much more insecure
I sometimes walk around my apartment and clean and things without my glasses too. I am also about a minus 5.50. If anything, it helps me appreciate the vision I can see with glasses/contact lenses.
Interesting, can you do a video addressing the high anecdotal testimony accounts of people who fast, who end up needing a lesser strength script, or lose their glasses? What would you suspect was the main mechanism behind this? Placebo? Autoohagy?
Every time I went to the eye doctor after school, my prescription went up. I was wearing distance glasses all day, including at the computer and had terrible headaches. Once I stopped wearing glasses at the computer and went to the eye doctor in the morning, my eye doctor was shocked that my prescription kept going down and down. I barely need distance glasses now. In my left eye I went from -2.5 to -.75. I do follow some of the end myopia groups ideas because I absolutely did not need glasses. It was something eye doctors seemed to be doing to sell me new glasses with a stronger prescription not because I needed them. So distance glasses absolutely were making my vision worse. I didn't need them.
Hey thanks for sharing this. I have a hard time thinking that any doctor would purposefully overcorrect someone to try and sell glasses ( but sadly we know there are some rotten people out there). If you were indeed overcorrected, it was likely because the doctor did not use any form of cycloplegia (eye drop we use to stop your inner eye muscle from over-accommodating), in addition to a few other factors. Either way though, glad you eventually got things figured out.

there might be something wrong about the assumption of Eyes exercises. There is in fact some exercises that existe after someone got a stroke / CVA. those exercises are meant for the brain to recognise patern not for the eye to heal.
Yes..I also heard about that! It's a good thing to know! I saw a video where Elon Musk showed us the eye exercises he does to stimulate the frontal part of his brain he calls his Creative Brain! So there is definitely something to gain through Eye Exercises! Have a great week glitchydust..😊..🇨🇦
Preach brother-preach! So much truth in one video. I hope people listen to your words and realize the truth of what you are saying! Thank you for another lesson in the realities of the lies of the mythologies which dominate the internet for profit. God bless you, your family, and your future successes!
Incredible to say that glasses dont make your eyesight worse, where as you obviously know that overprescription happened and still happens a lot, and overprescription for myopia for example forces the eye to "elongate" more and more thus causing a stronger myopia. I agree that perfectly adjusted glasses wont necesseraly make your eyes worse (it wont make them better neither because you need your eyes to work a little bit) but overprescription (which was a common thing 10 years ago) can absolutely destroy your vision.
Part : "Eye exercices to improve eyesight" if you are to debunk a myth, you have to conduct the experiment yourself (not necessarily on you) and then bring your results. Saying that the experiment is easy to do and there should have been studies on the subject but there aren't, isn't proving anything, or it proves that the eyeglasses industry has absolutely no interest at all for people improving their eye sight.
No mention of mono-vision as an alternative to prevent loss of near vision with LASIK or other refractive surgeries (PRK and RK). I was in my mid-40s when I had refractive surgery for myopia in ‘96. I thought it would be a very bad trade off to walk in having perfect near vision and blurry distance vision, only to walk out with the opposite: great distance vision while forfeiting my great near vision for blurry near vision. No thank you! The solution was mono-vision. I left one eye near-sighted. It’s worked brilliantly for me from the start. And I’ve never had depth perception issues that are claimed with mono-vision. I jumped horses and needed to gage how much to lengthen or shorten the stride as I approached a jump. Horses have a 12-foot stride, but I had no issue gaging the jump distances whatsoever. I love my mono vision! It’s worked brilliantly.
Every once in a while I can "see" my pulse in my eyes. My optomotrist thinks I'm a little crazy, but it's there. Have you ever experienced this? Is it something to be concerned about? It's hard to describe, but there is pressure with just a slight change in focus for every beat. Never lasts more than half a minute. Thanks
Like the eye pulses itself? I have this sometimes it's do do with the jelly in the back of the eye apparently it changes throughout the years mine flashes also
Great and very informative video :). However i cant agree that glasses does not worsen vision. As I (and a lot of people confirm) once you get into glasses you never get rid of them. I have seen friends developing nearsightendess at their 30's when eye theoretically is developed and should not grow. In addition there are some prominent therapies to improve eyesight like light photonic therapy that can improve eyesight but i dont see optical community interested in it sadly.
If you need glasses to begin with, your eyes will worsen regardless of whether or not you wear them. When I was younger I disregarded my prescription because my vision wasn’t that bad and I felt that I couldn’t be as attractive with glasses. Long story short, my myopia continued to progress over the years. Until I could no longer avoid the inevitable. It’s a myth that glasses damage your vision.
Yes! Blue/Green lights diffract (or spread out) differently. So they are harder to read/see clearly. Blue light also scatters more inside the eye causing worse glare. I have the same issue on my stove clock.
Now thats what happened. Our family we do not have any eye issues but my daughter could not see that anymore and needed glasses. During the pandemic she was just using her phone and never went out. Now i know why she can no longer see well.
I had bifocals for the very first time in my 40s and didn’t really keep up on my eye health before this. I noticed my prescription and frames were all wrong. The frames were tight all around n the prescription was very sharp to where it would strain my eyes to focus. I’d also see a weird border of light around things. I had my prescription reduced slightly and I changed to better fitting frames. I’ll know in another week if this helped

Hey! it is a tough decision for sure, hopefully this recorded livestream will help you better understand your options : ua-cam.com/users/liveY7LYIEtfW5Y
I’ve worn glasses for 12 years, and my vision has steadily needed higher prescriptions. The only time I didn’t need an up was when I was wearing my older pair of glasses instead of the newest pair….this makes me think, yes, that glasses do increase your prescription. Glasses hold your eyes in one constant state, but your eyes naturally fluctuate all the time so that holding slowly causes more and more and more eye strain. I got this from my own experience and Dr Bates book Perfect eyesight without Glasses. I highly recommend it.
Prescriptions can totally ruin your eyesight. The topic is quite complex, but I have years of wearing prescriptions that are bad for me, they can change the shape of your face, not to mention the damage that could be caused to the eye muscles and soft tissues.
i think eyeglass really makes our eyes worst. In my opinion, since using the eyeglass makes your vision normal but still not fixed the root cause of the problem like too much screen time or what not. hence it will deteriorate again. rinse and repeat.
This video was really helpful. Thank you for sharing. I had an experience with eye yoga and it didn't save me from glasses. I must say however that since I started using glasses my eyes got lazier and don't focus as fast as they used to when I first started using glasses. I decided to wear them only when it's absolutely necessary.
couple of questions.. - does wearing glasses with poor optical quality has any impact on eye health? for eg. lens with low ABBE value, or lens without anti-reflective coating. - is it better to wear sunglasses with UV365 protection (not full range UV400) or not wearing any glasses at all and squint my eyes instead.. lets say UV400 lens isnt an option. (I'm asking this because there are CR-39 lens that can be custom tinted, but its more like raw lens with no uv protection coating, and CR-39 materials only offer protection up to UV365)
My prescription is high and I was even told to wear bifocals which are awkward to use so I don't have them but I don't need glasses except to see some detail from a distance and maybe while sitting on a chair at a computer on a desk 1-2 feet away. I'm typing this on a mobile without wearing glasses because the glasses bother me if I look at mobile screen wearing them. I read without glasses. I'm over 55.
That can be true! Usually we don't see much of a change in glasses prescriptions after cataract surgery - people often only come back when they start having a problem (which is sadly more advanced disease at that point).
I had LASIK and it only lasted for about 3 years... My nearsightedness came back and my diopter is almost half of what it was before LASIC which was pretty bad as in legally blind bad.... So Lasik does not always last and is not always the answer! I did not have astigmatism prior to LASIK. I have astigmatism now that is debilitating without correction... As in I can't see anything or read signs or see words... It causes double vision...
I can say that I do have the blue light stuff in my prescription glasses but that’s because I have a retinal disorder and that it’s important for me to keep my eyes as healthy as possible for as long as possible, because without the blue light protection my red nose would be even worse than they are, and once upon the body is only detached, but dead there’s no put it back in well. I know im commenting on a 3 month old video and hope to get a reply. "Does your eye power change or worsen if you don't wear/use your prescription glasses for a long time (2-6hrs) especially outdoors". Cause ive been told that its not a good thing to use your eyes without my glasses, so i only remove them while sleeping or using the bathroom. My current power is close to -4 in both and i hope to get a reply from you, i really wanna know if this is a fact or myth.
Hey thanks for the question! There are studies that show if someone is nearsighted and refrains from wearing correction, they tend to advance in their myopia faster (studies on young children). Usually the eyes stop or at least slow in their growth in your early 20s. In most adults, once the eye has stopped growing, not wearing correction for 2-6 hours per day may not increase the eyes power or “make them worse”, but obviously they wouldn’t see as well in the distance without the correction. Hope that helps!
@@DoctorEyeHealth Ohh well I'm 25 so I shouldn't have more myopia progression then if the eye as stopped growing? And I did an eye exam last year and my myopia was the same...
My prescription is -7.25 left and -7.00 right. I ordered new glasses online via “tendaglasses”, with -6.00 every high, and same cylinder. It’s been 4 months but I don’t have any improvement. What can I do? Is it waste of time?😢
@@DoctorEyeHealth because I watched videos that says that I can lower my diopters numbers and fix my nearsightedness by buy glasses with lower diopters and get my eyes adapted, and over time I can get rid of my glasses without surgery. I was so hopeful that this will work
hmmm, no I don't think so. But that's a good idea! In short, oil ducts can atrophy, Tear film becomes unstable and the corneal surface becomes exposed and starts to become damaged. Risk for corneal ulcers and infection can occur, new membranes can grow on the conjunctiva making it hard to open/blink the eye properly, and then finally scarring of the cornea.
@@DoctorEyeHealth thank you. Eye Drs don't seem concerned about not lubricating. I have chosen to do anyways. Think mine is caused from CPAP therapy. Never had eye issues prior.
Seems incredibly naive to assume that constant eye strain from repeating any of these habits would be risk free Also note complete lack of citations and studies examined
What about wearing multi focus reading glasses to be able to see your close work jobs and you wear them all the time because you just see better. I can even drive in those. It’s crazy.
I got new glasses for my aging myopic eyes and initially couldn't read up close for a month or so due to presbyopia, but they worked great for distance vision and I could read fine without glasses so I was happy. But slowly with the new prescription my eyes came to be able to read close up even with presbyopia wearing the new glasses at the same time my far vision got worse. Went to the optician and they recommend a new even stronger prescription which I balked at thinking my eyes couldn't have gotten worse in a few months. So I decided to stop wearing my new glasses inside and slowly my far distance came back. I'm sure my wearing my new glasses inside were habituating me to being more nearsighted akin to some sort of pseudo myopia...
It shouldn't, I had my eyes dilated like 2x a week during my second year of optometry school lol. but If you spend a lot of time outside it would be wise to wear UV blocking sunglasses as a larger pupil will let in more sunlight.
Love your videos but I have one question if glasses doesn’t make your eyes worse, why do you need a higher prescription every time you go see your eye doctor?
I have been told I need expensive UV 420 coating on my new lenses by 2 eye Drs now, I have also been told rubbing my eyes will make my Astigmatism worse, I dont really trust any of the eye Drs in my area anymore
Yes I had eye glasses. One for close up views, which for astigmatism, I had and other glasses for long view distancing. Over 20 years, my other long distance glasses fell apart. So I stuck to using the close up close glasses. Soon this exercised my eyes, and thus these glasses worked for both close up view, and long distance. Eventually these plastic glasses too also plastic frames fell apart. So I replaced the frames for $19.99. I bought two frames, just is case. I fell asleep and crushed the gasses when waking up and accidentally stepping on them, and they were damaged. The lenses and the metal parts were okay, so I removed four screws to remove the plastic parts and replaced them with the new $19.99 ones. So over 44 years, it only cost me $19.99 x2.
My eyesight also was stable until this pandemic and online study, and I was also spending my a lot time to screens after those my eyesight jumped so high and now waiting it stabilize😭
Oh yeah? I appreciate that. I just noticed a lot of people left the videos during the intro so I stopped using it. I have thought of making a super short one - I have seen some other channels do that.
Interesting point about having eyes checked, even when your sight is ok, because the health behind the eye may not be ok!!!! Nobody ever says or explains that???
I need a 3.00 in my contacts for astigmatism but the dailies don't seem to go higher than 2.25. The reusable ones just aren't very comfortable in the desert.
Unfortunately, we do not have any ways to reverse the cataracts without surgery at this time. However some people do appreciate good eyesight despite cataracts and may never need cataract surgery. Best ways to slow down/prevent cataract formation includes eating healthy (lot's of antioxidants), shielding the eyes from harsh sunlight (sunglasses and hats), and don't smoke/drink.
As someone who has needed glasses his entire conscious life, I'm so tired of hearing that whole "glasses make your eyes worse" myth from people who needed glasses for the first time in their teenage or adult years. Refusing to wear glasses or contacts won't make your eyes better!
Yes I do have a question. Similar to one on the video, but reversed: would people with very low levels of astigmatism (e.g. CYL < 1.0) benefit from eye surgery? Some decades ago I remember hearing that eye surgery was in fact not recommended for those with small enough prescriptions (but I never knew how small exactly,) because the eye surgery itself had some "delta" accuracy/error risk. So at least back then, for those with very small prescriptions, the results of laser surgery could end up requiring in fact a slightly higher prescription. One other question: is it really possible to measure astigmatism manually at home, without going to an optometrist/optician? I've seen some methods online rotating small lines drawn in a 90º angle. I can confirm I can easily verify that my Axis is ok for my eye with higher astigmatism (CYL -1.50) but for small astigmatism levels (e.g. CYL -0.25) it seems to me both the Axis, and specially the Cyl value even for the higher CYL eye are incredibly difficutl if not impossible to even get close to or in any reliable enough ballpark, by trying by myself with such diy methods at home.
Great Video, i had to laugh at some points. Because, i have to answer many of exakt these question. As a non doctor, i have to send so many people to the next eye doctor
Thank you for your videos! Can you explain why a child with myopia eye's worsen if they do not get glasses? I thinking I understand why regular lenses make myopia worse, BUT why does NOT getting glasses make it worse? Our pediatrician told us wearing or not wearing glasses would not make our child's eyes progress; only that glasses help one see better.
Really good questions!! Red light therapy is super interesting and I’m prepping a whole CE lecture in it (along with a few videos), Lutein is great and I take it myself, good for retinal health, brain health and even prevention of cataracts.
Spectacles for correcting myopia do create hyperopic defocus on the peripheral retina, and that actually makes myopia progress faster. Same reason as being indoors, reading in dim light, working upclose, using digital devices, etc speed up myopia progression, the stimuli or in this case the lack of it on the peripheral retina affects how the eye develops.
OOoh good topic! I know there is some eye color changing surgery trending right now so perhaps I should review all of that. Short answer is No, I would not trust the eye color changing drops.
For the extraocular muscles perhaps. But for the focusing system I personally think it is more of neural control, because the ciliary body and iris muscles inside the eye are made of smooth muscle and cannot be actively trained like skeletal muscle can.
Somehow I’ve developed astigmatism (probably) where it just looks like everyone is driving with their lights on. It’s almost blinding. It kinda happened out of nowhere a year ago or less. Otherwise my vision doesn’t seem blurry but now I’m starting to wonder. I do live video streams 2x per week and I have a lot of bright lights shining in my face. Is this causing damage to my eyes? Did I cause this astigmatism??? I have a ring light on my face, my monitor brightness turned all the way up, and I lean my living room lamp so that it’s pointing right at my face. I have the TV on, and I also have another lamp shining right at my face. It makes for a really good picture. But I wonder if this is causing actual damage. And if so, I’m not sure what to do. Thing is, sometimes my eyes kinda burn when I’m streaming, but NOW that same burn can kinda be felt after driving at night. The same exact feeling. So now I’m worried..
Probably you have dry eyes. Because of screen time & , your eyes are burned, light sensitive and blurred vision. You need to see a local eyes doctor asap. My eyes had those symptoms and yes turned out I have myopia( both) and astigmatism ( one eye) and severe dry eyes. Don’t wait too long as dry eyes get worse if you don’t manage it. And hopefully your eyes are fine.

@@FD-ub4vl
Eyes lengthen to adapt to a lot of near vision work such as being indoors and being in front of screens all the time.
It's called Axial Length.
When doing only distant vision the eyes automatically shrink back to their normal rounder shape, it's a very minimal difference.
When wearing glasses there is no need for the eyeballs to go back to normal.
how did you use + lenses and were able to just go around seeing like that and how long did the correction take? Very skeptical tbh

My non medical background says the villain in eye issues begins with reduced blood flow to all places where nutrients and the operating vasodilation of the blood supply is required…look at “metabolic syndrome and inflammation.”
BTW, love your very informational podcasts.
6 weeks no glasses my vision is way better now!!! explain that plz if glasses don't make eyes worse????
Same! Glasses and near work always make my vision worse.
Sounds like a case of the placebos

Additionally, while the evidence is less conclusive, some studies suggest blue light might affect the ciliary muscle's function, potentially contributing to fatigue and difficulty focusing.
focusing on anything close to you for a long time is bad, it doesnt matter if its a book or screen
Your astigmatism is caused by wearing glasses or is made worse by wearing glasses.
@@savvasgamingchannel5062 not true
if that were true then why do people that have never worn glasses before still have astigmatism?
astigmatism only means that the surface of the eye is not perfectly spherical
the VAST majority of people have some non-zero amount of astigmatism
@@Akira-jd2zr I didn't say glasses is the only cause of astigmatism. Astigmatism is when the eye becomes elongated in a certain direction, becoming slightly egg shape. The eye changes shape according to the stimulus it receives. When you wear glasses the centre of the eye has a magnified image. The area outside the rims of the glasses is unmagnified.
@@savvasgamingchannel5062 nope wrong again
There are two causes of astigmatism: corneal or lenticular meaning it's either the cornea or the lens that is not spherical in shape. Astigmatism has nothing to do with the eye elongating and IS NOT caused by glasses.
It's myopia that can be exacerbated by glasses...not astigmatism...
Loved watching you cross your eyes, thank you for clearing up the risks 😅
I wore glasses since I was 14 years old n the prescription got higher...at 30 I decided to reverse it..I told my optometrist that I wanted a lower prescription..and every time I went to make new glasses I asked to prescription to be lowered gradually..and my eyesight was trained to adjust to the lower prescription..
I tried this and it did nothing... My eyesight continued to worsen I just walked around with blurry or vision with the weaker glasses for 7 years.

I wish!
Sounds like he had a shitty optician that gave him a wrong prescription.

I believe you because my daughter went to the eye dr because she had myopia . She gave her prescription my 13 year old said when she takes off her glasses it’s so bad she can’t see like before she was able to see with out glasses. Today we went for other appointments I refused some kind of picture taken I have to pay from my pocket last year they said to check if she has any eye pressure. I am in medical field but don’t know about any eye exam when I think about it my daughter is healthy don’t have any medical problems that’s why I refuse. The dr said today ohh it’s to check her retinol it’s free the insurance pays just I have to put eye drops I said okay . We want to check for glass she put all kind extra I have to pay 349 from my pocket. I requested the proscriptions when we want to see her after eye drops she was in a lot attitude my kids said she looks angry. She said my daughter retina is getting thinner she said it’s not new . I asked her you didn’t said that a year ago what is the cause. She said sometimes proscription that means maybe she didn’t have a good proscription so sad as a mother to see that

there might be something wrong about the assumption of Eyes exercises.
Thank you thank you for doing this video. Working in the industry so many of these are so frustrating when people won’t listen even lol
So very true! Glad you liked the video!
Preach brother-preach!
So much truth in one video.
I hope people listen to your words and realize the truth of what you are saying!
Thank you for another lesson in the realities of the lies of the mythologies which dominate the internet for profit.
God bless you, your family, and your future successes!
Really appreciate that! Thank you

One thing that does give you eye "Superpowers" is bilberry extract. Bomber pilots of WW2 swore by it to improve night vision.
Is it a myth that whenever a UA-camr says they're going to put the link to a prior video down in the description that they never actually do it? 🤔🤷♂❓
I’d say that more than 99% of the ads on social networks (including YT) are complete bs.
Thank you for this video!!
You are very welcome!! Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you Dr. Allen for the Myth Busters!!
Hi doc,
I'm having scars in my right cornea. Can it be healed, or should I do cornea transplantation?
Every once in a while I can "see" my pulse in my eyes. My optomotrist thinks I'm a little crazy, but it's there. Have you ever experienced this? Is it something to be concerned about? It's hard to describe, but there is pressure with just a slight change in focus for every beat. Never lasts more than half a minute. Thanks
Like the eye pulses itself?
I have this sometimes it's do do with the jelly in the back of the eye apparently it changes throughout the years mine flashes also
Is it something like a floater? I was told it is normal to see them.

I meant syntonic light therapy.
Your eyes get worse with time,it's not the glasses fault.
I've got myopia and astigmatism BTW.
A very well done video with excellent information. Thank you doctor for clearing up some misinformation.
Can you confirm why at night i cant see green and blue light text, digits etc properly like led digits. It all looks like mixed together.
I'm going to have Cataract surgery soon My Dr says I have astigmatism and ask me if I want to have the lens which iss not covered by insurance which is $1500...He ask me that if I don't to send anymore money money it is ok not to have since I don't wear glasses only for reading smallest print. I'm confused if should opt for it. I'm 77 yrs old female. Thanks
Hey! it is a tough decision for sure, hopefully this recorded livestream will help you better understand your options : ua-cam.com/users/liveY7LYIEtfW5Y
Bates is Pseudoscience that doesn't work. Your whole idea of how the eyes work is based on false assumptions, and utterly wrong.
Thank you. That was great. I'm 54, wear glasses yet have good eyes. It's not as sharp as it once was. So I'm happy knowing I'm doing well where I am.
Can Glaucoma cause blindness, and how to reduce the chances of developing Glaucoma?
Turned 50 earlier... thanks for confirming that what I'm experiencing is normal aging and readers (+1.25 for me) are very safe to use.
Pls make a video for side effects of scleral lenses
Good idea! thanks
great video! thank u
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Also most people who have cataract surgery feel like they never have to go to the doctor again or need glasses
My retinal issue is the fact that my Redmans are slowly detaching and dying off, I have retinitspigmentosa also known as RP, and even when I have some vision left, I am slowly going blind will be completely blind someday already diagnosed legally blind. I forget exactly where I am with my number with vision flexes to a bit bum legal blind white cane, also known as the came for the blind in all kick was I was told that in my early to mid 80s before I was completely blind I was also told when I was diagnosed at 8 1/2 23 years ago this month actually that I wouldn’t be legally blonde until I was in my mid to late 30s I’m really in my early 30s movie 31 as in my 20s when I officially became legally buy and I was only 23. The deterioration was quite rapid for a small period of time, and to the point where it was not be able to be predicted that that was going to happen, but I can tell you the blue boy can affect those of us with retinal -based diagnoses, and can affect sleep to this right, even though it is almost 1:30 AM for me, I’m still Wideawake also suffered from sleeping issues to begin with connected to mental health issues, but the blue light does not help in Rankin. Is it healthy Isa I know I don’t have healthier it’s like I said before I’m going blind due to retinitis pigmentosa that’s not healthy eyes at least not what the average person would consider healthy eyes on this sound. These miss just left me shaking my head in disbelief I am I have never finished college but I did take some college. I have my high school diploma and I’ve got street smart and what is cold commonsense even though it actually isn’t that common and I am I have some learning struggles connected to autism, and my mom may not be the best mother out that is your mouth done. A lot of crazy things, but one thing she didn’t do was raise the fool.
@@DoctorEyeHealth thanks a lot for answering my questions and that too so fast you are amazing.
@@DoctorEyeHealth Ohh well I'm 25 so I shouldn't have more myopia progression then if the eye as stopped growing? And I did an eye exam last year and my myopia was the same...
I was told that contacts weren’t a good idea because I require a “prism” in my lenses. Are there any contacts for this?
My prescription is -7.25 left and -7.00 right. I ordered new glasses online via “tendaglasses”, with -6.00 every high, and same cylinder. It’s been 4 months but I don’t have any improvement. What can I do? Is it waste of time?😢
Why did you order a weaker power for your glasses?
@@DoctorEyeHealth because I watched videos that says that I can lower my diopters numbers and fix my nearsightedness by buy glasses with lower diopters and get my eyes adapted, and over time I can get rid of my glasses without surgery. I was so hopeful that this will work
@@RanNahum i think you should do more research then reduce the dipoters. i think myopia not being reversible is a myth.
Do you have a video on what happens if you don't treat dry eyes? If oil ducts are crystalized?
hmmm, no I don't think so.
Seems incredibly naive to assume that constant eye strain from repeating any of these habits would be risk free
Also note complete lack of citations and studies examined
The blue light one really annoys me cause I be seeing so many people talking about it everywhere and can't do anything to change their minds 😔💔
Does dilating your eyes multiple times in a year cause problems?
It shouldn't, I had my eyes dilated like 2x a week during my second year of optometry school lol. but If you spend a lot of time outside it would be wise to wear UV blocking sunglasses as a larger pupil will let in more sunlight.
Hi Dr. Allen
Thanks for your myth review.
What about active focus? What’s your opinions about endmyopia?
Is Nystagmus curable?
Most of the time, no. But depending on the type of nystagmus, glasses can dampen it.
Magnesium and thiamine might help.
And throw in fish oil and vitamin d because most people are low on those, you can get a blood test to check.
Thanks doc!
The pandemic ruined my eyes 😭☠
My eyesight also was stable until this pandemic and online study, and I was also spending my a lot time to screens after those my eyesight jumped so high and now waiting it stabilize😭

Is there anything I can do to heal my eyes from cataracts without doing surgery? Thankyou in advance for any reply!
Hello doctor,
do anxiety & depression medications cause blurry vision ?
Thanks,
They can contribute to dry eyes and change the pupil size. Which can cause fluctuations in eyesight and even blurred vision in more advanced cases.

Hi Dr. Allen, thanks for the info! What about red light therapy? Any benefits to that? And what about supplements like lutein? Thanks!
Really good questions!! Red light therapy is super interesting and I’m prepping a whole CE lecture in it (along with a few videos), Lutein is great and I take it myself, good for retinal health, brain health and even prevention of cataracts.
Dr Allen: Eyes normally move in unison but why can i cross my eyes but not make them both look outward at the same time?
Spectacles for correcting myopia do create hyperopic defocus on the peripheral retina, and that actually makes myopia progress faster. Same reason as being indoors, reading in dim light, working upclose, using digital devices, etc speed up myopia progression, the stimuli or in this case the lack of it on the peripheral retina affects how the eye develops.
How do you reverse it if you have myopia+ astigmatism
Please can you do a video on whether the eye colour changing drops are safe? Im not convinced they are - but cant find anything to support this
OOoh good topic! I know there is some eye color changing surgery trending right now so perhaps I should review all of that. Short answer is No, I would not trust the eye color changing drops.
my idea behind eye exercises is that it streches and strengthens the muscle
For the extraocular muscles perhaps. But for the focusing system I personally think it is more of neural control, because the ciliary body and iris muscles inside the eye are made of smooth muscle and cannot be actively trained like skeletal muscle can.
The truth is wearing eyeglass worse eyesight, from my experience start from -1.2, now -2.25,
Somehow I’ve developed astigmatism (probably) where it just looks like everyone is driving with their lights on.
What about increasing a prism prescription for crossed eyes only makes the crossing increase.
Iv had glasses 🤓 3 weeks I wear them part time, I can’t even read my phone when I could a month ago?!! WTH?!
