    I was told by my eye doctor during my last visit to thoroughly dry ur hands well after washing to avoid the tap water from getting into ur contacts. She said there’s fungus & bacteria in tap water that could cause an eye infection. But then there’s always traces of lint from the towel, so it’s always gonna be a battle no matter what lol.

    I've followed nearly all of these good habits since I first got my contact lenses as a teenager because one of my biggest fears as an artist is losing my eyesight. I didn't know you were supposed to rub the lenses when you clean them though. I only rinsed them because I didn't want to accidentally tear them, but I'll start gently rubbing them now. I had a substitute teacher in high school who told the class a story about how her son fell asleep in his contacts and they got stuck to his cornea and tore it, and he had to have surgery to remove them and repair his eyes. He ended up being nearly blind in one eye. It terrified me, so I never even thought about sleeping in contacts.

    Dr. Thank you. I fellow all theses. I do my best to clean mine properly. I was told by a retired optometrist that you should never fly in your contacts either. The reason is the pressurized air dries out your eyes more and it can cause redness in your eyes, and it can also make your eyes hurt. I'm sure you knew that cause you're a doctor but I didn't know that. I rotate between my glasses and my contacts. I wear monthways, so there are some time when I go a week with glasses. Just gives the eyes a break

    • @EyesExplained

      That is true! The air on planes can definitely dry your eyes and contacts. Best to stick with glasses for flying 👓

    I've worn soft contacts for over 40 years and most of that was with extended wear lenses. The reason I use extended wear (like everyone else I know) is so I can sleep in them and wake up to clear vision. Never had an issue.
    I prefer Acuvue Oasys as they seem to 'breathe' better. I've tried AirOptics but they didn't fit as well and would sometimes slide out of position.
    When I do change over to my glasses, as I needed to do when working in a compounding lab, I followed the disinfection procedures you recommend in the video. That's just how I was taught at the very beginning of contact use. I'm surprised by some of the comments here from people who evidently didn't know or never had disinfecting procedures explained to them upon their first RX!

    • @say94l
      @say94l 2 роки тому +1

      Hi, the extended wear is possible with some lenses but they should be recommended for that from the manufacturer and also your doctor should allow you to use this method. And you should check the time of wear, usually when you wear the lenses overnight, the time shrinks, so it would be a week for bi-weekly lenses and two weeks for monthly lenses (if the producer doesn't say any other recommendation).

    • @brianboston4744
      @brianboston4744 2 роки тому +1

      Hi i never had glasses/contacts before,but i'm getting both this week. My contacts will be 'monthly' contacts...are 'extended wear' more expensive? And can any eye prescription get 'extended' lenses?

    • @cpiper6338
      @cpiper6338 2 роки тому +1

      @@brianboston4744 You have to have a separate prescription (RX) for eyeglasses and contacts. If you request a contact lens RX, the optometrist can provide you with both a contact RX and a glasses RX.
      For the contacts, the doctor will prescribe certain brand/model of contacts depending on your eye measurements (base curve, diameter, sphere) and your requested usage. So be sure to tell him/her that you're wanting to try extended wear.
      Pricing for daily wear and extended wear are basically the same but you can save money by ordering online rather than buying from the optometrist. They have to give you the prescription that you've paid for but you're under no obligation to purchase from them and they usually charge much more.
      Also, if you have a membership at Costco, BJ's or Sam's Club, their prices are normally comparable to online pricing.
      The same thing applies to eyeglasses RX. You don't have to buy your glasses from the optometrist (be it Pearle Vision, Lenscrafters or Visionworks, etc.) but for your first pair, you will probably get a better fitting from them and they usually have a wide selection to choose from.

    • @brianboston4744
      @brianboston4744 2 роки тому +1

      @@cpiper6338 oh wow thank you for the info! One more question,if i decide to not buy from them,how do i 'transfer' or prove what prescription i need when i order from somewhere else? I know i cant just get prescription contacts without proving a doctor gave the ok for that prescription,do i tell the new website i order from to call my doctor or is that stuff in some medical portfolio for all doctors to read?

    • @cpiper6338
      @cpiper6338 2 роки тому

      @@brianboston4744 You are entitled to a copy of your eye exam prescription. If they don't offer you one, request it. Places like Pearle Vision, Lenscrafters, Visionworks, etc., make most of their profit from glasses and contact sales, so they tend to be overpriced (that's why they often offer a free eye exam). They're specially pricey on contacts. But they generally do a good job of helping you find a decent pair of glasses and fitting them properly. They also usually have lower priced brands available.
      Optometrists' offices normally charge more for contacts and glasses.
      My advice is to make an appointment with one of the eyewear franchises to get your eye exam and eyeglasses. Then take your contacts RX and order your lenses online. (As with buying anything else, shop around online to find the best pricing for the RX you have. Whether it's Acuvue, Air-Optics, etc.)

      It will be difficult to avoid water 100% of the time. If you are able to you can use some lubricating eye drops to flush out the eyes of contaminated water or replace the lens with a new one. If you can't, it's not the end of the world. In the end we can only try our best to minimise the risk of infections.

      I can only answer 1. You should never make your lens have the chance to touch water. Water is the worst thing that can come to contact with your lens. That amoeba lives in water and sticks to lenses and get into eyes that way. The infection caused by it can be extremely painful so don't.

  • @say94l

    Hi,
    I've been wearing lenses for abour 8 years now and I just found out that I'm doing two of these wrong.
    First - I sometimes sleep in my contacts, not often, but I wear lenses which are designed for continuous wear and my doc told me I can do it, when I need to sleep and I don't have my solution and case with me. I'm always trying to have it, but it's not always possible. Of course I always shorten the time I wear my lenses, if I have to sleep with them on.
    Second - I shower with my lenses. I wear them during the day and then in the evening, I take a shower and then I take them out, clean them and put to the case. When I wash my hair I don't wear them, because water gets to my eyes, but when it's only a shower without hair washing, the water doesn't get to my eyes at all.

    I used to put on my lenses before makeup, like suggested. But whenever I was applying eyeshadow tiny pieces of it went in my eye and with lenses, it would sting for a long time. Now I put on lenses after I'm finished with makeup and applied eye drop. With clean hands of course, I'm careful to not touch my lenses with the fingers that touched my face and makeup. Does that work?

    • @EnergizeOptimizeTV

      Your adjustment to putting on lenses after finishing your makeup routine makes perfect sense! 👁💄 It's crucial to prioritize eye comfort and avoid any stinging sensations. Applying eye drops before putting on your lenses can also help keep your eyes moisturized and comfortable throughout the day.
      Just be sure to maintain the habit of clean hands and avoiding any direct contact between your lenses and makeup-covered fingers. Sounds like you've found a routine that works for you! If you ever notice any discomfort or changes, don't hesitate to consult with your eye care professional. Here's to flawless makeup and comfortable lens wear! 😊🌟 💖👀

    I stopped wearing cintact lenses daily some months ago, and also only had done it for like 5 months or so. But except for most of the rubbing to clean and for the case care (I didn't as much as I should, I though that with just changing the liquid was enough) and also using my lenses for some time more than I should like 6h lenses for 8h or 1 month lenses for like 1/2 extra weeks. But I think that overall I did pretty good. Also, I preferred wearing glasses so, it was what I did as much as I could.
    Now if I comeback to lenses I'll know what to do :)

    If you have to overwear and have serious cornea problems there is no "just take it out" and no "just wear your glasses". Those are no options unfortunately, especially if you have to use specially made hard lenses. Deem yourself lucky if glasses correct your eye vision still. Be thankful, really.

    Question 1:
    After, a long day from work. I take out my eye contacts and put them in fresh solution. I take nap of 2 hrs before school. Can I still use the same solution when I’m off from school?
    Question 2: When I take off my eye contacts. And I just put them in their storage with clean solution.
    But, without rubbing them before. Then, the next day I rub them to disinfect them before putting them on.
    Is it okay? or do I need to rub them and disinfect before storing them everytime?

    I got a question, I have never worn glasses but I am slightly myopic. I can see my monitor screen well enough at 1 hand distance. If I ever get glasses, should I wear them while using the computer? Or should I remove them? The reason why I haven't gotten glasses is because it's not that bad but also because I read that once you start wearing glasses your eye sight can worsen and your myopia can change. For me, it hasn't changed in 10 years. Thanks!

      Generally, I would suggest that you should give your eyes a break from contact lenses. Whether that be 1 day a week, or when you get home, remove it and have a few hours without lenses to allow your eyes to breathe. It is a good idea to have a back up pair of glasses so you can use that at home or if you get an eye infection!

I keep my contacts and cases in a plastic open box in a cabinet next to my skincare etc. I always let the container and lids airdry in there but not upside down, because I don’t want the open parts touch the plastic box, and I figured there wouldn’t really get dust or dirt in them because the cabinet doors are mostly closed…. I don’t have a clean surface to keep the on top of…. I unfortunately do my skincare in the kitchen. Would this be okay? And how often do you clean the container you use for 3 months? Just a daily rinse and air dry? Or more thorough cleaning as well?

    I have question, a week ago, when i was changing my monthly contact lenses, i thought i wore my right eye lens. But a minute after i recognize that i didn't. I've searched everywhere but i couldn't find it anyway. Then i go to the school with shuttle, met with a friend before class an he said there is something shiny in your hair. Then he picked up the thing and we saw it was my lens. It was creased to two and dried. Then i put my tiny little miserable lens to my lens box has solution in it. After few hours, i checked it and saw that my lens was completely reshaped again. Then i bought another lens box at the same day and i put it in it with solution to keep it safe. My question is, can it be useable after a month? I sometimes change it's solution to keep it hygenic. My lens was newly opened and don't want to lose it. Thank you.

      Hello, I'm not Dr. Priscilla but I work as a customer support for a shop which sells contacts, and this is one of our most asked questions. No, you should not. The lense can be opened for 2 weeks, and it doesn't matter if you wear it only once or all the 14 days during this time. After 2 weeks pass, you should take a new pair. Some customers are trying to tell us, that it's limited by hours and when you wear them for just few hours a day, you can extend the time, but that is a lie too. Sad thing is that some of the eye doctors tell this to our customers and then they don't believe me when I tell them the truth.

      Lavendar Butterflies is right! You should dispose of them after 30 days of opening irregardless of how often you wear them. This is because the integrity of the contact lens is compromised over time. You can get microtears on the contact lens and that's the perfect environment for bacteria to nestle in and increase the likelihood of an infection.

    What is considered overwear ? Sometimes I work long days out of the house (8-10 hours) and cannot get home to take them out until 12-13 hours after I put them in!

    If i just bought a new contact lens, can i just wear the lens right out of the packaging that hv the solution in it? Or do i need to clean it out first or soak in the multipurpose solution first? what is the correct step to wear a new contact lens?

      Yes, you can wear it right out of the packaging. You only need to use multipurpose solution after you've taken it out and need to store it

      I think it's OK. Just rinse it out well with your solution.

    I ended up getting salt and water in my eyes while I had contact lenses on. Now my eyes are getting irritated by the contacts.

    It should be okay to wear contacts, shower, and take them off right after, right? Just need vision in the bathroom.

    Ive been considering contacts since im not a good Lasik candidate. Also it would be fun to change my eye color.

      It has been such a long time. I went back to the footage to check it out and I believe it is the Freshlook Colorblends in Brilliant Blue. Not 100% certain on the colour though. Hope that helps!
