- The complete new scenes with Peri and the Sixth Doctor in Tales of the TARDIS Episode 3 "Vengeance on Varos."
These scenes are intended to be bookends to the Classic Who serial "Vengeance on Varos." As the scenes are not available outside the UK, I have uploaded them to UA-cam for international fans. For the intended experience, watch "Vengeance on Varos" Episodes 1 and 2 at the cut.
Notably, the events of this episode of Tales of the TARDIS reference the mini-sode "The Eternal Mystery" created to promote Doctor Who: The Collection - Season 22. "The Eternal Mystery" is available on UA-cam.
Overly negative comments that are elitist or disrespectful to the original creators will be removed.
Colin truly loves playing the Doctor, as you can see here, he truly has a firm understanding of the character and it’s beautiful to see him being written respectfully, he felt more like the Doctor here than he did before.
Listen to some of his Big Finish stories. Especially the ones later on in 6's timeline. You get a lot more of this.
They just did not delvope the Sixth Doctor enough to warrent a longer stint. Still the days of Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee are gone. Pertwee was the second longest Doctor.
@@professorhaystacks6606 Okay I left this as a seperate comment, but like, what's going on here in relation to 6's Big Finish timeline? Like, this seems to imply its Peri and the Doctor's first time reuniting since "Trial of a Timelord," but the "Doctor and Peri" audio stories mean that can't possibly be true. Does this essentially de-canonize 6's audio stories? Also, how is the Doctor older here? Like, unlike old 5, they seem to be implying that 6 actually _GOT OLDER_ before regenerating into 7 (which we know is impossible from what's onscreen). Could it be this isn't actually 6, but is actually the 2nd Curator (since Tom Baker's Curator regenerates into an old Colin Baker in Big Finish canon)?
@@MrMarsFargo have not heard the big finish curator story. Maybe?
As for Peri, wasn't her timeline split or something in her last story? I haven't gotten to trial of a timelord yet in my watch through so I could be wrong.
The final fallback is 7s statement that there are versions of the 7th doctor here are from different time streams, so maybe that is true of 6 as well. And maybe the same is true for peri.
Old 6 is overall much easier than pero. Given how the other short bits don't contradict big finish directly this wrinkle is a bit of a bugbear.
@@MrMarsFargoPeri has a million different timelines. The Seven and Ace Tale also shows there's a multiverse going on.
I adore that Colin's Doctor, notorious for being one of the most abrasive and bad-tempered iterations of the character, gets to come back more akin to a time-travelling Santa Claus
A lot of his reputation was simply because the writing was doing him a big disservice. The Big Finish audios are MUCH better in that regard. :)
His performance is so warm here, he just makes you smile from the way he speaks.
Is it just me, or does this kinda feel like it could be Collin's version of The Curator?
@@megelizabeth9492 Funny you should say that, he plays a version of The Curator in Big Finish
That's why I suggested it!
Seeing The Doctor and Peri Brown reunited was the closure I never knew I needed!
I’m so ashamed of the awful memories I had of The Sixth Doctor growing up. I never appreciated him for what he was and what Collin had been through. He truly adored Doctor Who and playing The Doctor and was done a disservice by The BBC and writers. I’m so glad Big Finish has told more in depth stories and I’m so grateful for Tales of The TARDIS opening up all these potential doors for even more.
At conventions, Colin would emulate his Doctor's personality during panels and some people understood what he was doing while others thought he really was a jerk. This would include things like making anyone asking him a question remove a 4th Doctor scarf if they were wearing one.
Have you tried therapy to resolve your issue of being ashamed about your previous opinion of a fictional tv character 😂
Oh shut it. Like another episode of this series says, all we are are stories. So of course another bundle of stories will move us! Empathy is a very real thing, after all.
@@TheMadwomen we’re not just stories. Do you make up your past then? Is your history that uninteresting?
@@theelvisguru9490
Stories aren't necessarily fictional.
I love that RTD gave them this opportunity. It's great to see Colin play the Doctor without Eric Saward's attempts at character assignation.
assassination
@@Jasonm25870 I can't believe I misspelled that.
But my point still stands.
@@ryantherebelI loved that classic Who story, "The Deadly Assigner" :P I agree though, Colin deserves better.
Yes. Colin Baker got the short end of the stick. If he got great scripts and didn’t have to wear that stupid costume, he would have been very successful.
What did Eric Saward do, that was so awful?
Good revision of the suit. I know Colin’s mentioned he hated it so it’s nice to see him pull off a nice pink suit with the patterned pocket square inspired by the original costume.
Would of loved the blue coat
I loved Six’s suit second of all. Three and Four are my favorites. Maybe Nine, too.
He asked for an outfit which was roughly christopher Eccleston's.
@@bevenstarlow me too. I'm sure there has to be a cosplayer out there somewhere that would have LOVED to lend Colin their coat for the day.
he's also wearing rainbow socks, you can see them before the camera pans up while he's sitting and reading. Sixie still loves all his colors
Nicola’s American accent has improved exponentially 😂
The problem with 6 era who was never the actors or the characters.
She's still a very beautiful woman.
100% agree with you on that. JNT has a lot to answer for - his garish and tasteless wardrobe choices, refusing to reuse previously established script writers in favour of his cronies, purposefully pandering to American audiences with Peri's accent and rejecting advice from more experienced staff who had worked on DW!
Same problem with 13's era. Poor Jodie deserved better, just like Colin did.
I met Colin back in late 90s at a conference for the Star Wars prequels. He was so genuinely warm to me a stranger. Its great to see these mini episodes with colin being part of it.
What a great tribute to 6 and Peri. Wonderful to see Colin get a script, however short, that pays his character respect.
If you haven't listened to their Big Finish audio dramas, you are really missing out. Colin has such a wonderfully distinctive voice, and his unique take on the Doctor really shines in the Big Finish audios. Yes, he still plays a more egocentric and snarky Doctor in the audios, but there is also great compassion and a humanity that was never really featured in the TV episodes.
See, I'm confused if 6's Big Finish stories are being de-canonized by this (RTD loves Big Finish, so I doubt it, but he did previously de-canonize "Jubillee" in order to remake it as "Dalek"). Like, this implies it's 6's first time seeing Peri since "Trial of a Timelord," but at Big Finish the "Doctor and Peri" audio stories have that as their first time reuniting. So I'm confused how both can be possible, here.
@@MrMarsFargoIt's a timey wimey thing. 😂
I think it's kind of useless worrying about canon in a universe full of time travelers. At any moment, the Doctor might step on a lady bug while on another adventure and set off a chain of events that could subtly or overtly alter the timeline. As long as they somewhat hold to established canon, I'm not going to lose sleep. Shows been on 60 years, with hundreds of creators involved. People are going to make mistakes or contradict some other episode or throw away line of dialog.
@@MrMarsFargo
@@MrMarsFargo I mean, now we can blame the Toymaker
It's also a hint of humbleness. Like he's very humbled to be the doctor again. His final Chapter was one of the finest last acts of the doctor I have ever heard. By the way, do you have any big finish suggestions?
I love how they did a nod to how Peri and the Doctor walk around the Tardis console, one would go one way, and one would go the other, Peri did it once to try and get away from the Doctor, this time she was trying to give him a hug.
Was this just after the regeneration, when Six was still somewhat psychotic?
At the end I half expected Brian Blessed to burst in shouting ‘VERUMNIC!’
He's still alive and working, but it's been pretty much all voice work the last few years.
Fresh horses! Oops...wrong show...
Wonderful! So glad to see Colin Baker getting a chance to play the Doctor again and with Peri. I know Tom Baker is extreme old at this point but my god, there's a chair sitting right there just put him in it and let him do what comes naturally. Seeing him in the 50th anniversary brought tears to my eyes. How moving would it be to see him again done in such a loving and respectful way.
LOVE that they incorporated the detail from the boxed set preview video that Peri returns to the memorial every year with the Doc. The people who make these things really do show a lot of love for their work.
Honestly, Colin has always been "my Doctor" in terms of favorites. There was such an earnest love for the role in his portrayal. I've met him several times in person and he's always nothing less than 100% gracious to all of his fans.
@FredMeyer42 Respects to you. 👍
Have you listened to any of his Audio dramas! They are so much fun, and miles better than anything he got in the show proper!
I wish we could have seen the 6th Doctor transform into this charming interpretation during Colin Baker's initial run.
Check out the Big Finish productions. They mellowed him out nicely.
@@jamesbevan9939 He seems to be a nice guy
Colin Baker looks very distinguished in this outfit. Clearly they realised he might look a tad silly in the famous coat!
And it gives cosplayers some wiggle room as well. I'd love to do a mix of the Tales of the TARDIS outfit and the Classic Sixth Doctor look.
He’s the Curator now in Big Finish which could explain the change
@@beckyj.hollen2743 that’s true.
Part of me wishes they put him in the blue variant of his coat from Big Finish and other extended media. I'm sure there has to be a cosplayer or two out there that would have jumped at the chance to supply Colin with their coat for the day.
I wish they thought that in the 80s
I want to see this as a series. Colin deserved so much better than what he was given back in the day.
It was so good to see Sixie and Peri together again. Colin and Nicola still have such amazing chemistry and it was a lot of fun revisiting them again.
Also, I admit to a few happy tears along the way.
In actual tears over this
I miss them both so much
Colin Baker is outstanding. Spent part of my 50th birthday talking to him and the man is magical.
@@mikeloschiavo4913 I met him once at a convention and mentioned my favourite story was his Big Finish story with the Pirates of Penzance songs, and he laughed and started singing it. Absolutely fantastic fellow he is.
@@havoc697That song, I am the very model, was a great song! I think the episode is weird, but I love the song! And I really hope to encounter him again at a con one of these days!
@@mikeloschiavo4913 I hope you can meet him at a con too friend, its always a nice change of pace to see an actor beloved by people getting due praise in public!
Gonna say it: Nicola is still smokin' hot. Plus, loved the hug. It was so perfectly real and heartfelt.
She is gorgeous.
They've been good friends the whole time.
And this time around they've given her some clothes to wear.
I had a massive crush on Peri when I was a kid watching these two back in the '80's ❤️
The doctor looks so distinguished in that outfit. Peri looks great, the warrior Queen
This was amazing to see, Especially after Trial of a Timelord "mindwrap" where the doctor was taken out of time. He was on his way to save Peri.... So Glad they adressed this as all we knew was that Peri wasnt killed but alive and well as The Warrior Queen. As a kid, seeing Peri supposedly killed upset me... Glad they met again on screen. Beautiful scene
Some wonderful acting here. Makes me wish Colin Baker had been given better scripts and a fair go. He does the role enormous credit.
If it makes you feel any better, Colin got far better treatment in the Big Finish Audio books.
@@TheMarcHicks Cheers! I'll look into those.
Someone I know who doesn't know Doctor Who all that well thinks Colin Baker was the best actor they ever had in the role. He had stiff competition but I wouldn't disagree.
@@SimonFoston Colin Baker's a great actor but he's not the greatest who's ever played the Doctor. John Hurt was the greatest and had the resume outside of Doctor Who to prove it.
I would kill to see John Hurt do Series' 8 and 9. Series 10 too if he'd lived long enough. Peter Capaldi felt like he didn't really belong in the role, so he should have been the War Doctor, the one who's meant to feel like he shouldn't be there.
John Hurt ended up being too good for the War Doctor, so he should have been the final regeneration. He felt like a man who was born to play the Doctor but had to wait 7 decades for it to actually happen. And when it finally did, he wasn't used to his full potential.
Nicola can really nail an American accent now.
You'd think after forty years of being the Warrior Queen Peri would be speaking in a booming Shakespearean manner by now; I would do after just a week with Brian Blessed 😂
@@darrenbertram7289 Haha. Good point!
I always thought her accent was fine in the 80s. The problem was that they still wrote her lines in British verbiage, and it's jarringly off at times.
@@obsoletebutneat In "The Twin Dilemma", the Doctor asked Peri how she got her name and she answered that it was "a diminutive form of her proper name, Perpugilliam". Apparently the writer had never talked to *_any_* 19 year olds (the age Peri was supposed to have been then), never mind American ones.
Colin Baker was scorned for portraying a darker, more arrogant side of the Doctor. Turns out he was way ahead of his time.
I was 16 when Peri was the assistant … no idea why I loved her😂😂😂
Had the pleasure to meet Colin couple of weeks back, funny and a genuine nice guy
These clips are a sweet taste of something I have really wanted...the chance for these actors to return to their roles in a modern manner, without all the screaming and drama, to just enjoy relating to each other and continuing to develop characters that many of us have fond, if flawed memories of. I don't think either Colin or Nicola were done any favors by the writing and production on the show at the time, Bonnie even less so, as Mel really never stopped with the terrified screams. But with each of the episodes of this series it is so lovely to see them being treated with dignity, to really play up their relationships and humanity.
I’m still in love with Peri. And Six still has the most obvious fun being the Doctor of anyone. Love this.
At some point the Sixth Doctor decided to emulate The Master's facial hair.
Oh, he still does the voice & the expressions JUST like the olden days!
His face when he sees her is perfect!
This is giving me all the feels, esp. since they were one of my fave classic duos.
TBH I always HC'd her as having died cause having her survive seemed like a copout out of nowhere, but now I'm actually attached to the idea that he heard catchy songs circulating about her years later & this successful, prospered version of her.
Colin Baker is looking great here, and his acting is as fine as ever. He's honestly one of the best actors to ever play the doctor, yet so severely underserved by the writing.
I met him recently at a comicon, really nice guy and pleasure to meet.
Thank you for posting these segments. Amazing to see Colin and Nicola together again. Colin Baker will forever be...My Doctor! The sadness of his time being cut short and so many turning on him will haunt me to my grave. Loved series 22 and it is still my favorite of the classic series. Loved the alien nature of the sixth doctor's outfit and will defend Eric Saward's story crafting to the end! He was making Doctor Who for adults.
Except that Colin Baker hated that outfit
@@benjamindavis4974 That doesn't mean it was wrong for him to wear it. The whole point was to emphasise that the 6th Doctor's fashion taste was so far out of step with humans that he didn't realise how stupid he looked. And Colin, despite hating the outfit, always carried himself with confidence whilst wearing it.
@@tomnorton4277 Colin Baker hated it, every other actor had a say in their outfit he didn't
@@benjamindavis4974 Which only emphasises how great an actor Colin Baker is. He never looked uncomfortable in the outfit, despite hating it in real life. Dress Peter Capaldi in that costume, and he would never have been able to pull it off. Even David Tennant couldn't have managed it, which is emphasised by the fact that everybody knew he would look uncomfortable in Jodie Whittaker's clothes.
Monarchetype Email - thank you for posting these in their entirety. I can't tell you how glad I was to see them!
Even after all these years, Colin Baker still can't stand that coat 🤣
he's is a kind soul in real life
These are so emotional. What a beauty that the history, the people and characters are remembered and still so deeply treasured. 60 years of greatness! ❤
My all-time favorite TARDIS team. I’m totally crying.
Wow, Peri’s accent has improved a lot. To be fair, I suppose Nicola was pretty young when she took up the role.
Damn Peri aged well
I will admit, each one of these clips, has touched me deeply.. Thanks to all who made these..! 😍 👍 😀
Six is so underrated 💙💙
Ah look at these two complete patoots! Looks like they had a lot of fun working on this. Colin's Doctor has dripped sophistication for years - so great to watch him performing the role!
This was lovely, Peri seemed a little cold and distant though, but its nice to finally see Colin`s Doctor develop fully into a rather fabulous doctor.
I mean…this is the Doctor that strangled her and treated her like crap a good portion of their run together
@mediakira6621 Poor Peri, She easily had the toughest time as a companion. Poisoned Strangled by the Doctor, had to face Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Master, Rani, Sil, turned into a bird, tortured...
She is the Warrior Queen now. And her steel facade melted when she saw the Doctor again.
So great to see both Colin and Nicola again, they were 2 of my favorites from that time. These videos have been fantastic, thank you for posting them!
I hope Colin still has another decade or more left in him. He looks old and fat but has managed to retain a passionate and energetic screen presence despite his age. And Peri mentioning her wish to visit her late husband's tomb every year was a nice nod to a short film made a few years ago that promoted the 6th Doctor's era.
Incredible! Wonderful, genuine and heartfelt performances from them both. I'm really loving these!
I'm glad they gave Six a new outfit 👍
Should have been his blue coat
Its because Colin can't fit into the original costume.
@@dtuk22 tailors are a thing.
I was thrilled to find these! I love in the US, so would have to jump through hoops to see them otherwise. Thank you so much for posting them! ❤❤
Best Colin and Nicola scene ever. Truly poignant.
Best wishes to Tom. You can send him yours on his website. He hasn't been feeling the best.
Considering she's was last on doctor who in the 80's Nicola Byrant looks stunning here.
In her early 60's, but no that doesn't need to be taken into consideration.
I was waiting for someone to do this, put them together! Thank you! 🙏💪❤️🥳
Thank you for uploading these for us to see. 😍😍😍😍
When Peri says "I've done things!" I'm thinking yeah i bet you have love. 😉
Nice to see them back together again
Nicola Bryant has no right to be so lovely 40 years on, but oh, is she ever! Her natural British accent creeps in a little at times, and that's OK. And Colin Baker is probably the most misunderstood Doctor; caught up in BBC politics and controversy and hurt by his being let go. He deserved better and is getting his chances now in the modern Who. Hopefully, all the "Tales" will be eventually packaged and released outside the UK. I'd like a copy.
6th Doctor who played by Colin baker and his assistant Peri.. Oh the amazing golden old memories.. Timeless...
I absolutely adore the transition from the Tardis to the episode at 4:33.
So beautiful and emotional. Absolutely beautiful.
omg its pery i loved her. im glad shes back this is greatttt
Peri still beautiful
My Doctor ❤❤
That's adorable! And Peri still speaks great "American". I had pretty much drifted away from the series and only caught a few episodes, but that was more the writing than the actors. Good to see Colin back in the last few years.
Wonderful! 😊 Thanks for the upload!
I really loved this one. Six wasn't a favourite of mine TV wise but I have quite a few of his Big Finish audios, they're absolutely wonderful ❤
thanks so much for these
Thank You from Australia!!! :-)
Thanks for posting these. Not being in the UK meant I would have missed these. I would actually love to see this as an Anniversary tradition.
Perry aged so well.
Must admit it takes me back to my childhood so awesome seeing the people you grew up watching together again completely awesome
The Baker boys were always my favourites but thank you Big Finish for the redemption arcs for Six, Peri and Mel.
I just can't believe I'm seeing them again as their characters! What a wonderful treat for us... and I'm sure for them as well. FANTASTIC!
Peri…was a Dr. Who…babe😲🥰…that I fancied very much😘…she aged very wel👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 She is …still a beautiful woman to this day 😊😉
Lovely scene by two fine actors.
Big finish made adore these two, and it's so nice to see them together again ❤
I think I met 4 of the original doctors. Colin was one. Also a bunch of companions and one villain. Ahhh nostalgia.
As a classic fan, all of these are brilliant. Tying up loose ends, cleaning up messes, creating incredible tributes to beloved characters. Who's verklempt? It's not me, It's you.
Whatever you may think of the Sixth Doctor, Colin is an absolute treasure and it shows here. 🙂
Adorable box-set reference. The sort of thing you don't HAVE to do with Doctor Who and it's notoriously soft canon... But which is such a lovely touch when you do.
Thank you for sharing these!! In the US, we can’t see then
ZOMG, what a beauty she still is. She was always a good actress, too :) Probably my favorite companion, after Leela and Romana II
Really like this. Also, I now want Colin Baker to play John Hammond in a Jurassic Park universe film.
Neat idea, but I think for a remake Michael Kane would be perfect for John Hammond.
Thank you 👍
Great video 😊
Aha! So this ties into the short they did some time ago! I was hoping for that, but I wasn't expecting it! Lovely continuity!
whatever they exclude the rest of the world from please keep posting! Thanks!
She is still gorgeous.
Oh Peri was marvellous, wasn't she? Colin looks like a proper Doctor now ...
This is so brill 🥰
It’s no surprise Colin Baker refused to wear the sixth Doctor’s old outfit - even if it does make an appearance. Practically nobody liked it other than John Nathan-Turner.
Ages ago, I saw a picture of a cosplayer who had turned Six's coat into a Victorian dress and it actually looked nice.
John Nathan-Turner, speak softly and wear a loud Hawaiian shirt!
Nicola is still stunning to see. The last I saw them both... Star Trek Continues!!
Bring the 6th back in a full episode!!!
Nicola Bryant is STILL a hottie ♥
Love this ❤
💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ you can never replace the classic. Legend, Dr. I should do things like this more often I prefer the classic legendary Doctor Who over the new long way around.
