So far I’m genuinely failing to see why everyone hates the 13th Doctor.
Well, I pretty much hate series 11 and if you want to know why it was poorly written, I recommend a video entitled The Noble Failures of Doctor Who Series 11. As for the Doctor herself, I love the idea of a female Doctor, I love the actress, but I think she didn't get a strong and defined personality to work with, so her acting skills can't shine.
Yup👌🏻
Yeah I do agree that the writing in this series at times was fairly poor, hopefully it'll do the actors and characters better justice in the next one
Either Chibnill made her a Mary Sue, or she is just trying to act the doctor instead of being the doctor.
Likely both.
Idk it's just kinda upbeat you don't really see the pain or the rage behind the doctor it's just kinda gone more childlike
"Come to daddy!" "I mean mummy"

She’s like a fun aunt who never knows what’s going on
I know, and it ruins her as the Doctor.
Not the fun aunt part. The part where she doesn't know what's going on. The Doctor _always_ knows what's going on!
@@JontyLevine I dunno, the Doctor has had plenty of times where he/she just wings it and makes it up as they go along.
@@JontyLevine that's not the issue. That's happened plenty of times before in some of the greatest episodes of the show: heaven sent, midnight, listen. It's the shit writing that sucks

@@JoshStoobs Meh, I like it. The Doc has always been a little fruity lol. Plus, I love the tone they're going for in the new season. Like what you like, hate what you hate, and I'll do the same.
She's fun. She also should not be left without adult supervision.
Doesn't that go for all of them?
NOW I see why the Doc never travels alone- SOMEBODY needs to stop him from pulling something crazy....
Well then, Graham's found a new job: trying to make sense of a 4.5 Billion year old toddler.
@@ArrowProds Welp, good luck with that...

It really does 🤣
I haven't gotten the chance to watch 13's run yet but judging by this, she seems to be endearing in the fact that you can see little pieces of the previous Doctors in her (which makes sense because it's all one person). Like 4's playfulness, 9's sass and Northern accent, 10's charm and 11's childlike qualities and awkwardness. It works I think.
Which is actually lazy, every other doctor acts differently tgeyre all unique however shw just tries to imitate tennant
And all the episodes try to choke you with some global moral.

Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor under Davies or Moffat’s writing would have been a force to reckon with. She’s a babe, she’s funny, she makes great facial expressions, and she’s a great actress. Chibnall did her dirty.

Another“its just the writin“....the truth is hard..but she isn't the Doctor! Every last D. has Character...on his own way....she is only a Bigbird with to much Espressos
@@carstengeers4896 It really is the writing though. When Capaldi regenerated, her first scene was actually very much like someone you would call "The Doctor". The episode that followed though, it just didn't do her justice.
Every Doctor in these series have had such a great introduction, something that just made everyone like that version of the Doctor. 9th had his first scene with Rose, which was cool when we hear him talking about feeling the Earth turning. Tennant was witty and had some mystical feel to him, while Smith felt like God.
Capaldi's first episode was all about coming to terms with how long he's lived, and about how his identity had changed.
Whittaker had... no special moment. I guess you can call the time she made her Sonic screwdriver a special moment, but it wasn't anything that stood out that made us love her. Her theme music ain't even empowering or iconic at all.
It's also very difficult to sympathize with the characters due to the writing.
It's really not her acting. It's really not that "she's not the Doctor". The writers have simply not helped us care for her, and her companions.
Jodie should have had some epic moment that made us scream "she is the Doctor!". That never happened though, and that, combined with the mediocre story? No wonder this whole series felt off.
@@decentgamer5640 I didn't like the companions either. Most of them didn't have much substance with the exception of Graham. I also really think that having 3 different companions was a bit excessive.
I love how she's still not used to the fact that she turned into a girl. Her weird energy is so relatable I love her
It's crazy how fast time goes. Still remember her announcement in July 2017 and then her first appearance in Twice Upon a Time.
Regardless of the writing and the controversy it has been nearly 5 years and she will be missed.
Love 13's more carefree and fun vibe but I'd also love to see her get a bit more assertive and serious like she did at the beginning of The Ghost Monument when crashing. Or more sassy like she was when talking to the Dalek in Resolution. You could feel the inner rage she has towards them yet she still know's she's going to come out victorious.
13 comes across as somebody who overcompensates with a happy and goofy personality to hide a really ultra dark side
I think she might be a bit like 11 where in the beginning she'll be a bit more silly but towards the more serious bits she'll have more darkness, let's just hope the writing gets better next season
Like the second Doctor and eleven.
@@robertrodriguez2106 or Seven. I'd say Five, too, but from what I've heard/seen, he started out pretty dark/grim
She's getting better in series 12
You know, Jodie's first scene in the TARDIS, just after regeneration was great! She said one word, and the rest was body language, facial expression, and acting. Very much like Matt's introduction, she fell out of the TARDIS, with the interior in flames.
Unfortunately, I don't know what the writers were doing with the rest of this series. Why didn't they give Jodie an epic moment? Every Doctor's first episode has had ONE epic moment that defined them. I wouldn't even count the screwdriver scene, because that was just character building, but she didn't say or do anything amazing. Her theme music isn't really special at all. It doesn't really do anything for her.
When the next Series comes around, these writer HAVE to give her an epic moment, or nobody's gonna like her any better.
As someone said in another comment, they havent given her tat scene that really makes her feel like the doctor yet.
Fem Portagal It’s unfortunate that even if they do get a better writer, she’s still likely gonna be unpopular because she’s a woman.
@@laughable6650 I mean, I was pretty excited to see her as the Doctor. Her first scene directly after regeneration was actually done pretty well, and it left me expecting a lot, if I'm being fairly honest.
You gotta remember that a lot of people didn't warm up to Capaldi right away. I did, but a bunch of my friends didn't, at least not initially.
She needs her moment of greatness, or something that lets us accept her. Like, she's the least favourite, and her series had the worst writing in the show.
@@jmmproductions6741 I loved her seriousnes in that scene:
"Why do you call me ma'am?"
"Because you're a ... woman?"
"Am I? Oh right, now I remember!" that one "Brilliant" moment right when she regenerated from 12th. Her look, the smile (David Tennant much) and that one single word. Priceless reaction.
@@Croftice1 Yeah, that first scene was well shot and well written for a new Doctor. Can't say the writing or shooting was as good for the rest of the series.

I love how 13 is like the perfect mix of david and matt
The constant talking and thinking out loud while moving around is a perfect mix I love 13 so much lol.
Love her or hate her, to quote the sixth doctor; "I am the doctor, whether you like it or not".
I love Thirteen's personality and charm but I don't really like how they've written her to be very reliant on her sonic :/
11 was constantly waving his sonic around aswell so it's nothing new. Maybe the fact 12 used it less it's weird coming back to it?
That’s EVERY damn Modern Doctor.
Tennant: “Oh give me a break” *just pulls out sonic as he’s reclining, legs crossed*
The sonic screwdriver has always been a plot hole tbh. They use it whenever the writers can’t think of another way out of the situation. Like the one time in The Runaway Bride when the Doctor scans Donna and suddenly knows her whole history. If I recall, that use is never used again in the show.
@@laughable6650 Well the sonic can pick up all various readings, not only the (what were they called?) Tachyon particles or whatever the plot was about (need to re-watch the episode), but also stuff in her blood, like sugar, iron and whatnot. Stuff that the ordinary doctors (the medical ones) can examine and tell you lots about your life based on these. It's the Doctor after all. And why it wasn't used later? Well it was, remember how 11th scanned Amy's clone? Didn't he used a similar method, like reading from the sonic?
Umm where have you been? The doctor is always reliant on the sonic 😂
Edit: I mean like remember The Day of the Doctor?
"THEY'RE SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS, NOT WATER PISTOLS."
I really think this season could have been incredible, the writing just wasn’t it though.
A few shows seem to be struggling with that lately. *Cough* Game of Thrones *Cough* And it’s too bad. Sucks when you take a great show and give it bad writers.
I'm just hoping that Series 12 makes up for Series 11
@@justinsedgwick545 when do you think there will be a new doctor?
KiNg KЯ Judging by the track record I'd say we'll get a new Doctor by Series 13. Tennant, Smith and Capaldi all lasted 3 seasons, so I'm going to assume the same for Whittaker.
I know!! It's.. just looks very distant with other seasons and doctors.. like she's never had the knowledge of 2000 years brain.. it's always great to get excited.. but a time lord with a TARDIS, having fought in many many wars... She's struggling with TARDIS, doubtful about current social status around... I mean come on!! It's the doctor.. if he/she doesn't know most of it.. it is embarrassing!!
Okay, after completely rewatching all of series 11, i can say something i never thought i would say.
Thirteen actually does have her own personality, and nobody is really talking about it. and it's so obvious.
Jodie seems like she's just fighting an uphill battle right now , and people are unconditionally picking out the worst of her and ignoring the best.
Thirteen is the childish doctor. She's like a kid filled with puppy energy. That's her style.
One was a young old man, very crotchety.
Tao was timid and twitchy.
Three was down to earth and techy.
Four was bombastic and like a cool uncle.
Five was dapper and naive.
Six was... six.
(forgive me , i haven't watched a lot of seven.)
Eight didn't get much, but he's the american one.
Nine was the soldier.
Ten was the veteran.
Eleven/Twelve were the grieving ones.
Thirteen was the spunky man in denial of his inner turmoil.
Fourteen was that denial being torn off, a tired old man, letting out all of his rage.
And fifteen is new. Fifteen is a reborn doctor, not only through regeneration, but entirely. Twelve let go of his past. He let go of all of his grief and pain from the war, and left us with the child, jodie.
She's full of energy. She's excited and fun, the complete rebound from twelve (the whiplash there could be a factor in the hate against her.)
That's fifteens style. she's the puppy. And i love that. It's so fun to watch.
edit: some spelling errors.
Nice
Well said :)
@Benjamin Davis Liverpool to be exact
Seven was (and I'm just butting in here as a huge Seven fan) the detached mastermind. To quote his companion: "You've always known, you just can't be bothered to tell anyone! It's like it's some kind of a game and only you know the rules!"
Which ties in to what you've said because the "detached mastermind" came after...Six. Who, as you say, was...six. I feel as if that was an in-universe reaction; the Doctor over-compensating for who he was in his Sixth Regeneration. So Fourteen finding some kind of peace, and finally being able to have FUN again as Fifteen, makes a wonderful kind of sense.
(Obligatory comment about how the writing isn't doing Jodie any favours, but then Moffat was/is a garbage show runner [imho only! please don't kill me, Moff-Heads!] and he gave us some pretty good bits. They just need to up the "good bit" ratio right now.)

I am never going to stop being absolutely furious at the people who give 13 shit. She's a brilliant addition to the Doctor Who franchise, and the fact that she's a woman has nothing to do with it. Look at Missy - hands down the best incarnation of the Master in NuWho, and anyone hating her for being a lady got over it pretty damn quick once it became clear how rich her character was. All the blame for this season's failure should not be falling on Jodie. None of it should be, actually, because she embodies the Doctor so well. She's a fantastic actor, and it's the writers that should be blamed. 13 is bursting with personality and life and yet people seem to only focus on the awkward dialogue and poor story lines as if she has any say in those. I really hope she gets at least one season with a decent team of writers.
Literally though! I think Jodie did amazing at portraying the doctor despite the bad writing. I love her personality and it’s not fair how people take it out on her when really they should be blaming the writers.
In my opinion the 13th doctor is bad but that's entirely the fault of the writers
Exactly tho, I just love her
"I am never going to stop being absolutely furious at the people who give 13 shit" not absolutely furious anything but that. 2% of the people that hate the show now is because shes female. The rest is oh I don't know the bs writing, the fact the show is woke, the fact that most the other people such or are dumb, the constant cramming down our throat bs agendas that aren't true and just slow and non intelligent crap.
Id say i have no problem with jodie, she was fantastic! However the writing of the episode is just not as good as how it was previously
Doctor: Good
Season: Bad
Perfectly summarises series 11 in 4 words.
That gasp when her sonic was eaten though....
*My heart.....*
She can be so funny but seriously I need some good stories some good old alien fights less political more aliens
Doctor who had always been political, nice try but your anti left bullshit isn't working
Damn right, I just think it's never been as explicit, it's always been a read behind the lines thing, and chibnall focusing episodes explicitly around it kinda makes it lose meaning
@@sociallyineptspider-man2366 yes it has political aspects on some episodes. I'm not saying it never has been political before. What I'm saying is that the show's most recent season has been too heavily focused on political correctness. I'm not saying a show can't have politics in there. What I'm saying is that doctor who's main goal is to entertain. But when they're shoving SJW propaganda down our throats.
@@sociallyineptspider-man2366 and not every single episode of doctor who has been political focused.
So do any of you remember Martha Jones?
Maybe not as forced but it was there, the politics. But I don't like it when it's this forced, yes.

**vsauce music**
I love the 13th doctor. I love how the episodes are filmed too. Very close, small sets, very good musical score. I know the budget has been coming down through the years, but now it feels partially like an adventure and partly like a stage show which makes it very dramatic. I don't know, I think it's great.
Basically a genderbent Matt Smith. Probably my favorite doctor to be honest
And unlike Eleven, who faked it so he could look at himself in the mirror, Thirteen actually means it.
The thing that gets me is how he actually thought he was a girl. Then after he said no he realized his chin. Jodi just takes that mood and runs
@@TheBanishedWind haha... That's funny, your funny

"Talking of wasps, I ever told you about me and Agatha Christie?"
Reference to the 10th Doctor!
“sad scronch” i love thirteen so much hfhahsuhhdafh
HAHAA I LOVE THIS
Resolution was where I really think 13 came into her own, that moment where she gets Lin as a hologram, the intensity is just amazing
This is what you get when a woman channels the 4th doctor. The doctor knows who they are so, they just decide to bloody well enjoy it.
First of all, props to Jodie, second of all, what is this writing? Why is the doctor 100% quirky and 0% serious? The quirkiness only works when they allow the thousand year old man whose heart has been broken over and over again, who has seen worlds being born and killed and keeps losing people, to shine through every once and again. I know she could play that doctor if they’d let her.
I’ll be happy when she returns in the future with a competent writer. Like imagining Davies writing for her is amazing.
Jodie: APPLE BOBBING I LOVE APPLE BOBBING
Me:😂😂😂😂
Me at a Halloween Party.
“DON’T SHOOT!”
“EXTERMINATE!”
lol I got shield I am pro and pro strats
I never saw anything wrong with the writing in Chibnall's era. I am enjoying it like any other doctor who season
G: Im sorry to bother you, Im afraid my cancer's coming back
D: I got social anxiety
come the heck on, please
Loved this! Thank you for putting together a 13th Doctor vid! I love the 13th Doctor, she's pretty amazing! I wasn't sure how I would feel at first but after the 1st episode I found that I took to her right away! Can't wait for New Year's Day!
it JsT aTe maH sONeC
She feels a lot more like a spiritual successor to 11 than 12 did honestly, shes goofy and clever while not leaving out the parts of the doctor that make them terrifying
The 13th doctor gives me cool teacher stepmum vibes and I love it 😂
13th is just a child in a timelords body
13th doctor is an absolute legend don't know why people hate her >:(
Most of the hate should be placed on the writers if we're to be honest. The dialog is good, just some of the story plots bored me. Also I only watched half of the series and it seemed like they nerfed The Doctor. From what I can tell of what I watched that is anyways
People don’t hate her, they hate the writing of the episodes
