    I have been doing fry scream for about a year and a half and recently I feel like I am stuck. I am not able to do songs with lots of screaming in them without me sounding like I am wheezing and needing water. I have always thought about learning false chord but never really wanted to try, which then I found your video. You explained it very simply and showed what the different screams sounded like. I am now going to try and learn false chord because I want to be able to scream and sing metalcore, but also be able to do deathcore. You showed me that false chord highs can sound so brutal and they are not a fry scream. So I am going to watch this video as many times as I need to so I can hopefully learn false chord and become a better vocalist. Thank you for posting this video.

    You know, I watched this whole video and I'm really glad I did. I figured out that false chord just isn't smth I'm wanting to pursue. I do feel like I've been a bit stuck recently. You got me to see that I need to keep doing small exercises and some day I'm going to have fry screams that are as low as you are showing here. Seeing the bigger picture.

      Just gotta take your time with it and really focus on getting the distortion coming from the right place. Once you've got the distortion down you can start to add power from your diaphragm and just build up to a proper scream.

    When I got into falsechord screams, I found that I was only capable of closed chord screams that are mostly voice forward, making it very sharp/rumble sounding. Like a shout scream. Similar to Ivan Moody or Winston McCall. Even 5 years later, I can still only do it that way.

    I like the fact that we have the same method but figured out in different ways. Initially I was doing what you call "the cookie monster technique" and then I tried to focus more and more on the false cords distortion to have cleaner vocals, now I'm trying to isolate the distortion completely and trying to push air as I do that. I think you might want to try it as well it might help you too to have more "filthy" sounds on your vocals in general. Try to figure out how to only engage your false cords with the lowest amount of air possible, then push more and more trying to mantain only the distortion sound

    But what am I doing wrong if even the basic distortion thingy hurts? I can do a Kargyyra so I'm pretty sure I'm using my falsechords, but it feels uncomfortable... I'm pretty sure my vocal chords are connecting somehow (talking about highs mostly, those are hard ffs), cuz after a longer screaming session my savila gets really thick, and it'll be a bit harder to swallow and shit like that. My lows are okey, but they sound like a very low yell instead of a good wet raspy low scream. I'd be happy if you could give me some advices! :D

    • @aRiitorVocals
      @aRiitorVocals  Рік тому +3

      If it feels uncomfortable or painful then it's not being done correctly. Try not to jump into long screaming sessions before figuring out the fundamentals because you will develop bad habits using the wrong technique and cause damage to your vocal cords over time.
      Bring things back to basics and work on getting the angry sigh down to a tee first. Then you can start building up from there by working on lows and highs.
      I would avoid highs completely until you are comfortable with creating the basic distortion.
      I can't say much about doing kargyyra as I've never practiced it but it sounds to me that you are not utilizing your false cords properly from that method.

    • @aRiitorVocals
      @aRiitorVocals  2 роки тому +7

      Don't focus too much on making your vocals louder at first. Pushing too much in an attempt to make it louder is the easiest way to damage something. Instead just focus on getting the technique as solid as possible and over time with enough practice your vocals will naturally project more and more.

    • @aRiitorVocals
      @aRiitorVocals  2 роки тому

      To make it more powerful you need to apply more pressure from your diaphragm and release more air. Don't be forceful with it tho and try not to let the sound become too airy. There's a fine balance between having a stable scream and a more powerful scream. Gotta practice a lot to find a comfortable place in between those.

    @ferrandor8306 Рік тому

    I really can't find the way to do the distorsion without the tickiling in my throat, doesn't hurt but i feel thats not the way to do it, can anyone help?

    • @aRiitorVocals
      @aRiitorVocals  Рік тому

      The tickling feeling tends to happen when your vocal cords are vibrating or touching while doing vocals. Sounds to me that your not activating your false cords properly and are more likely adding too much of your own voice using your vocal cords.
      My advice is pretty much what I explained in the video. Take it back to the basic fundamentals and work solely on getting the false cord angry sigh down to a tee.
      Don't focus on saying any words or hitting any specific pitch. Just keep everything relaxed and make sure it feels comfortable when you are doing it.

  • @matthewhissom3501
    @matthewhissom3501 2 роки тому

    I get an airy sound, any tips on that?

    • @aRiitorVocals
      @aRiitorVocals  2 роки тому

      So long as the distortion is coming from the right place then don't worry too much about it sounding airy at first. This happens usually because too much air is being let out so try compress the sound more with your diaphragm and focus on the distortion sound rather than trying to make it powerful or loud. Those two things come with time and practice naturally.

    • @aRiitorVocals

      @@aRiitorVocals Quick sidenote though: I've noticed that in some countries, cookiemonster talks in their native tongue and a different tech is used. Good vid by the way! EDIT: I like how you describe that while doing highs feels like pushing it higher, you're not increasing pressure to get there. The 'èh, àh'' sound you did to mimic the positioning of the highs by changing your mouth shape, tongue placement etc alters resonance and compression on its own from what I've found. As long as the sound is placed right. Nice example

It was weird tho, lol at 7 minutes he says "you probably wont get it first try", there i was making the exact same sound first try....and then at 11 minutes i felt like i learned enough to AT LEAST TRY a song...went to black dahlia murders what a horrible night and i actually sounded like a death metal singer...granted it definitely needs work and its kinda hard to try and incorporate all i learned at the same time for my first try, and after like a minute or so it sounded even worse and i can feel my throat kinda getting a little sore (id imagine its because its a different singing technique and i just need to get used to it) but like....ive never actually been able to keep that type of noise going...like i would always try to make the death metal scream noise but it only lasted for like a second and it sounded like complete shit....but 11 minutes of this video and i think i have the basics down....hell the breathing through the straw thing is way better than what i was doing (just deadass trying to breath in faster) and the description of using your diaphragm, it was great advice....thanks for the video man...hopefully ill be sounding good at some point
