DS Lite Reshell and USB C Charge Mod

- The USB C mod was provided to me by rorosaurus on discord (and github and tindie) for testing. He's sent me a few mods so far and they've all been fantastic. I wanted to get this one checked out and make a video on it but I also had a new shell I wanted to install a DS Lite in so I figured I'd get two birds stoned. I will edit this video down for just the USB C mod for those interested. The edited down version is here: • DS Lite USB C Charge Mod
rorosaurus will be selling these boards preassembled (I believe) on his tindie store when he gets the design finalized and gets the stock, otherwise, the source is listed on his github if you want to DIY.

I did NOT file down the shell for this as it's not 100% necessary but it would result in a much cleaner appearance if I did.

I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication to your channel, using your videos and bingeing your repairs I've successfully refurbished two gbas and installed ips v2 screens, audio amp, and tactile triggers in both. You're awesome, quick question do you still recommend ladda batteries vs the battery mods since your last video on them?

Going to try this mod this weekend. Got a DS Lite with some GBA parts I was trying to get on an eBay ad. Unfortunately I've already reshelled it. The charging port did work and then just gave up when I went to use it a few months later. Time to USB C it!
I feel your frustration about those adhesive tapes in the end...
The rubber pad situation for me I have a dental tool that has a needle point (that tends to bend easy) but I used it for years and it's perfect to get under the surface of the rubber pads and pop them right out without leaving visible damage when put back together. I have tried just about every other way and yjru always left damage.

Have you put a USB C on a DMG?
Battery mod and ips screen mod. With as much space as there is in the case you could get a pretty big battery in there.
but why? There are much better consoles to mod than a DMG.

Funny you ask because guess what just got teased today -- a composite out mod for DS Lite.
Otherwise, no. Original DS only or 3DS.

Gerbers are in the linked github so you can order the PCBs anytime you want
@@makho oh so i take that file to someone like pcbway or something and place an order. then all i need to do is order some of the USB C jacks but, i need to get a certain one/model type i might guess
@@cdoublejj yes, more or less. Oshpark will probably be cheaper for the boards due to the small size of the boards and the castellated hole requirements. The part number for the specific port should be in the github as well.
@@makho i noticed there are a number of files on the git, a bill of materials, an instructions "MD" file and "gerber.zip" would i just upload that entire zip file to oshpark or this for people who know what they are doing as far ask pcb print ordering and all that. i can solder but, never designed and printed a pcb before. EDIT: ypu just give the gerber zip to the oshcut uploader what a wierd file name. who'd have though babyfood was the key to USB C on DSL?
@@makho ok i got it ordered but, some how i don't think they will honor $0.70 cents shipped for 3 of this pcb. lol now to find the SMD parts
