@@short_yeti2058 If it's flat, phones' camera bezels will collide with it, so I think it needs something adjustable/swappable to accommodate differing bezels. Yesssss!!! Give M-Con as much spotlight as possible. Been following the M-Con project since his first video over it dropped. I hope they get a polished product offering and keep moving forward -- I'm ready to drop money on it for sure.
13:45 can I suggest to put a second battery on the other side of the controller? To add more autonomy and more important to balance the weight of the controller
Love minimal travel setups so adore this and will buy one once available. Also use Viture IR glasses and can see them working fine here with the USB-C of the phone being unobstructed. I could totally picture a sleek matching color titanium model for people to use on their iPhone Pro's (case-less) so this becomes a partial case instead and so dramatically slims down the overall (phone + controller) for pocketing.
yup exactly, it's too thick to have that on your phone but if it's getting thinner it'll be uncomfortable, if i have to bring that thick controller around, i would probably just bring a proper controller
Definitely can be optimized, but hopefully the final version is released with a heavy weight material that is heavier than the phone. He talks about in this video, but a top heavy device will make for a fatiguing experience.
Suggestions: -Slim stacked shoulder buttons -Finger rubber grips on the back -Magnets slides from the back (between the shoulders buttons) and has a hinge with snap tilting
i think what needs to be focused on the design is that it should be pocketable, ergonomic, and better if it has a powerbank as thats what makes it better for travel. the design is not that bad as i have an 8bitdo sne30 pro with a clip and i find it harder to hold. with a powerbank it will balance the weight and would be better if it has a retractable clip rather a sliding feature. Something similar to the old samsung gamepad controller's retractable clip but with rectangular design with grip and with a powerbank build in
I wanted something like this for years. I think many people did. It's crazy nobody made it up until this point. Props to Josh and good luck with the kickstarter.
I'm hoping the final product is thinner. That's what's going to make this device desirable or not. I've been watching this for a couple months and I'm definitely excited for the Kickstarter to launch and we get a look at the final product.
great in theory, but in practice any thinner may further limit/compromise the joysticks (like the Retroid Pocket flip) and make it harder to grip. i'm not saying i don't agree just that i don't know how feasable it is, Russ already noted its top heavy which will only become more of an issue the thinner/lighter/harder to grip it is.
@@K0M1N0 yeah, you could be right. The thickness it's at now may be with the final product is. It seems a little bulky, but it doesn't mean I'm not interested in it. I think this would be a cool accessory to have especially since it's swappable to different phones. The guy was on Reddit yesterday and he said in a comment that he plans on having interchangeable connection plates so you could buy different backs if you get a different phone but use the same controller.
@@K0M1N0 Xperia Play and PSP Go could be used as references. The Go is 17mm thick when it is closed, so that should make the buttons area around 10mm or so thick. The thumbsticks might be a problem though. They don't look as low profile as the nub that was used on the PSP
like 3 days ago was thinking "why companies dont make phone controllers smaller, so you could carry them in vacations?" was thinking more of something like the x1 mini has, that could be attached to right and left of the phone, and when not used to be joined... nice job 20 year old kid :D
My main concern as a PSVita owner who finds this controller interesting, is that I hope that if they stick to Vita sticks, that they use the Vita 1000's hall effect sticks instead of the 2000's. The 1000's sticks are less likely to have drift.
@@NetflixForeign It was mostly to cut manufacturing costs, especially when it wasn't selling well enough. I think the dumber move was ditching the hall effect sticks as they aren't even any more expensive than potentiometer sticks. Though I heard the latter are easier to replace than the former, at least when it comes to the Vita.
@@NetflixForeign I said "less likely" but it's not fullproof. Nowadays I see posts on Vita subreddits about 1000 models getting drift too; these devices are just so old now that hardware failure is just bound to happen in a matter of time anyway. Ideally, they get the Retroid/Ayn sticks and manage to fit them here instead, like Russ suggested. The Vita's sticks are ass anyway lol
The biggest attraction for me is the fact that it looks like powerbank, so its not pretentious to look at Definitely way cooler than bringing controller, Cant wait to get one myself!

I'd just say please try to focus also on the motion range of the analog sticks and implementing L3 and R3 as press able buttons for the analog sticks. That would be the absolute game changer!! Im saying tuned for more!
I've been excited about this since it was teased by the developer a few months back. It's easily the coolest phone controller I've ever seen and I would buy one immediately if it were available now. I'm looking forward to the final product. Thanks for covering it!
This controller actually looks pretty cool. Smart design and very compact. I wonder if swapping the thumbsticks and face buttons over might feel a little better, like having the thumbsticks be at the top right and left.
Finally someone made a controller like this. I have been wondering for quite some time why such controller is not in the market. Kudos to the creator and yeah 20 yo doing it is amazing. All the best to bringing it to the market next year

Last year UA-cam promotes the UA-camr who made this product, a very talented young guy. I'm glad there are more ppl see his products. Best of luck to his business.
One thing that I think deserves some praise is the ergonomics; More specifically, how the buttons and sticks are laid out on the controller relative to each other. Each stick is placed diagonally down from the respective D-Pad and Face Buttons, and is even contained within the same shallow indent that said D-Pad and Face Buttons are. I know this might not *seem* like a big deal at first, but to me it’ll make a huge difference, cuz it’ll make reaching all of the controls easier and more intuitive. Other controllers (but especially those that emulate the Switch Joycon style of controllers) like to place all of their controls directly above one another, which (on top of making unwanted inputs more likely to occur) makes actually reaching those controls with your thumb more difficult, and may lead to cramped hands.
Awesome stuff! I saw the developer's original video a couple of months back and was honestly impressed. The one thing is that I don't really get the point of the sliding feature...it adds clearance issues and thickness with no real benefits because the point of using magsafe is easy detachment and stowaway. I think a slim version that isn't limited in comfort by a sliding mechanism might be better.
The potential for this to open up gaming to a wider audience as well as making it more comfortable, tactile and functional for people already using phones is absolutely huge. Very curious to see how it will be priced.. because I want to get 5, just to give to people.
i forgot how i found their ad for the product, but i subscribed for email updates from them like a month ago. i truly believe it has lots of potential, its so genius
What I like the most about this project is that with my other controllers I have to constantly remove the phone's case. Hopefully he sells matching cases so I can have it connected all the time
Magnetic attachment is really cool. I love the slider form factor. Reminds me of my old "Droid" slider phone. Definitely see me using the magnet controller more than a clip one. I could see it being a cool "2nd pocket" device, like my Miyuu Mini is currently, replacing the device I already put in my 2nd pocket with my phone being more powerful than my compact handhelds.

RETRO GAME CORPS I AM SO GLAD YOU REVIEWED THIS I DIDNT EVEN EXPECT IT
Love minimal travel setups so adore this and will buy one once available. Also use Viture IR glasses and can see them working fine here with the USB-C of the phone being unobstructed. I could totally picture a sleek matching color titanium model for people to use on their iPhone Pro's (case-less) so this becomes a partial case instead and so dramatically slims down the overall (phone + controller) for pocketing.
this is so perfect. Good on Josh, can't wait to see/get the final product :)
Yes it's thicc, but it's an early prototype so it can probably be optimized further. Amazing project and I wish all the best for this guy!
I don't know how further can you go in that aspect, because a really thin controller it's very uncomfortable. Maybe that's the best it can be.
yup exactly, it's too thick to have that on your phone but if it's getting thinner it'll be uncomfortable, if i have to bring that thick controller around, i would probably just bring a proper controller
or just the compact switch like phone controller
Definitely can be optimized, but hopefully the final version is released with a heavy weight material that is heavier than the phone. He talks about in this video, but a top heavy device will make for a fatiguing experience.
1:30 Hey! Playing in punk rock bands is pretty awesome!
Suggestions:
-Slim stacked shoulder buttons
-Finger rubber grips on the back
-Magnets slides from the back (between the shoulders buttons) and has a hinge with snap tilting
Great controller excited to see all the future iterations- congrats to the inventor
im so glad this is getting wider exposure, the dudes video around the controller is brilliant
i think what needs to be focused on the design is that it should be pocketable, ergonomic, and better if it has a powerbank as thats what makes it better for travel. the design is not that bad as i have an 8bitdo sne30 pro with a clip and i find it harder to hold. with a powerbank it will balance the weight and would be better if it has a retractable clip rather a sliding feature.
@@K0M1N0that and it may mess up the weight distribution and make a good grip near-impossible.
just dont make it thinner than the phone itself otherwise it wouldn't be comfortable
Watched his video a few days back; incredible job!
Excited to see this come to market!!
You're over 40?? Damn, does reviewing retro devices stop the aging process?
yea i swear a year or two ago i thought he was like 30 max. maaaaybe early 30s if we pushing it.
Russ looks young as hell for is age lol
This is the exact format I have been waiting for! God I hope they nail it in the final version
like 3 days ago was thinking "why companies dont make phone controllers smaller, so you could carry them in vacations?" was thinking more of something like the x1 mini has, that could be attached to right and left of the phone, and when not used to be joined... nice job 20 year old kid :D
Thats the razer junglecat
@@bulletpunch9317 thats still to big
@@b4g4b3l i mean sure, if you want one where you just hold it with your thumbs then junglecat is too big.
What a great device, I think I'm ready to give money honestly, well done Josh!
The kickstand is actually really cool!
My main concern as a PSVita owner who finds this controller interesting, is that I hope that if they stick to Vita sticks, that they use the Vita 1000's hall effect sticks instead of the 2000's.
The 1000's sticks are less likely to have drift.
Wow just one more thing that was better on the original Vita versus the successor. So dumb Sony ditched the OLED.
beep spotted in the wild
@@NetflixForeign It was mostly to cut manufacturing costs, especially when it wasn't selling well enough. I think the dumber move was ditching the hall effect sticks as they aren't even any more expensive than potentiometer sticks. Though I heard the latter are easier to replace than the former, at least when it comes to the Vita.
@@Lipefipegamer 🤝🤝🤝
LOL that pfp
@@NetflixForeign I said "less likely" but it's not fullproof. Nowadays I see posts on Vita subreddits about 1000 models getting drift too; these devices are just so old now that hardware failure is just bound to happen in a matter of time anyway.
Ideally, they get the Retroid/Ayn sticks and manage to fit them here instead, like Russ suggested. The Vita's sticks are ass anyway lol
The biggest attraction for me is the fact that it looks like powerbank, so its not pretentious to look at
Definitely way cooler than bringing controller,
Cant wait to get one myself!
I think the creator announcing it this far from launch is a mistake. There is a good chance another company will use his idea before his even releases.
I mean, it's already taking Sony's general idea
@@IAmTheGlovenor On a surface level yes, but Josh turned that idea into a viable modern product. He essentially did all the R&D for any potential copycats. Now all they have to do is reverse engineer his design and 3D print it.
There were other cases like this, there's a ton of 3d models available online.
Yeah but he patented it i guess, better thing for him would be to get in partnership with companies with expertise in field
@@Mr-Gamer-W china don't respect no patents, neither do I to be fair
You have hopefully heard this before, but your intro song just is so brilliant. Instant retro feel-good vibes, super recognizable. Much love to Our Ghosts, he nailed it.
I had this idea since I was in high school, so cool to see someone implement it
Damn. It's like a PSP Go done right!
be carefull, sony might sue for copyright infringement, cos that'd look a hell of a lot like the PSP Go, plus M-con, that name's just yelling, *sue me nintendo*
I saw Josh's video a while ago. So glad you showcased the product. He deserves this attention. Brilliant idea.
I have been following it since he dropped the build video, glad he reached out to you to review it!
Been waiting for this video since Eternal Progression released his video 😎 can’t wait for the kickstarter!
I remember seeing this a wile ago and wondered what happened. Cool to hear they are still goin at it.
Dude I swear your intro song rips me through time back to being a kid, sitting on the couch after everybody went to bed and sitting up late to watch Xplay and catch up on the latest video game trends. What a ride.
I can't wait to watch this when I get home. I tried to make a prototype of something like this, but my giant phone was too heavy. It makes so much more sense for a small phone like that!
Pretty cool. Gonna follow Josh.
Hey Russ, that is cool and i want one. I shall definitely be getting this when it’s available. I imagine some big company is going to partner with him on this. I would. Can’t wait to see the final build.
Brilliant idea and stunning features. This might be something many of us wanted to see for a long time, or even a better version of our dreams, haha. Fingers crossed!
All this need is a way for us to connect our cooler at the back. I can see that there's some space on its back. Hope to see it in the future.
I was sold with just the thumbnail. hope the project gets the support it deserves
I watched Josh's first video about this controller, and I've been excited about it ever since! His passion is so obvious, and it'll definitely translate to a great project.
I'd just say please try to focus also on the motion range of the analog sticks and implementing L3 and R3 as press able buttons for the analog sticks. That would be the absolute game changer!! Im saying tuned for more!
Ohhh I saw the initial videos for this when they first announced it and a really cool idea!
soooo psyched to see you cover this!
The hall sliders from the rp flip will help keep the controller slim.
Finally people realize circle sliders are OP
My dude out here wearing a Belle and Sebastian shirt? Respect
I can’t wait to support Josh what a smart kid and I’m really looking forward to playing games with this thing🤘😎
love this i really hope it come to the market really quick
I've been excited about this since it was teased by the developer a few months back. It's easily the coolest phone controller I've ever seen and I would buy one immediately if it were available now. I'm looking forward to the final product. Thanks for covering it!
Appreciate the way you thought of the problem and solved it
This controller actually looks pretty cool.
All the best to bringing it to the market next year
I have seen josh making this controller and this idea is crazy i mean this will blow up the industry if come to the market at cheap price than other controllers, surely one of the best creations 🔥
I've been keeping my eye on this for a bit now, can't wait to get one when finally released! Thanks Russ.
This is a very impressive controller. Much success to Josh and his team and I hope this makes it into production very soon
Last year UA-cam promotes the UA-camr who made this product, a very talented young guy. I'm glad there are more ppl see his products. Best of luck to his business.
been so excited for this, cant wait for it to come out fr
I've been looking forward to the launch ever since I saw the creator's video showing it.
Thank you for bringing this to people’s eyes! The creator needs all the support they can get.
It's amazing what members of the community can do.
Hopefully he sells matching cases so I can have it connected all the time
Really cool concept, I'd like to see this come into fruition.
Finally. This guy is getting his freak on. Looking forward to this controller.
sticking on with a magnet to the back of your phone case is very clever, and is the exact thing I'd want for mobile gaming.
imagine if this also had a power bank built-in to it as well!
The slide off feature is great for when you get a new phone also instead of having to buy a new controller you just buy the removal piece
@Retro Game Corps please tell this kid to patent this idea while he still can. This is pretty awesome.
Yes, he submitted a patent early this year
can't patent it as it looks the same as the PSP go, and sony won't allow it.
@@Yusei255 I'm not aware of anyone else using the magnets and that flip up style for a controller. Not going by looks alone.
