#Nintendo #3DSLL #Homebrew
it's really cool to have nintendo's entire handheld history playable on one system.
AND it's portable
except switch lol
Plus all 8 bit, all 16 bit and even some 32 bit systems.
For me it's a tie with ps vita, because the n3ds natively runs DS games but ps vita support for ps1 games is much better (pretty much 100%) + psp. For me it all depends on the mood of the day, at least until the Switch is finally cracked for good.
I had to settle for the original 3DS XL but I got it with a non-working game slot at a pawn shop for $30 so...it was a steal since I didn’t plan on using the game slot anyway
I would love to play GBA games on this like in back, old days.
I snagged a like new 3DS LL(older version not "new") for $60 that arrives in a few days. So this video came at a perfect time. Thanks for the great content.
I like your videos.
Nice, i was going to get old 3ds but i saw a new 3ds xl on ebay for 20euros with a black spot on the screen, best deal ever
Tip order at least a 32 gb micro sd
I also got a 3DS XL from Quebec for around $60.
Curious, where did you a find a brand new 3DS LL for cheap?
It makes no sense that the 3DS systems are region-locked when even older Nintendo handhelds were region-free out of the box like the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and the DS.
Being able to use 'nintendo' and 'makes sense' in one sentence is getting more and more difficult each year
I hear somebody say this somewhere, " Nintendo knows how to make games but they dont know how to run a company"
It had to do with game prices in nippon land iirc.
IT makes sense. They are fighting the global selling of used games around the World. What they sell in Europe stays in Europe. What they sell in USA stays in USA. That’s how they can make some more extra profit out of it.
@@letusplay2296 It had a major impact on me because all my games were imported
This is the console that I've been using for homebrew recently. I've had it since launch, though for those buying I'd say beware of some of the issues with this 3ds. I love this console but both me and several others have had the battery become inflated and unusable after use, though you can easily replace it with another 3ds battery. The paint also seems to peel off very easily after using it for a bit. I don't know if later models fix this. Also, be careful taking the back cover off, you can break it very easily if you're too rough. But if you do you won't have to worry about taking the cover off again I guess ;)
I bought a new Pearl White LL about a year ago and looked through the guide to change regions on it. At the time, the guide suggested opening it up, soldering wires to the pads around the internal flash chip, and using a specific SD card reader to write a new flash image. I decided to shelve it until I could get around to designing a flat flex PCB that would slip through the external SD card slot. It has been sitting, disassembled, on my shelf since.
This looks easier. Think I’ll just do this.
How did it go? I’m thinking about doing the same
You Could Have Just Swapped The JPN Motherboard For A NA Reigon One.
It's What I Do
Was that really a 3ds? That sounds extremely similar to the DSi region switching method, and I have never heard of it being used on a 3ds family console
Man I remember when I first installed CFW on my 3DS, back then the process was incredibly difficult and it involved flashing an incredibly old firmware for a bit to allow for an exploit. It took like 5-6 hours to fully install CFW and any little mistake would brick the 3DS and be completely unrecoverable. Pretty amazing to see it brought down to 5 mins!
Installing A9LH made me feel like such a "hacker" lol.
remember gateway?
A9LH kinda sucked tbh....3ds has come a long way since
Not even 5 minutes, the longest part is copying the files over the sd card. The hacking part is about 30 seconds tops ^^
it was surreal having to downgrade your 3ds to ver 2. something as part of the process, it was my first 3ds mod as well and always stuck with me because of this. I was so shook seeing that it now uses a web exlpoit!!
I bought a japanese standard 3ds for an equivalent of 30 dollars on ebay and changed the region to PAL. Probably the best value gaming system
When you change it to pal can you change the menu language aswell?
woah. That's a thing?? Would you buy a to buy a japanese 3ds and change it to NTSC too through modding?
With the PAL firmware does the eshop/multiplayer still works?
I must say, I do appreciate how you and some other UA-camrs qualify their videos with "in 2021" in an effort to make sure if someone finds the video in a few years and things have changed, they don't come complaining to the comments.
ok and
@@oilcans nice try
Not true. Cuz next year, and the next, and the next, they just change the year so you'll still click on it
@@NintenDub I don’t follow. My comment was that sometimes these exploits change. If in 2024, the hack here no longer works, MVG is hedging their bets that someone trying it will hear “2021” and understand that things might have changed.
Living in Japan I used and repaired the LL (dozens now) for years. I loved to see one in the video! Thanks!
That is very cool to see, the 3DS has so many features beyond its past iterations could handle.
*Run "FBI" to Install "CIA" files*
Lmao, I wonder if that was intentional or a superb coincidence.
.CIA was not a joke as it stands for CTR Importable Archive. The FBI program is to install .CIA files, so I doubt that was a coincidence but an intentional joke, but the original .CIA file names actually have a meaning.
@@amihartz That's cool but wait... who usually determines these file names, is it Nintendo or the Homebrew community?
Dependa on it, the switch and 3ds file formats are comming partially from nintendos sdk, partially from the community. .3ds was .csu in the sdk, if I remeber it correctly, while .cia, xci and nsp are all from nintendos official sdks for the 3ds and switch.
@@amihartz Terry A. Davis is probably rolling in his grave because of it.
@@lucmakelele Nintendo
I am so happy to own one of these! I was able to gather all my games from the Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS/DSi and Nintendo 3DS (and besides that, Super Nintendo, Genesis, Master System, Game Gear etc.) into one single quality built portable system. Sure, I love my switch for modern games, but the compactness of the 3DS, low power consumption (4-12 hour on 1750mah battery) and the ease of use is really hard to beat. I really love this thing!
The issue with the 3ds family is the screen quality
The DSI XL has much better screens.
@@mmpsp693 Yes and no. Old 3DS XL has excellent TN panels. New 3DS XL has terrible ones but there are the few models with IPS that are great. Between my DSi XL and my Old 3DS XL, I'd say they're pretty close in terms of color, brightness, and sharpness.
@@punchrockgroin5597 yeah but there's also the bad scaling, so I much prefer the dsi
@@mmpsp693 well, in my childhood, I could choose between the original GameBoy and the Game Gear. Trust me, these screens are fine. 😉 I have very little issue with the New 3DS XL screen. The New 2DS XL however, actually have substantial smearing. which is very apparent on NES-like games (bright colors and sharp contrast edges with smooth scrolling)
@@mmpsp693 I definitely agree with the scaling. it's a shame. But I rather take the 3DS due to the extensive high quality 3DS library of games. GBA had a lot of low res ports with washed out colors, which can often be found on the Virtual Console (with injection). and although the DS had a lot of good games. I don't come back to those as easily today. I'd rather play the native Mario 64 port for 3DS. Mario Kart 7, Mario 3D Land etc. Browser's inside story was re-released for the 3DS as well. The DS was amazing at its time. But Nintendo quickly outshined that format with the 3DS. (For GBA games you can actually play in native resolution and on the XL and the screen size is the same as the original hardware... but I rather take the scaling and larger picture) there's a massive benefit of having all games collect ed on one machine.
Contest has ended. thank you
lets hope i win
@@dermott6645 you won't
Thanks for this mate!, fingers crossed.
Is there any benefit to using a LL for this over XL? I would assume the price is lower but you'd have to import it, no? That would cost a lot in turn.

While I'm a bit reluctant to mod my old 3DS, being able to play GBA games on it is tempting. Excellent video as always, MVG.
It’s really easy now. This is the best and easiest console to hack, imo. You can have access to the whole 3ds library now that the eshop is shut down.

Without a doubt one of the best purchases possible today. I missed the wave of the 3DS initially but grabbed and modded one last August. The game library is literally amazing. The home brew scene is full of great content that makes the console even better that’s made by some very talented people. Overall, this console rocks! Great video as usual
The only downside of the 3ds family always was region lock, really glad that in 2021 this isn't a problem anymore, also its more easier to do now than before and i didn't knew that, i hope to see more homebrew videos of different consoles :d

The 2ds XL is also a beast. Plays everything basically as this one.
They just doesn't have the 3d feature, which is a worthy trade-off
actually the 2ds xl does not in fact run the same games as the model in this video, the New 2ds xl however does, games that don't run on "old" systems but do run on "new" systems include Minecraft, SNES Virtual Console games, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Xenoblade Chronicles, and there are many games, such as Super Smash Bros. 3ds and Pokemon USUM, run better on the "new" systems
@@WhoPlaysTheFool he probably meant new 2ds xl, as there is no old 2ds xl (2ds and new 2ds xl are the only options)
2ds xl and new 2ds xl are the same. 2ds is an old system and 2ds xl is automatically a new system with the extra c stick and new game compatability
it´s basically the same hardware but without stereocopic 3d 🤷♂️
i kinda want to get a 3ds now, ive had about 4 of them and ended up getting rid of them....now ive had a switch for about 3 weeks and im starting to miss the whole ds library. Dont get me wrong the switch is awesome but some of those pokemon games are unbeatable

It actually does output 3D, but the speed and compatibility are really bad, unfortunately. For some reason, the development of it was abandoned in 2015, which is a pity, because there is no better suited screen to run VitrualBoy games, on any system in existence, than the one on a 3DS - it has the right resolution, does not require glasses and will not strain your eyes as much as the red diode arrays on the VirtualBoy would.

Truth be told this is why I subscribed. Had a 3DS XL for a few years now. Very nice little system and of course it also occurred to me all these 'extra' things that may be possible. Of course I never got around to any of that and those pesky little concerns like bricking the thing and all in all this being a fairly 'naughty' business as far as the world is concerned meant I never gave it that much thought. When I found this channel though it reminded me such things were possible and honestly I was waiting for this video. I was fairly sure it wouldn't be that difficult at this point but the way you relate everything is very encouraging and I appreciate you taking the time to do so for us all.
Many cheers my man.
I got the same model and color about a year ago, the 3DS scene is awesome and continues to grow.
I however, chose to do a region change for convenience's sake.

I just stayed up too late last night modding out my Dragon Quest n2DS LL. This or a Vita makes the ultimate portable machine nowadays.
The 2 emulators I’d suggest looking at are mGBA and Virtual Boy. mGBA has save state and such for GBA rather then the real hardware of the VC injections that is barebones. Most games I’ve played other than Monkey Ball Jr have run fine on the ‘new’ model.
Virtual Boy has real stereoscopic 3D and is supposed to run full speed on the ‘new models for Warioland VB and Jack Bros.14
mGBA isn't full speed even on the "new" 3DS models. Just VC inject your GBA games.

I don't have all of the 3DS games installed, but with 128GB i managed to cram everything 3DS that mattered to me, every NDS rom and everything from GB, GBC, NES, SMS, GEN.

MVG you make great content. I hope the support you see on the channel fuels you to keep making amazing vids in the days ahead!
Update: Your video left me wanting a machine to mess with, so a Pearl White LL is on it's way. MVG for President!
I need one of these bad boooooys
Actually just the other day I bought a lot of 14 Dsi LL, from Japan and modded them all to be region free.
I'm worried about 3ds prices now
Dont worry i bought mine at a garage sale with 4 games for 7 dollars. Games: Mariocart 7, pes 2011, cars 2, starwars the complete saga
they're already sky high and have been for months
@ a lady was selling her wii and a 2011 3ds. i didnt know how much a 3ds costed to i haggled it down from 50 dirhams (AED) to 25 (AED) which is round 6-8 dollars
Just snagged one today on GameStop. So excited
It almost feels like more of these are modded than not. I bought a secondhand 2ds XL recently that when I got was already modded lol. Saved me time.
"Accidentally removal of Games". Sure Nintendo sure LMAO
@@loyalmctinfoil accidents happen
@Captain Kirk well yes obviously, it was a mistake, accidents do exist. Nintendo would’ve just stuck with their decision if it was intentional.
"Since september, the entire 3DS family has been discontinued" wait what...? This is breaking news to me, are they ditching literally all of their entire gaming lineup for just the switch??
@@maximumbeans9310 interesting, have they ceased manufacturing entirely or is it a temporary thing...? Any official statement from them?
Yes the DS family has been officially discontinued, the last console being the New 2DS XL, and they are only focussing on Switch now. As far as i know, there's no looking that Nintendo will bring them back.
Unless Nintendo puts in effort to move the digital DS games to Switch, the only way of playing them is with the actual DS consoles (eShop is still up and running and for some reason even tho the consoles have been discontinued, the digital copies of the games are still ridiculously high priced) or through emulators.
I only heard the news a few months ago and decided to invest in a second hand New 2DS XL. If you don't own a 3DS yet, i advice looking into buying one soon since it's off the market and people are Nintendo Nostalgic after last year.
It's a wonderful little console and though the games are incredibly expensive, i'm happy to be able to finally own one. The Switch looks nice and all, but almost everyone agrees the DS family had much more to offer, and had a lot more personality. Quite a shame
@@coolbeans5911 very grim I say. the DS family has something special unlike the boring tablet slab of the switch. the DS is very unique compared to other consoles or handheld for that matter. there are no emulators on earth that is capable of emulating the gaming experience coming from the DS.. it's sad man. it's a dark age as a Nintendo fans. no more innovation being brought to the table.
@@miru2583 agreed, the worst part is that apparently Nintendo has announced that the 3DS eShop won't have credit card support anymore by January 2022 (as far as i understand, that means you won't be able to digitally buy any DS family games on your own console)
This is so frustrating because physical copies are incredibly expensive now and quite hard to come by, and it completely excludes players who recently started their 3DS journey and still want to build their game library (like come on it's SO expensive; i can't afford the most popular games and i was hoping the eShop will still be open for atleast 2years so i could save up for games like Pokemon Sun&Moon, Layton, Mario kart 7, Super Smash etc etc)
Nintendo is just so stupidly disconnected from their fans, incredibly infuriating
@@coolbeans5911 yes. data miner found an evidence in firmware 11.15 that they will eshop credit card payment. it's the last firmware update for the 3ds. most seller jacked up their prices after the news and the 3ds became a collectors items. your money won't go to the dev if you buy physical copy now. the only way to avoid being ripped off is by modding it. I wish they brought back the DS family or at least made a true successor to it. feels sad af
And now, they are charging $300 ... $1000 for them.
this helped me so much in the past , appreciate that a lot. paired with a 128gb micro sd its such a monster.
Hey man, thanks for using resident evil: revelations as the way to show modding, it's good to know people still care about that game...
Next video:
Why I got sued by Nintendo
Its the 3ds.... Nintendo doesn't care.
If it was the switch they would strike the video for sure
