in the history of music, there are a few songs which are not just songs, but fall under being called a masterpiece and this song is one of them. there is nothing special about it but it just so amazing it touches you in ways most song won't. ON top Plant was only about 20yrs old when they came up with this song - compare that to 20yrs old kids today - smh. Most ppl who haven't heard a Led Zeppelin song espeically the youngons, most assume it would be a hard rock type song but its not. Neways, enjoyed ur reaction. YOu should do others like Kashmir
Sooo many good Led Zep songs to react to, shows their huge diversity of sound, and talent. From Good Times, Bad Times, to Since I've Been Loving You, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Whole Lotta Love, Gallows Pole, When the Levee Breaks, Kashmir, Battle of Evermore, Rock & Roll, Thank You, and so many more....
Led Zeppelin 4 was released today November 8th 1971 so this song is now 51 years old today and I’m 54 just to give you some perspective! Enjoy! Also this will sound trivial to some but at 3:07 On here the full sound of the original Jimmy’s guitar and John Paul’s recorders and bass it reminds me of being baptized in the warm water of the church ⛪️ baptismal pool! It takes my breath away!
"I was expecting it to be harder, harder rock." Give it a minute, or two.... :) The song is about the choice to live a material existence or a spiritual one, as exemplified by the two women mentioned in the song. The first one is the "dear lady," who is "buying" a way to what she perceives as "heaven." To her, "all that glitters is gold," and ostentatious consumption (what many today call a "bougie" lifestyle) is the only thing she can recognize as valid and valuable. The second is the "May Queen" -- she's the one, "Who shines white light and wants to show," how real value lies in stillness ("How everything still, turns to gold"), serenity, and peaceful communion with one's fellow man. The key to finding that road lies in following "The piper," who is, "calling you to join him." The Piper is Pan, the Greek god of nature, the forests and fertility. That's the key to the song. It's about the shallow allure of material wealth, as opposed to the deeper rewards received when we connect with our fellow human beings, and the natural world around us. This is the favorite song of the fans, but the band kinda got over it, eventually. The band's favorite song is Kashmir, but don't listen to that one, right away. Explore some of the other tunes -- Black Dog, When the Levee Breaks, The Rain Song, The Immigrant Song (which you'll probably recognize...), Misty Mountain Hop, The Battle of Evermore, Four Sticks -- and then take on Kashmir. This band is brilliant, and it's worth it to enjoy a meandering journey, and save the best for last. :)
Thanks a lot for the breakdown of the lyrics, I totally didn't get it. I have been getting a few suggestions for Kashmir, I'm excited to hear that track.
@@kailamay2278 It's my favorite Led Zeppelin tune. It combines traditional South Asian tunings with hard rock beats and rhythms, in a way that one wouldn't think could ever work, but which delivers an absolutely brilliant experience. I work with a lot of people from India, and when I tell them about the song, they're really, really skeptical. After they hear it, they become enthusiastic fans of the Hammer of the Gods. :)
The song is celtic in nature. It starts out slow and simple. As the song progresses more is added and the tempo gradually increases. Right before you hear the guitar solo you hear a fanfare. Every note you hear in this song was planned out. Led Zeppelin is a mystical band. You HAVE to read the words to this song. It has all sorts of spiritual meanings. Their music quite often touches people beyond intellect, it will touch the soul.
Robert Plant, the vocalist, says he can't relate to the abstract lyrics anymore. He was only 20-21 when this came together. Well, it works for the rest of us! Great listening, Kai!
I agree @luca ...apparently Robert Plant stated that his mother was gypsy (Romany)... (that's why he says he has that thick hair lol)...as a rule Gypsies are known to be soulful musically... in fact I think Roberts daughter Carmen is a gypsy/ belly dancer...😊
I’m retired, and I find the lyric’s inspirational and awesome, to the point of religious revelation. My favorite verse is: “in a tree by the brook there’s a song bird that sings, sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiving.” There is nature and there is man, and we often get it wrong like trying to buy a stairway to heaven. If you don’t believe me, check put Martin Luther, perhaps the most significant thinker and truth teller in the last 1,000 years.
If you don't know Zeppelin, you have no idea the different types of genres they play. Absolutely so versatile and will have something for everyone, they're that talented!

Great song, great band. First concert i attended was Led Zeppelin in 1969. Kai, check out Hearts cover of Stairway To Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors, what a performance.
Interesting you mention swag just after hearing Zepp, wait till you see Robert Plant singing live, hand on hip, pouting and flicking his curly locks. LOL The band mixed it up through their albums, there are gentle acoustic ballads, ballsy blues, banging rockers, funk, spaced out and atmospheric tracks, you name it, they can do it with style. 'Stairway' is one of the most obscure lyrics Robert wrote, he's just trying to evoke that 'Lord of the Rings' kinda vibe, if there actually is any narrative there it's not as important as the mood and atmosphere. Most of their other material, particularly the first few albums is bluesy rock, and songs like 'Whole lotta love' ,'The lemon song' , and 'Dazed and confused' won't leave you guessing, they're about love, lust and heartbreak.
I'm not sure whether else to put this, but seeing the Zep were massive Elvis Presley fans, you should really check out some of the King's music. Starting with one of the greatest performances of all time; "Bridge Over Troubled Water" from 1970.
Elvis is amazing! My grandparents still listen to Elvis so I know some of his songs. Bridge Over Troubled Water sounds familiar but I can't think of the melody.
@@kailamay2278 It was originally recorded by Simon & Garfunkel, which is itself a wonderful version. Elvis' live rendition of the song in 1970 however, is one of the single greatest performances I've ever seen.
You'll be amazed watching the band Heart sing this as a tribute to Led Zeppelin live at the Kennedy Center. With the original members of Led Zeppelin in attendance minus the drummer John Bonham, his son Jason is playing drums in this song. The Obamas are even rocking. You should watch Heart (the Wilson sisters) perform Stairway to Heaven LIVE at the Kennedy Center Honors for the tribute to Led Zeppelin. It is an outstanding live performance.
It's mind-blowing that people are hearing this song for the first time. That isn't bad, it's just an observation. I grew up 45 years ago with this song and this band. They were "pretty" big which is a bit of an understatement to say the least..
#suggestions: the Doors LA Woman, Riders on the Storm, Light My Fire; Bob Dylan Tangled Up In Blue, Blowing in the Wind, Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright; Beatles Here Comes the Sun; Johny Nash I Can See Clearly Now.
Recorded in the Rollibg Stones Mobile Studio. Produced by Jimmy Page. Written by him + Robert Plant. GOAT song of the 1970s. 🐐 Do also react to the Heart cover of Stairway to Heaven. ❤ Surviving members of LZ watched + approved! 😎😎😎😎 #50years this November 2021. 🎂
I heard Morissette Amon 🇵🇭 cover Stairway to Heaven. 🙄 She is a great singer! 😎 But her voice does not match the song: the timbre + feel are off. 🙄 The arrangement is off. 🙄 I heard other covers of STH. Most of them are horrible! 🤮 Gretchen Wilson can do it! 😎 But not as good as her last name namesake. 🙄 Anne Wilson has the voice! 🤯 Heart is the best band to cover the song! 😎😎 The best
You must react to Led Zepplin Whole Lotta Love and Over the Hills Far Away.. to start with..!...,,,,,,Ditto to the last commit..of .Like hearing the song for the first time i agree !
If this one gets you, I'd suggest "Kashmir". In my opinion, and I've been a Zeppelin fan for 50+ years, their best song. "Stairway to Heaven" is an amazing song be it the studio version or any of the live ones. "Kashmir" takes you even further out there. When released on "Physical Grafitti" in 1975 I was a senior in high school and had to have that album, at $14 it was a little costly but well worth it. The studio track is great but any live version of "Kashmir" from 1975, 1979 or even the 2007 version from the "Celebration Day" CD/DVD with Jason Bonham, the original drummers son, filling in for his late father is amazing!
Thanks so much love! Kashmir is on my list, a few people have suggested it so I can't wait to hear it. It's hard to hold out sometimes and not just play the track right away. ❤❤🙏
They were Gods back in the 80s in school. Check out Flames Of Desire by ABC. You may have heard of this band from the 80s. However, this song is from 2016. Their music is completely different to Led Zeppelin.
Hello Kay. I like how you react on videos. Please make a reacting video to a song from the Beatles. Perhaps "Abbey Road medley" "Something", " Here comes the sun", "Don't let me down", "While my guitar gently weeps", "A day in the life"...or one you choose.
Swag? If you think the audio displays Robert's swag, you are in for an electric shock when you see a live show. This tune is killed in the 1973 LIVE MSG NYC version. But Zep came to their pinnacle through blues (Jimmy and Robert were 20s-30s blues freaks; Bonzo a jazz drummer, and John Paul an academically trained multi- instrumentalist) creating BLUES ROCK. And I urge you to check out Since I've Been Loving You (same show). Have tissues and some refreshment handy, you're gonna need 'em. Swag max! Hi from Canada.
You just went through same mind freak and jaw dropping trip that 10s of millions of people have gone through on the first hearing of their magnum opus. Welcome to the club. This human journey is incomplete without hearing stairway. Oh and that swag and charisma in his voice that made you swoon did the same thing to your grandmother 50 years ago. Lol. To be fair pretty much all women felt that way. Women wanted him and dudes wanted to be him. One last thing never play this song in a guitar store. It is forbidden. Can't even speak the name. lol
The studio recording is where the listener gets the true meaning of this song. P.S. see the Heart live cover of Stairway To Heaven (Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin with Robert, Jimmy, and JPJ in the audience minus John Bonham R.I.P.) the tribute song will bring you to tears.
you definitely have to check out the live version from 1973. as good as this is, it's a totally different experience when you see them perform it live.
Thank you for your reaction. A truly remarkable band Robert Plant (singer) and Jimmy Page( guitar) were amazing. If you like guitar masters check out Jeff Healey's See the light.😊
Google what is considered the greatest rock song ever written and you will see this song pop up near or in the top! And the same goes for Led Zeppelin they are considered in the top 3 greatest hand ever!
Buying your stairway to heaven is like throwing your money at something because really trying to fix it is difficult. You look like you care much more than you do. Her stairway lies on the whispering wind but there's time to change the road she's on. It always struck me as a sad song about a woman who "with a word, got what she came for", but may be missing something far greater.
It is almost like hearing this song for the first time when you watch someone like you listen to this classic for the first time.

First off forgive me but I can't help it,it's just me being the full red blooded man I am, "wow your beautiful" ,right the music, this is my all time fav band since I was prob 11/12 years old,I'm such a fan I've read all there's to read about them, plus I've got or watched just about all you can,so if you would do me the honour of at least trying my selection of vids to watch then great, stairway to heaven, since I've been loving you,the ocean, all from the live show the song remains the same, live from msg new York in about 1976,,anyway start from the beginning of there cast record collection all brilliant tracks and all so very diff,oh one more live track from msg concert, the rain song,I'm having it at my funeral,it's my all time fav, keep up good work girl,
Thank you so much! Appreciate the suggestions. That's how I find these awesome tracks. This song is amazing!! Its in a league of it's own!
Aerosmith- Dream on
Righteous Brothers- You've lost that lovin feelin!
Led Zeppelin- Whole lotta love
You should watch Heart (the Wilson sisters) perform Stairway to Heaven LIVE at the Kennedy Center Honors for the tribute to Led Zeppelin. It is an outstanding live performance.
It's mind-blowing that people are hearing this song for the first time. That isn't bad, it's just an observation. I grew up 45 years ago with this song and this band. They were "pretty" big which is a bit of an understatement to say the least..
They are so talented! There's so much to take in, you'd have to listen to it a hundred times to take everything in.
They were even bigger 55 years ago... believe me.
Today you have tunes....Back then you had Music
#suggestions: the Doors LA Woman, Riders on the Storm, Light My Fire; Bob Dylan Tangled Up In Blue, Blowing in the Wind, Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright; Beatles Here Comes the Sun; Johny Nash I Can See Clearly Now.
Should have watched this live from Madison Square Garden!!
You have to listen to this live at Madison Square garden. The guitar solo is insane
No way in the world is the live version better then this the studio version...with the POWER of JB on drums
Studio Version is the Gold Standard
Fuuuuuuck that. Don’t ever review live performances. They’re ALWAYS inferior to the album version.
Tangerine is another great one from led zeppelin.
Led Zep: whole lot of love😍
Recorded in the Rollibg Stones Mobile Studio. Produced by Jimmy Page. Written by him + Robert Plant.
GOAT song of the 1970s. 🐐
Do also react to the Heart cover of Stairway to Heaven. ❤ Surviving members of LZ watched + approved! 😎😎😎😎
#50years this November 2021. 🎂
Thanks love, I'm excited to hear the Heart cover. A few people have mentioned it so it must be really good.
I heard Morissette Amon 🇵🇭 cover Stairway to Heaven. 🙄 She is a great singer! 😎 But her voice does not match the song: the timbre + feel are off. 🙄 The arrangement is off. 🙄
I heard other covers of STH. Most of them are horrible! 🤮
Gretchen Wilson can do it! 😎 But not as good as her last name namesake. 🙄
Anne Wilson has the voice! 🤯 Heart is the best band to cover the song! 😎😎
The best
don't be afraid of that volume control.
Too loud or too quiet?
USED TO PARTY ALOT TO THIS IN MY TEENS,,NOW IN EARLY 60s,, OH WAIT I STILL DO,,,,,LOL
👏👏👏 Love it!!!
You must react to Led Zepplin Whole Lotta Love and Over the Hills Far Away.. to start with..!...,,,,,,Ditto to the last commit..of .Like hearing the song for the first time i agree !
The one thing that doesn't belong in your mouth is words!
What the hell does that even mean ?
I'm subscribing because you are beautiful ☺️And because of LZ of course...and I hope in near future... because of The Doors 😉Keep it up girl👍🏼
Thank you so much!! ❤❤🙏
@@kailamay2278 You welcome 😉
They were Gods back in the 80s in school. Check out Flames Of Desire by ABC. You may have heard of this band from the 80s. However, this song is from 2016. Their music is completely different to Led Zeppelin.
Yep, and thay were Gods in the 1960's and 1970's before that even... (showing my age.)
led zeppelin whole lotto love plz
Love seeing minds get blown listening to this first time..... happened to me age 19! Heard of the tune but never "really" heard it!
This song is really on a different level. It's sooo good!!!!
U have to watch the live version
Thanks a lot love. I really appreciate the suggestions. This song is amazing!!! I have to hear more Led Zeppelin.
Have to do Since I've Been Loving You - live 1973
Damn i am in love
❤❤❤🙏
You have to watch this LIVE!
Can't even speak the name. lol
Haha true! Thanks love, It's an awesome song!!!
Try Nightwish Ghost love score Live @ tampere
I have a Neighbor who could pass as your twin!
Both of you, Beautiful! ✌✌ and 💕💕
Great job!
Kudos!
Try Whole Lotta Love, Rock and Roll, and Black Dog, all classics
Thanks love! I'm excited for Whole Lotta Love, a few people have suggested it.
Ten years gone studio version
Keep listening to them its a life journey gal
Awesome reaction
Welcome to masters of music....
You must listen to "Kashmir "
When the levee breaks "
"Immigrant song" etc
The studio recording is where the listener gets the true meaning of this song. P.S. see the Heart live cover of Stairway To Heaven (Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin with Robert, Jimmy, and JPJ in the audience minus John Bonham R.I.P.) the tribute song will bring you to tears.
you definitely have to check out the live version from 1973. as good as this is, it's a totally different experience when you see them perform it live.
Thank you for your reaction. A truly remarkable band
Robert Plant (singer) and Jimmy Page( guitar) were amazing. If you like guitar masters check out Jeff Healey's See the light.😊
Eow and we you are good looking greatest band ever
“Ramble On” and “Thank you” are just two of my favorites, but they have many many more great songs. Though I think you would appreciate these 2
Thanks love
Google what is considered the greatest rock song ever written and you will see this song pop up near or in the top! And the same goes for Led Zeppelin they are considered in the top 3 greatest hand ever!
Buying your stairway to heaven is like throwing your money at something because really trying to fix it is difficult. You look like you care much more than you do. Her stairway lies on the whispering wind but there's time to change the road she's on. It always struck me as a sad song about a woman who "with a word, got what she came for", but may be missing something far greater.
