  • Metal Detecting Tips and Tricks - In this video the History Digger shares how he uses the six inch coil with his Minelab Equinox 800 along with using the accept/reject feature to discriminate out unwanted trashy target IDs. He provides a walk-through demonstration and then tests the setup on some local parks in Madison Wisconsin. He also uncovers one of the season's most unique finds....come along and let's see what we can discover together.

    Thanks for watching. Again - this is an approach for U.S. based, trashy parks. It's primarily intended to target coins when one has limited time to hunt and YES, you may miss some non-coin targets with lower ID/VDI numbers. Also remember the unicyclist and park concert...let us know some of the strangest things you've encountered while detecting. Happy digging!

    Great information! Wish our clad was copper based so it would work here. Only pennies and silver give the good tones here coin wise. We can dig the nickel and clad steel change but requires different techniques as it bounces around and into iron territory. At the lake, I got a strong -8 in Park 1 so I knew it was likely a clad steel loonie, which it turned out to be. The first CDN penny you dug was a zinc one, ringing up 19-20 and I believe the second one looked like copper. They ring 25-27 and higher sometimes. We went zinc with those in 1997 then got rid of it altogether after 2013, thank goodness! I feel bad for you guys having almost 40yrs of zincolns to dig. TC&HH!

    This setting may be good for coins or silver hunting, but if you pass your coil on some of the tiny gold or low carat gold target, you will definitely miss it. Thanks for sharing that with us.

    Grew up in Northeast PA, never heard them called buckeyes we knew them as horse chestnuts 🌰 same vein of name. Our had spikes. We had battles with them as kids. We all survived, no one lost an eye. Rode our Chopper Bicycles without helmets too. Simpler times with bigger scrapes. Great video. I don’t have the same detector but I get the reason for the settings. I’ll take my chances missing items to not dig so much junk.

    I guarantee you would have found some deep old coins or silver on the settings you had. That 6" coil on my Nox 600 has found me some deep coin size targets and several rings, such as a small child's vintage silver ring at 8" deep. That 6" coil doesn't mess around. Your settings are great for parks that you think may be old, but know that there will be a lot of trash as well. Hitting high tones and discriminating low tones is a good way to find old silver quickly, to give you a general idea of how old the park/place is. Happy Hunts. _/

    Hello History Digger. Thanks for the great video. I was wondering if the laws in the USA are the same as the laws in the UK. Here you just about have to have permission to detect anywhere. What's it like in the USA with regards to property the public uses etc. In the UK its a struggle to get permission to detect on public used land as its owned by the local council authority. I love metal detecting but had I known the hassles in this regard I don'
    t think I would have started.

    • @TheHistoryDigger1
      @TheHistoryDigger1  3 роки тому

      Hi John, Great question. No they are a bit different here and vary greatly by county. Most state parks do not allow detecting but most county and city parks do. One has to research their web sites or call the local city office or rec department. Water ways are also tricky. Most riverbeds can be detected but inland lake water detecting laws vary by state and of course we also need permission to detect on private property. We don't have local finds officers nor the same rules regarding insurance, oversight and disposition of property. I hope to make it over to one of your larger, UK seeded hunts in 2021!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
