Hi Larry, John "The Nuts" Gomez here to let you know that this video is great, I seen this a year age and I didn't reply and I should have:-). This is the best break down and explanation of how to recover deep targets. The low and slow recovery speed adjusted to 1 recovery and FE to 0 was spot on and not always for all locations, like you said parks as an example:-). Thank you again, The Nuts!
@Linno-z7l 22 minutes ago A very useful tip I was told by a friend, is when pinpointing with the Garrett handheld pin pointer (or any pin pointer) to save getting back on your feet to re-locate a target with your metal detector (target may be out of handheld pointer range) if you use your digging tool as an aerial by placing the tip of digger on the top of the pin pointer and sliding it down until pointer starts to 'chirp' then back it off to silence it you gain much more depth than by normal use - Very useful especially if you are getting on in years - Cheers Linno
Just finished reading my Minelab Equinox 800 manual, I can't wait to start hunting. One thing I noticed was when you were setting your iron Fe setting to zero you forgot to press the accept/ reject button which takes you to the F2 Iron setting which detects a wider range and some iron the the Fe iron setting doesn't per the Manual. Have to remember that the F2 settings work best when doing all metal mode with iron tone audible which you stated you would be doing. Also ground balance auto tracking is the default and recommended for when gold prospecting and manual ground balancing is not in the advanced settings. Sorry as I'm not trying to be critical because it is a lot to comprehend let alone explain which you did a great job but it's also important for new people to fully understand all of theses various settings and how to use them to our advantage. Very nice video.
Interesting video. Just curious if you have a test garden. I would recommend using the threshold at an just audio level. When a target gets beyond the “faint signal “ and the detector does not give you an audio response you still could catch it with a “ghost whisper” which you will hear as a break in your threshold. Just a friendly tip. I’ve been able to get silver with my nox 800 at 14 inches. Appreciate your video , thanks for sharing.

With manual ground balancing I tend to get inconsistent values that sometimes range a lot just like you experienced at 7:23 and 6:54 in the same quiet locations. Which value should I use?
Question for you, sometimes when I noise cancel it will display a number say 7 for example after the noise cancel is complete, if I noise cancel again right after the first time, it will display a number say -7 or -6 (negative numbers), why would the numerical display for noise cancel be different for each time even though I'm in the exact same spot and doing noise cancel twice in a row?
Thanks for your video, I use use field 2 on my 800, and I`ve found deep good targets found using 10khz & then tested the same good deep target using multi & on quite a few occassions the multi hasnt picked it up, I`ve tried this a number of times, I also told a fellow detectorist this & he said that shouldnt of happened.
I watch this video almost a year ago and it was helpful then... and I just rewatched it today and I picked up a couple things that I missed the first time ....and I'll tell you why.... I hear many equinox users pushing hard on that 4K... And I think single frequency is great and certain situations... they don't have that in Beach mode just multi so I've never really used it.... And to be honest I upgraded one of my 800s to the latest version.. and I really didn't like it so I took it back down to the previous version.... So multi is what I used cuz of the beach... But recently I've started doing some inland searching here in Florida so it will be helpful possibly some scenarios...great video..... I'm looking forward to the new release from minelab for the new equinox. Good luck and happy hunting.
Texas just proved existence in America for over 20,000 years. Think Idaho could have have had been occupied for a lot longer than petro think. Im not trying to be disrespectful, you’re great and videos has helped me a great deal Sir. Just letting you know about the find in Texas about 40 miles north of Austin Tx. Ty
Do you know the best optimal setting for the equinox? and also how do you decipher between a pull tab and a nickel? a ring or foil? and a coin or just junk?
If you're hunting in multi frequency and get an ID number that sounds good.. let's say between 10 and 15 or seventeen, (Wich would be gold ranges and foil ranges,) Change your frequency to 4 khz or 5 khz. If it really is a good target the ID number stays about the same. If it's a pull tab, foil or bottle cap, the ID numbers will jump really high over 20. This helps me a lot. I do this all the time. Try it next time you're out. Good luck.
@@seamontas What are your tips and tricks to find rings with the nox? My issue is that gold goes from 1 to 25. I feel really discouraged and hope you have some tips to dig less foil and junk and more rings. Silver rings seem easier to me because I will dig up anything solid from 20 to 40. I hope that I can finally find a ring and get some more hope in the hobby. Im sick of foil foil foil and pull tabs pull tabs pull tabs
@@debe8110 Here is an excellent video on gold rings that gives you a great idea on gold ring signals. It's on you tube. MINELAB EQUINOX 800 TEST ON OVER 130 RINGS AND JEWELRY.
Love the Bear 💪 another great tip on hunting that I use often is when I get a good tone I want to dig I lift my coil off the ground if the sound goes away I know that it is a deep target
I just got a used 800. It's chirping like crazy in my back yard, I did a factory reset, noise cancel and ground balance with no luck. I live in a rural area, so not a lot of power lines or interference. Tried in several parts of my 1 acre yard. Cable is wound tight and screwed in tight. I've removed the coil cover and thoroughly cleaned it and the coil. I've tried changing channels and none make it quiet. The only thing that helps is to lower the sensitivity to 7 or 8 and then it's quiet, but I've just lost a lot of depth. I've put my phone on airplane mode with no luck. I also updated the firmware which was really old, but that didn't help either. Thoughts?
James, try downgrading to 2.0 firmware and then do a factory preset. Join Sod Busters Metal Detecting Facebook group so it is easier to communicate we will see if we can figure this out.
All metal has no discrimination as all of the graph is active. The Iron bias when set to one will still give a reading on iron but won't sound on the rejected numbers
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting Thank you for taking the time to answer.I have never had the chance to hunt relics, just old parks.Without trying bias one or all metal how would I know if I’m missing something.I find the contemporary alloys anyway on no iron.I will try bias 1 in spring.I believe in my situation that it will be about the same. Thanks again.for the help.
It really depends on your preference, I really don't like going higher than 3 or 4 but if it is really trashy, I recommend putting on the 6" coil so you have better target separation.
Hi mate good videos you explain stuff well I have got one question do you have to ground balance the machine every time you turn it on or once it’s balanced will it save for you to not do it again thanks
In most cases you don't even need to ground balance unless you are in a highly mineralized area. If you ground balance I recommend you ground balance every so often as the ground changes from one spot to another so you may need to gb throughout the day even.
How are you my friend?, I realized you forgotten to tell people about the iron biased F2 settings you got it on but anyways thank you for the video and you have a wonderful day
No my friend I mean F2, but it's not the big deal anyways everyone has to use different settings according to their own territory, thank you for your videos and you have a wonderful and blessed day my friend and happy hunting.
thanks for the great content . Nice to see and hear good it to learn from this with my 800 that I just get. I am new here in this scene but I learned a lot. Greetings from the Netherlands.
dose the 600 have the same setting options as the 800? When using multi freq dose having the extra 20,40 of the 800 help? I'm getting ready to buy one and if I go with the 600 I don't want to later regret that I did not buy the 800. Your tips are great and will come in handy when I do get my new detector.
I would recommend going with the 800 if you can. It is a more versatile machine and the added frequency are a benefit. You can find a link in the description.
How often do you charge the battery on it? Like if I go out with a fully charged battery and I'm only out for one hour then do I recharge it or will it create a memory
I usually hunt 4-10 hours and will charge at the end of the day but it isn't recommended to leave it plugged in after it has a full charge as it basically cooks the battery
Hello, thank you very much for the informed videos you upload, I have a question for you about your experience with the two Minelab metal detectors. My question is: Can you provide me with settings of Minelab Equinox 800 only for native gold in the river and on the shore, which settings are analogous to the depth as of Minelab gold monster 1000 thank you in advance
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the Gold Monster so I can't really give you comparisons. The equinox has 2 gold prospecting modes and is very sensitive to even the smallest pieces. Both the depth and setting will be dependent on the ground conditions and the coil you use.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to explain these settings. I detect at the beach and just want to make sure the lower recovery speed will be okay at 1 or should it be higher in that kind of mineralization. Thank you!
P1 is a lower frequency than p2 same with field 1 and field 2. Park 1 and to have the most discrimination to try and eliminate pull tabs and bottle caps and such
For a coin size object with the 11 inch coil you can expect 12 inches in the right conditions, the 15 inch coil will give you about 15-18 depending on the ground conditions.
Another great video! I have been using Andy Sabisch's book lately and there is some great info in there too. But your videos are so damn helpful. By the time I got his book I was able to skim through the first part of the book because you had already taught me about all the buttons and advanced settings.
Hi Sodbuster! I have an issue with a surfing beach I go to. I know there's stuff there because surfers lose stuff all the time and nobody ever detects there. I get heaps of coins and rings at a nearby swimming beach but this one is a surfing beach and every time I go there it's just nothing nothing nothing. So I watched your video about trying to increase the depth. It's very sandy and with the constant waves pounding and even typhoons I'm guessing everything is down deep. I did what you said, all metal, ground balance but I really feel like my ground balancing doesn't work. Then I set the recovery level to 1 and then my equinox 800 starts acting weird. A loud noise in the middle of every swing. So I set it back to recovery level 6 and walk along getting nothing. It's driving me crazy this beach and I feel like smashing my equinox! It seems I'm doing everything in your video perfectly but it just doesn't feel right. Then I go to the swimming beach on factory settings and get lots of stuff .... Frustrating 🙂
What mode are you using? I am guessing you have a high concentration of iron sands in that location, so ground balance is important. Are you using beach 1 or 2? I'm not a beach hunter but I am hearing beach hunters say beach 1 for dry sand and beach 2 for wet. Bring your recovery speed to a stable setting so you don't get falsing and you might even try different single frequencies to see if one will serve you better in that location. Also how high are you running your sensitivity?
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting thanks mate. I decided to switch locations and went to another beach. I tried using different recovery settings and different frequencies but I just couldnt pick up anything there. I've had really good success at another beach this week though. Thanks for the tip I didn't know the difference between beach 1 and 2 before. Cheers!
Great video always learning. It is also good to revisit before spring. That being said I was out in the snow trying the new settings. I am going to run park 1 and Field 2 in the same locations and see what pops up. I use the Field 2 settings and found two dimes and three more pennies, but the location is the size of 1/2 a football field. I do have one question about the saved settings. When we save a setting is that for all 8 search profiles or just the location the profile that was changed. Also when we start the 800 do I need to press the user profile button or will the program start with the boot up. Thank you for the videos and help
This is the first video I have watched of yours but I use my detector on the beach will all the same exact settings for at the beach normally I run mine at Iron by 6 and Recovery speed at 6 sensitivity about 20 Beach mode 2 but I still haven't found my first gold ring been at about 30 times and still haven't found too much quarters nickels dimes fine it's very frustrating spending three to four hours hunting and not coming up with the gold what do you suggest anything different
Just a comment about your suggested advanced settings. Having tried what you recommend about setting full on iron etc, I tried this and found one major problem, the Nox now finds much more, but most is just trash. If detecting in areas where there is an abundance of trash, I would not set my machine up as you suggest or you'll be doing a lot of useless digging!
This video is to show how to get maximum depth. At the end of the video i explain that these settings will not work in trashy areas. Thanks for watching

What would you use 4 or 5 hurtz for? Thanks
That would be for larger deep targets
With manual ground balancing I tend to get inconsistent values that sometimes range a lot just like you experienced at 7:23 and 6:54 in the same quiet locations. Which value should I use?
Try lowering the sensitivity down after locating a quiet spot then groud balance
Emi changes constantly so each time you noise cancel it is choosing the quietest channel of what it reads

Any idea where I can find the RED piece attached to the your coil and shaft?
Ebay carry them. Search minelab equinox 800 coil tab strengthener
Lar, can you turn down the volume on the pinpoint?
I never thought about that but I don't believe so.
Nice, these type of tests tell the story. Happy hunting

Will I pick up deep targets on the beach or surf water???
Yes

Where did you get your ears saver for your coil the red device?
Texas just proved existence in America for over 20,000 years. Think Idaho could have have had been occupied for a lot longer than petro think. Im not trying to be disrespectful, you’re great and videos has helped me a great deal Sir. Just letting you know about the find in Texas about 40 miles north of Austin Tx. Ty
Do you know the best optimal setting for the equinox? and also how do you decipher between a pull tab and a nickel? a ring or foil? and a coin or just junk?
If you're hunting in multi frequency and get an ID number that sounds good.. let's say between 10 and 15 or seventeen, (Wich would be gold ranges and foil ranges,)
Change your frequency to 4 khz or 5 khz. If it really is a good target the ID number stays about the same. If it's a pull tab, foil or bottle cap, the ID numbers will jump really high over 20. This helps me a lot. I do this all the time. Try it next time you're out. Good luck.
@@seamontas Thank you so much I appreciate that I will be doing that very much now.
@@seamontas What are your tips and tricks to find rings with the nox? My issue is that gold goes from 1 to 25. When I ground balance, should I set my coil on the ground? or leave 1 inch espace between my coil and the dirt?
Watch this video I explain the ground balance ua-cam.com/video/Nb1gGWyFp_g/v-deo.html
Does the iron bias at” 1”and leaving all metal setting on have the same effect?
Thats a great question, I have thought a ought that and need to see if there would be a difference.
Helpful video. What recovery settings do you use in heavy iron? I mean homesite machine gun nails everywhere iron? Thanks
How are you my friend?, I realized you forgotten to tell people about the iron biased F2 settings you got it on but anyways thank you for the video and you have a wonderful day

dose the 600 have the same setting options as the 800? When using multi freq dose having the extra 20,40 of the 800 help?
I'm getting ready to buy one and if I go with the 600 I don't want to later regret that I did not buy the 800.
Your tips are great and will come in handy when I do get my new detector.
I would recommend going with the 800 if you can. It is a more versatile machine and the added frequency are a benefit. You can find a link in the description.
Off subject. When you tighten the bolt on the coil, does the ear stiffener keep the bolt from tightening enough to keep the coil from flopping?
No I haven't had an issue with it
How often do you charge the battery on it? Like if I go out with a fully charged battery and I'm only out for one hour then do I recharge it or will it create a memory
I usually hunt 4-10 hours and will charge at the end of the day but it isn't recommended to leave it plugged in after it has a full charge as it basically cooks the battery

Hello, thank you very much for the informed videos you upload, I have a question for you about your experience with the two Minelab metal detectors.
My question is: Can you provide me with settings of Minelab Equinox 800 only for native gold in the river and on the shore, which settings are analogous to the depth as of Minelab gold monster 1000
thank you in advance
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the Gold Monster so I can't really give you comparisons. The equinox has 2 gold prospecting modes and is very sensitive to even the smallest pieces. Both the depth and setting will be dependent on the ground conditions and the coil you use.
Excellent video
Thank you for sharing info.
Thank you, I appreciate you watching
Thanks, May i ask how can thease settings be saved to the detector
Great info im still learning and I will try this thank u!

Great video. Thanks for taking the time to explain these settings. I detect at the beach and just want to make sure the lower recovery speed will be okay at 1 or should it be higher in that kind of mineralization. Thank you!
1 should work just be sure to slow your sweep speed also.
Okay great thanks. I'll give it a try out here on the FL treasure coast. Happy new year!
if you can get a faint target to repeat, but no number shows up, would you dig it, or would you think it is a ghost signal?
If a signal is repeatable I would dig. Some targets are to deep to read a vdi# and could be the oldest coin you ever dug.
what is the difference between field 1 and field 2, or park 1 and park 2?
P1 is a lower frequency than p2 same with field 1 and field 2. Park 1 and to have the most discrimination to try and eliminate pull tabs and bottle caps and such
sir i have a question how deep that will detect or will be detecting in 6 meters deep?
For a coin size object with the 11 inch coil you can expect 12 inches in the right conditions, the 15 inch coil will give you about 15-18 depending on the ground conditions.
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting thank you very much sir

Another great video! I have been using Andy Sabisch's book lately and there is some great info in there too. But your videos are so damn helpful. By the time I got his book I was able to skim through the first part of the book because you had already taught me about all the buttons and advanced settings.
Awesome Joseph, I am glad I was able to help. Find a pot of gold my friend
What do you mean by "keeping your detector stable"?
Cheers!
I am wondering if the beaches are being hunted by other detectorist making it hard to find targets there?
Great video always learning. It is also good to revisit before spring. That being said I was out in the snow trying the new settings. I am going to run park 1 and Field 2 in the same locations and see what pops up. I use the Field 2 settings and found two dimes and three more pennies, but the location is the size of 1/2 a football field. I do have one question about the saved settings. When we save a setting is that for all 8 search profiles or just the location the profile that was changed. Also when we start the 800 do I need to press the user profile button or will the program start with the boot up. Thank you for the videos and help
Only the location of the profile you set it in
Great tutorial
Thank you
Is there a way to have the tones to sound the same when one is in a different settings,Park 1 Field 2 etc.?
You can customize the tones to what you want in the advanced settings
ua-cam.com/video/Rc0BHQGKzWs/v-deo.html
This is the first video I have watched of yours but I use my detector on the beach will all the same exact settings for at the beach normally I run mine at Iron by 6 and Recovery speed at 6 sensitivity about 20 Beach mode 2 but I still haven't found my first gold ring been at about 30 times and still haven't found too much quarters nickels dimes fine it's very frustrating spending three to four hours hunting and not coming up with the gold what do you suggest anything different
It just depends on the soil/sand conditions. If the gold isn't there you won't find it. Try different areas and be patient.
Very GOOD TIPS. THANKS !!!!!
Thank you for watching
Just a comment about your suggested advanced settings. Having tried what you recommend about setting full on iron etc, I tried this and found one major problem, the Nox now finds much more, but most is just trash. If detecting in areas where there is an abundance of trash, I would not set my machine up as you suggest or you'll be doing a lot of useless digging!
This video is to show how to get maximum depth. At the end of the video i explain that these settings will not work in trashy areas. Thanks for watching
What should be done to find the target in 15 feet depth one target has silver and 1 target has gold
You would need ground penitrating radar. A metal detector won't reach those depths.
