Ed I recommend spending time on pinpointing skills to reduce target recovery time. I see many using new, powerful handheld pinpointers with features that are largely misunderstood and seldom used. Sensitivity for example, is usually adjustable and most seem to run wide open all the time. When you see someone struggle to recover a target in a hole, they’re usually using their pinpointer on high sensitivity and get numerous signals around the hole. It takes a split second to bump the sensitivity down and you can do it without removing the probe from the hole. Reducing sensitivity will allow you to find the target faster with smaller holes. Rule of thumb: the closer you get to the target, the lower the sensitivity should be to precisely locate it.

Awesome instructional video. My Nox 600 arrives Friday, and I’m switching over from the Omega 8000. It’s definitely going to be different! Thanks for showing me everything in depth.
Great vid thanks, I've just got a 800 and find it jumps around a lot but the fields I'm doing were very often old hop gardens where there would have been all sorts of iron used and discarded.
That was a impressive video. That info in the beginning about what each program is geared for is interesting. I will definitely have to do more research on the programs. Dude you are such a great teacher how you explain. I saw a video from derek in FL. Where he was detecting near some metal beach chairs and he paused how to discriminate the beach chairs and was able to detect without the detector picking up the chairs. I think he detected the chairs first to see what number it came in as then made adjustments so it wouldn't pick up the chairs. Do you have a video like that? You earned a new sub.

Thanks for the video man. By the way.."iron bias" FE and F2 only run separately, one at a time.. so for example, if you set F2 at 2 last, your machine is running in F2 mode for your iron bias setting. You may have already figured this out by now, but thought I would let you know.. happy hunting and good luck. Stay blessed my friend.

Good video Ed. As you can see I'm a new post within the last 6 months from your last post on this thread, meaning that this is a good archive information video for people who just purchased the Equinox. Still getting use to the shifting VDI's on this machine, and pretty much dig all good signals if you want to find gold. Used the AT Pro for three years with success in plenty of coin and silver with solid VDI's on targets but no gold. Bought the 800 because the PRO was horrible on salt water and black sand and already found gold twice on my first two hunts in a park...Luck? Maybe, but it already paid for the machine. :-) Thank again for the good video.
Thank you very much! Let me know when you get ready for that 800 and I will work you out a good deal! Yes... you never truly know for sure until you dig it!

The Equinox 800 is an excellent all around machine... highly recommended! I will be happy to talk more in detail about if you want to give me a call... just contact me through Treasure Mountain Metal Detectors
Great video but was wondering why ground balance when the manual says to keep it at zero unless you are at the beach or prospecting one of the two I don't remember which?

Hi Ed. I liked the video, thanks. Not sure but thought that when you noise cancel the Nox you are supposed to do so holding it out in front of you vs keeping it on the ground?
Thank you for the comment! Yes ... actually in the manual it tells you to hold the coil away from the ground which works fine. I had experimented around with holding it away from the ground and on the ground. The detector seemed to run a little more stable (not so noisy) when I hold the coil to the ground during the noise cancel. I think it basically just comes down to preference or maybe even how strong the emi is different areas. Try both methods on your next hunt and let me know what you think?
Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! You can manually adjust disc however the iron disc by pushing the horseshoe button cannot be adjusted to my knowledge... I think its kinda like the iron audio on the Garrett machines... when pressed you hear the iron grunt when not pressed you dont hear it.
Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! I highly recommend the Minelab Equinox and whenever you get ready please give me a call!
I was recommended to get the 600 as an entry level detector. Considering the 800. So I’m hoping others can advise and how to learn to decipher information?
First video of yours that i saw Ed was swinging a Garrett AT Pro. It was a "dime every time" and i knew i had to have one! Then i saw you swinging the Equinox 800 and i knew i had to have one! What's a fellow to do?! Thanks for the great tips and your positive attitude. I'm in Michigan and lean toward the 600 but there are gold mines in our upper peninsula so the 800 might be better. But i'm not sure what kind of landscapes would hold it.
John, I can go into a lot more detail with you on which metal detector would be best for your area and type of hunting... please feel free to give me a call sometime at Treasure Mountain Detectors. Also.. I can work you out a good deal too!
Ed, love your work on these videos. I have a question no one can answer for me ..... since you can run the iron sound down so low with the Equinox, why not just search with the horseshoe button on in all iron, instead of just checking with it? I would think hearing all the iron in the ground would be a bonus. Thanks in advance Ed.
Yes... that is exactly the way I hunt... I run 50 tones with the all metal activated at all times... you can really pick out those solid tones that way!
@@edhuffmanmetaldetecting Thanks Ed, I think the Equinox is also accurate calling iron and only gets fooled once in awhile by a curly 200 year old square nail or one with a big head. Generally it calls iron accurately so I run all metal too. I hunt colonial sites with heavy square nails and the Equinox has been a game changer for me in New England. Thanks again Ed !!

Great instructional video! Thanks! I just started detecting with an Ace 300 in Daytona Beach and am already looking to trade up to a Nox 600 to get wet.
Thank you for the comment! Let me know when your ready and I will be happy to work you out a good deal!
Thanks for the info. I have been thinking about getting a 800
The Equinox 800 is an excellent all around machine... highly recommended! I will be happy to talk more in detail about if you want to give me a call... just contact me through Treasure Mountain Metal Detectors
Great video but was wondering why ground balance when the manual says to keep it at zero unless you are at the beach or prospecting one of the two I don't remember which?
Ed you are amazing, thank you for your knowledge and guidance, I have the AT Max the Nox 800 and just bought the Xp Deus and love all 3
Thank you for the comment and kind words! Those are my favorite detectors as well and also the XP ORX... which I just did a video on yesterday! They all are excellent all around metal detectors!
Thumbs Up, i use the same Setup xD and i love also all xD
Very informative video. Looking forward to an advanced skills video. Bought my 600 from Heath and loving it!
Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! That 600 is hard to beat for the price!

@@edhuffmanmetaldetecting That would be great, but unfortunately I live in Europe so that's not very handy.

Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support!
Really useful vid man thx
Try both methods on your next hunt and let me know what you think?
can you manually adjust iron disc. in all modes on the nox?
Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! You can manually adjust disc however the iron disc by pushing the horseshoe button cannot be adjusted to my knowledge... I think its kinda like the iron audio on the Garrett machines... when pressed you hear the iron grunt when not pressed you dont hear it.
Very helpful. I’m a beginner and no one explains the reasons for the features just assume you know what they are for. Thanks. I’m subscribed now.
Thank you very much and welcome to the channel!
Great Vid
Any video on the equinox 900

Thank you for the comment and good luck!
Hope that you had a good set of holidays '23.
We miss you. Hurry back.
These are my favorite videos, Ed! This was really good information. I hope to be able to buy an Equinox next year. Thanks for sharing.
Hell yeah man!
Thanks 🍻
Thank you George and welcome to the channel!
Nice video I just subscribe to your channel you are an easy explanation guy 👍
Thank you for the comment and welcome to the channel!
Hi Ed, thanks for the video. Are you hunting with steal cap boots? Was wondering it causes issues with the metal detector?
No steel cap boots... it will definitely interfere with the detector
