Hello! Can you share the best cargo crate size for corgi? (Not the steel crate)

I've been using a crate to help my corgi potty train. But he keeps associating a rug or carpet as his spot. Even taking him out of crate after a nap and walking him for 20bmin he wont go pee...until he comes inside to the carpet.
Any tips on how I can clearly communicate that this is not the right spot?
