I forgot to mention that the SBR came from the factory at 26 thou BTE. In my opinion that is way too thick for the size of the knife.

Protech is the shit. Dave, the owner, is a great guy and has personally e mailed me about questions I had about his blades. Great customer service and warranty.
I am a huge fan of Microtech’s LUDT knives. My first was in S35VN (made 01/12). I carried that for years and opened it thousands of times without an issue. It came with an excellent edge and was easy to sharpen to a hair popping edge.
It seems like Microtech forgot about the LUDT for a while and it was impossible to find any new ones. I was very happy when I found the newer version in Elmax (made 10/15), even though Elmax isn’t my favorite steel. The 2015 model has the larger pivot hardware and the rounded edges that make this version much nicer to hold. They also raised the spine and added jimping for a thumb rest. The old version is flat with no jimping.
Of course Microtech had to release a LUDT with M390, which is one of my favorite steels. I guess I’ll have to get another one when it comes out in Magnacut. 😂
Great info! And thank u. I’m look at getting a LUDT
For side opening autos, Protech is the King. OTFs, Microtech is the Emperor. Awesome video!
Very informative and honest. Thanks
ManyThanx, Good Review!!!!
Good Review!!,!! ManyThanx!!!
As some one who owens both and having sent both in for repairs. Protech byfar is the more costumer friendly of the two.
Protech was more friendly and communicated more, but in the end the both were great
@@itsaknifestyle8482 Wish I had gotten a Protech PDW Invictus. What a nice piece.
For me (owning both) what would decide it if I could only carry one, the Protech’s pocket clip. Also the warranty (I’ve read) is pretty decent.
At 1:40 you mentioned the pushing down of the LUDT blade. Can you push it down far enough where the blade impacts the aluminum?
Protech customer service is the best I’ve ever seen out of any regular* company.
When it comes to the lock rock I’ve never had an automatic that didn’t have a little play. I think it’s the nature of the mechanism
I've been through two protechs that had zero blade play in any direction. They were newer models, so hopefully it's something they were working on and hopefully remain consistent in that regard.
The best drawing ever!
I currently have both of those knives and have carried both there’s not even the slightest hint of blade play on either for me.
I own both of these. I really like both, but the LUDT finds more pocket time. It's super thin behind the edge and slices like a dream.
It cuts cardboard like its butta 🧈🧈
protech seem to be really cool and kind people, for me as a non-us person their warranty doesn't mean much though (fees and stuff, if something breaks it's probably cheaper to;buy a new one lol).
i do think microtech has an edge in fit'n'finish though, their knives simply look and feel a tad more precise and their grinds are super clean and always perfection (not so much the case with protech, had some with dull spots in the past).
Aluminum is my favorite handle material. I really miss my LUDT and socom.
It’s very underrated in my opinion. It’s lightweight, durable, and kind of feels like titanium
Got a socom auto for sale if interested
My Protech SBR doesn’t have side to side or up and down blade play. None of my Protech’s do. Surprised that yours does.
Lost my ludt to a trash compactor Friday the clip grabbed some trash and vanished from my pocket 😢rip buddy
Right on man! I’ve heard people on UA-cam say the auto knife they are reviewing is so good it flies out of you hand if you aren’t holding on! How is that good? It just needs to be strong enough to reliably deploy, not fly out of your hand or beat itself to death deploying.
I feel like it’s one of those things that popular youtubers said and then everyone acts like it’s a good thing. I don’t think that auto’s should be strong enough that you have to think to yourself “hold this tight”. Thanks for watching
As far as the ludt is concerned. It was literally designed to deploy underwater. I mean it’s in the name.
You can probably use a spring for a $40 Boker!! So much YT hype, for the cost. I love my S30V Boker kal 74 as much as my LUDT in elmax. They both do the same thing.
Unless you are cutting wood or hard materials.
Because high carbon on a thin blade is slicey buy will chip easy and needs to be oiled
What the hell are you talking about? Neither of these knives uses carbon steel theyre both using premium stainless steels that have good toughness.

But don’t forget that microtech has absolutely terrible customer service
What microtech charges for their knives is an embarrassment.
The clones are way better and you wont be afraid to use it.
Protech side opening knives blow microtech out of the water.
And they are half the price.
You're out of your god damn mind lol. Microtech clones "way better" than real microtechs? You're smoking crack my dude. Microtechs are a little more expensive but they're not twice the price of protech.
say you know nothing about knives in one paragraph....
The dh gate troll. Lol
This knives are an example of when buying a clone is a better idea.
If you think the action on a Chinese clone is even close to a protech or microtech you haven’t handled the real deal. It’s a night and day difference.
Some yes some no.
I have a bunch off both.
The protech ones are the same with lousy blade steel
I dint have microtech side opening ines
I have the ultratech bounty hunter.
Its made as goid as my three microtech ultra tech.
But there is a company called vespa.they make knives as good as microtech for half as much.
Titanium m390.or a budget version in d2.i have three..i assure you they are awesome.
One has stronger springs than any other otf i own.about a third of people i show it to cant use the switch.but i agree most clones are cheap.all otf knives have limited durability.more for poking i guess.
I do love microtech knives tho.they are just priced about 30% too high for what they are
@@aaronl8609 blade steel aside I think the overall quality on protech clones are a bit off. Plus the big benefit of dealing with protech is their awesome customer service, something obviously no existent in the clone world.
Maybe some microtech clones are better than others but from the otf versions I have seen and handled the action and build quality was pretty far off from what microtech allows out of their factory.
At the end of the day though I do agree that otf knives are pretty limited durability wise. One of the only ones that remains in my collection is my Hawk Deadlock otf which virtually eliminates any blade play common in those style of knives.
As for Vespa I have not personally handled one but have heard some good things! But at that point you are getting into the higher price bracket.
They are paying American workers a living wage and health insurance so yeah they cost..and I am happy to pay for that.
