I onlly wish to help . You use "a" if the thing you are describing begins with a consonant sound . For example " a house" , "a dog" , " a forest" . Use "an" if the word begins woth a vowel sound. example " an apple" , "an acorn" , "an egg". This is generally how it works however there are exceptions. Hope this helps , best wishes .
Vanessa it can be very dangerous 🚑🤮 sniffing the contents of the bottle the way you did because you never know what is inside. The safe way to do it is to open the bottle hold it a foot or so away from your face and with your free hand waft (wave) 👋🏻♨👃🏻 the fumes towards your face. This goes for any kind of container with unknown substances inside. That way if it is something dangerous ☠ you don't get a concentrated amount of fumes up your nose, which could make you sick or worse. I would really hate to see anything happen to you 💖. Stay safe! The beetles came to Nova Scotia on container ships. They established a colony in Point Pleasant park but hurricane Juan blew them around the province! The Spruce forest are dying, but the trees are fertilizer for a new healthier forest! Mother Nature is adapting all the time! Another great Video Vanessa!!!
Thank you. And yes I bought some land in North East California with a cabin. Then shortly after the Bark Beetle got into the trees. So the logging company came in and marked the infected trees and removed them. So my land looked horrible afterwards. Stomps and a few trees. Everyone that bought land there pretty much didn't build cabins. Too bad. I learned a lot from you in this video. Thank you so much. I can tell you really care as you were very sad when you talked about this problem. What a wonderful lady you are and very honest and talk the truth.
The pine bark beatle is everywhere and creates the danger of falling trees and fuel for forest fires. Another problem that troubles you very much. You are a true naturalist and a beautiful one also. Such natural beauty. I just love everything about your videos.
Here in Colorado, the bark beatles have destroyed large areas of the forest. Then we have big forest fires. All these areas are dangerous because of the dead falls from wind. Thank you for loveing the forest, for showing your forest.

I have watched Vanessa for a while now and enjoyed her videos, so I really hate to do this but... Never hide under a tree in a violent storm, and it's not just about "widow makers", but if you hear thunder, that means lightening is in the area, and any tree can become a lightening rod. If you don't know what to do outdoors in a electrical storm...look for a depression or ditch, or spread yourself out to decrease your height, and also to spread out your area to minimize electrical "hotspots" if lightening hits nearby. The idea of hiding in a dried out stream bed "cave" is asking for trouble in a storm situation. Flash flooding is a real concern during a storm and no one should camp on a dry stream bed or flood area, especially in a "carved out cave" in the stream bed.
I really have have enjoyed your videos focused on trees. And I share your 💘 for trees. Trees can tell you such a story! As a young boy, as young as your Johannes, I climbed in a massive elm tree with my brother. It was at least 4 feet or 1.25 meters in diameter. You could lie back on the huge branches, eating the wild grapes growing nearby and (as little boys) think about the next adventure. It was a landmark in the area, on the farm where I still live. THEN when I became a young adult, things changed for my tree. Elm beetles invaded my friend. Within 2 yrs, he was dead and dangerous. I was so sad Vanessa, when I had to push him over with my bulldozer. So when I hear the love in your heart, especially for the trees around your home, I know how you feel. Thank you for explaining to others just how fast theses barkbeetles can spread!
Vanessa's devotion to the forest and wilderness is so heartwarming. She is more than a tree hugger, to her the trees are kindred spirits. I have seen where forest fires have done tremendous amounts of destruction in a matter of days. Beyond soil erosion the forest will start to recover and eventually will heal. Logging if done excessively can be just as destructive. Forrests that have invasive beetle infestations will have large areas of standing dead trees. These areas will continue to spread and grow, leaving entire forests devoid of the affected tree species. It may take over a century before the same tree spieces may be reintroduced into an area. Be mindful of transporting deadfall fire wood to other areas.

Hi Vanessa... for us here in the northeast US, it’s the green emerald ash bore beetle. I had built my house in a ash tree forest because it was so beautiful. In the last years the trees have begun dying because of this pest. We can slow the problem by injection but the process is impossible to stop. In the past, no firewood could be brought into our region from places that were already affected but now it is here. I have begun to plant Maple trees because they grow quickly and aren’t affected by this beetle. Nature is bigger than us. Maybe the best we can do is work along side of her. Thanks for all you do. Your channel brings us together and for this I’m exceedingly grateful.

Miss. V, we had and still have I believe Bark Beatles in Arizona USA. My favorite hunting place has all but wiped out the trees there. It is sad now it is not a pleasant place visit anymore. Such a good video. :) Here in Alaska we have the same problem with the spruce bark beetle. We have also a big problem with forest fires because of the dead trees and lightning strikes in the summer. We have not so many people to manage all the forest we have here. It is true it is sad to see the trees die. But it is the natural process and one species makes way for the next. This process has been going on for a very long time. :) Keep up the good work! :)

yup first class landscape arborist first class utility arborist for over 30 years here in maine it is sad but I belive the wood will be when my skin will not vary nice video thank you a lot
I liked that you said, that the problem is not the beetle, but the monoculture and the harvestors, that come to destroy the soil. The beetle does not kill the forest, it just kills the mature trees. If left with the dead wood or helped by sowing birch trees, it will grow again, healthier.
Very enjoyable video today, Vanessa. Bark beetles kill many trees where I live. The forest managers sometimes prescribe controlled fires to destroy large infestations of beetles, and then loggers clear the dead trees, allowing room for new trees to sprout. Here we have some forests made up of nearly 100% lodge pole pine. The lodge pole pine's cone requires high heat (from fire) in order to open and release the seeds from which new trees will grow. Fire is a natural part of the forest ecology. Nature uses lightning to start forest fires. When that happens here in the western US, forest managers and fire fighting crews look first to see the benefit that will come from the fire before they look toward fighting the fire. Sometimes they allow lightning-caused fires to burn until Nature puts them out with rain or snow. If houses or human lives are threatened, then of course the fire crews try to save those people and structures. Stay safe out there. We love what you do on both of your channels.
Hello Vanessa,I share your sadness for dying forests,we are so reliant on them for their oxygen producing,and many other things.There are no Birch or Beech trees anywhere near me,mainly eucalyptus species.They are also widow makers,and too many still lose their lives as a result of falling timber😢On a more positive note,your little cave is a great spot for an overnighter.I was a couple of thousand kilometres away from my home last year,and managed to get some Birch bark off the ground from under a tree,so I have a little supply now for my fire starting.👍 Best wishes😊

That first mushroom looks like an Grifola Frondosa or Sheepshead, Hen of the Woods or Maitake are some of the local names. Grows in the US usually around Oak tress and is very good eating.

Yes, the Bark Beetle is right now a huge Pest in Germany (here in Switzerland also .. and Spruce makes up a third of the Swiss Tree Population 😨). A complex problem with no simple solution .. although, the Pests seem to come in cycles, depending on the Climate Variations. I shall now be going into my Rheinfelden Forest with new eyes 👀😊. A nice little camping spot .. protected and dry 👍. Yep, 'back to basics' has it's advantages .. less to carry 😊. The Leg of Pork looked delicious .. Yumm. We have that also in the USA in Western North Carolina. We also have another evergreen killer. It is called woolly adelgid. Their devastating our evergreen tree called the hemlock. As a child growing up these were the tallest most beautiful trees in our forest to me. We still have young ones sprouting but they do not last more than a few years the tallest New growth I've seen is about 10 ft tall. Such a beautiful tree I miss it terribly. And I really love the camping spot that you chose. Although the overhang of earth bothers me a little. I do feel in bad situations it could be very comfortable . Although I did not get to watch the entire video tonight due to my work day is 15 hours Sunday night I may get the opportunity to finish the video. The bark beetle has been a problem for many years. When I was stationed at Ramstein Air Base many years ago, the Forest Meister made the U.S. Air Force troops spend a week in our base forest cleaning up dead fall. It was ok though because he always brought us some beers to have at lunch.
The first danger I saw was the barbed wire grown into the bushes and tree in the forest. That is dangerous since one can be injured and form a sore which can be hard to heal. The cave you decided to camp out in would be dangerous here because of the snakes we have. It sounds like those bugs you are talking about is like the ones here which is killing trees in our forest and the government sometimes have to intervene and try to kill the insects before they wipe out too many trees. Sweet dreams and I hope you got a good night's sleep at your camping location and nature let you rest comfortably.

Oh , that was a great fire you had. I envy you:) IDK why bushcrafters don't burn long logs like that. Really, the only time you need to chop wood is if you have a stove. (IMO). The Mountain Pine Beetle is threatening to decimate the forests in Alberta, they originated in our neighboring province British Columbia. People are calling for the Canadian government to help with research b4 they spread across Canada. Extreme cold winter temperatures can kill their population substantially, I think it's possible natural global warming may be reducing the number of frigid days here. It's concerning. To see you happy and comfortable sitting in front of a warm fire in the wild nature in der nacht ist schön. Du musst dein leben lieben. :Doug

But you are right, it is sometimes sad to see nature at work when it come to big trees dying, guessing it is all part of natures bigger plan we couldn't even begin to understand. Here in the UK we had a problem abit back with Elm tree beetle, which is a boring beetle, millions of massive Elm trees died which of course changed the whole landscape and the wildlife that lived in it. but then again I guess the Dinosaurs thought it would never change. Yes I have some trees that have been destroyed by insects. My large pine trees are dying from them. Luckily I have many different species of trees that remain healthy, but I hate to lose any. Thanks for the informative video.
It's happening in Canada. Ash trees are basically extinct in Canada due to the Ash Bore Beetle, an invasive species. Pine trees have also taken a hit from a pest insect. Sad to see. Storm and bark beetle damage aside, it looks like you still had a pleasant trip. Thank you for taking us along.

Hello Vanessa! Nice video, as always! Those big trees are wonderful! I love them! About equipement, what is important is that most of it will not survive forever. For example, an inflatable mat will last a few months if we use it every day. It is good to know how to do without equipement. Thank you.
Those same beetles have been killing thousands of miles of forest for more than 20 years here in the US. Although we have slowed them down, they're still a big problem. Here in Montana we have mostly the tall evergreens. And every time the wind blows, the tops of the dead ones snap off! And you could say that, finding your whistle was a sign that you made the right decision to stay in that cave!

IN 2007 WE HAD A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE BEATLES . SO SAD HOW MANY TREES WERE LOST . GREAT VIDEO NESSA .
I have watched Vanessa for a while now and enjoyed her videos, so I really hate to do this but...
Never hide under a tree in a violent storm, and it's not just about "widow makers", but if you hear thunder, that means lightening is in the area, and any tree can become a lightening rod. If you don't know what to do outdoors in a electrical storm...look for a depression or ditch, or spread yourself out to decrease your height, and also to spread out your area to minimize electrical "hotspots" if lightening hits nearby.
The idea of hiding in a dried out stream bed "cave" is asking for trouble in a storm situation. Flash flooding is a real concern during a storm and no one should camp on a dry stream bed or flood area, especially in a "carved out cave" in the stream bed.

As a young boy, as young as your Johannes, I climbed in a massive elm tree with my brother. It was at least 4 feet or 1.25 meters in diameter. You could lie back on the huge branches, eating the wild grapes growing nearby and (as little boys) think about the next adventure. It was a landmark in the area, on the farm where I still live. THEN when I became a young adult, things changed for my tree. Elm beetles invaded my friend. Within 2 yrs, he was dead and dangerous. I was so sad Vanessa, when I had to push him over with my bulldozer. So when I hear the love in your heart, especially for the trees around your home, I know how you feel. Thank you for explaining to others just how fast theses barkbeetles can spread!
Vanessa's devotion to the forest and wilderness is so heartwarming. She is more than a tree hugger, to her the trees are kindred spirits.
I have seen where forest fires have done tremendous amounts of destruction in a matter of days. Beyond soil erosion the forest will start to recover and eventually will heal. Logging if done excessively can be just as destructive. Forrests that have invasive beetle infestations will have large areas of standing dead trees. These areas will continue to spread and grow, leaving entire forests devoid of the affected tree species. It may take over a century before the same tree spieces may be reintroduced into an area. Be mindful of transporting deadfall fire wood to other areas.
Waaauw what a sad story.. Over the bark beatle, I don't know that the bark beatle makes so much dead three's. You makes everybody smarter with your story's and movie's. The next time when I go into the forest I open my eyes better. Thanx again Vanessa for this beautiful lesson of the nature 😍🤗🌳🌳🌳

Hi Vanessa... for us here in the northeast US, it’s the green emerald ash bore beetle. I had built my house in a ash tree forest because it was so beautiful. In the last years the trees have begun dying because of this pest. We can slow the problem by injection but the process is impossible to stop. In the past, no firewood could be brought into our region from places that were already affected but now it is here. I have begun to plant Maple trees because they grow quickly and aren’t affected by this beetle. Nature is bigger than us. Maybe the best we can do is work along side of her. Thanks for all you do. Your channel brings us together and for this I’m exceedingly grateful.

Angry with you? There's no reason anyone should be angry with you at all, especially when you're in the forest and nature or even just busy with every day life.
If anyone gets angry with you for that, they have problems and it's very sad.
I hope you're having a safe and wonderful time. I'll be going back into the forest again this coming weekend while I'm off for a day or two myself. I'm really looking forward to it.
I do subscribe to "Outdoor Bavaria" I enjoy that channel a great deal as well even though I don't speak German ( I know, what's wrong with me? :-D ). I do recognize and understand some of it and I'm trying to learn more as I go so bear with me.

Miss. V, we had and still have I believe Bark Beatles in Arizona USA. My favorite hunting place has all but wiped out the trees there. It is sad now it is not a pleasant place visit anymore. Such a good video. :) Here in Alaska we have the same problem with the spruce bark beetle. We have also a big problem with forest fires because of the dead trees and lightning strikes in the summer. We have not so many people to manage all the forest we have here. It is true it is sad to see the trees die. But it is the natural process and one species makes way for the next. This process has been going on for a very long time. :) Keep up the good work! :)

I liked that you said, that the problem is not the beetle, but the monoculture and the harvestors, that come to destroy the soil. The beetle does not kill the forest, it just kills the mature trees. If left with the dead wood or helped by sowing birch trees, it will grow again, healthier.

Very enjoyable video today, Vanessa. Bark beetles kill many trees where I live. The forest managers sometimes prescribe controlled fires to destroy large infestations of beetles, and then loggers clear the dead trees, allowing room for new trees to sprout. Here we have some forests made up of nearly 100% lodge pole pine. The lodge pole pine's cone requires high heat (from fire) in order to open and release the seeds from which new trees will grow. Fire is a natural part of the forest ecology. Nature uses lightning to start forest fires. When that happens here in the western US, forest managers and fire fighting crews look first to see the benefit that will come from the fire before they look toward fighting the fire. Sometimes they allow lightning-caused fires to burn until Nature puts them out with rain or snow. If houses or human lives are threatened, then of course the fire crews try to save those people and structures. Stay safe out there. We love what you do on both of your channels.
Hello Vanessa,I share your sadness for dying forests,we are so reliant on them for their oxygen producing,and many other things.There are no Birch or Beech trees anywhere near me,mainly eucalyptus species.They are also widow makers,and too many still lose their lives as a result of falling timber😢On a more positive note,your little cave is a great spot for an overnighter.I was a couple of thousand kilometres away from my home last year,and managed to get some Birch bark off the ground from under a tree,so I have a little supply now for my fire starting.👍

That first mushroom looks like an Grifola Frondosa or Sheepshead, Hen of the Woods or Maitake are some of the local names. Grows in the US usually around Oak tress and is very good eating.
Hi Vanessa .. thank you for a very interesting discussion. Yes, the Bark Beetle is right now a huge Pest in Germany (here in Switzerland also .. and Spruce makes up a third of the Swiss Tree Population 😨). A complex problem with no simple solution .. although, the Pests seem to come in cycles, depending on the Climate Variations. I shall now be going into my Rheinfelden Forest with new eyes 👀😊.
A nice little camping spot .. protected and dry 👍. Yep, 'back to basics' has it's advantages .. less to carry 😊. The Leg of Pork looked delicious .. Yumm.
And .. the Silence can sometimes be deafening (very loud) .. other times it 'whispers' to you .. and if you listen very carefully ...

We have that also in the USA in Western North Carolina. We also have another evergreen killer. It is called woolly adelgid. Their devastating our evergreen tree called the hemlock. As a child growing up these were the tallest most beautiful trees in our forest to me. We still have young ones sprouting but they do not last more than a few years the tallest New growth I've seen is about 10 ft tall. Such a beautiful tree I miss it terribly. And I really love the camping spot that you chose. Although the overhang of earth bothers me a little. I do feel in bad situations it could be very comfortable . Although I did not get to watch the entire video tonight due to my work day is 15 hours Sunday night I may get the opportunity to finish the video. Whatever you're doing right now I pray you you well in your endeavors .

The bark beetle has been a problem for many years. When I was stationed at Ramstein Air Base many years ago, the Forest Meister made the U.S. Air Force troops spend a week in our base forest cleaning up dead fall. It was ok though because he always brought us some beers to have at lunch.
Have to work today but I'm excited to watch it when I can.

The first danger I saw was the barbed wire grown into the bushes and tree in the forest. That is dangerous since one can be injured and form a sore which can be hard to heal. The cave you decided to camp out in would be dangerous here because of the snakes we have. It sounds like those bugs you are talking about is like the ones here which is killing trees in our forest and the government sometimes have to intervene and try to kill the insects before they wipe out too many trees. Sweet dreams and I hope you got a good night's sleep at your camping location and nature let you rest comfortably.

Oh , that was a great fire you had. I envy you:) IDK why bushcrafters don't burn long logs like that. Really, the only time you need to chop wood is if you have a stove. (IMO). The Mountain Pine Beetle is threatening to decimate the forests in Alberta, they originated in our neighboring province British Columbia. People are calling for the Canadian government to help with research b4 they spread across Canada. Extreme cold winter temperatures can kill their population substantially, I think it's possible natural global warming may be reducing the number of frigid days here. It's concerning. To see you happy and comfortable sitting in front of a warm fire in the wild nature in der nacht ist schön. Du musst dein leben lieben. :Doug

But you are right, it is sometimes sad to see nature at work when it come to big trees dying, guessing it is all part of natures bigger plan we couldn't even begin to understand. Here in the UK we had a problem abit back with Elm tree beetle, which is a boring beetle, millions of massive Elm trees died which of course changed the whole landscape and the wildlife that lived in it. but then again I guess the Dinosaurs thought it would never change. Yes I have some trees that have been destroyed by insects. My large pine trees are dying from them. Luckily I have many different species of trees that remain healthy, but I hate to lose any. Thanks for the informative video.

It's happening in Canada. Ash trees are basically extinct in Canada due to the Ash Bore Beetle, an invasive species. Pine trees have also taken a hit from a pest insect. Sad to see. Storm and bark beetle damage aside, it looks like you still had a pleasant trip. Thank you for taking us along.

Hello Vanessa! Nice video, as always! Those big trees are wonderful! I love them! About equipement, what is important is that most of it will not survive forever. For example, an inflatable mat will last a few months if we use it every day. It is good to know how to do without equipement. Thank you.
Those same beetles have been killing thousands of miles of forest for more than 20 years here in the US. Although we have slowed them down, they're still a big problem.
Here in Montana we have mostly the tall evergreens. And every time the wind blows, the tops of the dead ones snap off!
And you could say that, finding your whistle was a sign that you made the right decision to stay in that cave!

We have a serious bark beetle infestation in Northern Minnesota. When you burn wood wood with them in it you can hear the beetles popping inside.

Hi dear Vanessa 😘 very informative video at the same time sad. But nature finds its way to survive... You are still lucky out there... In some countries they cut hundreds of thousands of living trees for a damn road or worse yet intentionally set the jungles on fire.
