Ugh. Not nice to find the dead animal near your camp. The insects are here in Scotland too. The common name is Carrion Beetle. It feeds on dead carcasses and does a wonderful job of disposing of dead animals. Not that you want them to do their job while you’re nearby. Great video.

A nice outing with bike and trailer. The Eco Stove (or similar) is very popular in South Africa. My stove is a bit taller which helps to retain the heat very well .. and as you said, it uses very little fuel., especially when using charcoal.
(Now for some useless information 😉😊) The heavy cast iron pot is very popular with South Africans .. the round bottom pot with three legs bring the most used. We call it a 'Potjie' and in which many traditional 'Bosveld (Bush) Becipes' are prepared, sitting in a group around the cooking fire 😊.

Hoi Vanessa! The tree you took the bark from looked like a species of Birch different from the Silver Birch or the Paper-Bark Birch. Before you identified the Ramson in this video I saw a small patch of bright green vegetation and hoped you would show a closeup of it. It was as I suspected. It is so surprising to me that so many plants grow worldwide, maybe with a slight variation but they can be found. I identified the Ramson because I have a very long history and familiarization with it. We commonly called them "Ramps." Here in the States, West Virginia to be more specific, it is the first green to immerge from the ground in Springtime. We would go into the woods with burlap feed sacks and Ramp hoes and spend the day digging them. We would always leave some of the plants, or a small cluster of the plants, so there would be more the following year. In West Virginia, there are even Ramp festivals and Ramp Suppers as charitable events. I have also found them in Ohio and Illinois near a stream, river, or larger body of freshwater. My mouth waters when I think of them and I was surprised you didn't gather a few to put in your meal. They are high in vitamins and minerals and we referred to them as a Spring Tonic after a long cold winter!!!

Hello Vanessa.. Tried bike camping before. it is surprising how far you can get before setting up camp. I rode for miles and came across a small field with a stream running through it. Ideal place as it was clean clear water but i had to boil it first before drinking or cooking with it. I had a good over-nighter there and cooked a nice steak on the bone on an open fire. Then early in morning had a refreshing wash in the stream cooked breakfast then back home. Would i do it again yes i would it was great fun and so relaxing when your on your own... That is a great stove. We teach our scouts to use the dry evergreen wood for starting fires. We have a lot of Hemlock trees and the dry squaw wood works great as a fire starter.
