Vanessa, I subscribe to a lot of channels and I have never seen anyone who is loved as much as you by their subscribers. Is it your knowledge or your skills, or your awesome charm and beauty or those adorable dimples or your cute accent and smile??? It has to be all of it. Imagining snuggling next to a campfire with you is what I love. ❤❤❤
It never stops to amaze me how such a balanced healthy beautiful person you are. On this episode you also show us how wise you are . When you cannot sleep at times it’s your angel guardian that is advising you that it would be safer to head back now rather than maybe meet danger later. I don’t know too many women who would break camp in the middle of the night , head down a mountain in the darkness to reach her car. If I did they probably would sleep in the car and head home in the morning. You set your mind to something and get it done. A rarity in today society. You are a role model for many people and to your children. Keep up the good works but please give your guardian angel a break too once in a while. :)
A night is terribly long in a tent with no sleep. Best choice is to pack up and do something.
I absolutely adore the way you look at these adventures. These kind of videos help us to get through the boring week, until we can go out again. Thanks for sharing it with our kind.
I think it is probably anxiety that keeps you awake, and even when things are quiet and you feel reasonably safe, your subconsciousness will remain on high alert. It is one of those things that easily starts to feed on itself, and the more you think about it the worse it gets. In such situations I think you are right in giving up, cutting your losses, and going home, because you will probably not get any good sleep anyway. It is a shame though as it takes away that fantastic sensation of a good night's sleep in the woods, and probably undermines your confidence a little bit as well, but thumbs up for being 'brave' enough to plan these overnight trips anyway.
I have driven many miles and then just couldn't relax in the camp spot. The best nights sleep I have ever had were on camp trips, but on the other hand when it just doesn't feel right you have to bail out. And drive many miles back home. I'm not the only camper that I know who has done this. It's good practice. My dogs were happy to see me and I was happy to see them again. Cross-country skiing. I did a lot of it as a kid. Your head gear works and looks great. It's incredible that you could film your hike out in the dark. I don't think I have ever seen that.
Nice that you are honest to your audience, some will just go sleep in the car and show up in the morning for quick 10 minute talk and pack up. You got my respect for this. Also stay safe, and keep your real life stuff hidden from the people.

I just love your enthusiasm for the wilderness. I also think winter without snow is not winter. Long ski walk we call nordic skiing or cross country ski. Which I nordic skied 12km today in 70cm of snow. Stay safe.

Where I'm at It's called "cross country skiing".
You glide you feet across the ground and use poles in your hands for balance and make it easier to ski like that.

I’m very happy to see still making videos. I love your work you do.
Camping in the cold is a whole other learning curve. I've been in subzero F for several years. I use a single wall tent when I'm not hot tenting. Candles go a long way to reduce condensation(Uco) and add a little warmth. I use a insulated pad(very important) one zero degree F bag and one 30. Put your water(hot) in a single wall stainless bottle. Put a sock over it and put it in your bag for warmth. This will also dry your socks. Put any food with liquid in your bag.

I'm pretty sure if I put my pack down under a tree to explore just a little further, I'd never find the darn thing again! Seriously, if I closed my eyes and turned around once I'd not know who I was, let alone where I was! Fortunately for me, I don't do that too often - we have quite a few places within reach of where I am, and my love of flyfishing is starting to make a comeback. I just need to let someone know where I am going to, and for how long, which is pretty easy when you're married! Plus we have a daughter living close by!

About 50 km North of Montreal, out of the valley of St-Laurent, we enjoy the Boreal forests and mountains exactly like yours, same trees and lakes in East Canada. Plus black bears and wolves... Your Hammock winter gears would have been appreciated for this area, isn't it ??? Super work on the filming and the choice of sounds track with that sonar. Yeah, the only times that nagging little inner voice has gotten me in trouble were the times I ignored it. The last ever time I went scuba diving, I was having a lot of minor issues with my gear, and the little voice said, "Get out of the water NOW, and fix the damned problems." I didn't, and nearly became a summer statistic.

From experience and advice from those more experienced than myself, 1/2 way up or down the mountain is right where you want to be when cold and wind are a factor in comfort. Especially when down is water laden and top is windy with no wind break. You are a princess warrior in my book!

Never walk around at night in the forest. It is ok to be late for work or call in sick. Your life is more important than anything else. You are a brave and beautiful woman. Plan better and safer for your next trip. All the best for 2020.
There's more snow in just one snowfall in Bavaria than there is in two years where I live in the US. But, the summers are hot at about 115°F/46°C.
The mountain view in Bavaria was beautiful. Was nice to see the Bavarian forest.
Beautiful terrain. It's easy to imagine our stone-age ancestors living in those caves thousands of years ago, bandits or armies. Are there bears in the area? I can imagine they might like those caves too. Very enjoyable and relaxing. I even find your struggle with English charming.
Being in below temperatures can cause people not to sleep which causes fatigue so you made the right decisions Vanessa to go home, being in under or over temperatures is about making the right decisions with what you are doing because you are in a situation where you need to make the right decisions , the MSR gas stove was another good decision 👍.

So tonight I decided to do something I have thought about several times while watching your videos. Good video, beautiful mountains and the caves were great. The ski sport you mentioned we call cross country skiing. It's quite popular in our area. We have trails in our state parks that are used for family hiking during the warmer weather and used for cross country skiing during the winter. The eats were good and my mouth was watering when I saw the pretzel.....LOL. We all have nights when sleep escapes us, but with the conditions you were facing, you did the right thing. Two hours on the road with no sleep means the window is open and the radio is blasting.....been there.....LOL.
Stay well, and I still wish you would use gloves in the cold.....LOL Get your rest!
