Love Pesci's acting in this scene: after his initial response ("...suitcase and everything.") he doesn't respond to 4 direct questions. This is probably Nicky at his nicest in the entire movie, yet he's menacing.
Nicky had no choice but to be nice. Even thought the two balloon heads were in the wrong, they were part of another crew, which meant the implications would of been bad for Nicky if he harmed them, as their crew would of gone to war against Nicky. Unfortunately for him a friendly but firm warning was all that could suffice, yet he was a scary bastard so it was enough.
The crazy thing is that if you were in Vegas anytime between the 50s and 80s, you could have potentially been near or in the middle of a conversation like this and you would’ve had no idea.
First 2 movies I watched with Joe Pesci when I was a child were Homealone and Lethal Weapon...I could never imagine he would made me nervous believing he is a freaking bully who can smash people's faces in movies like "goodfellas" and "casino". Brilliant actor.
When he did Home Alone he still had Tommy in him scaring the young cast behind the scenes pretending to bein Tommy I heard because Home Alone came out same year as Goodfellas

He's a phenomenal actor in everything he's a part of and that makes everything he's a part of amazing in that sense. He even has a great comedy movie with Rodney Dangerfield, called Easy Money.
This scene reveals that Nicky isn't just the "muscle" for his Family. He's also a shrewd and economical negotiator, conveying only the information necessary to reach mutual understanding and accord.
They were fellow mobsters. Genovese also ran Vegas at the time. "I'm ova here" was just a signal to let them know it was a outfit controlled casino that's why he suggested they go rob the casino across the street.
@Dave Beyer they aren't the largest.. Gambinos are very often referred to as the largest- Genovese are often called the "ivy league" of the 5 families~the most smart & sophisticated of them all.

Legend has it they're still searching for Carmine across the street. They saw a guy with a suitcase and everything, but he went back across the street.
Pescis character was based on the real life Chicago outfit member, Tony "The Ant" Spilotro. He was the muscle sent out to Vegas to protect the interests of the Chicago Outfit. De Niros character was based on Lefty Rosenthal, the guy sent out by the Outfit to manage one of their Casinos.
@TheRealist 811 Yes. The Mafia is a worldwide criminal organization known as Cosa Nostra, which originated centuries ago in Sicily.
