    Fun fact: the phone buying scene from The Gentlemen was not in the script and was made up on the spot. Guy Ritchie loved the banter of the London boys they hired in this scene so much that he wanted to include some kind of dialog. except that's not true at all. In a lot of firms or even mob families or criminal organisations you'd be a madman to be the loudest one in the room above your boss/leader. Even in corporate organisations, the loudest one in the room is almost always the highest rank that wields the most power. Same in the military. The entire say was made to basically say if your actions are respected you should never need to be loud or go overboard but what it doesn't factor in is very few leaders are mute/ let their actions alone speak which is why they're leaders, they lead verbally and with action. Everyone isn't Vito Corleone lol Michael was sometimes the loudest in the room, same with Vito same with Sonny and most of the time they were still the strongest in the room

    • @30secondstomarsMBH
      @30secondstomarsMBH 2 місяці тому +7

      @@Spanner0696 There's a difference between calm confidence and braggadocious confidence. Calm confidence means you're not phased by anything, you're not scared, you're analysing the situation, you're in control of your emotions, you know your abilities and you feel confident you're capable of responding to whatever the situation brings.
      Braggadocious confidence is where you think you're the big shit, coz you've maybe had a few fights, and everyone's scared of you and you're the bossman.
      Usually the latter means that you've got very little experience and knowledge and that you've got a big ego, which means you'll probably underestimate your opponent and overestimate your own abilities.
      Someone with calm confidence knows exactly what their limits are and has probably tested them. It also usually suggests they've got tons of experience, and generally have no level of fear or major ego. They've earnt their way to where they are, worked hard (in whatever context that applies) and got there on their own merits. It probably means they're both feared, yes, but also respected and they've probably had a level of training or being taught what to do generally. It suggests that they're reliant on muscle memory and instinct that teaches them what to do next in the situation.
      Anyone that's in a dangerous situation and is analysing the situation isn't going to have their adrenaline spike too high, so they'll be able to manage the situation better because they won't go into fight or flight mode. Someone that already believes they've won without analysing the situation won't have a handle on their adrenaline because they'll just let it flood them, going for shock and awe.
      If you're in a fight situation and the person ahead of you looks like they're not phased at all, even though you seem like you could easily take them on, the chances are, you probably will have at LEAST an even field on your hands. If you're in a situation like those guys, in hostile territory, and a guy talks to you like that, it's best to walk away, or to diffuse the situation. Not least because they'll respect you if you talk to them man to man, and lower the aggression than if you just go in half cocked coz it means they can't take you seriously.

    I worked in the Criminal Justice System for over 40 years. "Real Gangsters" can be and are coped with. They are however tough men with their personal code of conduct. They are men that only a fool would "bait" or trifle with. They can fight too. I once asked a rookie: "Ever had to fight one of these men?" The young fool said a very lame "no". I told him if he kept going the way he was the opportunity to fight a "Real One" was going to be his - and he would not believe what was going to happen to him. Treating real gangster ciminals with respect is the most reasonable way to deal with them.

      I assume scenes like in these movie clips are pure wish fulfillment though (for audiences who'd love to get revenge on some petty criminals who've bothered them)? Can't imagine real gangsters dealing with roadmen in quite so poetic and gentlemanly a way.
